Excellent piece of meat. Very favorful and well prepared. And at this price 🤯 mindblowing… good steak really does not have to cost so much. This piece here (about 1kg and good for 2-3) was probably my favorite steak in this part of the world. Dropped by at 1130 and was told to come back at 1430 for our chuleton. Visited December 30, 2025. Make sure to drop by early to reserve your steak. Go earlier if you want a piece of their tortilla.
Master level of meat! If you want to have an unforgettable gastronomic experience in San Sebastián, Bar Néstor is a must-visit. The txuletón (chuletón) de vaca vieja is absolutely incredible - juicy, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. Served with fresh tomatoes and pimientos de Padrón, every bite is a delight. The atmosphere is authentic and cozy, typical of the region, and the staff is incredibly friendly, making the experience even more memorable. If you love meat and want to try one of the best in the Basque Country, Bar Néstor is simply unmissable.
You almost hesitate to add a review to a place like this. What's the point? Who doesn't already know the steak is absolutely phenomenal, or that the tomato salad is so good some people forget to eat the other food. Yes, booking is a pain because you have to queue and structure your whole day around this. Yes, it's crowded and impossibly busy. Yes, there are only a handful of things to have. But it's just the best version you can possible have of what it is, so you'd be crazy not to put up with everything else.
Our best experience in San Sebastián. We started queuing from 10.40am and were second in the queue, we booked the tortilla and steak, and then went back at 12.45am for it. The food was incredible and the whole setting was very sociable. Even the side dishes - tomato salad and padron peppers - were a highlight of our trip. A must do experience!
Lined up at 11:10am and there was already a queue. Hatch opens 11:30am. You put your name down and order, there’s only 2 things - steak with tomatoes and padron peppers and pinxto size tortilla. We were told to come back at 12:45pm. Lively atmosphere and not too chaotic. We ordered all the food options and had 3 glasses of txocholi which came to about £75 for 2 people. Steak was rare when it came out on the sizzling plate, which we proceeded to “cook” ourselves to make it more medium!
More of an experience than just a meal. We got in line at 5:30 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. We were fortunate enough to secure a spot at a table for later that night at 9:15 p.m. We could have eaten earlier, but we'd have had to stand at the bar. We weren't early enough in the queue to secure some of the famous tortilla. While in the queue, you overhear snippets of conversation: nervous excitement, "Have we gotten here early enough?" "Will there be any tortilla left?" "Can steak really be worth queuing this much?!" When you arrive at your allocated time to worship at this temple to beef, you're first greeted by a golden light spilling onto the street, a heavenly aroma of roasting meat, and the clatter and buzz of a busy restaurant. The waiting staff are busy delivering sizzling platters of meat, juicy tomatoes, and glistening padron peppers, but you're greeted with a smile and a nod—you are one of the lucky few. There is no menu. You either say yes or no. But who would say no? The only choice you have is which of the two steaks you're offered is the one for you. The steak is a Txuleta (pronounced chuleta), the cut of beef for the region. It's a bone-in sirloin steak of epic proportions—easily enough for two. You don't wait long before the food starts arriving. First, the tomatoes with olive oil, then a plate of padron peppers, piping hot and delicious. Finally, the steak arrives, cooked fast and hot on a cast iron plate, spitting droplets of fat to forewarn of its arrival. It's presented sliced with the bone, seasoned liberally with sea salt, showing off its rare-ness for all to see. If rare steak isn't your thing, don't worry—you can spread the steak out on the iron plate, and the considerable residual heat will soon finish cooking the meat. But for us, it was perfectly cooked and delicious. In a world where expensive food can be overthought and too complex, this is food stripped back to its basic principles: the best ingredients, cooked well. Simple, but not lesser for that simplicity. As you eat, people come and go—the unfortunate ones who get turned away, the unprepared who didn't queue but get pulled in off the street by Bar Nestor's beefy gravitational pull. The whole process, from the nervous queue to the last morsel, combines to satisfy both soul and stomach. Go and worship the beef—you won’t regret it.
We went there to get in the queue around 11:10am since we knew how it works from 2 years ago, Antonio was so warm and friendly, he helped us to book at 13:45 and we had our amazing Txuleta with tomatoes! Meat was great as usual, we love that spot! Every time we come to San Sebastian, its one of our must go place!
There are plenty of places serving Txuleton in San Sebastián. But none is better than Bar Nestor in my opinion. The simplicity of what they do shows the confidence in the product. Get in the queue early before opening if you want the tortilla. Or if you want to eat here at all to be fair! The tiny restaurant is fully reserved well before the shutter raises to let people in. The tortilla is superb but the reason to come is the beef. You’re given the choice of two steaks. One rib, the other sirloin. They serve 2 and are around a kilo. Once ordered, it’s weighed and cooked. Whilst you wait, a simple salad of tomatoes with olive oil and salt as well as padron peppers are brought to you. And then the meat arrives. This is quite simply the best steak I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. It is sublime. An incredible depth of flavour with the perfect cuisson of caramelisation. There is a very very good wine list with some of the best Riojas and wines from ribero on there. They’re incredibly well priced. Having been here 4 times, I will always be a devotee of this absolute highlight of any food trip to San Sebastián
It’s definitely worth queuing for. We queued from around 10.20am for the 11.30am tortilla window and to book for steak. We were fourth in the queue and had a table for 12.45pm. It gets quite busy! The tortilla was absolutely incredible. Easily the best I’ve ever had. We also went for the steak, tomatoes and peppers of course. Everything was so flavoursome and juicy. It’s tiny inside and very quaint. You all sit together so it’s very social. I’d highly recommend visiting, definitely worth the wait.
A definite experience! We arrived at 11.20 to queue for the waitlist (which opens at 11.30) and waited for about 25 minutes to reserve our dining time - the tortilla had unfortunately sold out already, but we got a time to come back at 2.30. When we arrived back it was super busy and we had another wait to go in for food, but they bring you drinks while you wait out on the street and honestly it feels like a fun part of the experience so I didn’t mind it. We got the steak - you are offered different ones so you can choose the size, the peppers and the tomatoes. The food was all great, and the service is rapid and friendly. Once you’re in you don’t feel rushed, although everything comes out so quickly and with very few seated tables it’s hard to linger for too long. It’s pricey (mainly due to the steak) compared to other meals I’ve had in San Sebastián, but the food is really good and as an overall experience it’s definitely worthwhile!
This is the no.1 must-do when visiting Donostia - San Sebastian. When I last visited this beautiful city, unfortunately I didn't succeed to catch a spot at this special place. This time, I was fully informed about the process and had to make it happen. We queued on time to have our name added to the list. An hour later, we were allowed in, and honestly, it was delicious; it was worth the wait and the hype. The tortilla and steak were delicious, and the tomatoes and peppers were a nice addition. Drinks were well taken care of; we had a wonderful experience at Bar Nestor with el patron himself. Señor Nestor muchos gracias
Worth the wait to get the tortilla so get there early. The trick: we got there around 5:15 for the 6:30 window opening to put our name down. We had a standing table seat for 7:45 for 2. The menu is simple - tortilla (only one so if you miss it there’s no more since it serves ~15), steak, tomato’s and shishito peppers. Total turnaround time is about 1hr(ish) once you’re inside.
Incredible experience. The food really does justify the wait. In peak season, for the 12 o'clock serving, arrive at 11 to get your name on the list. Be prepared to queue. The tortilla only has 16 portions but it's worth it. Again for the 7pm serving, arrive at 6 and take a drink from the bar opposite (makes the wait easier) Don't miss out on the steak either! Cooked to perfection 👌 The staff couldn't be more friendly, this place really does live up to the hype
The tortilla was definitely worth the hype and wait. One of the best things we ate after spending 5 days in San Sebastien. We lined up at 11 am on a Tuesday and there was already 14-15 people in front of us, but by the time we got to the reservation hatch at 12pm there were still Tortilla portions available thankfully! The staff are wonderful and make the whole process very fair for everyone. We came back at 12:45 exactly and were called into the bar in order of the original queue. We also couldn’t resist getting the steak, tomatoes and peppers which were also fantastic. So worth the wait!
tried to go on our first night but didn’t realise you had to book. Came back the next day got queue at 6 got one of their last tables for 10pm. Everything was first class great food and service.
More of an experience than just a meal. We got in line at 5:30 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. We were fortunate enough to secure a spot at a table for later that night at 9:15 p.m. We coul…

Fabulous the best tomato salad the stake immense Fantastic The staff all top guys !the vino good to
Queued up for the tortilla but it is so worth it, great Spanish pub serving great local wine.Service was super friendly on both occasions.

Agur estafadores !!
