Opinions de Yona Redz Santa Barbara
The food was delicious! I got the queso taco, tacos de papá and michelada. After a long day of Saturday work. Yona Redz hit the spot! Great salsa. Locally/family owned/operated. Local art inside. I highly recommend this restaurant when visiting downtown Santa Barbara , California.
Had the noodles at Yona's. They were delicious! Also, the tacos were great. :-) Yona is a very gracious and welcoming host and the ambiance is fun and warm.
Downtown SB has been a place I javelin avoided lately. The bikes speeding down the parkway, the side streets smelling like urine, the random people cursing at invisible people and my children. Yet, I see past all of that for the queso tacos. DELICIOUS!
Besides the food being amazing the service was incredible! We ordered takeout while at Night Lizard Brewing and the person who delivered our food literally RAN it to us. Amazing.
Yona Redz is BOMB! I always get the Yonas special which comes with 3 queso tacos and 1 birria consome and a drink. Im obsessed with their birria! I usually order once a week! The sangrias are bomb too!
Delicious birria tacos. Friendly and helpful staff. Great place for a casual meal.
Delicious and authentic Mexican street food served in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for late night snacks after a night out.
Good food for a casual evening.
Best burrito in santa barbara. Try the candies and horchata too!! The veggie burrito is a go to. The staff is also always kind and welcoming.
Wow, everything on the menu is so delicious! The owner is so kind and it’s nice to see the community so stoked on this place. My favorite is the Yona Special. Couldn’t recommend more!!
Great tacos! Really enjoyed the consume that was served with the combo meals. Will for sure head back here again soon!
Amazing queso birria tacos! The rice and beans on point! The guy helping us was super nice!
The birria ramen was one of the best meals I’ve had in Santa Barbara.
Counter service tacos in touristy section of town but the food is authentic and excellent.
Me and wifey are traveling from Virginia. She knows how much I love birria. I mean there’s so many ways to eat it (since I’m Mexican) so she found this restaurant. The food was on point! The best birria food I ever had. Quesabirria tacos and the ramen were both fire!!!
Great Food! Great Music & Friendly staff! This place is locally owned and operated! Their most popular item is the Birria queso taco! Order the Yona special with 3 queso tacos, consomé and a soft drink for $15! Their micheladas mix is house made from scratch! Don’t forget to order one! They also sell chamoy gummies from 805_sweets! Great place to bring a large party and enjoy some good food…they are dog friendly too! If you are in Santa Bárbara you should definitely try this place! They are open Tuesday - Sunday! You can order online too at yonaredz.com
——— Covid / Pandemic ————- Was visiting some friends in Ventura and Santa Barbra was close by. Rules are stricter in Cali, so everything was outside no reduced indoor seating. We were walking through the Main Street area looking for a place to eat, this caught our eye. A little hole in the wall very limited in menu, but god dam was this stuff delicious. We originally only had ordered the ramen as that was interesting, after the gave us the order and trying the birria, I had to try the quesadilla/birria. This is a must stop, we were staying 20 min away and contemplated coming back for more the following day. The birria is flavorful and the tacos have a generous amount of meat, and the consume... oh so good. It was a chilly day so this hit the spot. Highly, highly recommend.
This place is very consistent, the quality is always good.
Whoah. Glad I tried it, Awesome flavors. If you're on State Street and looking for a unique taco restaurant. Give this a try. My order somehow never arrived. But once I checked at the counter hot food was delivered so fast!
As a French student, I’m in California since 6 months and it was the best Mexican food I ever had The burritos, the nachos, the quesadillas and their tacos are delicious !!! The team is so nice and the place is very friendly ! I highly recommend this place ! It’s a must in SB ! 😋
Been dying to try a birra taco. I chose the right place! The tacos and consume were phenomenal. Lunch special with 2 tacos consome rice beans and chips/salsa for $14 is a STEAL.
Always tastes great! They are consistent with their food; amount of meat, cheese, nice and hot (temperature), and of course flavor. Which I think is important, and a big reason why I like going back.
Food is amazing, it's the best I've tried in S-B but mostly, I forgot my phone there. Anyone could have kept it. The staff is amazing. Honest, beautiful people. I have the pictures of my deceased dog again. The most valuable things that was in my phone. Thanks!
The Queso tacos are amazing. The birria is also incredibly good. Order the side of Consume if you are just getting birria a la carte items.....WELL WORTH IT. The service was great and we just stopped in for a couple of tacos (gotta have them when in Santa Barbara) and loved this place. A little small, but so are many other places on State St. As small as this location is, their food and service pack a huge punch for your appetite.
This place has amazing birria. I had the birria de chivo, in a Mulita and in a Vampiro. The vampiro was my favorite. Service was great. Recommend recommend. Of course expect to pay for what you get. Around $20-30 per person. Only thing you’ll have to work for is parking.
Wonderfully food .. miss the old location.. but the new one is bigger. Needs a different venue eventually.. but the food is fabulous.. late night munchies .or tippsy walks of joy . Lol
I really liked it! The quesadilla was really good. I had chicken for the meat on mine. They had really nice lime water that you could get. This was a great place to eat at. I would recommend to eat at it. I was a visitor to the Santa Barbra area
Amazing Birria! So far this is the closest I've found in California to the best Birria I've had down in Baja. I had a take out meal and the food was ready when I came to pick it up. The service was great and the prices were fair. The only (minor) complaint and maybe suggestion was the packaging of the taquitos isn't the most to-go friendly. They were in a plastic cup with cheese and salsa at the bottom. By the time I ate they were partly soggy from sitting. Still delicious and very enjoyable.
NOT a fan of birria - it has an after taste that beef and pork don't have which makes sense why a celebrity chef once called it peasant food. NEVER had Ramen at a restaurant before. Phu and angel hair pasta are more my thing. But the spirit moved me to try the BIRRIA RAMEN. It made the 120 mile trip from Orange County worth it and I will be back! NOT a fan of hibiscus either so when I ordered a Margarita I thought I was getting a regular margarita. Not the case, and the surprise Hibiscus Margarita paired perfectly! 6 stars for the entree, 6 stars for drink and the clay jarrito it came in! Wife had the veggie quesadilla with tomatillo salsa, paired with the Hibiscus Margarita. Another 5 star pairing.
The food was amazing! It sounds terrible to say this but so many times when you go to a taco shop you don't have your standard set too high but this was underestimated The flavors was to put it mildly eyes roll back in the had the Birria Tacos. They were so juicy already then with the dipping sauce / soup.. it was to die for!
I took my daughter here for her birthday, and we both loved it. birria tacos and ceviche mixta. outstanding. will come back again!!
Service was very nice, he helped us choose , it was delicious!! We loved it .
have been here twice and ordered the birria tacos both times! would give them 9/10! they’re full of juicy shredded beef and flavor. just the right amount of cheese as well! the consume could probably be a little more flavorful but hey. the salsa bar is amazing as well! the service was wonderful! definitely will be returning!
I ordered the potato taquitos, they were absolutely delicious. I also asked for for the Jamaica margarita, that needs to come in pitcher size! Was not disappointed at all. The service was spot on. Can’t wait to go back.
Now for real. The best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. Since I love spicy, my mom hate it. This restaurant have either spicy or mild. And we both enjoyed it so much. This food is made with passion and love. Mood inside is - I felt like I’m in home. It’s not expensive - you can get small soft taco for 3$ or “real”taco for 5$ - and you won’t be hungry after 2 of them. You got free nachos (lot of nachos), and as I remember - 5 or 6 different salsa (as much as you want) - all same as in Mexico. And you get free water ( also as much as you want). So basically we went for 2 tacos to try at home. And we’ve decided to stay there for 30 mins to enjoy the moment. That was awesome, if I visit Santa Barbara once again, I will visit this restaurant definitely!
Delicious tacos and burrito + margarita. Nice cozy restaurant with a some great live music.
In a city with more taquerias than you can count, Yona Redz makes some of the most delicious ones you can find. Traditional Street tacos with cilantro and onion for me with the really spicy Chile de Árbol salsa. If you're really hungry the Yona Special with 3 tacos (birria) and consomme to dip them in. Did I mention that those are quesotacos, if you haven't had one yet make it a priority. Inside and outside dining on the 500 block of State Street. Refreshing beverages too. You will not leave there hungry. Tell Yona I sent you!
Phenomenal queso tacos! And at a very fair price! Friendly service, clean, and well deserving of a tip. We will definitely be back.
Delicious Birria quesotacos and birria burritos! Tried the hibiscus Margarita and it was yummy! We also ordered the Veggie nachos and those had so much flavor and lots of veggies on it, best veggie nachos I have ever had. Best Birria in Town and that I have tasted. One of the best spots I have been to for great food.
The taco is good!! They provide basic sauces that you can grab some. Located on State street but the prices are reasonable.
Absolutely delicious lamb Berrian tacos classically served with side of consome. Go get some. Now. Get up and go, you won't regret it.

Went to Yona Redz for the first time yesterday for the beef birria sandwich for burger week. Great sandwich, will definitely get back here to try more items. A guy said to his friends outside "you will not be disappointed by anything they have"

Place is nice, dont know if we can order online is there any phone number active for this restaurant?...the one here does'nt work
The service was nice and quick. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It's small on the inside, but they have an outside setting.
It's okay
I had the Yona special, which had 3 birria tacos, consommé, and a drink. For the amount of food I was satisfied at the price they charge. Very high in fat and calories, super greasy, flavorful. Ask for extra napkins, eating these cleanly is next to impossible.
I had a great time with my long time friends who i havent seen for years. The food was good. I would give this place 5 stars but they didnt come through with adding toilet paper or paper towels in bathroom. I luckily had some paper towels for this specific reason when businesses dont provide what they are supposed to. I was able to clean up the mess that i had made with my own hand sanitizer and paper towels. So the next person or people would have a clean and nice smelling bathroom to use:)
We went for the $10 hamburger deal. We got the birria "burger", which was excellent. The place was very busy, so service was slow and inside it noisy and crowded. I definitely plan on going back.
The cucumber lime mocktail and potato taquitoes were awesome. Food is decent for vegetarians. Maybe a notch or two above taco bell. Good for casual eating. Lots of college kids eating there.
Veggie quest tacos were good! A little bigger than street tacos, excellent flavor. A little greasy, but what are you expecting from QUESO tacos lol. Wish there was a veggie consome option.
Yona Redz has an extensive menu of both traditional and somewhat unique takes on Mexican cuisine and fusion. I have only had their nachos , tacos and other basic items, but, I can say that the quality is really good. Highly recommend their asada and their birria de res...very flavorful. Service is quick and friendly. Prices are fair and moderate.
Yummy birria tacos, I wish they were spicy, but they had a good beef broth taste. Pork taco was good, but a little bland. Overall it was yummy. Came with broth and chips. Outside patio seating had heat lamps. Parking was a few blocks away for free timed spots, otherwise there's a paid lot. After dinner it was nice to walk around the street looking at different restaurants and shops.

Great tacos, the Yona Special is my favorite. The horchata was very much lacking though. Everything else is great.
I tried the nachos and it reminded me of Rudy's. To much cheese and not enough toppings like beans. Meat, guacamole, and sour cream. It slacked. The tacos were good but everything had way to much cheese you couldn't taste the birra for what it is for.
If you order anything that is not birria it will be below average tasting, and that's beyond the pricing debate. The birria is really delicious it's flavorful and not too greasy.
Third try not a charm.... The first time it was on a busy Monday meat and everything was fresh. Decided to invite coworkers on a Wednesday....not sure if it was a different chef or older meat. Overall it was not hitting like the first time. Decided to try again one last try on a Wednesday after work. The meat just tasted bland.... I ordered (goat) and I honestly felt like I was given beef. Overall sad to say due to inconsistentancy of a well seasoned/fresh Birria I won't be trying them again.
To much hype, this place was ok. It would have been better if the tortillas were fried a little longer, they literally fell apart as I tried to dip them in the consume. Than radio inside was very loud. I wish they would have told me about the specials for that day, which I over heard as I was sitting already eating. It would have saved me some money.
Food and prices are okay , customer service could definitely improve. They were out of Birria Ramen and red salsa so make sure to go in early , and make sure to go covered up they didn’t have heaters outside and it’s the only sitting available during these times. Tacos aren’t crispy just a heads up !
Taco Tuesday special Street Taco Chicken and had the Yona Special Birria Chicken was on the dry side, atleast had the Birria dip to help. Birria is a good choice. Free Nacho with salsa while you wait. It was better than the fries ordered, texture and old burned oil taste wasn't really what I know fries to be. Order at the counter and servered not too long after, was a quite evening.

Their raw oysters did not taste good. Took a long time to get them.
Tables dirty, we asked to eat there and they brought our order tied up in plastic bag with no plates or service. I had to go inside for that after I wiped off table and chair. There was virtually no salsa left, and there were only lids in the container, so had to ask for that too. The staff were mostly dismissive except for one guy who was running his tail off. The buritto was ok, but certainly did not make up for anything else. Would not recommend.
I really wanted to like this place but I was overall disappointed. Everything was over powered with the taste of cloves. I got the yona special and only one of my tacos had cheese. Definitely didn't fill me up for 17$. The green salsa was pretty good but if you can't handle heat then the green salsa isn't for you.
Coming from LA, the food was not that great. Cool place. I don't get the two in one restaurant with two different pos systems.
I went to yona redz and got myself a supreme combo to try everything. The food was good, but covered in orange grease and pretty much all tastes the same. The soup, taco, and quesadilla are all the same. I enjoyed the meal but I had a gut bomb only Satan himself could have concocted. And it hit me at the most inopportune time. I was on a date going on a walk then suddenly I was paralyzed. No bathroom in sight and trying not to ruin the date. I tried my best to make it back somewhere safe and while I was cutting through a park all hope was lost. As I screamed "don't look at me" to my date, my colon was destroyed. I'll spare any detail but I made it back home slightly traumatized. Moral of the story, enjoy at your own risk.
My girlfriend and I were introduced to birria in San Diego a few month ago at Mr.Birria in Santee. That was incredible and we loved it!!! We traveled up to Santa Barbara for the weekend and decided we would go out and try some birria at Yona Redz Birria, it was not good, we thought it was flavorless and not very tender personally the meat got stuck in my teeth. If it weren't for the spicy jalapenos they had at the salsa bar there wouldn't have been much flavor or spice at all. Very disappointed.
Tacos were soggy and not all that flavorful. Also, I spent $20 and the food wasn't even enough to fill me up. The tacos and quesadillas are very cheesy, and the service is okay, but the food is way overpriced and not nearly good enough to cost so much. Seating is a bit oddly placed and not the most comfortable either. It was cold outside as well and though there were heaters all around us, none of them were turned on.
The servers here were totally fine; a really busy day at fiesta, I get it, hard to keep up with the rush and stay excited and friendly. However, I wanted to get 3 street tacos, which should've been about 12 dollars plus tax; instead, the woman on register rang me up for their Yona Special, the same thing with a soup side for $17. When I tried to tell her that I just wanted the three individual tacos, she gave me a bit of a shocked look, then charged me for $22 dollars instead, the price of the combo plate if the tacos were purchased separately instead of being part of the deal. I just bit the bullet and paid so the long line of fiesta traffic could keep moving in. The outdoor menu also reported lower, incorrect pricing in addition to the disappointing service. If this was the only Mexican place in SB, the food would be great, but Lily's Taqueria has better meat and a much more generous pricing model, and is only a couple blocks away. Maybe I was unclear with my order in some way, but I still feel like the up charge, in addition to the high prices, was unfair.
Mannnnn I hate to say it, but they’ve REALLY dropped the ball in the last year or two from when these tacos were sold as a pop up. I know quesabirria tacos are always going to be more expensive than regular tacos, so when they miss it’s such a disappointment. Honestly the last few times I’ve gone the tacos aren’t even crispy, they’re barely dipped in the consome and heated up on the flat top - don’t even THINK you’ll get crispy cheese. On a Friday at 1 pm?? I got the yona special which was something like $19 before taxes that comes with 3 tacos and a side of consome, but when I added on a (teeny tiny) side of rice, my total was $27.12….with NO drink! Ain’t no way I’m coming back to pay almost $30 for mid tacos unless I’m already out at the bars and spent a fortune anyways. And even then I’ll probably just get street tacos or something. Sorry to say but my last visit was just such a joke.

This place turns into mexican nightclub at night in the upstairs portion. Was having a good time until another person in the club tried to fight me. If you are not a gang member stay out at night.
One of the worst Mexican restaurant I have been! I got food poisoning the whole day after eaten a single taco birria, I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews when the food is horrible!!!!!
Extremely poor attitude among staff. No sense of urgency. We had to literally wait 45 mins for tacos. They were literally talking about us in front us assuming we wouldn't understand them. Very unprofessional behavior.
Food wasn’t what we expected for the price too expensive and another thing they don’t let you used the bathroom and the lady in the cashier too rude
food was below average, spent 78 dollars for 5 tacos and asada fries, service was extremely slow, had to wait so long just and i was the only one in the building
The first and last +18 event I go to at yona redz. Very unorganized and expensive for no one to be in there and for it not to be fun.
This place has the worst mexican food I never tried in Santa Barbara. At least the especial plate of birria was salty and with pieces of bone. I pretty sure could get better food at any other taco place for less money.
I was sitting outside and even asked that chubby blond girl if they were open and she said no but manage to call two other people to come in and ignore me .. maybe the way I was dress but I definitely had money to spend.. I’ll never support these people .. they discriminate on how you dress ... don’t waste your money . Plus the birria taste like shot and it’s a small taco
Ordered two street tacos to go. When we arrived home there was nothing but chips and guac in the container. AND they were bland. Was so excited to try this place and was completely disappointed.
Such bad service! My wife & I came here to try this place out. As, we approach the restaurant we tried to place our order with the guy at the register and he asked us to wait because he was taking care of a table. We said, sure no problem and told him we would wait. We told the guy to let us know when he would be ready to take our order. As we sat down at the table that was literally right next to the register another couple walks in to the restaurant & the same guy who told us to wait “takes their order” My wife and I both look at each other and say, What just happened? He just literally told us to wait a second ago, but yet he then takes the order of the couple right behind us. Such BAD Service We will never come to this place again! We were totally ignored. Very disappointed with this unprofessional service.
The food was mid, I’ve had way better. It also made my stomach hurt towards the end and the workers were rude. They were laughing and making jokes when I was in the restroom. Food is way too expensive, unless they overcharged us. They also provided little to no service. Definitely would not come again.
I came here to have a nosh before a concert. I ordered the “famous” birria quesadilla taco. It was cold. Smallest portion of rice was $5. Cold. I notice two other couples are offered chips and salsa. They were white. I’m not. I ask the employee Mike why didn’t I get any. He said I’d order enough. My total plus tip was $19.84. I ask him what’s the price point? He scoffed. I asked him if it was because I’m not white. He told me to leave. Don’t go here unless you’re white because the self hating Mexican won’t offer you free chips and salsa.

I ordered tacos and they were about half the size they normally are, cut the portions in half. $20 for it by the way.
Came here from Solvang on a Tuesday, as my wife and I were just cruising and enjoying beach scenery, looking for a good "taco Tuesday" spot. It looked really good, so we paid for nearby parking only to find that it was closed!! We checked business hours on the website, where it said it was open. Talked to staff of the store next door, and they said sometimes it's open, but most of the time lately it's been closed, for no apparent reason!! No worries though.....Taqueria Santa Barbara was amazing with big portions. Don't bother with a maybe, take the for sure bet!!
WARNING DO NOT WORK WITH Yona Redz Catering. Avoid Yona Redz catering!! These Crooks destroyed all of our careful planning for our special day. There was no bar when guests arrived. No Water on tables, no wine on tables all of which were promised in the contract. We were promised 8 servers and only 3 appeared for 151 people. Food and drink that we paid for never appeared. No wine, the tacos were small and dried out, not what we had been served at our tasting. Yona Redz never responded to us after numerous attempts to try and resolve this or at least get some compensation for their breach of contract, overpriced underdelivered services. Avoid Yona Redz catering, they are crooks! They ruined out wedding day.
Took my family from out of town because they were craving good birria. Upon ordering our food, we were told AFTER paying and sitting down that they had run out of birria. I chalked it up to unfortunate timing until it happened to the customer who came after us as well. Not a restaurant owner myself, but if you run out of the one food you're known for perhaps you should tell customers BEFORE payment? Really disappointed in this business practice. Wish we could've gotten a refund but felt like too much work after already sitting down and paying for the dinner. Every customer who was there at the time looked extremely disappointed. Additionally, the waitress who took our order was repeatedly coughing without covering her mouth and also pet a customer's dog before serving our food. Will not be returning to this establishment and would NEVER recommend to anyone.
