Lock Chun Restaurant

Went here on a recommendation while waiting for car maintenance to get done and am happy to say I was absolutely thrilled with what I found. Nice small cozy place, really good food at decent prices, and probably the best potstickers I've had in my life.

This is the best Chinese restaurant I have found in the San Jose area. Mongolian Beef/Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, and their Eggrolls are my main go tos. Their prices have been creeping up steadily though and are on the higher end range now, putting them on par with the fancier Chinese restaurants in the area.

Been looking for a new chinese restaurant since my fave closed because the owners wanted to retire. This place is delicious and the wait staff is really friendly. I'm not too fond on bigger restaurants because they tend to lose the quality with getting lots of people in. During my date night here, i didnt notice several customers picking up orders and it was obvious to me that a majority were regular customers by how the wait staff knew them by name. I like small businesses succeeding. I will be definitely coming here to satisfy my chinese food cravings.

I have been eating at this place for twenty years, and I love their beef green pepper meal. In fact, I have even bought friends to this place and they enjoyed the service and the food.

You know a great Chinese joint when the hot and sour soup is the best. I miss the bay area. I moved Modesto 23 years ago. Chinese food there is Panda Express ie tastes Chung King frozen dinners. This place is the genuine deal. Clean and the staff is on the spot and kind. Was there at 1115 and it filled fast and even Chinese people brought families to eat here. You know they don't eat at panda ex but they eat here you know what I mean.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One of the great hole in the wall restaurants in San Jose. We love the tangerine beef and order it every time we go or get takeout.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. The service is great and the staff are super friendly. I really like the zha jiang mian, walnut shrimp, and the salt and pepper spareribs. I always order the combination fried rice and noodles as well. Great prices with large portions. Definitely would recommend!

Update 12.21.23 took my crew guys here for lunch today, the hot and sour soup was amazing, we had fresh green beans with garlic, chicken chow mein, chicken salad, Mongolian beef and it was all fresh, hot, tasty, a perfect treat to thank our crew for helping us with a great year. Highly recommend Lock Chun they've got some of the best Chinese food I've ever had at a fair price, it's easy to get in and out, doesn't get any better. My all time favorite Chinese restaurant. The parking can sometimes be full/challenging, the strip center is a little frumpy, and Lock Chun's space is bland and underwhelming BUT>>>>>their food is amazing, their service is attentive and they will go the extra mile to ensure your happiness. I'm a big fan of chicken salad and Lock Chun's doesn't disappoint. Just the right balance of lettuce, chicken, peanuts and dressing with a hint of something hot/spicy but not overwhelming. Some restaurants chicken salad is soggy with no taste or personality, NOT HERE. Their dishes are all fresh and tasty without that heavy oily/soggy experience you often get. I particularly like thier "salted fish" a light, white fish battered and deep fried with a hit of chili pepper and a pinch of sale, always light, fresh and appealing. Love their stir fried green beans, and hot and sour soup, but truthfully there haven't been any dishes we've ordered over the years that we didn't absolutely love. Great informal restaurant to take your family for dependable quality, fresh food and comfort food environment. I eat here frequently and would encourage you to check them out.

We ordered the veggie chow mein, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, potstickers and broccoli beef — and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were so good, and the portions were generous. They even gave us wontons, which was such a nice surprise! One thing we really appreciated is that they serve the food in the classic Chinese takeout boxes — we’ve been looking for a place that still does that, and it made the experience feel extra authentic. Had a wonderful family dinner here. My fam is cantonese and they enjoyed everything. We reccomend the green beans, mushu pork, Mongolian beef, chowmien Hong Kong style. Our kids also loved it! We had 7 in our party and it took some tetris-ing to fit all the dishes on the table. We will come back!

Each of the dishes was so great, it was impossible to pick the best. I will definitely be returning for their lunch specials to try out some more dishes!

I’ve been exploring the local scene as a Guide, and this place really hits the mark for quality and portion size. The Food: We ordered the Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables and the Beef with Broccoli combos. • Shrimp & Veggies: The shrimp were huge and snappy, and the vegetables (especially the broccoli and zucchini) were perfectly crisp-tender, not mushy at all. • Beef with Broccoli: The beef was tender and the sauce had that perfect savory glaze. • The Sides: Both plates came with a generous portion of Lo Mein and a crispy Egg Roll. The noodles have great texture and aren't overly greasy. The Vibe: It’s a straightforward, no-frills environment which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood staple. The service was quick, and the food arrived piping hot. Overall: Solid 5 stars for the value and consistency. This is definitely my new go-to when I’m craving a reliable combo plate!

This is probably my favorite chinese restaurant. Their food is amazing! My wife found this hidden gem. Will definitely be coming back often. Their service is amazing as well. My favorite dishes were their Jjampong as well as their Mongolian beef. Really love their hot sauce as well. All of their food are very flavorful as it has the right amount of spice. Some dishes can be a bit oily, but overall their food is amazing. Can't wait to try their other dishes as well. There is plenty of parking space. Really highly recommend this restaurant!!

This is probably my favorite chinese restaurant. Their food is amazing! My wife found this hidden gem. Will definitely be coming back often. Their service is amazing as well. My favorite dishes were their Jjampong as well as their Mongolian beef. Really love their hot sauce as well. All of their food are very flavorful as it has the right amount of spice. Food is always good. Raised prices slightly recently, but still a decent lunch value overall. Very good hot and sour soup too. Lightning fast at lunch time. In and out in 30 min.

**Updated ** We come here or take out atleast once every week. We really enjoy the food. It's always to our liking. We enjoy their soups, rice, chow mein, hot tea and chicken/ veggie dishes. I wish they had "fountain" drinks... can drinks are too expensive. **end of update** Service is pretty good. We feel welcomed when we walk in. I had not been there in some years, but I'm glad we decided to give it a try. It was just as good as we all remembered. We had walnut Shrimp, pork fried rice, BBQ pork chow mein, fried wontons, and sweet and sour pork. Yum, yum. On top of all that, we had excellent service and lots of tea and water refills from the waitress there. She was nice and friendly to us. We will go back again soon.

Came here for lunch and left happy. I ordered Spicy Garlic Chicken lunch special and food was solid. I wish it was spicier but adding chili sauce helped. Also came with soup and spring rolls. Hard to beat for $10.50. Portions were big enough and service was good.

This is a great local Chinese food restaurant. We love to food here and the pot stickers are delicious and home made.

I come here for their weekday lunch special, which is a pretty good deal for the quantity they serve. I eat less since I'm on a diet, so this meal is equivalent to two when it comes to me. For big eaters, it's plenty, and for regular eaters, you'll get some leftover to take home. My favorite is their lemon chicken! Sweet and soft. I will come back for this entree any day.

Unfortunately the food just isn’t the same anymore. Super friendly staff but would not come back. Also no one was in the restaurant if that tells you anything.

The Mongolian Beef was pretty good if you like spicy. I tried Szchewan Chicken and Orange peel and thought it was okay. Hot and Sour could use more boldness. Overall it good. Its been difficult to find a good Chinese.

Food is good but make sure you order your rice separately. It’s not indicated on the menu but no dinner options come with rice nor does the menu have an option to order rice. Made it all the way home with dinner for the whole family and no one had rice.

It's pretty sub par, so I don't understand the high rating. Maybe for Bay Area it's fine, but elsewhere, it wouldn't be open for long. Barely any flavours in the 3 different dishes I had. It took 5 minutes for us to get our food... so that's not promising. Rice wasn't fresh. Dirty water glasses. Server was friendly though.

I ordered a takeout, and as soon as I was about to pay for my order, the lady that's attending the register opened the door and left it open. Idk what that is about, but I'm beginning to sense this people are fishy and racist snob. Like she was trying to say something. I did not like that at all. I'm might not come back here. Rude customer service.

Looked for a spot to grab a quick lunch as I’m passing through. Ordered win ton soup. Had NO flavor. No seasoning. When I got to the bottom of the bowl the filling on all the wontons fell out. I ordered potstickers. That also had no flavor.

The best way to describe the food at this restaurant is Panda Express Light. Sweet and bland. My father, who was born in China and raised in China and Taiwan, said, "You can call this food, but not Chinese food." Most of the other customers were Caucasian, and the default utensils are a fork and a spoon (if you want chopsticks you have to ask for them). Not a very good experience.
