Opinions de The Hut Santa Clara
Dan is the man. The hut is the only remaining dive bar this close to Santa Clara campus, and outrage would ensue if it were to get shut down.
Great place to go for beers, BBQ and fun!
Ribs are excellent Beer is flowing Atmosphere is great
Great place, great hang out. Great for a business lunch meeting or a family chill night.
Great spot, good food, service, drinks. Nothing like the Hut back in the day, so we ready for it.
Great food and a very nice patio to enjoy a lunch. I'll be back.
Clean, great food, and friendly employees. We will be back for sure.
Great place. Good food great value and friendly staff.
Part nostalgia, maybe. But good beer selection and solid bbq.
Classic college bar upgraded for a nice experience for all!!
Friendly Staff, great food
Awesome place great food Staff was very friendly
Once a Dive Bar...the dark and dank place where generations of (some) Broncos flocked - infamous place - the place your shoes stuck to the flithy floor...Then! Some generous Alum gathered and infused the ancient site with all things new...voila! The NEW Hut - where your meal card from Benson works!
I placed an order online thru their website and unfortunately they never received it. I showed up within the ETA and the staff had me taken care of lickity split! Comfortable atmosphere and the food was great!
The mid-day lunch was quite tasty. The service was good, employees nice, and the restaurant was clean.
Nice shareable food, beers on tap. Happy hours upto 6pm is a bonus (check what days it’s available).
The best college bar ever. I used to study at SCU and made a lot of memories and friends here. Tuesday nights are fun here but the place is closed now.
Incredible staff. Came for my 21st birthday and they were super respectful and kind. I recommend anyone to visit 😊
Great atmosphere and great drinks! I definitely wouldn’t call it bar food considering it was so good :)
I love The Hut. I have made tons of great memories here. Everyone is super friendly and the drinks are amazing. Try the Grape Ape!!
What an upgrade... Great smoked meats and atmosphere. Definitely check out their legit smoker, if you're into that sort of thing.
Fun little place, great drinks and friendly staff :)
I have such fond memories when it was a classic college dive bar. It has been cleaned up. Still a great spot!
Great food and service. Atmosphere was nice. Quieter in the courtyard for talking.
Best fries around. Great beer selection. Perfect after class spot.
Good tri-tip and BBQ sauce. Well seasoned fries and some good bears.
This place is located right outside The Alameda (north) at Franklin entrance to Santa Clara University. The name is well-known from its previous life as a dive bar. Now it's an outstanding place to get barbecue. I can only speak to the burgers (the best you will find within more than a few miles) and their baby back ribs, which are the best I've had in the Bay Area. The fries and slaw are both recommended sides. There is a bar with a really nice selection of beers, both bottled and on tap, and wine. You can also dine outdoors. Open on Saturdays for brunch. The prices are commensurate with the quality of the food and ingredients. Currently, ample, free parking on the Alameda and Franklin, but that may change when the pandemic is over and most especially when the huge 575 Benton Mixed Use Project (The Alameda and Benton), a block away, opens in 2022. I will update this review when I have tried other items on the menu. Update: Pulled pork sandwich is great!
The Hut was a pleasant surprise. We stopped for lunch after a tour of the university. I had their veggie burger & side salad. Both were excellent. My daughter enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich..
Got invited with a friend. Previously this spot was a dive bar. Now it's a clean bright bbq joint that has a good eclectic choice of beers (with a full bar too). Service was fast and attentive. We arrived at just before noon and when we looked back after ordering there was a huge line (which moved quickly). Looking forward to heading back again.
They hosted an event for our group and the Buffalo cauliflower, beyond burger build your own burger, and Pinot Noir wine were good. Friendly black girl up front.
Great local BBQ place. Excellent smoke flavor in all the meats and a nice selection and sauces. Also has a descent tap list with rotating beers and a full bar.
Fun spot, essential to the Santa Clara University experience as a visitor! Great slushy drinks. Order the tri tip sandwich or grilled cheese and add tri tip. Great for drunchies later in the night too if you don’t finish!
Everything about this place was amazing they take such good care of you the second you walk in. Their drink selection is off the charts and food was fabulous. I got the tri tip sandwich and poured some bbq sauce on top. Plus we got some pickle chips which were fire. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
The place is outstanding. The food was absolutely delicious. Had a 1/2 lb burger with blue cheese crumbles and sauteed mushrooms and provolone. Every single bite was The Bite. One of the very very few times I didn't like i overpaid for a burger. Fries crispy and seasoned well. The beet and arugula salad ..... No words, order it. Prices were very fair and again you will make this a regular place once you try it. There is no table service. You order from the counter but it is a wonderful atmosphere with bar and non drinks. They will deliver food to table. I will return.
Had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and shared the BBQ Brisket appetizer. Both were really tasty! The Brisket Appetizer is served with garlic bread; it's basically a deconstructed sandwich that could be ordered as an entree. Very tender chunks of brisket drizzled with BBQ sauce. The pulled pork was tender and juicy with a nicely toasted bun. Their BBQ sauce is just the right balance for me of sweetness and vinegar. The service is incredible -- friendly and attentive on refills while we were eating. Highly recommended!
I was amazled. The chicken sandwich was so huge and crispy! The Hut sauce was also original and tasty. I wasn’t a fan of the bread for the impossible burger and they forgot my onion rings inside, but i was satisfied. Especially given how many fries i got. It was enough for me and my wife to share. The price was also good. Will have to go back.
Pictured is the tri-tip combo with baked beans and a hibiscus lemonade kombucha. Not bad for the price, and nice presentation. They let me sample two of the beers before ordering as well. Very friendly staff.
Wow Excellent food Service? Even better... They made mistake and grout double portions as apologizing
Small good cafe to hangout right near the university, the cost of food is also quite reasonable. Ambience- 3 Service - 5 Food - 5 Liquor- 4 Overall a good small cafe
the Tri tip sandwich was juicy and tender like brisket with excellent smoke

Excellent selection of beers on tap, superb BBQ, wonderful service, great vibes, our favorite neighborhood bar!
It's a college bar vibe with amazing BBQ. If you skip the ribs you did nobody a favour. These are some of the best in the south bay. (Dry rub, sauced at your table). The spicy chicken sandwich was excellent. If you think hummus is spicy the chipotle mayo on the default order is for you. If you want a really good idea, ask for the "catch 22" (I think it's what the lady called the spicy sauce that made it 5 stars). The beer choices were typical and underwhelming.
Really much better food than I expected of a college bar. We had wings, Mac and cheese and tritip plate. Tritip surprisingly tender and flavorful, I don't normally order this but did on staff recommendation. Wings cooked perfectly, crunchy outside but not dry inside with just enough spice in the sauce. Mac was ooey AND gooey but mushy

Food is great, service good. Just a little more than I wanted to spend.
It would have been nice to have real cutlery and plates rather than plastic.
Warm and friendly college dive bar. Good to hang in groups, watching sport.
Had the tri tip sandwich besides the bread being burnt the sandwich was good.
Clean, like way cleaner than before. 16 beers on tap, altho mostly lagers and IPAs. No ambers, reds, stouts. Pricey, but pretty big portions. I really liked the Buffalo cauliflower
A man named 'Big Dawg' offered me grass inside the establishment after my 8th mimosa. He then decided to light it up infront of my very eyes. He was escorted from the premises. Great times on a Saturday.
Decent food. Good draft beer. Worth coming and trying for an evening. Maybe during happy hours
The food was delicious, the service was good. Nice place. Definitely will be back! Thank you
Had a craving for a grilled cheese sandwich and I'm here to tell you it was the best I'd ever eaten. Ribs are on point as well
Great management, friendly owner, great tri-tip, number of choices of BBQ sauce, affordable, Fun atmosphere for a college sports Bar.
Good drinks and tasty food. Lunch here was surprisingly speedy and the servers were friendly.
Decent food with good portions. Staff was friendly and provided great service.
I came here for lunch and got the arugula, beet salad with tri-tip. I like the relaxed setting, and the salad was delicious. Knocking off one star because I didn’t feel the try tip was fresh. It had the look and taste of some thing microwaved from the day before. I’m sure it would’ve been delicious if I had ordered a plate and it was medium, rare and fresh. I will definitely come back and try again.
Great ribs. Dry rub was just right not too peppery. They have a selection of four different kinds of bbq sauces. Tri tip sandwich also very good. Only negative is booth seating is narrow for an average adult. We will definitely return next time we are in Santa Clara.
Loved the food. But given the price of the side, I expected more than 4 onion rings!
The food was a bit of a mixed bag! Their fried food is lovely; crispy and well seasoned, it’s freshly fried and piping hot when it hits the table. My friend got the tri-tip sandwich and greatly enjoyed it, my partner and I got a half rack of ribs with Mac and cheese and baked beans. The Mac and cheese was decent but a bit grainy, and the baked beans were mostly nice but very heavy on the cumin, and the ribs had a nice smokey flavor but you had to work a bit to get the meat off the bones. The staff was friendly and attentive, the ambiance was laid back and their tap options were excellent.
Small and quite - good vibe - happy hour is recommended - street tacos were yummy (tri tip) Beer selection is just ok but something for everybody
Oh, The Hut, I wish I could enjoy you more. I'm both an alumnus and a current graduate student at the University. Occasionally, it's convenient to drop by before or after night classes for some drinks and food. Or stop in before a home game. However, I've observed a rather peculiar pattern at The Hut – it can be almost empty with just a few customers in one moment. Then, suddenly, it becomes overwhelmingly crowded in a matter of minutes. Be prepared and give yourself extra time when visiting. While their small menu makes it suitable for snacking, none of the food items truly stand out. It’s honestly food that one could find at the Giants or Niners game. The food prices are surprisingly high for what they offer in terms of quality, portion, and customer experience. I don’t usually complain about cost because when we pay even higher prices, we have excellent service, which is rarely the case at the Hut. And a much nicer surrounding beyond wooden benches and uncomfortable stools. The vibe is low-key and best suited for a quick hangout. The drink prices are average and competitive with other bars, which we appreciate. Unfortunately, their service is consistently slow after you order and pay. The staff's demeanor varies; sometimes, they are super friendly, while other times, they seem miserable working there. It's disheartening to enter a place and see frowning faces. I’m unsure what is happening on the backend, but management should better support team members who sometimes seem overwhelmed. Although I'd love to give The Hut five stars, my numerous experiences over the years prevent me from doing so. My cohorts and I have had a couple of memorable nights there that were fun, so that’s positive! Since I’m part of the university community, I’ll be kind enough to give the Hut four stars and continue to support the business.
I was surprised how good the tri tip was. Really friendly and fast service. It’s a college spot so it’s lively but good food. I didn’t have drinks but the menu and bar setup looked great.
Old timers probably chafe at the refurbished Hut, all bright and clean, but let’s face it, the old one was stuck in the 1970s. Still a great local hangout. Highly recommended is the Grilled Cheese sandwich, just make sure you add the meat for only $2. I tried it with Tri Tip. The meat was wonderfully smoked and juicy and very generous (for $2!), I wish it was sliced thinner. Oh, and I should mention 12 rotating brews on tap. Check it out!

Great service, lively atmosphere, 50% of ribs were overcooked

Legendary Santa Clara hole in the wall bar. Closing down at the end of the year. Lots of good memories from here
Honestly not what I would call good barbecue.
College dive bar. A few decent beers and lots of liquor. Lots of college kids. Friendly, attentive bar tenders. Can be crowded.
I tried only pulled pork so my judgment is limited, however I do expect more from bbq. Beers are good
We ordered the tri tip sandwich with fries 🍟 The meat was smoked, good flavor but it had some grease at the sides and in the middle. The bread had garlic butter but it was dripping with butter. The French fries were way too salty and oily and came with a spicy seasoning that I didn’t like and I didn’t know it was included. They should specify that in the menu. They don’t update their website cause it says that on weekdays they have free fries with any sandwich but that’s not honored at the restaurant. The tri tip sandwich was $14 and the large fries were $8.
Food was good. Service was quick. A few beers on tap. Out of quite a few items @ 6PM. Not impressed with Instagram advertising 4-8 happy hour (still on the story) and being told it had changed to 4-6. Honor what was put on social media or take it down. (The 4-8 info was verified with an earlier phone call too).
The bartender wouldnt take my drink order and sent me to the sit-down queue. He then proceeded to let a non-minority make a larger order from the bar, which he just told me wasn't the process. I got vague responses when I questioned the rationale. Not my loss as the drink was meh and the sit-down queue prevented me from running a tab.
The atmosphere and service isn't too bad but the food was disappointing... the tri-tip sandwich was just meat and bread, the meat was rather rubbery and the bread was pretty hard and far too crunchy, to the point I had to put in effort each bite.
This place has a cool little vibe. They have an outside patio, which gets relatively crowded. We went on a week night and at first it was pretty empty and then all of a sudden it got crowded. The food you order at the front and they bring the food to your table. The portion sizes were pretty average. The flavor was nice. The reason I didn’t give it more stars was because we ordered another round of drinks and the same drink did not taste the same. the ribs and the chicken wings both had a nice smoky flavor. You self serve the sauces.. truffles fries had good truffle flavor just needed a little more crispness. Would probably go back for a weekday night to hang out and be low-key.

Chicken sandwich looked and tasted like a frozen meal. Mac and cheese was bland and tasteless.
Much more of a bar than a restaurant, but the food is pretty good. I enjoyed the tri tip sandwich. They have some goods beers as well. Small place though. Update: Took 2 stars off because the past 2 times I've been here none of the employees wear masks. I saw a guy bent over the counter to cut limes (which is not great for one's back but whatever. His face was so close to the limes that he was breathing on them, mask less. I'm here now as I write this and 5 of 6 employees that I've seen are not warring a mask. Also don't get the chicken, it's bland af. Asked a girl if the employees wear masks. She said yes, despite being the only person wearing a mask. SMH. Won't be back.
Order $11 worth of Mac and cheese.. this is what I got.. total rip off! Never ordering it again. For comparison.. their Tri tip sandwich is only $13. It was about a cup size.
The drinks here cost as much as a fancy place on Santana Row, but with the added pleasure of smelling like Jr High locker room after a big rain storm before Old Spice has come to give all the boys deodorant. The bathroom was a completely different adventure of smells. The dollars everywhere are cool. And it's full of college bros, so if that's what you're after, grab your favorite Chad and your beer pong balls.
Was really trying to give this establishment a chance. The ribs were fighting for its life to stay on the bone. Got a budlight (I know) and it unfortunately tasted like the color yellow. Swapped it for a moscow mule but they treated the drink like it was a lacroix. Barely any vodka in this. The redemption was the buffalo cauliflower but even that was testing my patience.
Worst BBQ I've had in a long time
Poor service from management here- wouldn’t go back.
The management closed the kitchen down an hour early knowing that a large party was on their way. Extremely inept service.
The Tri Tip has no flavor at all. The chicken tasted bad and was super dry
Doesn't have the vibe, regulars, legendary bartenders, and drinks it used to have. Not surprised it doesn't have the same turnout as a result...
OMG! Our first time here and we will NOT be back. $26 for one hamburger, 4 onion rings, 12 French fries. They stated they just raised their prices. Good luck staying in business.
Visited for my sister’s family weekend at Santa Clara, and overall, this place is great. Unfortunately, the manager was extremely rude for no reason, which completely soured the experience. It’s a shame when one person’s attitude brings down what would otherwise be a five-star establishment.
The receptionist is quite rude. After mixing up my order, she sighed when I informed her, and then she told the chef that I do not want my order; I understand she is very young and mischievous but she does not need to be rude and young and mischievous; anyhow the sandwich itself was fantastic.
The tri tip had little flavor. You need to dip it in the sauces they give you for any flavor. The ginger beer bottle was already opened and half empty.
This is a student bar that thinks it’s an upscale bbq restaurant. And it’s not. Everything’s expensive, the management is uptight, and it’s just not fun. Don’t recommend it.
I had an event booked there FOR THIS SATURDAY and was just told, 4 days before my event that they "have to cancel" because it's going to be too busy to host my event. I have had a contract and menu in place for months and I am absolutely astonished by the lack of respect and professionality of this place. Absolutely absurd! DO NOT BOOK EVENTS HERE!
Despicable. Went to a Santa Clara alumni wedding and the after the party was CONFIRMED to be at the hut and it was closed Without notice. As a proud alumni I could not be more disappointed in this institutions complete lack of attention to the importance of the hut to our culture and history. Go back to what you were or close.
This place is not the place it used to be, that’s for sure. It could be a cool place to hang out but — its just not. We walk in and get greeted by: “just so you know we are closing early, we just did last call but we can sell you one drink.” “Really..?” “Yea the manager wants to close early and it’s dead...” (It was 8:50, they close at 10pm. There were 15 ppl in the bar) DUDE! YOU ARE A BAR YOU STAY OPEN UNTIL THE HOUR POSTED ON THE DOOR! THATS WHAT BARS DO. The food and drinks are super expensive here! Meal for 2 is easily $50 with a beer. As an SCU alumni this is a huge disappointment, bring back the old Hut. Oh, and I want my dollar back!
Food is garbage… the bun is so hard you can’t chew it and the meat is very dry. It was $15 for just a sandwich with no fries or drink… worst BBQ I’ve had in years… very disappointing and now I have to go spend more money to buy food I can actually eat.
Went to Niner game, not knowing the area we are looking for somewhere to eat. On a Saturday night, restaurant hours showed they were open until 12am. It's maybe 10-10:15pm. We walked in, the doors are not locked, but we are told immediately they are closed so we leave. That was our whole experience.

Love the vibe and location, but the manager really changes the energy. She’s consistently rude and makes guests feel unwelcome for no reason. Hoping ownership takes notice because it’s a great spot otherwise
This seems like it would be a great place to hang and have a good time except for the fact that the customer service is not great. It feels like management needs customer service training. The way they speak to customers was rude and unprofessional. Changed the experience from great to most likely won’t go back.
The large woman with curly hair made my company feel unwelcome. My company and I were alumni who had been eating there for years when sick of food at campus, it was always average but we went for the people you would meet and the service. Both of which seem to be gone dying alumni events or the nights of the weekends, so I’d rather go to somewhere with the same price who knows the basics of how to treat someone. Especially as a group.
