In alta stagione é meglio telefonare e prenotare. Molti animali rimangono all'esterno e si possono accarezzare liberamente. Il maneggio ha anche un bar molto spartano con terrazza.
Excellent sandwiches, even though I paid €28 for 2 sandwiches, a beer and a coke…
Bar-restaurant with riding stables at the edge of the pine forest. Two very kind and always smiling ladies tend the bar. We went horseback riding with friends, and the staff were excellent! It was everyone's first time on horseback, but they reassured us and accompanied us, explaining the ropes very carefully. A beautiful ride through the pine forest!!! It's just a shame that it started raining around lunchtime, otherwise we would have stayed for the barbecue, which looked delicious! Thanks everyone, and see you next time! Miki
Top!!!
Molto carino.
We waited about 15 minutes to order two coffees, and nothing happened. Finally, we left. Kudos to you for your professionalism! P.S.: The bar was empty, with only two tables occupied, and everyone had already been served. Goodbye, never again...
I understand the difficulties for so many people, but I sang with white wine without ice and with normal Campari and not soda, 1 spritz, 1 water and 1 coke, €15 wasted, not even a crisp with the pseudo aperitif, wake up we are in 2025
Horrible experience! For three barbecues featuring only ribs and sausages (which were disgusting, by the way, I swear, I've never tasted such disgusting sausages) and a salad, we spent a whopping €101!!! Not even a seafood restaurant costs that much... we were speechless. We often stop by Santa Maria Maggiore, but we'll never set foot in this place again!
I've been going to Santa Maria Maggiore for twenty years, and unfortunately, this riding school has never convinced me about the way the horses are treated: they never have fresh hay available should they want it, the pens are tiny, and last week a horse had fresh wounds (saddle? Whip?) on his lower back, completely infested with flies. The staff is unfriendly and rude, shouting curses at the horses, "Stop! I told you not to scrape your teeth on the fence!" without asking why they do it. Finally, the ponies are handed over to parents for walks with their children. Parents, who lack the expertise and often sensitivity, don't know how to handle a horse with their child on its back, and simply pull the horse by the reins and drag it if it no longer wants to walk. Managing the animals isn't easy; if you're not skilled at it, stick to the bar area.
Truly a terrible experience. I paid €10 for a half-hour pony ride for my 4-year-old sister, and after less than 10 minutes I had to turn back because the pony (RIGHTLY) did whatever it wanted. They're all tied to trees from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, without food, with saddles on their backs, and they only drink when they go for walks with children. They hand the pony to the parents without an instructor to help. They gave me a whip, saying that if the pony doesn't go well or causes problems, they should whip it... plus, the children are free to roam without any protection. I refused to go for a walk in the pine forest; the horses have broken and untreated hooves, and there are signs of abuse on their bodies. During the walk, too, they are pulled and whipped. Absolutely NOT RECOMMENDED, and it's shameful that in 2024 we still see such scenes. EMBARRASSING!
We went to this riding stable to take the kids on ponies.... The cost is affordable, but it's a shame you can't even go 200 meters because they leave the ponies for you to ride and you put your child on top, and then you, the parent, have to lead the pony, but it's unmanageable.... The pony never listened to me, he always stopped to eat grass, and even the one carrying my husband almost ran to go where he wanted. It's a shame that with the 3-year-old on board, having to hold the pony, we couldn't hold the child and he risked falling off and hurting himself. In short, a nightmare!!! Never again. If ponies are hungry and stubborn as mules, you shouldn't leave them to poor inexperienced parents. It's especially dangerous for the children on them.
Terrible experience, paid €20 for two ponies for half an hour. Too bad we had to go back after less than 10 minutes. The ponies do whatever they want, and the kids got scared. When we returned, the manager said he'd accompany us if we'd asked. Too bad I wasn't told this when I paid, just a quick explanation of how they handled the pony. I was told I'm not used to pony rides, which made me angry. Does that mean they're providing something that's beyond everyone's control? Meanwhile, two other parents have gone back for the same reason. Never again.
Terrible experience. We had booked a 1-hour horseback ride for two a week in advance. Having already had experience, we agreed that a member of their staff would accompany us on horseback at all times. So we showed up the following Saturday, but surprise! No one knew about our reservation. I repeatedly told them that given the situation, they could postpone it, but no, they insisted. I didn't get on a horse, but I was already wanting to leave, until I noticed the stableman showing up on foot. We felt like we were children accompanied by a boy. With all the trails there are, he made us take the paved one, surrounded by strollers, dogs, and bikes that constantly passed us, so there was zero safety and peace of mind. My saddle was crooked, and one of my stirrups even came open—a total disaster. The stableman spent the ENTIRE time yelling on speakerphone to his wife in Indian/Arabic, ruining our entire ride, which was nothing but stress. We were taken back 17 minutes early; in my house, that's pure theft. If I pay for 1 hour, you let me do 1 hour. Or you refund me the difference. Ultimately, it was a good thing, because hearing this person continue to speak loudly in a language you don't understand while you're trying to relax by taking a walk was a real pain in the ass. To cool off, we sat down and ordered two grilled dishes. We asked if we could have something else instead of chicken and sausage, and they said yes. We still got the chicken, but oh well, when it came to the bill, these gentlemen were kind enough not to charge for a coffee. At least you should have served the 15-minute X2 charge you owed us to break even. We complained about what happened, and they offered to let us do another half hour for free, but tell me who's the lunatic who would ever want to repeat an experience like that? Dear Sirs, respect and consideration for customers are the foundation of any business that deals with people. Behind this initiative was a desire and an expectation to offer ourselves a beautiful, relaxing time, in contact with nature and animals. It's a gift you want to give yourself, and it costs, between this tortured €46 pony ride and the outrageous bill for the barbecue (because we paid almost €50 for 2 sausages, 1 salami, 1 rib, 1 chicken leg that we took away for the dog, 2 Cokes, and 1 portion of frozen chips), a total of almost €100 for the two of us, to disappoint us and ruin our weekend. We'll ignore the condition of the place because we're in a stable; many other reviews describe it perfectly. Oh, I forgot, on the way back we found a pony in an advanced state of pregnancy; the groom kicked it to make it go back to the stable. This alone gives you an idea of the level of civilization...never again!
Terrible! The bar was dirtier than the stable, I wouldn't have the courage to drink even a coffee in there, we only went in to pay for the pony, thank God we left immediately. The pony ride cost 10 euros for half an hour, but it's a shame they let the pony go and it goes on its own, meaning it leaves the stable and stops to eat at the first patch of grass and there's no way to move it. The staff is uninterested, they treat you as if you don't know how to lead the pony when in fact no one can, not even them soon. They should have a guide on the rides because it's not much for 10 euros wasted, but then the kids feel bad.
