Al Pho is known for flavorful pho with hearty servings and warm service. Many appreciate the vegan options and ghost chili oil. Some find the broth inconsistent, and service can be slow or inattentive, especially with phone orders. It can get crowded.

Opinions de Al Pho Santa Maria
Al Pho is my all time favorite Vietnamese restaurant and I lived in Long Beach for 10 years near Little Saigon. And I'm half Vietnamese. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the broth is perfection, the dipping sauces are amazing. The serving sizes are generous and I always have seconds leftover when I get the oxtail pho. Also, where else can you get oxtail pho?? The prices are decent. They serve wine and beer, and if u call ahead the order is always ready. It is never a long wait for food, but the place is always busy. Order at the front then sit down and they bring it to you. Great service, great owners. My daughters are 11 and 10 and refuse to eat at the other Vietnamese restaurant if this one is closed (on Wednesdays). So do I. It's not the same. Love love love this place.
Def one of the BEST places to eat Pho at. The food is genuinely delicious. The gentleman there (bald Asian gentleman) is on point with service and attentive to each table. The food is HOT, Spicy to your taste preference and quick service too. Really really flavourful food. Best Pho for me in California so far. I have had it in Mexico, San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego and many more places. This little place blew me away.
Al Pho’s food is DELICIOUS! Authentic, flavorful, and abundant. 😊 I often schedule my lunch meetings here and love introducing people to pho. I’m guessing they may need a larger location soon — maybe they can expand into the old Starbucks? Here’s hoping!
A must-go. Great pho for great price!! For those that are spicy food enthusiasts, TAKE IT EASY ON THE CHILI OIL!!! It looks innocent but the tiniest amount with wreck your world! It’s so delicious though…I can’t help myself every time. Seating is hard to come by at times, it’s very informal. But the food is definitely worth it!
Absolutely loved the chicken salad! The brisket is super flavorful and the perfect texture, never had a better pho brisket. The ghost wings were A+. The customer service is outstanding, every single person in here was friendly and had a good attitude. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. All around a very happy experience :)
The food here is absolutely addicting. I CRAVE this every week. The atmosphere is cozy, staff is friendly and quick to serve you your food. Speaking of food, the pho and spring rolls are delicious. I always go with extra beef for my pho. Whenever I come here it isn’t too crowded and there’s plenty of seats, including I think 5 tables and a counter/bar. Anyways, this place gets a five star. One of my fav food places. ❤️
I was missing my old Pho place from my hometown until we found this gem! You know a Pho place is good when their basic chicken Pho (picture below) is packed with flavor on its own and Al Pho is THAT good! If you love spicy like us then you have to try their Ghost Chili Oil, it is absolute literal fire and we love it!!! I don’t have a picture of it, but if you’re lucky you can even buy their chili oil in a jar and take a little piece of the delicious flavor home. I have also tried the Spring rolls and they are really fresh and tasty with delicious peanut sauce. For beverages we have tried the Iced Thai Tea and the Iced Vietnamese Coffee, both are amazing!
Nice taste of the vegan Pho Soup! At this place yiu can find a choice to eat healty with many options in the menu of thai and vietnamese cousine. Also, of you are driving thru 101 North Freeway, is a good options to eat on road. Razonable prices $.
Al Pho's pho is bursting with incredible flavors. The broth is rich and flavorful, infused with aromatic spices that create a harmonious balance. The noodles are perfectly cooked, providing a satisfying texture. The meats are tender adding depth to every bite. The addition of fresh herbs and condiments enhances the overall experience, creating a delightful combination of tastes.

Always great food & efficient service...they often have a line out the door! They pack take out pho in an ingenious way...we always return ready for more!
As always the food was flavorful. The servings were hearty and the customer service was warm and welcoming. This is the only place I will get pho

First time, tried the ghost Ramen. Definitely recommend to get the ghost chili on the side so you can control the spiciness. Great environment and vibes A place ide hang out after work at the bar area watching diners drive ins and dives.
First time here for Pho 🍜. Average price $15 per bowl. Any additional meat is $2.50 💰. 4 bowls, around $80. So the question is how is the pho? Here is my opinion, coming from someone who ate a lot of pho in his life. The beef was overcooked 🥩, the broth is ok, the meatball is very good 😋. Overall, the pho is average. Another question is, how is the Viet coffee? The Viet coffee is too sweet ☕, not enough coffee. If you want pho and you are in the area, try it out and let me know your opinion! #Pho #Noodles #Beef #Broth #Meatball #Coffee #Vietnamese #Food #Opinion #Review
I needed a pick-me-up after recovering from a fluke over the weekend, and the best way to do it was by ordering a bowl of beef pho. This place is one of the few places on the central coast that serves pho. As for the quality of the pho, I must say that I’ve had better in other places like Sacramento, where large Vietnamese community resides. After all when I’m craving pho or need a magical cure, I almost always go to Al Pho.

Their pho tastes really nice, it has nice light tasting broth with the perfect noodles to match. I really can’t rate the service though because I’ve only eaten inside once (they have a good pickup service that’s great for introverts, or just someone who’s in a rush). I believe they do have a bar there but it’s not like a full on pub, so I’d say it’s still pretty child friendly. They’ve got plenty of other good stuff too. :)

The food is delicious. But the customer service sucks. There’s a women who I’ve seen yell at customers because they have accidently try to sit before ordering. They should put a huge sign outside. Sometimes people don’t know how it works and it’s their first time. But I’ve seen the same employee always yell at customers. Don’t bother ordering over the phone. They will put you on hold for 5-10 minutes and sometimes the call drops. It’s easier to just wait in line at the entrance.
The soup was a bit soury and the rice plate was smaller than what I expected. But it wasn't really that bad. Took about 20 mi utes to get our food, understandable as it was busy.
Food: taste of broth is good. Portion of meat is small. Egg roll is size of a finger. Service: don't expect too much. You order and pay and they bring your food. Noone checked on us. Server did not seem happy to be working. Place is clean and has a bar with a few drafts and wine. If you just want to eat and go and don't really care for table service this place is ok.
Tried this place again. 2 years have passed and I was hopeful. It was definitely better than before. The ghost pepper wings are crazy crazy hot. Preferred the hoisin ones. The pho was better too. The noodles were gummy last time, they were good this go around. Not the best pho but for around here it is. Will likely return.
Seems impossible to get good Pho in central California. This place is no different. They have a lot of options but unfortunately the food was underwhelming. The broth in the Pho was bland without the sauces. A good broth shouldn’t need sauce. The vegetarian Spring roll was terrible. Couldn’t eat it. Tofu was in large chunks and there wasn’t much to the rolls like normal spring rolls that have vegetables. This only had lettuce and tofu with noodles in a wrap that was hard. Overall disappointing.
This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the broth is better than other time and sometimes the Thai tea is better than others. Seems like the last couple times it’s been in between. As seen in the picture there was an excessive amount of onion in my pho. I took a lot out and there was still a some in the bowl. The Thai tea also tasted like they use either old milk or old tea; ended up throwing it away.

I order pho with extra meat. To go. When I got home, it was a standard dish. I would try them one more time.
Don't try calling in an order when they are busy because they will forget you are on the phone waiting. I was on hold but I could hear the person taking orders. I waited 5 minutes and 3 customers ordered during that time and so i hung up. If you're gonna leave customers on hold.....check in with them every 2 to 3 minutes, is that so hard to do????
Sad to share: Owner and staff have been rude multiple times, condescending. One visit, I was told I shouldn’t be sitting, I should not sit down until I order. I politely stated my friend was ordering, they asked who my friend was. Felt very unwelcoming, odd. It really ruins the good food experience and atmosphere.
That's the last time I tip at all pho. Every time I try to order to go. I get put on hold for 10+ minutes. This time when I came in to pay they told me it would be a few minutes. 15 minutes later I go up to the counter and ask for an update and they pull my order off of a shelf. Who knows how long it was there without them saying anything. Food is 10/10. Service is 2/10 consistently bad every time.
delicious spring rolls. soup was uninspired on all levels. I wouldn't have eaten any of the ingredients on their own. broth was more like warm water. I added the sauce from the spring rolls to get any flavor at all. too many noodles, no where near enough protein. it was just boiled shredded chicken. nothing special, and not enough. bland and uninspired is the best thing I can say about the soup. wouldn't return if it was offered to me free. very friendly staff that clearly doesn't know what good soup is. 2 soup, 2 beers, 1 order spring rolls, approx $60 drastically overpriced for the quality.

Would definitely be getting more stars if they weren't always and I mean ALWAYS sold out of veggie pho. You would think they would notice how popular it is and make more?? Viet kitchen gets my business yet again.
The food is Good but mostly liquid of course and you will pay for it. We got one sprig of basil on the toppings plate for five of us. I asked for more they said okay but we have to charge you for it. Then tried to justify that by giving us a whole plate full, way too much. One or two sprigs more would have been fine.
I’ve eaten at Al Pho before and really liked the food, which makes this experience disappointing. I recently visited with my boys and had them save a table while I stood in line to order. The line was slow, and a few people cut in front of me, but I stayed patient. Just as I was about to order, a waitress told my boys they had to leave the table because we hadn’t ordered yet, even though I was literally next in line. It was embarrassing for them and frustrating for me as a parent. I understand if there’s a policy about seating before ordering, but it would’ve been more courteous to first check or explain rather than boot a family mid-order. I genuinely hope management reviews how staff communicate in these situations, especially with families who are actively trying to order. It’s a simple courtesy that goes a long way toward keeping loyal customers coming back.

Called 3 times today and kept getting put on hold! The last time was over 20 min! We finally went there while still on hold and it wasn’t even a line! They were just ignoring anybody that called and leaving them on hold! They don’t care about their customers! Talked to the manager and all he said was it was nothing he can do but he will try to talk to the workers! They are rude and act like their customers don’t mean anything.
Mistreatment of disabled gentleman. Do not dine here the staff are rude and the pho is BLAND
Horrible service from the employees because we sat at one table, the employee said we could not sit there because it was reserved but we sat in a different spot no sign again they told us that we could not sit there even though somebody just left that table a few seconds ago, then talked to us with an attitude. Food is acceptable but not the service
They have it posted that they are open until 9pm. I arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday and asked for a table and the receptionist told me they were closed. The place was only about 25% full, so it definitely wasn't because they were too busy. It's not like a bowl of soup takes a long time to prepare and to eat. I would have still been out before 9pm. Closing a restaurant 30 minutes early is a horrible business practice. I won't waste my money at a place that can't even honor their own operating hours. I'll take my business to Viet Kitchen instead.
They were “closed” 30 minutes before their actual closing time. Idk, maybe change the closing time to 8:30 pm ? Geez.
I used to love coming here, but I found a bug in my to-go order. It was still alive. I’m very thankful I didn’t eat it. I won’t be coming back here again.
The only reason this is considered "good" vietnamese food is because there are no good viet places in the area. Meat for the bun (vermicelli) is overcooked, pho is cloudy and over salted, and spring rolls are made of primarily noodles. Also don't try and go here even a couple hours before close. They have run completely out of food before. Like, literally there was nothing to order and they were open for another full hour. I am viet and most of these things contain one element that need actual cooking, the rest is assembly. How do you run out of food when that's the case? Honestly someone open more viet restaurants, places like this need some healthy competition.
People were nice. But the food was so bad. Like the worst pho ive ever had in my life. Very tasteless. It tasted like water. Didn't even take it to go . I dont recommend 🥲
The staff were friendly and the restaurant itself appeared clean and well maintained, which unfortunately made the overall experience even more disappointing once the food arrived. Given the pricing and presentation, I expected a much higher level of quality and care in the kitchen. I ordered the Ghost Pho, and the broth was shockingly underwhelming. It tasted watered down, lacking the depth, richness, and aromatic complexity that should be the foundation of any good pho. There was no noticeable balance of spices or slow-simmered flavor — just a flat, diluted taste that felt more like hot water than a properly prepared broth. The chili oil added heat, but it had virtually no flavor or character, which made it feel like spice for the sake of spice rather than something thoughtfully prepared to enhance the dish. For a menu item positioned as something bold or specialty, it completely missed the mark. After a few bites, it was clear the dish wasn’t enjoyable, and I ultimately left without finishing my meal, which is something I almost never do. Considering the price, the value simply isn’t there — paying premium prices for food that tastes this lackluster is frustrating. It’s disappointing because the front-of-house experience suggests a place that cares about quality, but the food does not reflect that at all. Based on this visit, I would not return and cannot recommend it to others looking for good pho or a worthwhile dining experience.
