Very very good coffee, strong, flavorful and made with craft & care. Friendly service and nice pastries too - excellent!

Great spot with delicious pastries and coffee. The indoor space is cozy and has multiple tables. Outdoor seating is perfect during the hot days

This place has the best coffee choices and it is always perfect. Hot chocolate is to die for and the pastries are out of this words. Love the atmosphere here every time!

Demitasse is a cozy little gourmet coffee shop with knowledgeable baristas. They have the normal coffee preparations and espresso drinks, but also excel in some more interesting and creative coffee drinks. The cold brew coffee is very good and they also have a very rich and delicious hot chocolate. I prefer the location in Little Tokyo, but the Santa Monica location is still great.

2nd time visited this Cafe. First time was in Little Tokyo, LA. Now in Santa Monica. Friendly people. Love the Chocolate Almond Croissant and the syphone coffee.

Coffee is amazeballs! Had the iced latte and it was done really well. Cute little shop with a funky vibe and some great cold brew options.

Pleasant welcome, refined Zen atmosphere 🪷, atypical products, fruit salads and excellent coffee to sip on a pleasant little terrace. Excellent value for money

Great coffee and nice service in a quiet part of Santa Monica. The specialty pandan latte was a bit sweet for my liking but very nice otherwise, and the almond latte was also really good.

Fantastic friendly service with a great south facing outside seating area. The really care about their coffee. Wish I'd found this place earlier

D

I got a Cappuccino, my go to, and a chocolate croissant. Both very delicious and paired well together. The staff was helpful and friendly, not at all pretentious, like some small coffee shops. A must stop for really coffee lovers and just off the Promenade!

L
Lucia Kim

The signature latte was good and the almond bites were delicious not too sweet.

Such a quaint little spot. Made me feel like I was in Gramercy Park in NYC. The mint iced cortada is maybe better than Phil's... Their hot chocolate is great to bring home ms mix with a half gallon of oat milk....little too intense on its own hahaha. Such a cute and thoughtful outdoor area with the reclaiming of the parking spots and meters.

We love their coffee and espresso drinks. Latte was well balanced and just perfect for me. (I really don’t like some cafes make “almost milk” latte and you barely taste the espresso) We also love their beans! It made me happy every morning!

F
Farooq Mian

They do it right! I’m a coffee snob and for me to say their beans are roasted right, their flavors are great and cup sizes are perfect - takes a lot. The barista tapped and drew the espresso correctly and steamed the milk in my mocha right. Only wish they were open late. An authentic artisan coffee shop.

Iced minty cubano is the equivalent of Philz mint mojito and I kinda love it, refreshing. Do not love that it was $7.25 + $1.35 for oat milk but what can you do

J

Great coffee if you like strong coffee which we do. We tried several and they are all terrific and we are very picky. Smooth and hot too. Amazing baked goods too. This is coffee shangri la.

Best coffee shop I've ever been to. Expensive, but the quality matches up. They have a variety of normal and special brews to choose from. Desserts also. Good Wi-Fi available and tables are amenable to doing homework or work-related tasks. Get the sense that the staff doesn't mind if you stay awhile. They are VERY friendly and the place has a calm, focused vibe. It's just small so you might have to wait for a seat.

S

Simply amazing coffee. I recommend trying whatever the special of the day is. The cafe is small but there is nice sunny seating outside on third street that is surprisingly mellow, given where it's located. They have a small good selection of pastries and treats to accompany your caffeine.

Preferred drop-off place for breakfast in SM. Employees very nice and patient, especially for non-native speakers. Delicious croissant like in any parisian bakery. Highly recommended.

A great neighborhood coffee shop with high quality coffee, good breakfast burritos, and great pastries. The prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. Highly recommend if in the area.

Fantastic coffee, always served with a smile. Cannot recommend this place enough! Favorite drinks are the iced minty Cuban and the black cold brew.

I loved this place. The barista was really nice, and my tea was lovely. I got the Garden of Eden, which was an Earl Grey, steeped with a bunch of herbs, flavoured with maple cotton candy, with some maple syrup-like thing. It was wonderful. I highly recommend.

Coming from Australia we grew up with sweet chocolate, so arriving in the States I found it very difficult to find a decent hot chocolate that wasn’t bitter or watered down. Demitasse delivered the goods! While the hot chocolate was a bit more bitter, it was by far the best we’ve had. My partner also enjoyed the coffees (he hasn’t had a decent one since). Demitasse became our daily spot and the croissants are fabulous and buttery as well.

K
Kate Jimenez

Fabulous spot for coffee and pastries. Coffee is strong and flavorful, pastries are flaky and delicious. Service is amazing - fast and friendly. Hot americano and a ham & cheese croissant are my go-to. Never disappoints!

My go-to spot in the neighborhood for a coffee on a sunny day! Their offerings are delectable, I am always greeted with a smile & such kindness, and there’s always a spot to sit outside to take in the sunshine before navigating through the day.

A

Meticulously brewed coffee! Loved the vibe here, and the coffee was even better. I usually try to explore different shops on vacation but the quality and atmosphere at Demitasse kept me coming back. Mainly, opted for the flat white, cortado or cold brew, these were all great.

C

Very solid coffee and espresso drinks. Latte art was really pretty! The siphon takes a while, be aware, but is a neat experience. Pourover was good. I didn't try the Americano myself but was told it was good. Cute ambiance and always the friendliest baristas!

N

I can only have decaf these days, so I'm not super picky since I know my choices are limited, but this decaf iced latte was hands down the best tasting coffee beverage I have had in maybe forever. Just really excellent. And the staff were super nice and enthusiastic. Cute spot for meetings or chilling with your laptop.

N
Nicola Wiseman

This is still one of the best coffee experiences on the westside. Coffee is always excellent and their pastries are miles better than most of the other high end/3rd wave coffee places. I never had a bad or off cup of coffee here and I’ve been coming for years.

Their iced coffees are delicious. Good flavors without the overwhelming bitterness of cold brews. Good selection of pre-made but still tasty pastries. It's just off the promenade so it's a bit secluded (whenever I go at least), and I like it that way.

Amazing quirky coffee shop in Santa Monica just off the promenade over Wiltshire Yummy pastries

This is my favorite local spot to pick up beans. Usually a decent selection of single source beans in stock—3 or 4 to choose from. These are top notch roasts with flavor profiles rivaling beans from other “blue” purveyors at half the cost. They have great deals the more you buy. And every time I buy that hand me 3 or 4 cards for free espresso drinks and offer me one at time of purchase. Such a great little shop! And they have amazing pastries and good music.

I am a huge coffee nerd and I confirm the espresso here is fire. Had it separately from the ice cream lmao

Best latte I had in days. The pastry is also good and they have cute mascot and plant in store. Check it out.

Very cozy artisan coffee and tea shop with delicious pastries. Today I just wanted to try something from their Seasonal Menu. I ordered the Hot Apple Cider, $6. It was so tasty, I want to go home and make my own. My friend ordered a latte and we sat inside to sip our drinks before leaving to do our errands. The staff here are all very friendly with a smile. In the past, I have had some of their pastries. The ham and cheese croissant with a gerkin ( pickle) on top is my favorite. This is a meal! Do come in, pause, soak in the atmosphere. I felt like I was in Europe!

Medium roast throughout: had some tantalizing drink options. Seating area is old school meets practical. Team is polite and helpful, knowledgeable. Got the Siphon. Worth the 10 min wait as it was delicious!

I love this cafe. Their pastries and coffee are so delicious. Everything tastes very fresh. The ham and cheese croissant was great. My boyfriend enjoyed the Kyoto coffee and said it was very strong. No complaints on his end. The atmosphere is very laid back and welcoming.

Demitasse is the kind of coffee shop that reminds you why LA coffee culture gets taken seriously. Excellent beans, expertly pulled shots, and zero fluff — this is coffee for people who actually like coffee. The vibe is minimal and calm, perfect for a quick caffeine reset or a focused pause in the middle of Santa Monica. No gimmicks, just really solid coffee done right. Pro tip: Grab your coffee to go and head to the terrace just a block away, off 3rd Street Promenade — it’s the perfect spot to sit, sip, and quietly judge everyone’s drink choices in peace. ☕🌞

Best coffee place in Santa Monica. I come here often with my coworkers. Their coffee beans are so good. They are the best beans I’ve ever bought. The matcha latte is great as well. The staff are super friendly and the vibe is so chill and relaxing. They also put rotating artwork on the walls.

Good offering of third wave coffee at the tail end of the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica. They have a very nice espresso and lattes, and the pastries are good too. Decent seating space as well to work with a laptop. We'll worth checking out on. Santa Monica stay

Fantastic, incredibly delicious coffee!! My oat milk latte was so beautiful and had the most amazing flavor, very nutty and roasted. There was lots of seating inside and outside, lots of places to sit down. The service was fast and the baristas were very nice. They have a bathroom inside as well. I highly recommend it!

Their matcha latte is truly exceptional - creamy, smooth, and perfectly balanced with a vibrant, earthy flavor that stands out. You can tell they use high-quality matcha, which makes all the difference. The cafe itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a modern vibe that's perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. The staff is also very friendly. Demitasse is definitely a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a quality matcha latte or explore unique, expertly crafted drinks!

A place where people care about their craft - and it shows in the attention to detail. The Kyoto cold brew is incredible, and they even serve it in a pitcher with an icecube inside a hollow to keep the coffee cold without watering it down. I asked about the coffee’s story, and found out that managers Bobby and Carlos taste-tested grind settings to find the perfect combination. It’s expensive, but you pay for quality. Plus - for a place run by coffee nerds, the vibe is remarkably warm, homey, and unpretentious. Feels more like a small European cafe than most places I’ve found in California. Definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed minty latte here. (forgot the exact menu name) I don't usually enjoy minty things in general at all, but it went pretty well with lightly sweetened latte, so it was quite pleasant experience. However, I felt like Kyoto (one of coffee menu) was way too sour than what I can enjoy. Inside is quite cute so might be nice to sit down and chill, although number of seats are quite limited so it could be challenging to grab a seat depending on what time it is.

Demitasse feels like a cafe built by people who treat coffee like an art form but never forget that it’s also supposed to make you happy. You walk in and the place has that thoughtful creative pulse, warm wood, modern lines, and a quiet seriousness behind the bar that tells you these folks don’t play when it comes to beans. The espresso hits clean and bright, the kind of shot that wakes up both your brain and your belief in good decisions. Their lavender latte has a calm confidence to it floral without being precious and the hot chocolate tastes like someone melted down actual ambition. Even the pastries feel intentional, fresh enough to tempt you even when you swore you were not grabbing food today. It’s smart, warm, slightly nerdy in the best way and it’s the kind of Santa Monica spot where you feel like you’re in the hands of people who genuinely love what they do.

Lattes were done well. Kyoto coffee was interesting. Not too many choices for pastries by the time we got there, but the chocolate croissant was definitely better than the pretzel croissant ;) Nice and plenty of seating inside and out.

I arrived at the coffee shop around 07:10 am and there were already a number of customers, which was a good sign that it is a well loved coffee shop. I ordered a Pain Au Chocolate and a siphon coffee. The siphon coffee lived up to the expectation. It was clean, sweet, floral, very balanced extraction with the right amount of strength. It was serviced in a double wall decanter, and a double wall glass mug. It was an excellent choice because for a coffee this good, I wanted to keep it warm and enjoy it slowly. For the pastry though, I would say it was fairly average. No complaints, but it is also like a grocery store pastry, so it's alright. The baristas are also slightly above average. They're friendlier than am average Starbucks barista, but also not as personable as a boutique shop barista. All in all it's an above average experience.

(double check your receipt!) I really love the coffee and pastries here, however, an extra $6 item that I did not order was added to my purchase on 2 separate occasions the last two times that I came here. After seeing this on my receipt once I had already left, I did call about this 1 of the times that this happened, and the employee apologized and quickly reversed the incorrect part of the transaction. However, it was disappointing that this happened twice.

A solid coffee shop with good quality drinks, but in a city with so many options, it just doesn't stand out much. Demitasse was nice. It's a relatively quiet cafe across the street from the end of the 3rd Street Promenade, and the seating inside looks pretty cozy, with lots of cushions. That is, if you're able to get any seating. There's only a few tables, and it's an extremely small and cramped space, so it's difficult to order and wait for drinks, let alone find somewhere to sit. We wanted to come here and try some of their coffee and work on our laptops and study, but there was no seating inside, and the WiFi was terrible. We sat at one of the tables outside for a little bit, but it just wasn't working for us. The mocha was pretty good, nothing amazing though. The treats and snacks here are solid as well, but also nothing amazing. I wouldn't come back twice, I guess is what I'm trying to say. They serve good drinks and good food, and cozy seating for those that are able to grab one. That's about it. In a city full of coffee shops, I expect a lot more. I come to these places with the intention of finding a comfortable place to seat and get some work done while drinking my coffee, and that's just not very feasible here. It gets four stars for providing solid and good quality products, but it's nothing more than that, and I don't think I would go back again.

B

Solid place for coffee and expensive tea, but seating, while decent, has a big chunk that's directly in the sun or outside, so even if you can have your drink on the premises, you might want to count on taking your drink to go.

S

Cozy coffeehouse with free WiFi and strong coffee. I come here whenever I need a strong kick in the afternoon. There’s usually no line although there’s a steady stream of people throughout the day. I like the iced minty cubano (~$6) which has a mint leaf garnishing, but no minty flavor. However it’s smooth and great with whole milk (although you can pick from alternatives like almond and oat milk). You can see the barista make your drink and they’ll give it to you in the back of the counter. I also like the liquid lavender hot chocolate during colder days. It’s an extremely thick drinking chocolate (~$7) that hits the spot. It’s the right amount of sweet and bitter with a toasted marshmallow on top. I like to let my marshmallow sit on the top but most people will mix it in for more sweetness. There’s WiFi codes on slips of paper in the back and there’s also a restroom in the back. They use bamboo straws which I think is awesome and they also have good items. The breakfast burrito is very filling and a solid choice. Overall it’s a quaint coffee shop to stop by and get your caffeine fix.

Stopped by for a coffee and pastry to take away. The pastry was delicious (I had the pain au chocolat), the only thing is the line was out of the door by the time I got there and didn’t move particularly fast.

Love this place, only qualm is that they don’t have a lot of seating and what little they do have they reserve two tables/ multiple chairs “for the manager” and put their employees things there (but don’t actually sit). Even after asking, they didn’t free up the tables and the space continued to be taken up by employee ‘stuff’ but no customers for the next two hours. Strange choice for a coffee shop…

We found this place by searching for a coffee shop while visiting Santa Monica Pier. It had good ratings so we decided this was the place to visit. When you walk in, there is a Kyoto iced coffee contraption which is dripping ice water one drop at a time to make the iced coffee. I didn’t try it, but I’d like to. The Cappuccino was great and very strong which is exactly how I like it. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and we sat outside. We had no complaints at all about this place and recommend it.

Ordered a flat white and an acai bowl. Food and coffee was nice. Server felt a bit cold but bar that the coffee was good 👍

**Great coffee, but be prepared to pay whatever they feel like charging.** The coffee at this shop is fantastic, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The space is also cute and inviting, with plenty of seating to enjoy your cup of joe. However, be aware that the shop charges a $1 "dining in" fee, for a cup of coffee, which is not actually a tax. Additionally, the prices for coffee vary each time I visit. For example, today I ordered a half-caf latte and was shocked to hear that it would cost $8.50 for an 8oz cup of coffee. I have been to coffee shops all over the world, and I have never been charged so much for a latte, even at fine dining establishments. When I asked about the high price, I was told that the shop charges $2 for half-caf drinks because they have to pull an extra shot. I am not sure if this is accurate, but I have never been charged extra for half-caf coffee at any other coffee shop. Half-caf does not mean extra shot! Overall, the coffee at this shop is great, but the prices are outrageous. If you don't mind paying whatever they feel like charging, then this is the place for you. **Here is a star rating breakdown:** * Coffee: 5 stars * Service: 4 stars * Value: 0 stars

Average coffee. Only their Milky Way blend was available for the flat white, which had chocolate, prune notes.

It’s hard to write even a somewhat critical review when this place is constantly packed. However, the cappuccino wasn’t as smooth as it should have been—perhaps over-extracted. The baked goods were decent, though a bit too sweet for my taste, but I’m sure that’s the least of anyone’s concerns. :)

Was hoping they would know how to brew tea, given they make their own Chai blend, but was served this chai tea, which I think could have been good, had it been given a chance to brew. Maybe next time I’ll try specifying to have the milk on the side and ask for a little more tea in the tea bag - this is not enough for a chai blend in such a large cup.

I visited Demitasse a couple of times and was disappointed on both occasions. The first time, my cappuccino was mediocre at best, it was hot and bland. When I gave it another try another day, I had the seasonal drink Blue Monday, a latte with lemon rosemary syrup and butterfly pea flower tea. It tasted so watered down that I could hardly taste espresso or see the iconic butterfly pea flower color, all I got was rosemary taste over bland hot milk. Anyway, the recipe is probably a bad idea in the first place. To give Demitasse credit, the parklet seating area is pretty nice. But it was left mostly unattended during my visit and tables weren't very clean.

Came in for the lavender hot chocolate and it was lukewarm, didn’t have a drop of lavender in it and they didn’t have any marshmallows (first thing in the morning). Also got a hazelnut chocolate croissant that I was told couldn’t be warmed up, but then the guy behind us ordered food that somehow could be warmed up. 🫤 It’s cute and you can get by on it if you’re a tourist and can’t get anywhere else, but for anyone with access to a car this is a hard pass, go somewhere else.

For being a coffee shop, the employees have no energy and seemed so bothered. No greeting hello, alright whatever. Doesn’t lmk what my total is. Alright whatever. Get my order. Lemon thyme tea tastes like brisk iced tea on ice. But still good, hence the 2 stars. Lavender latte with oat milk had no lavender in it whatsoever. I wish I would have tried my drinks before driving off but I figured since I paid for a lavender latte that is what I was going to get.

Update: their prices are crazy. $4.50 for just espresso!! Probably highest I've ever seen. In comparison, Espresso Cielo down the road is $3.75, so I will always go there instead. Solid espresso. However, their beans need better quality control. Every bag of coffee I buy here contains at least one super hard unroasted bean that gets stuck in my burr grinder and is a pain to extract. Also their store smells bad and you can smell it 20 yards down the sidewalk.

I discovered Demmitasse about 2 years ago and was super excited to have a new, local, little mom and pop feel, adorable coffee house to visit as a new regular. My first impression was lovely, my coffee was fabulous and the foam was tiny micro perfect foam, I quickly became a regular and brought as many people there as I could...I was so happy about it. However as time goes by, I have become more and more disappointed with not only my interactions with the employees but also my very simple basic latte. As many times as I have been there, as many friends and family members I have turned on to Demitasse, I would think by now, they would; at minimum remember my name, or my face or even just my drink considering I get the same thing every time....however when I go in there, it's as if they have never seen me before, it's shocking to be honest. Keep in mind I worked at a coffee shop for about 10 years and know very well how the coffee/customer service industry works. Now days my lattes seem thoughtless, they are light in weight and extremely overly foamy (not creamy delicious foam), I'm just constantly disappointed. I brought my old boss from the coffee shop in there on Saturday morning and he too noticed that the employees almost made it seem as though we were a burden to surve, at this point I am embarrassed that I brought him there. I love the atmosphere and the idea of their concept, it seemed perfect. I hope perhaps one day soon things will come back around to a more friendly, conscious and high quality coffee house that is welcoming and fun to go into. Thanks for taking the time to read this review, I know it's a long one.

While it's a quaint coffee shop with good service, the food experienced was subpar. Chose their burrito and it was serve cold and inedible even though we saw them put on a griddle hot plate for several minutes. Also opted for a stuffed croissant which could of benefitted from being served warmed. Stick to the coffee.

Most coffee flavoring/syrups are premade. The in-house specials were not offered in a hot latte so more offerings for cold drinks. Their almond and oatmilk are nothing special, would prefer unique brands.

Decided to try out the Kyoto coffee but it did not seem too different from normal cold brew to me despite the high price of $7. Wanted to get a pastry as well but was deterred by the number of fruit flies whizzing by them when I came on a Sat afternoon.

The girl making the coffee was very rude, the guy told us they only had oat and almond milk. She told someone else the had low fat milk. Asked for a double espresso and we only received a single espresso. When we questioned it they weee very rude.

The lavender hot (barely warm) chocolate was served in small paper cups, which was super disappointing. It was super sugary. Am I the only one that had a bad experience considering that’s what everyone else seems to be recommending?

Very first impression: quite some nice places for speciality coffee in Santa Monica. But… the Lavender Liquid Hot Chocolate wasn’t really hot. It was rather a cup full of a bit watery chocolate with a mushy/ squishy marshmallow on top. Disappointing. Similar experience with the coffee. Well prepared, the siphon was nice, but seems a bit more show than taste: The coffee lacked intensity and roundness. There are better coffees around.

The lady at the counter was not friendly at all. On two consecutive days, she told us in a rude manner that she was closing. Next time, it would be better to inform customers in advance that you will be closing before they place an order.

Barista (Juanita?) looked at me like l'd asked them to donate a kidney when I politely requested my latte be served the way I ordered - with cinnamon mixed in. I was told 'You can do it yourself.' If you enjoy overpaying to be treated like an inconvenience, this place is your Disneyland. I, however, will be fueling my caffeine addiction elsewhere. Recommend Primo Passo just up the street!

I was searching for a good spot to drink a nice cup of coffee and this place look interesting to check out, we ask the the lady at the conter some question about coffee and she didn't have a clue what we where asking her about coffee? You work in a coffee shop and your a barista you should know the coffee your serving at lease where is from and if is dark roast or not. Common question people ask. Then it come to the chocolate croissant, the chocolate inside was solid hard and it was cold and they don't have a oven to toast it to warm it up. over all bad experience. They should learn the basics to be a barista.

Walk in it's 2:50pm asked for a coffee, pink-haired lady with the nose-ring says we're closing in a hour...and? First time ever I've been to a coffee shop that won't make someone a coffee during business hours!

I’ve been coming here for years and today the experience made me wonder if I’ll be back. I asked for cappuccinos at the cashier and he responded with a bit of an attitude “we don’t do Frappuccinos”, second, the barista held one cup in her hand, leaving the other in front of it and said “this is regular” (we ordered 2, one regular, the other 2%”) it was not clear which was which. Then there was nothing left in the dog treat jar for my dog either. finally, the coffee tasted visibly watery today for cappuccinos. Ugh, I hope this improves because I do enjoy coming here. Bring back the old team please.

Today was the third and LAST time I’m coming to this place. Waited 15 minutes for a matcha late! Instead of hot as I ordered it was on ice. The hot late was barely warm! The gird remake it twice but couldn’t make it warm! I just left. Waste of time on overpriced GARBAGE
