Opinions de Uovo Santa Monica
As soon as I stepped inside, the rich truffle aroma instantly caught my attention and set the tone for an incredible meal. I chose the truffle pasta with mushrooms on the side, and it was absolutely divine. The flavors were deep, comforting, and perfectly balanced in every bite.
Going 5 stars across the board for the best meal under 100.00 I’ve had in Santa Monica to date. Tried the starters, the pasta, dessert and two glasses of wine and left very satisfied. Met nice people working and eating. Great vibes all around. Get there later when the crowd thins a little for more elbow room. Cacio e Pepe as it should be. While you wait walk across the street and look at the beautiful historic building.
I would like to start this review by stating how our service was. It took awhile to be seated, but once seated we were greeted by Eternity. She was very welcoming and professional. The yellowtail carpaccio was excellent! The pasta was also great and the panna cotta was delicate. Thank you!
The tasting menus are excellent! The dishes work together very well. From crude to three pastas, topped off with dessert by the end. Perfect for a date night. And the tiramisu is out of this world—layered with what feels like mousse, ice cream, and coffee on the bottom plus just the right amont of crunchiness. The only thing that could be better: I wish it is a tad brighter inside so we wouldn’t need flashlight to read the menu!
Great place for pastas and prices are reasonable. We liked it so much we went back 3 times in the same week (between 2 LA restaurant locations). The tasting menus are great. All them. We have a preference for the one with truffle sauce pastas. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Wines were also very nice. Best to sit at the bar to enjoy the experience. Just go for it. Worth every dollar.
Hands down, this is the best pasta bar I’ve tried. Everything looks simple at first glance, but every dish is cooked to order and absolutely perfect. Watching the chef work the open kitchen is part of the fun, you can really see the care and precision that goes into each plate. The cacio e pepe was unreal. Finished in the cheese wheel, with the melted cheese clinging perfectly to the pasta, rich, creamy, and so satisfying. The ragu looked pretty humble, but once it was tossed with that perfectly al dente pasta, the depth really came through. You could taste how long that meat sauce had been slowly cooked down, deep, savory, and full of flavor. Such an awesome lunch spot overall, and I’ll definitely be back for more.
Have been wanting to go to Uovo ever since they had a table at the US Open. Had it bookmarked on the map for when we were in the area. Finally got the chance to go and it was amazing. We split 3 dishes and they were all fresh and tasted great. One thing to note is they add 16% onto the check for "funding their operation." There's not even an option to add tip, which I like. They specifically mention it's a no tipping restaurant. I appreciate that and wish more places did it. Although I don't understand why they don't just roll it into their prices and just say it's no tipping. It was great and I'd like to go back.
Been coming here for many years since it opened and always had wonderful service. Took my spouse here for the first time last Sunday - we got the taste menu to give her a verity of options. She has not stopped talking about her experience and the dishes we had all week. Went to another pasta restaurant couple days later and no one is meeting her standards now. Except Uovo. Tiramisu was out of the world for her as well. Thank you for all plentiful experiences
Erica was fantastic. We talked longer than what most would deem too long for waitstaff lol. But just having a great conversation with her and the hospitality you get in here is really beautiful. You can definitely feel the Italian vibe dim lighting atmosphere. Perfect for a date night too. 😉
Absolutely outstanding experience at UOVO Santa Monica! They bring fresh pasta directly from Italy every single day — and you can truly taste the difference! The atmosphere is both warm and cool, blending an elegant yet relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay longer. I ordered the truffle pasta with fungi on the side, and the moment I walked in, that mesmerizing truffle aroma filled the air — pure heaven. Every bite was perfection! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the entire dining experience smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this spot to anyone who appreciates authentic Italian cuisine and exceptional hospitality. 🇮🇹🍝✨
This is a best pasta we have ever eaten. My partner and I decided to try this after I saw a clip from a podcast or something speaking on how they make the pasta. We were going to be in Santa Monica the next day anyway and checked it out and boy do we not regret it. Matter of fact as Im typing this my partner is eating at another location with his cousin because he wanted her to try it. We just went last week! lol. It was so good, I dont even know how to describe it. I have never tasted pasta like this. I ordered the Crema something and he had the Ragu. Just so good. This is a small place so it felt intimate. The ambiance was great as they were playing good music and completely different music in bathroom areas. The server was very nice and helpful. Food came out in a timely manner. Salad we had was good as well. If this is what pasta tastes like in Italy I need to go. I cant wait to go back.
This is hands down the best pasta I’ve ever had. Yes it’s expensive, but really, you need to try this place; come for lunch if you have to. Everything is scratch made behind the bar in front of you from super high end ingredients. It’s insane that a restaurant this high end can be so accessible. I highly recommend the tasting menu.
I don't understand how the food looks so simple but It's the most flavorful pasta my wife and I have ever eaten! We live in AZ but go to Santa Monica every year and NEVER miss going to this restaurant. In fact, we arrange our stay in LA just so we can go here! The service is great, clean and just overall an outstanding experience every time we visit.
Just had the most lovely experience at this restaurant. We had one last meal in Santa Monica before heading home and fresh pasta was too enticing to pass up. I'm so glad we found this place. The pasta was so delicious and we were able to try a lot of different ones with the Regional Tasting Menu, highly recommend!
We got out here for a early dinner which we were able to Get seated quickly. Everything was made right in front of you which is really cool. I had the amatriciana, which had the right amount of spice. And really enjoyed it. I know it's very American of me but I was the portions were just a little bigger, I feel like when your doing pasta you should get a hardy serving. But that's up to you to decide! I liked everything I had. You should check it out, it's worth going at least once. Not sure if we would go back, but that would be totally based on the serving size.
|Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) Environment ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ The space is stylish but very dim—so dark that it was hard to read the menu. There was also no phone signal inside, and I had to step outside just to send messages, which was inconvenient. Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ • Truffle Pasta ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Very fragrant and well made, but a bit too plain for my taste. I didn’t expect it to come as just noodles and sauce, so I added mushrooms to bring in more depth and flavor. • Tartar ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Fresh and clean. Nothing surprising, but solid and enjoyable. • Tiramisu ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent. Very moist and well balanced—easily the highlight of the meal.
Italian spot with imported ingredients directly from Italy and open concept kitchen. Stopped by here for a late lunch with my boyfriend. Since it was an off time, we were able to get seated immediately. We ordered the lasagna and bolognese, and both were super tasty. Credit cards accepted. No tipping but there’s a 16% mandatory fee. The restrooms are shared with HiHo next door. Indoor counter and table seating available, as well as a few outdoor table seating. Garage parking across the street is free for the first 90 minutes.
Nice location, atmosphere, outside tables have a great vibe, and inside is more modern. Also if you like to see the kitchen vibe, that’s your seat. You can watch the chef working as you eat. The service was great, very kind and quick. They have some three options in the menu where you get an appetizer, three pastas and dessert. We ordered the regional and it was a very good option. Their tiramisu is very good and perfect size. The food was very good but we missed some Italian traditional things like a courtesy bread with olive oil in the entrance or maybe with the beef tartare. Also they didn’t offered extra cheese (parmigiano) with the pasta. Despite that, everything was good.
Their tasting menu is super affordable. Even though I’m not a fan of truffle, their truffle pasta was super good. Cacio Pepe was also good just not as much as the truffle pasta. I wouldn’t recommend the Crudo in the Pomodoro was just tomato spaghetti you would see elsewhere. The lasagna was green, creative, and tasty but very small and portion. I would not recommend the carbonara.
My husband and I visited Uovo in Santa Monica after hearing many great things about their pasta. We had recently traveled to Italy and were missing the pasta we had there, so we were excited to try this place based on recommendations. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The restaurant itself was extremely dark to the point that we could barely read the menu. The decor itself was fine, but the lighting made it unnecessarily difficult. We ordered yellowtail crudo, cacio e pepe, vongole, a side of mushrooms, and a Mexican Coke. Within about 20 seconds of ordering the Mexican Coke, a staff member (I couldn’t tell if she was the waitress or a manager) walked toward us with a Diet Coke, which immediately gave the impression that she had not been paying attention. The restaurant only had about eight customers total, including us, and there appeared to be around seven staff members working, so it was confusing to see so much delay and disorganization. When we ordered, she asked whether we wanted the vongole first and the cacio e pepe later. We specifically said we wanted all dishes served together because we enjoy tasting multiple dishes at the same time. She said okay and took the order. However, that did not happen. The vongole came out first after a long wait. The cacio e pepe had not even started yet and was not served until after we had already finished the vongole. We also asked about our side of mushrooms, and she said it would be “right up.” While sitting there, we could hear the kitchen staff in Spanish discussing that they needed to make the mushrooms. They probably assumed we would not understand, but both of us speak Spanish and Italian. The mushrooms finally arrived after we had already finished the pasta, which defeated the purpose of ordering it as a side to eat with the meal. We politely declined it because we did not want to eat the dish by itself. At this point, things became even more uncomfortable. When I reminded her that we had specifically requested everything to come out together, she began lecturing us about how vongole should be served first for taste reasons, and that cacio e pepe pairs better with broccolini than mushrooms because mushrooms are salty. This explanation would have been fine if it had been offered when we were placing the order, but it was not. Instead, it came only after the mistake had already happened. Even then, we had chosen what we wanted intentionally. I actually have a pasta-making certificate from Italy, so the explanation felt unnecessary and somewhat condescending. She then insisted multiple times that we take the mushrooms to go even though we explained that we were planning to walk around and did not want to carry food we had not eaten. After several minutes of uncomfortable insistence, I finally just agreed to take it so we could leave. As we were getting up and gathering our belongings, two additional kitchen staff approached us and repeatedly asked if everything was alright—four or five times—in a way that felt more confrontational than concerned. At that point we were simply trying to leave, but the repeated questioning made the situation feel even more awkward. Overall, the service felt disorganized, inattentive, and strangely defensive. This was particularly disappointing because a friend had specifically recommended Uovo to us, and we chose it over going to Eataly that evening. In hindsight, I regret that decision. We came hoping for a comforting pasta experience reminiscent of Italy, but unfortunately left feeling frustrated and uncomfortable.
The food tasted good, but the portions were ridiculously small. I’m not a big eater at all, yet I left still hungry. It was actually the first time in my life that after finishing my meal, the waiter asked if I wanted to order another pasta! which says a lot about the portion size. For what you get, the prices are extremely high. I also didn’t enjoy the ambience. The restaurant is so dark that we literally had to use our phone flashlights just to read the menu. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion.
