Water Grill Santa Monica seriously impressed me. I went in thinking seafood, but ended up ordering the Wagyu ribeye cap from Snake River Farms and it was outstanding. Easily the most flavorful steak I’ve had in Southern California. Super juicy, rich, and packed with flavor without feeling heavy. You can really taste the quality of the meat. The only other place I’ve ever had this cut was at Ocean 48, where it was off menu. They had a slightly better char on it there, but that’s honestly the only thing missing here. The meat itself at Water Grill is top tier and absolutely worth ordering. The atmosphere is great. Upscale but comfortable, not stiff or over the top. I also had the spicy margarita and it was really good, well balanced and not overly sweet. If you think Water Grill is only about seafood, don’t make that mistake. The steak alone is reason enough to come back.
We were immediately greeted by kind waitstaff outside, and quickly seated! The restaurant encompassed a chic, rustic, and modern vibe overlooking the ocean. Sit by the windows for a nice pleasant ocean breeze! Waitstaff were extremely kind and accommodating, making the experience extremely enjoyable! Every meal comes with complimentary bread, which was warm and soft to the touch. It was a bit too salty for my liking, but was otherwise delicious! I ordered the lobster roll, which had the perfect texture and taste. The food was delicious, the portions were just the right size, and I really enjoyed my meal! I'll definitely be returning in the future!
We ordered the Cioppino. One piece of the crab didn’t seem very fresh, but the server and manager handled the situation very professionally and courteously. We truly appreciated their prompt response and excellent service. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys seafood. It’s definitely worth trying.
Consistently Excellent Service and Atmosphere "This spot has a fantastic atmosphere and the food is top-tier. The beet salad, oysters, and organic farm chicken were all standouts. It was the perfect setting for a successful business lunch. We were so impressed with the warm, attentive service that we returned with the whole family. Our server, Dimitri, was exceptional once again—it was a pleasure having him take care of us both times. A consistently pleasant experience for both business and family."
Love this place! I come here all the time and we usually sit at the bar. The bartenders are awesome—Mary is my favorite, she’s always so kind and welcoming. I always order the cheeseburger with a Long Island Iced Tea, and it never disappoints. Great service, great food, and great drinks. Everything is delicious. Highly recommend!
Walk in solo diner and have been treated like a queen. Impeccable service, grateful to Kevin the manager and the team that have been very attentive to me, and the food 10/10. the octopus is a stunning dish!

Water Grill is the right place in Santa Monica. We made reservation at 5pm on 12/27 so we can have family gathering. The sunset view was remarkable. The raw Oysters were fresh and delicious. We also ordered a whole grilled fish and Wagyu filet mignon. The fish were very good. It was deboned and charcoal grilled. However. the steak was overly cooked. We told our server and he brought manager come to our table. Manager Kevin immediately apologized to us about kitchen’s mistakes. He exchanged another order with fresh side dish and even bought us additional wine to go with the food. It made us feel very warm and special. We thank Keven for his effort of turning the crisis into opportunities. At the end, everyone enjoyed their meal and it was truly a memorable dinning experience for our family at Water Grill.
The place itself is lovely, the decoration great and the food delicious. The service needs a little bit of work though. The staff was friendly and helpful but forgot some things we ordered, weather that was because of a misunderstanding, I don't know but could have been avoided by simply repeating the order to us.
Water Grill made everything so easy from the start — booking a reservation was simple, and once we arrived, the service was exceptional. Our server was incredibly friendly and welcoming. She offered great suggestions since I don’t come here often, and every recommendation was spot on. We ordered the clams, veggie roll, octopus, and clam chowder — all delicious. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary, and the staff went above and beyond to make it special. Multiple team members acknowledged our celebration, and they even surprised us with a dessert. It was such a thoughtful touch. The experience couldn’t have been more perfect. We left feeling genuinely taken care of, and we’ll definitely be back.
Great food, service is decent, everything is fresh with vibrant flavors . I think the server just has a bad day but overall still really good experience.
Kirsten was incredible! She made our whole experience at water Grill so much better. She’s attentive, friendly, and really on top of everything. You can tell she cares about giving great service, and she made us feel super welcome the entire time. Honestly, she’s one of the best!!! give this woman a raise!
Always love the water grill whether it’s in Vegas or in Santa Monica. Seafood always fresh, preparation always perfect and service throrughly attentive. I did jumbo crab claws, oysters, grilled octopus and paired with a Moscow mule. What needed improvement? Absolutely nothing. Will be back over and over again

Great Restaurant! We really enjoyed the ambiance of Water Grill. Our table was inside yet we were able to watch the sunset. The black cod was perfectly cooked with great flavor and the Dungeness crab was wonderful. Definitely would go back and try other menu items. Everything looked amazing.
My hunny and I went to Water Grill to celebrate our anniversary and we had such a wonderful dining experience. We were seated with a beautiful sunset view. Our server was very knowledgeable and recommended great dishes to try. The service was outstanding and the food was amazing. CHEF'S KISS!
The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive. The interior was beautifully designed — stylish and full of character, with thoughtful details throughout. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, and everything came together for a really enjoyable experience. I’d definitely come back.

As soon as I walked into the Water Grill, I knew it was going to be good. They have the same exact bar seats as Meat on Ocean, so I assumed it was the same owner, and it is. We ordered takeout for dinner, the sushi rolls were very good, and the lobster roll was excellent. The restaurant, like Meat on Ocean, is stunningly beautiful. We couldn't recommend either establishment highly enough!

Came here for a nice lunch while my mom was visiting town. The location and views are excellent, but the outside seating wasn’t great. I sat near the bushes on the sidewalk and it was full of flies. The table was leaning with sun in my eyes. It was not pleasant, especially for a $400 lunch for four people. For some reason, they couldn’t move us inside after we ordered the food so we settled for the back of the patio, which was better. The server was great. The food was pretty good. I didn’t take a photo of the clams, but that was outstanding with the garlic sauce. Everything else was 4/5 nothing special. The halibut was ok but the sauce to it was delicious. My sisters filet was nuked on the outside and tough, not good. I would actually go back for the clams and that sauce with the bread and I don’t even like clams that much. Also, the bread was fresh and phenomenal so I should’ve probably tried the lobster roll anyways sit inside and order the right thing it’s a beautiful restaurant, I need to give it another try.
Water Grill in Santa Monica is simply the best. The seafood is incredibly fresh and top-quality, and the raw bar is a must-try. Paired with a beautiful ocean view and excellent service, it's a truly fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend.
Food was amazing and the staff was great at attending to my wife’s onion allergy. We had the halibut cheeks, I had the clam chowder. For entrees we had the salmon and I went with the swordfish. The food was cooked so well, such a refresher after having overcooked food around the corner at Pacific Catch the night before. Summary: Pretty disappointed given the praise Water Grill has received online. Food quality and flavours are good, but on the blander side. Don’t expect strong or interesting notes. Highlights: The free bread at the start. Very crispy bite in, and fluffy warm dough. Set the expectations pretty high for the rest of the meal. Good: The sea bass was nice, soft, and buttery. And that pretty much sums it up, just imagine a buttery fish and you that’s the flavour you get. Not worth its price point. The octopus leg appetiser. Nice few bites of food, but again, no particular flavour. It’s a grilled octopus. Mexican Shrimp was nice and refreshing. Disappointing: $100+ for a steak. Wasn’t even ‘melt in your mouth’. I would avoid, stick with the seafood. Good place to go to enjoy the sun if weather is good.
