Opinions de Chez Matant Santo Domingo
I stopped in here with a group of 4 on Saturday for brunch, our group had a reservation and was seated promptly. The server came to our table not to long after we were seated and took our drink orders. We ordered beers, coffees and Bloody Marys ,which were the star of the show. As for food we ordered the chicken Caesar sandwhich, quiche, chicken liver pate, gigante beans, pancakes and chips with aioli. The star of the show was the chicken liver pate, it had a great rich savory flavor with a hint of sweetness and was served on a nice soft piece of sourdough. The Scottie Pippen of the food order had to be the pancakes, they were savory and sweet with a hint of lemon. The only weak link of the bunch was the under seasoned gignate beans, which had an off day. Would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a brunch spot in WB or Greenpoint.
Had a fantastic brunch here with my friend today. It's a casual yet polished, cozy restaurant. It was busy, but not too loud. We had delicious cappuccinos, and split the pancakes, quiche and a salad. The quiche was divine-- layers of egg, cheese, and potato with truffle throughout. The truffle wasn't overpowering and the combination was great, especially with the fresh simple salad. The pancakes were fantastic as well. Simple, fluffy and flavorful with amazing, crisp edges. I wish I could make them like this! We each left, paying less than 40$, which felt like a steal in NY. We even checked the bill to make sure it was all there! Can't wait to come back!
Been here for both brunch and dinner. Love the elevated takes on simple, European-style dishes. My pork shoulder this evening came out purple and impossible to cut. The team happily refired it, delivering a dreamingly tender cut with a deep pink blush. Beautiful piece of meat in the end, and they even took it off our check. Thanks for being on top of it. Duck was beautiful too. Can't wait to come back for another neighborhood meal.
I love Chez Ma Tante. It's my favorite restaurant in Greenpoint. The vibe is very casual, cozy, and romantic. I love coming here for a date night. The dim lights and the restaurant's aesthetic are very chic and quaint. The food doesn't disappoint. We got the chicken pate for an appetizer, which didn’t look appetizing, but it was pretty good. We also got the fries, which were hot and crispy. The menu is seasonal, but the pork shoulder must be their signature dish since I got the same thing years ago, which is my go-to meal here. My boyfriend got the duck. They were okay, kind of hard to chew, a bit tough, even though the flavor is there. We didn’t have enough room for dessert, but the last time I was here, I tried their olive chocolate cake. I 100% recommend it. For drinks, I would choose their wine options. I’m not a big fan of their cocktails.
Finally got here for one of their famous brunches and completely lived up to the hype. The food was outstanding, the sausage gravy and biscuits was pepper, creamy delicious with every bite. Honestly every plate that arrived on every table looked magazine quality. The service and atmosphere were perfect for a group or table for two. Looking forward to coming back again and again
I wasn’t going to give 5 stars because that egg sando was mid. But that anchovie laced Caesar salad and those crispy edges on those pancakes AND the amazing service all made it worth it! 30 minute wait for Sunday brunch which turned out to be 20 minutes or so, followed by the perfect outdoor seating was clutch. Shouts to the hostess with the dope vintage cowboy boats too! We’ll be back for that pork shoulder for dinner. Go here!
What a pleasant brunch experience! Pancakes 10/10, of course. The quintessential pancake you think of when you’re craving a hot cake! Buttery and crispy, oh so good. The fries? Unbelievable. With the RIGHT amount of aioli on the side (lots). The sleeper hit? The cantaloupe and prosciutto- WOW. Easily the freshest, juiciest, most perfectly sweet cantaloupe I’ve ever had paired with high quality prosciutto, a salty sweet match made in heaven. Run, don’t walk!
Good day all, it is getting slightly easier to snag a table at Chez, although normally I have to book a week or two in advance. I was fortunate to make a reservation only two days prior. The staff here are cordial, respectful and very convivial. Friendly to a fault. They balance the right amount of attentiveness and when to lay back. I am always (and still surprised) at how delicious the pancakes are. The hummus plate is a MUST! I’ve had the quiche previously (last year). A few of the breakfast sandwiches. I’ve been saving (hopefully) the best for last…the biscuits and gravy. Every time I see it on a menu my fingers are 🤞 crossed!! Hoping they meet my expectations!!! When I am asked by my friends, family and co-workers where they should try for brunch? In my top three, Chez is there. I’m not going to let my other gatekeeps be known here, suffice to say I always want to be a Chez, but if I can’t grab a resy here, I’ll opt for the other two. For everyone else who wants to try Chez, get your 100 Yard Dash shoes on! On Your Mark…🏃🏻🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️
Tucked away in Brooklyn, this small and diverse gem of a restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming — we felt right at home the moment we walked in. Thanks to the rainy day, we lucked out with three seats at the bar without any wait — a true blessing in NYC! We flew in for a long weekend, and this spot was at the top of our list, largely due to the buzz surrounding Chef Oscar Paz and his now-legendary pancakes and pig face recipe. Let me just say — it absolutely did not disappoint. The pancakes transported me straight back to my childhood — warm memories of my grandmother’s kitchen came rushing back with every bite. I couldn’t help but smile. The pancakes were cooked to perfection with a welcoming hint of lemon zest. The pig face Exquisite and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. Chef Oscar deserves a standing ovation for these dishes alone. We also tried the homemade biscuit, which made a jar of jam taste like a treasured family secret. Between the food, service, and pricing — everything was top tier. Whether you’re a visitor or a Brooklyn local, do your palate a favor and make Chez Ma Tante a priority, You’ll walk away planning your return.
Sometimes I still dream about the pancakes here - just the right balance of soft fluffiness to golden crispiness, and lightly soaked in syrup and butter! Strong contender for best pancakes I’ve had in New York! Accompanying dishes are new American style with focus on ingredients. Gets busy during weekend brunch so reservations are best!
I really enjoyed this place a lot. The screw driver with tangerine juice was awesome and strong. The waiter was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The country pate looked kind of like spam but tasted magical. The chips (French fries) and aioli was outstanding reminded me of the ones at 4 Charles or Au Cheval. The Shakshuka egg and tomatoes was fire too. The sausage biscuit in the gravy was really good. The star of the show however was the pancakes they were perfect. Crispy edges but fluffy and the perfect amount of syrup. The cutlet that was with the Cesar salad was awesome too. I definitely would return.
this has been one of my favorite restaurants over the years. however I visited recently and found that I could no longer have the same full experience here as a Celiac/gluten-allergy person because of wheat cross contamination in the shared fryer (this is sadly a new development after the past few years of having a gluten-free fryer). basically I was only able to order a skate fish dish (which was super delicious) and there was zero options for carbs… so I had to be keto unfortunately and didn’t really feel full after the meal. hoping they can bring back the gluten free fryer and therefore my ability to eat their fries which I was previously obsessed with!
We came here for weekend brunch with a reservation and had a great experience. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly with little wait between dishes. The egg sandwich and the gigante beans with mushroom ragu were both solid, and the pancakes stood out. They were crispy on the outside, fluffy yet crumbly inside. They were a touch heavy on the butter, but still enjoyable. Overall, a satisfying brunch spot with efficient service and well-executed dishes.
I recently dined here solo. Service was good, they checked on me a few times though alone. The food wasn’t timed right however, my sandwich came out right away but I waited about 15 min for my pancake to come out and I wanted to eat them together but I did not get to do that. The pancake was nice and crispy and buttery. I tasted a nutty or maybe fruity note to them, perhaps from the butter toasting during the cooking process. The egg sandwich with bacon was quite good and the caramelized onions made it quite rich. I’d go back to try the biscuit. I did not appreciate the lack of non alcoholic drink options, I’d have liked more juices or a few mocktails. Also heads up the tip percentages are based on price after tax and the suggested options are 20, 25, and 30 :(
I’m extremely disappointed to be writing this. From the moment we entered Chez Ma Tante, the tone was off. We were told there would be a one-hour wait, despite clearly open seats at tables and at the bar. We were not asked for our name or number for the waitlist we had to initiate that ourselves. About 30 minutes later, we were offered seats at the bar. The bartender’s demeanor toward us was cold and dismissive. When we asked about certain drinks, we were told “no” without explanation or alternative suggestions. When we asked what was available, he rolled his eyes. One of my friends ordered a burger that took over 30 minutes and arrived improperly cooked. When we asked to have it removed from the bill, the server (wearing a striped shirt with a braid down her back) rolled her eyes and took the plate to the kitchen. She appeared to complain about us to another staff member while gesturing in our direction. The replacement fries were cold and the aioli tasted off also inedible. Throughout this time, my martini glass sat empty. I was never offered another drink. Meanwhile, the patrons seated next to us were checked on repeatedly, and the tone toward them was noticeably lighter and more attentive. When we asked for the bill so we could leave, the dismissive behavior continued. As we exited, staff were whispering and staring at us. The difference in how we were treated compared to others around us was striking and uncomfortable. We came in excited to try this restaurant and left feeling unwelcome. I sincerely hope management takes a serious look at staff training and accountability.
We all agreed that the pancakes were good for first bite, but afterwards it was just too heavy and oily from the butter. Maybe some people love it, but it’s too much for me 😮💨 I did like the fries though..but overall the experience was quite hectic and we felt we were somewhat being rushed.
I’m so disappointed with this place 😔😭 Normally, I’m a very easy person to please. I’m not the type of person who writes bad reviews at all, but in this case, I’d like to share my experience. Because I hate spend money with bad food. After waiting 30 minutes, we finally got a table, excited to try the famous pancakes and a few other things. Besides the pancakes, we ordered bacon, eggs, and a quiche. The pancakes were okay and worth trying, but they were missing something to complement them — like jelly or some fresh fruit — because they only came with butter and syrup, nothing new or extraordinary. The eggs and bacon were extremely oily, and I couldn’t eat everything. I only ate the eggs because I was very hungry and didn’t want to look for another place to eat. I really wanted to come here and give a good review, but unfortunately, that was not my experience.
