The people were friendly and helpful and the food was awesome!
Delicious food and amazing service! We’re from NYC but we frequently visit Saranac Lake and we visit Red Fox every time we’re up there. The menu has lots of options and everything we’ve tried has been amazing. The drinks are mixed perfectly and there’s a great range for beer and wine to choose from. Not to mention that the staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend you visit.
Exceeded expectations. Everything down to the bread was great (per my family). I have a minor GF allergy and they flagged things that I wouldn’t have known would have gluten (like the au jus). Great food and huge portions. Service was attentive and friendly. Would def recommend.
Took our daughter to dinner to celebrate her getting her GN. Dinner was excellent. Was disappointed rack of lamb is no longer on the menu, but the duck was fantastic. Our daughter said the Linguini Red Fox was delicious. Will order that next time. Huh
I cannot say enough good things. Staff was great, prime rib was awesome. Tiramisu was made there and was so freaking yummy. Go .. it is totally worth it.
Our favorite place to take family and friends. The food is always excellent. The staff and owners always make you feel like a special guest. Our favorite is their shrimp primavera in a creamy garlic sauce. The hot baked bread and all their desserts are so good too!
Best resteraunt ever.Awesome delicious food prepared professionally. Wait staff on top of their game . I was staying in Lake Placid and well worth the drive from anywhere to eat here. I came back the next night. Even greeted and thanked by the owner who keeps the place immaculately clean. Seafood, steaks,Prime Rib,lamb chops,Duck . Hot crusty bread served delicious salad. Fresh cut flowers everywhere. Thank-you
We went to Saranac Lake for a birthday get away for my grandson. Based on reviews, we picked the Red Fox Restaurant for dinner. What a wonderful place! There were 6 of us including two picky children. There was something for everyone on the menu. The food was delicious. I got the steak sandwich and it was huge! My son-in-law got prime rib which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My daughter got chicken parmesan which she loved. The service was wonderful. Even the bread was great. At the end of the delicious meal the hostess approached and said she heard it was someone's birthday. Our server must have overheard our conversations. They wanted to do something for the 6 yo birthday boy. I explained it wasn't necessarily, we had a cake at home. She asked if they could just bring something small. We said OK. They bought a beautiful chocolate mouse pie slice with whipped cream and candles. Everyone sang including all the other diners . My grandson was thrilled. Thank you for going above & beyond for a wonderful night!!!
The Red Fox or the "Fox" as it's known, is a quality restaurant where anyone can get an outstanding meal and receive quality service while enjoying a nice atmosphere. The servers and service are excellent, the menu is superb. It will be a lovely experience! Please remember that this type of ombionce may not be the least expensive in town.
Have driven by countless times over the years finally stopped in on Saturday with no reservations and they were able to seat a party of two no problem. Service was great with plenty of choices on the menu. Both enjoyed our meals. Would return and recommend.
No matter how many times we go, reservation or not we leave happy and full. Everything is cooked to perfection and delicious. So thankful to have this beautiful restaurant here in Saranac Lake!!
Just had a dinner party at the Red Fox Restaurant. I made reservations and asked for a semi-private room and the staff at the Red Fox was very accommodating. The food was excellent. Everyone ordered various selections from the well appointed menu and they all, bar none, enjoyed their meals immensely. There were NO complaints. I personally had the duck a la L'orange. It was excellent! I always order it with the sauce on the side and ask that they crisp the skin. Sensational! This restaurant is the best choice in Saranac Lake for food and excellent service and one of the best in the region.
We came here on the recommendation of a random guy on our flight who said he summers in Saranac. I'm so glad I sat next to him! This place is an absolute gem. Great ambiance, staff is attentive, drinks are strong and the food is ridiculous. The portions are huge and everything we ate was fantastic. The website talks about how good their red sauce is and they aren't lying! Don't miss this amazing place!
When in the Saranac lake area, consider the Red Fox your go to place. This restaurant is above the standard for the area.A very clean and pleasing to the eye establishment. Service is always professional and your meal is presented with a European feel. Meal portions are of excellent quantity, but try to leave room for dessert. Prepare yourself for a quaint, charming experience that is often hard to find.
Stopped here after a day of leaf peeping around Lake Placid. Simply amazing. No reservations (but I’d recommend making them) and squeaked into a seat from a no-show at 4:30. The service was wonderful, the decor attractive, the music, soft and pleasant. But the food was out of this world (prime rib, chicken piccata). We will 100% come here again when back in the area.
This place was such a good dining experience on a rainy day in the Adirondacks. All the trendier place we're full so we stumbled upon the Red Fox, and I our delight. It reminded us of supper clubs of the past, with great service by professional wait staff and such good food. Had veal and chicken piccata and lasagna. All beautifully presented band delicious.
Food was amazing, the waiter was extremely accommodating and they were all very kid friendly making sure to serve the little ones first. Always had fresh bread and on the table, and soup ,salad and entrees were excellent .Waiter even took the time to take our picture at the end of our meal for us. We will definitely be going back Thank you again for an amazing meal and enjoyable evening. Shelley Bombard
Don’t look for nouvelle cousine or artisan concoctions here. This is old line Saranac Lake. Noah Trudeau could walk in and recognize the place. The food is hearty and portions for a lumberjack. Prime rib and onion soup are its stock-in-trade but seafood items done with the same care. Leave room for lemon cake; it’s a keeper. Also wine by the glass reasonably priced, tasty, and large. The vibe is friendly. You’re as likely to sit next to a road crew on payday or a golden aged great camp owner. Red Fox is solid, not stodgy and the white table cloths are changed after every sitting
I sat at the bar and had a wonderful dinner I'm from out of town and I googled the place and it was a very good decision Sapphire my bartender took great care of me
Wonderful dinner and experience. We were a party of 14 yet we all still felt like we were each given attention. Everyone loved their meal. One person said it would be nice if they had more vegetarian options. On a very positive note, eggplant parmesan was not on the menu, but they made it for 2 guests. Dinner was not cheap but definitely worth it for special occasions.
My Prime Rib was amazing. My Mom really enjoyed her meal. My salad and Rice Pilaf were both really nice as well. Our waitress and the bus girl did an excellent job! It is an expensive place to eat but totally worth it. Be prepared to spend money and you will really enjoy it.
Wow what a great meal. Yes it is a bit pricey. The bill can add up quickly but I can assure you that it is worth every penny. I will speak to my meal only. What a great broiled Salmon. It came with a salad and I added the grilled mixed veggies. All delicious. Everybody at the table felt the same about there meal. Get over the and enjoy
5 years ago, my husband and I, together with our friends, stumbled upon the the Red Fox Restaurant while on our way back from an afternoon boat ride in Saranac. Despite our attire, they warmly welcomed us. My husband, being Italian, said that the true test of a good restaurant is their marinara sauce. Ed, the owner and our server, brought him a cup of their marinara sauce and some bread. That sealed the deal!! From that time, we have been coming back regularly when ever we are in Lake Placid. I always get their lamb chops which is always cooked and seasoned perfectly! Their broiled scallops are amazing AND, their lasagna is just luscious! They are very consistent with their good food, and last but not the least, such friendly and warm owners! Thank you for always making our dining experience unforgettable!
The Red Fox is a consistently positive dining experience. The employees are all stellar, friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks are made well and the food is always delicious. I love the atmosphere with the richly painted rooms, comfortable seating, plenty of space between tables, a beautiful yard and just the right amount of fox decor. This is a perfect location for a party of 2, 4 or 20!
Very busy but our server was doing his best. Food was spectacular. Was a little noisy, but it was a busy father's day dinner. Only negative comment is that we paid our $86 dollar bill with a credit card and were surprised by a service charge added to our bill. Odd? Or is it me?
We make it a point to visit here every summer when we are in town. Evan was our server this most recent time. He was excellent from start to finish. The decor is charming & cozy, & you dress up or come in casual. My husband got the lasagna which he loves & tried the steak for the first time. Everything we had from the bread, apps, salad, entrees & cheesecake was fanatic. Can't wait to come back next year!
Excellent atmosphere, service, and food. We had the lasagna, bread and salad. Good size portion and very tasty. We will definitely go back. Highly recommend.
To say our experience here was excellent is an understatement. The food was amazing.and the service excellent. Our group of 12 had rack of lamb; prime rib, shrimp scampi, scallops, veal all cooked perfectly We will never miss a dinner at Red Fox again when visiting Saranac/Lake Placid.
It is very nice place to have a meal. The waitresses was very nice and professional. I had the veal Parmesan it was delicious. I would suggest to make a reservation for your meal. The decorations are beautiful paintings. With beautiful Tiffany lights.
This is a restaurant we have been visiting for over 30 years and we returned last weekend for the first time since the fire in 2003. The manager was very gracious and appreciative for our business during the pandemic. The food and prices were very good. The waitress was good and very nice. The gardens are beautiful and everything clean and well kept. Wish we lived closer. We will return when the fireplaces are once roaring again!
Everything we ordered was delicious. I had steak & scampi, my mom had eggplant parmesean ‐ both were awesome. House salads had the best Bleu cheese dressing I've ever had. Bread was warm & crunchy. Desserts were really yummy! Service was great. The Red Fox rocks!!
My wife and I have had an absolutely one of best meals ever. From the atmosphere with old world decor with an inviting air to the fresh flowers from their own garden is amazing The service is top notch with nothing less than awesome. Now the food, unbelievable. Hot bread , large shrimp Cooke perfect. soup made daily. The lamb was perfect , the Chicken Marsala amazing. A must for anyone Thanks for the wonderful experience Diane and Joe Tavano
The best dinner I've had in the Adirondacks. Juicy, and really tasty prime rib. My wife treated herself to huge sea scallops. Egg drop soup was perfection. Even the garden salad was good. Service - first rate. Owner graciously checks each table. Too bad the Red Fox isn't in West Chester.
A few weeks ago, we visited Lake Placid for the fourth time in five years. A local told us about this restaurant, and said it was a "do not miss" for a great steak dinner. It was all that, and more! No wait time, clean facilities, relaxed atmosphere. We had caprese salad and calamari for appetizers, steak entrees for all, plus two desserts. Impeccable taste, homemade quality! We will definitely make this a staple of our future great Lake Placid area excursions.
My neighbor suggested this restaurant. We had dinner on a Sunday evening and sat outside. Gorgeous setting with flowers all around. Our server Edvin & I believe the owner was fantastic. He was very pleasant. R food was fantastic and very reasonable. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday. I would highly recommend this place. We will be back again when we visit Lake Placid again! Thank u Edvin! Such a pleasure to meet u!! The broiled salmon was the best I have ever gotten in any restaurant. A very generous portion!
I ordered a prime rib and it was marvelous. Best steak I have in 2025
Amazing experience. Went to dinner here tonight with family that we are visiting and everyone stated how amazing their food was. Steak,Scallops and Duck were all delicious and cooked to perfection! Service was above and beyond, Edvin was our server and he was absolutely impeccable. And to top the night off we had some of the best homemade Tiramisu I have tasted.. This restaurant is a must visit if you are in town and the prices are so reasonable as each meal comes with soup or salad potato etc. Had a bottle of wine here that would have cost $20-$30 more at other restaurants.. Edvin and Momma thank you for such a memorable night. I’d give you “10” stars if I could.
Excellent service, excellent prime rib, excellent jumbo, cooked-perfectly sea scallops. Soup, salad, bread tasted so fresh. They have their own huge area gardens in the back of the restaurant. Nice atmosphere...not stuffy at all, but quiet and just formal enough with white pressed tablecloths and napkins and candles on each table to make you feel like you are truly having a special dining experience. Full bar, full restaurant, mature crowd, no children at all in the restaurant tonight.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, always served perfectly! This was our second trip, and it was worth every penny. Best part, it's a quick easy ride from Lake Placid N.Y. Village. (Saranac Ave rt 86) Strait shot, for 12-15 min. No major turns, or side roads to turn or get lost. About 3 min from Saranac Lake, Riverside Park. Venture a bit, and give it a try! 👍
We enjoyed our entire meal we had here! Everything was spot on and the service was quick and attentive. My filet was cooked a perfect medium rare and the scallops were seared to perfection. My husband got the seafood special and practically licked his plate clean. 10/10 would recommend
This restaurant strikes the perfect balance between fine dining and home cooking. The staff are truly some of the kindest, warmest, and most personable people you’ll ever meet. The food is outstanding. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, definitely worth a visit. 100% will return every time visiting Lake Placid (that is where we were staying).
This restaurant is very traditional and charming. It’s very spacious inside and out with lots of parking. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very clean and classy. Every dish that we ordered was delicious and all the ingredients were fresh and made at the restaurant. The cocktails were amazing and the desserts were made with perfection. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The best restaurant with the best tasting food in Saranac Lake & Lake Placid. I highly recommend this restaurant and trust me you will not regret coming here.
The food is delicious and this is one of the few nicer restaurants in the area. The interior is a little dated, but the service is great. Try the prime rib sandwich. It's amazing! It's a giant piece of prime rib on a huge slab of very buttery garlic bread. The flavor is fantastic! One thing to note, if you park in front and use the front entrance there are stairs up to the restaurant. However, the side parking lot leads to a walkway without steps at the rear of the restaurant.
My wife and I had a great experience dining at this restaurant. The food and service were excellent (dinners are made to order). Our server (Karen) was kind, knowledgeable, and very professional. The restaurant was quaint, clean, and nicely decorated. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Went for dinner tonight, called last minute and got right in. We are locals and this is one of our favorite spots. Sarah was our server and she was spectacular! 4 adults and 4 toddlers. she was welcoming, warm and so sweet to all the kids. The cocktails were spectacular! (Definitely try the Cloud 9) 🤤 food was fantastic! We never felt rushed, and even with the toddlers being toddlers, we were treated as if we were first class. As always spectacular food and service!
First time here and can't say enough good things about it. Food and service were great. We went for steaks - house recommended prime rib and the 8oz filet. Both were cooked as ordered and were fantastic. Our waitress was very nice and checked in often if we needed anything. Place has a large parking lot and many tables and can accommodate large groups. If you are looking for a solid steak and seafood place I highly recommend giving this one a try.
While in the ADKS for a solo birthday getaway, I decided to check out Red Fox Restaurant, and ordered takeout. The young man who took my order was so friendly and professional. Entering the restaurant to pick up my order, I was impressed-the place is just beautiful! It was tastefully decorated for Christmas, the centerpiece being a magnificent tree. I could have gazed at that tree for hours! Despite being a rather large space, there was such an air of coziness. The staff were terrific-everyone was so friendly! Now, what about the food? Well, I’m not giving the restaurant 5 stars just because everyone was so fantastic and the place so beautiful. The food was also fantastic. As in DELICIOUS. The shrimp scampi was the best I’ve ever had-I practically drank the butter sauce, ha! I also ordered the French onion soup-it was robust and flavorful, the way this soup should be. I loved it. The baked potato was cooked to perfection. Even the bread was scrumptious. The staff also tucked a lovely surprise in the takeout bag for me-who does that? That was ridiculously sweet of them!! Speaking of sweet-the lemon cream cake was sooooo good. This was the best birthday meal I’ve had in a long, long time. Thank you to everyone for making me feel so special and for the incredible food and service you provide. I highly recommend Fox Restaurant!
Delicious food ! amazing wait staff! couldn’t ask for a better experience! Highly recommend! Make sure to have the tiramisu for dessert!
Had a great birthday dinner for ten people. Waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. Food and service was exceptional. Will return. Prime Rib was the high point. Yum.
Great find! You could tell many local people were dining here. A nice date night place. Food was excellent -- we both had eggplant parm, it was amazing. Nice server, nice ambiance. Will return. Busy, but not crazy busy. Good value for price point.
We loved this place. Lots of opportunities to eat in Saranac Lake and we're glad we chose the Red Fox. We had the house special seafood pasta both the red and white versions. Both were great and it almost seemed there was too much tasty seafood. Nice atmosphere both inside and in the garden behind the restaurant. Service was attentive but not overwhelming.
Wonderful food, would recommend to anyone visiting the area. We got in when it wasn’t busy, little quiet, however it was top of the end for the area.
On the way back from paddling on Long Lake, we decided to stop at the Red Fox. We’ve been driving past it for years, but never stopped in so we gave it a go. I have to say the food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional. We started out with a beer and one of their signature cocktails, and they brought us some fresh bread and butter, which we really enjoyed after paddling all day. I got the veal Parm and my bodyguard got the fillet. The veal Parm was exceptionally well prepared paperthin and extremely tasty. I was lucky enough to try some of the fillet and it was seasoned to perfection and I really enjoyed it. We had the lemon Italian cake for dessert and my God It was the perfect way to end the meal. Sara was our server and even though she has a Canadian accent she’s local from just down the road from the Red Fox. She was supported by a very professional team that would come by and pick up the plates, but they would always say excuse me ma’am, or sir, to make us aware that they were there instead of sneaking up on us. Extremely professional operation I can’t say that enough. If you’re ever driving by, I would definitely drop in and give it a try.
The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and classically Adirondack themed. The fox chandeliers are treasures. Our waitress was very friendly and down to earth, service is formal. Delicious, crusty, warm artisan bread is served before dinner. My husband had veal parm, I had French Onion soup. The food was good, it was the atmosphere that I loved. Our table looked out on their garden and the forest. Large restaurant with plenty of seating. There’s a room for large parties.
A very classy place. Definitely dress up a little for this gem. Thursday was a bit busy but we were able to wait at the bar until a table opened up. The service was courteous and attentive. The atmosphere was warm with classy vibes. The salads were fresh, with delicious raspberry vinaigrette was amazingly delicious and highly recommended. The scallops were a melt-in-your-mouth phenomenon. The strip was cooked perfectly for both the medium and medium-rare. Then the Chicken piccata was divine. Cooked to perfection and tender enough to cut with a fork. The pièce de résistance was the molten lava cake. Divinely chocolate and warm with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream to complement it. The cheese cake was one of the best we have tasted in a long time (didn’t even need the strawberry sauce! Which was also very tasty). If you have the opportunity to stop, do so. The food is worth it and the whole experience will have you coming back for more.
We picked Red Fox for a Groom's Dinner and couldn't be happier! We had a bit under 60 guests with a reception hour and appetizers (the shrimp cocktail was the star of this). Three choices for entree (Prime Rib and Chicken Parm with Vodka-sauce Penne starred here.) Desert was delicious too - I will vouch for the Tiramisu! Service was great! Thank you for a delightful evening!
I didn't have high hopes for what turned out to be an amazing establishment. Classy interior, perfect martini, attentive waitress. The food was AMAZING. Best shrimp cocktail I've ever had. Homemade soup was to die for. I ordered the steak and scallops and it was 100% the best dinner I've had in a long time. Sinatra on in the background. There was a couple sitting behind me and their sentiments of how much they were enjoying their dinner contributed to my very positive experience. Awesome! I loved the Red Fox so much. Thank you. p.s. I didn't have to spend $95.00 on myself for dinner. I chose to. Worth it.
This family restaurant is fantastic, good atmosphere and vibe, clean and beautiful decorations. One day we ordered pickup a thanksgiving dinner , It was a very tasty home dinner, we decided to return the next day, to get other dishes. Their onion soup is the best I have eaten so far, we ordered fish and lasagne, everything tasted a girder, these dishes are not a breakbell, it's simple, honest and tasty food cooked with heart and passion. We will definitely visit this place next time, we recommend 100%
Came for a “fancy” dinner. Bean soup was delicious, but salads were pretty simple, and filets were just...eh...okay. Ordered two drinks that had zero alcohol in them. ☹️ I think if you’re older, this is a good place but young “foodies” from the big city like us not so much. Wasn’t horrible, just mediocre. Hostess was really nice and friendly to us and you’ll leave with a full belly.
Comfortable and homey. Food is always consistent and every entree comes with soup, salad potato and bread. We have eaten here numerous times with our friends and everybody enjoyed their entree immensely. Beautiful gardens in the back which look like a winter wonderland in winter and in the summer are full of flowers.
Staff was awesome and very friendly. The food overall was enjoyable and well done, the decor could use a face lift but its worth a stop, you cannot eat atmosphere, but what you can eat tasted good.
Delicious food, prices match the service you get. Decor is nice. I've never had a bad meal here. My only complaint that is negative is for 3 consecutive years, I would call in reservations for Valentine's day and every single time they didn't have them. What's the point of taking them if you don't hold them? Long waits on Valentine's Day, we weren't happy.
Really nice place. Old school, but in a good way. Prime Rib is the move here. Generous portions & very tasty. Nice desserts, if you can get there. Service is again old school, comfortable. Very happy. Definitely check it out. Enjoy !
The restaurant was clean and smelt good. The air was clean and the tables were very neat. The glass I had in my table had marks of droplets on it, I would polish them better, otherwise everything is pristine. The food was great, the price might scare you, but you get what you pay for. I got the special and 2 Parm dishes. The bill ended up being at around 100. The quality was up to standard. The lamb chops were juicy and tender, as well as evenly seasoned all together. Out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Half: ✨ Food:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanliness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
Good classic old school dining experience. The meals were very good and the portions are large. It was odd that the entrees didn't come with any vegetables. You however get soup, salad and starch with the main dish. We really liked the lite trees out back with a dusting of snow, very nice setting.
Been here multiple times. My favorite restaurant in the Adk so far. Waitress was fun and personable.
Was able to pop in without a reservation (4 of us) after strolling thru the ice castle. Kind of a long wait to get our order after getting our drink order. Probably about a 25 minute wait to get our food after that. That can be tricky because we had a 16 month old with us. I wandered around the restaurant with her to keep her from fussing. There food was very good. I wish I had read the size of the prime rib was 16oz... it was such a large piece of meat. (But perfect!). Was surprised that there wasn't a vegetable option along with the starch. Pretty pricey menu.
Beautiful restaurant. Great service. Prime rib was okay, kind of tough and most of the flavor was in the au just. Thought the prices were a bit high for what you get.
We got a reservation after being recommended to eat there by a friend. It is a classic experience crossover between American fare and Italian and reminded us of eating out with our parents growing up. I ordered the prime rib open face sandwich and my dining companion got veal Marsala. All entrees include soup or salad and come with fresh made Italian bread. The bread is excellent and the salads were fresh. Service is slow, but friendly and kind. We kind of expected it in this environment. Entrees came out and initially looked good. Marsala dish was excellent. Open steak not so much. Apparently the kitchen had run out of prime rib and substituted a well done strip steak for the rib on the sandwich without anyone asking if this was ok. It was not good. I could see that with prime rib, the sandwich would be excellent. The server apologized and offered up dessert to make up for it. Overall, I would come back. They charge a credit card fee of 3%, soft drink refills are not included, and the meal took almost 2 hours, but we enjoyed ourselves. I’d give it a shot if the menu looks good to you!
I had the linguine red fox, I had it with white sauce but there wasn’t much flavor… I added lemon to the pasta to make it more edible considering the seafood was over cooked… I couldnt swallow it because of the chewiness… now the French onion soup was delicious… but the pasta could use a little more flavor! Overall the restaurant is beautiful! But I don’t think the pasta is worth $30…. My mother had the steak for $40 which had more fat on it than steak… she still ate it but the “glaze” was just a gravy….
Really neat space and service was very good but the meat (lamb chops) and the lobster were way overdone (tough). The au jus with prime rib tasted like it came from a packet. Our reservation was late in the evening so we chalked it up to them being rushed. Extremely pleasant staff and the environment was lovely, though it had a 1976 feel to it, but the food quality just wasn't what we expected.
Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, good service - and good food, with the possible exception of the scallops. My wife and I had the scallops and, while we didn't get full-on food poisoning, our gastrointestinal systems became very active very quick and we traded places on the porcelain throne a couple of times back at the motel room. The scallops were overcooked which, in retrospect, the chef may have done on purpose in an attempt to kill off bacteria that he/she suspected might be growing on them if he/she knew they were near the end of their usable period...
Friends tell us our experience is not the norm but we had an expensive meal and did not enjoy it. Took 3 times to get one filet medium rare. 1st attempt was very overdone, and 2nd was raw. One filet was perfect 1st time. Both orders of scallops were very overdone and too tough to eat. We both could not eat them. After the filet episode, we were not asked why we didn't eat the scallops. Our waitress got sent into a group dinner, and we waited 25 minutes to get checked out.
Great reviews by others, but. Nice atmosphere, but a bit of a challenge to go up steps to dining room. After climbing up steps we were told about rear unmarked ramp entrance. Waiter Owen was friendly and attentive. We had a party of four. Most enjoyed the food except for me. Onion soup was great. My Expensive Prime rib was over cooked and dry! Had to request Au Jus to take away dryness but did not help. Also baked potato was not even warm and undercooked. Yes I could have sent back, but that sort of would have ruined dinner flow for others. ALSO NOTE THEY ADD 3% IF YOU USE A CREDIT CARD. Do not think I would visit again in the future.
Up until last night, this was my favorite restaurant in Saranac Lake. The service is incredibly slow, but not a deal breaker and if you’ve been here a few times, you become accustomed to that and move past it because the food is enjoyable. However, last night’s food was not up to their usual standards. And, the service was terrible. I ordered the NY Strip Steak, something I’ve had many times before and enjoyed. I asked for medium and it came out burnt to a crisp and well done. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he told me it was not burnt and “that’s how steaks look when they’re cooked on the grill” and pointed to the center and said , “see it’s still a little pink in the middle.” Yes, but I had to saw through 2 inches of burnt steak to get to that. He then went on to say if I wanted a new one it would take a very long time for it to come out. I said, okay I guess I’ll try and eat this then. The owner (I think?) then came over and she offered to make me a new steak, no problem. The second one was was cooked better, but it was unseasoned and did not have the sautéed mushrooms. They did offer us free dessert, which was nice but I really just wanted a steak. It was a disappointing experience and I will not be going back there or recommending them to anyone again.
My group went to the Redfox excited to finish a big day of hiking with steak. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon. It arrived with only a small amount of pink in the middle. I brought it up to the waiter and was informed that as long as it had any pink they considered it to be medium rare. Aside from it being over cooked, it was pretty flavorless. Our entire group thought their food was over cooked and flavorless as well.
I ordered broiled scallops. They were overcooked, rubbery, and lacking in flavor. Hugely disappointing. I'm sorry, but if you're charging $45 for scallops, for God's sake cook them properly. This was our anniversary, and our dinner was a huge disappointment. Service was good, ambience good, but the food was not. In the past I have enjoyed the eggplant parmesan at the Red Fox,.and I might return again for this dish. But I will never again order seafood off their menu.
my boyfriend and i went here for a nice dinner after a long day. usually the service and food is great but the day we went it was horrible. the waiter made us feel uncomfortable and the scallops gave me food poisoning!!! do not recommend unless you want to end up in the emergency room.
I asked for recommendations re the best family restaurant in the Saranac-Lake Placid area because I wanted my family to have a wonderful last night before we returned to Cleveland. We rented a lodge on Upper Saint Regis, and after an incredible week, we were leaving the next day.The Red Fox was highly recommended. We couldn’t have been more disappointed. The service was absolutely the worst, and the food took forever and was ice cold. We had a big party, and I always tip well. We should have walked out. It’s taken me a while to post this review because I’m usually quite forgiving. In this case, I came across the photos of my family trying to be gracious and understanding, and the feelings of anger surfaced like it happened yesterday.
Not overly busy but it seems a very large man was completely invisible at front entrance. Waitress walked by twice and never once looked at me. Haven't been there awhile, which was excellent but not today. I left restaurant unserved
I was really looking forward to this restaurant. First off, they serve warm white bread (I've never seen that) then the French onion soup was so salty, it was inedible. Then the prime rib came so tough. I could barely cut it with a knife. Yes, it's a generous size but barely edible too. Desert was tiramisu and I was soggy. The best part.......our waiter had us waiting for lengthy periods of time for everything. In fact I'm writing this review while awaiting to pick up check. Don't waste your money here.......
I've been here a half dozen times and always raved about the filet. After an adventurous afternoon my girlfriend, friend, and myself went there for dinner. Yes, we were under dressed. The waiter acted like we were not going to tip from the get go. I tried the shrimp scampi and it had far far too much lemon. I ate one whole shrimp in a bite, cut two to see if it was just the one who happened to get the most of it (these things happen). I told the waiter it was too sour to eat. Tried to pick at the rice. After ignoring my comment he asked later if I wanted a box like everyone else and I again said it was inedible. He acted like it was a scam to get a free meal. It was the first time in my life I felt like I was treated like a scumbag who wasn't worth the effort and just wanted us out of there. I was still in a polo but the girls were in athletic attire. This meal was absolutely nothing to break the bank, so you might want to introduce your servers to some manners.
