Early dinner at 530 pm in the tourist off season was unrushed and uncrowded. See the included photos of the current menu with prices. The calamari was breaded in some of the lightest, crispiest breading we've tried to date. The dipping sauce seemed to be soy based with a splash of fish sauce maybe...it was very unique and tasty. The spicy Thai red curry seafood and linguine was delicious and filling. Just enough heat (spice) to leave your mouth humming slightly at the end of the meal. The beef short rib fettuccine was so well executed and the beef clearly was hand prepared in house. This entire meal reminded us of upscale comfort food. We enjoyed our meal and will be back. We did not include the extensive alcoholic beverage menu in our pictures as we did not consume alcohol with our meal. We also did not include the specials menu that had three or four different options.
Baker & Wife is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and excellent service. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made us feel welcome. The food was nothing short of fantastic—each dish was expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. You can truly taste the quality and care that goes into every bite. The ambiance was perfect—cozy yet stylish, with just the right balance of energy and comfort. It made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Overall, Baker & Wife exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking for a place with amazing food, top-notch service, and a great atmosphere, this is it. Can’t wait to return!
I’m not local so sometimes it’s not easy to decide where to go for dinner. I was looking for a nice spot with healthy options. Baker and Wife seemed like a good fit, so my boyfriend and I decided to try. It did not disappoint! We started with a French glass of wine each while waiting for our food. Our server was very polite and friendly providing information about the menu since it was our first time there. We like to try different foods so always order two different meals. Spicy Thai red curry seafood & linguine + oven roasted salmon with cilantro sauce and a side of salad (I wasn’t a fan of raw green beans in my salad, I think a better option would be - asparagus 👌). We ended up splitting a cheesecake with some tart cherries 🍒 and sweet cream - we enjoyed every bite! That was a very romantic night. Great spot for a date night. I recommend.
Visiting for Christmas, this was the best cocktail I think I've ever had. Food was also delicious. The tuna and the naan were incredible. Will come back the next time we're in town!!!
Quaint little restaurant tucked away in a strip mall. The food was very good and the service likewise. My wife and I both had the skirt steak strips dinner and we both enjoyed the flavoring very much. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time, though, or be prepared to be on a wait list standing there hoping a reservation cancels. The only real downside is the noise level is higher than I would have liked. But all in all a very nice place with good food and attentive staff.
One of the best spots I have been to. Amazing service, cute and cozy atmosphere. Lamb chops and skirt steak was the best we had.
We really love coming here! I love the atmosphere, the service is good, the menu is good, it's just a fun spot! It's a great place for the family or a date. The wine menu is great. The ambiance is so fun it's very pretty. They have outdoor dining. Although they don't have a huge menu they certainly accommodate requests! The pasta is made in house and is super delicious!
We went for dinner at 8:30 on a Saturday night and were seated promptly with a smile. They were busy, but not a packed house, and it seemed like things were slowing down for the evening, which was our intention on timing. 😀 Service was friendly, answers were spot on, and she made it a point to have good timing. We heard their pizzas were very good for a starter, but they recently stopped offering them. We had the Brussels Sprouts appetizer that’s served with pickled veggies and the vinegary sauce for the pickling. The Brussels were charred and veggies and vinegar were the perfect complement. We also had the Spicy Thai Red Curry Seafood & Linguine and the Korean BBQ Meatloaf and both meals were great in their own way. The red curry dish was not “spicy” but had good flavor once you ensured everything was re-coated with the sauce that settled in the bottom of the bowl. The Korean BBQ Meatloaf is worthy of a re-order and offered a lot of flavors and textures. From the many crunchy onion rings that topped the meatloaf, to the sauce that complemented the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, to the awesome warm serving of Kimchi. The Kimchi is house made and had very nice flavor that went well with the entire dish. Don’t be scared, this is not my old Korean friends homemade Kimchi, it’s not strongly flavored, not cold and crunchy and not spicy. Those are all the things I love about Kimchi, but this was made to fit with this dish. Since we were late diners they had sold out of a couple items on the menu, which was fine, and they informed us before ordering. However, they also ran out a dessert right when we ordered, and it sounded fabulous, Bannoffe, banana pudding, graham cracker crust, caramel and chocolate chips. Second choice may be the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. It’s a Basque Cheesecake, so it’s less dense and lighter overall, but very creamy. It was topped with tart cherries and sour cream. WOW!!! Definitely a do-over!!!
This was our first time dining at Baker and Wife and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was wonderful. The cocktails were delicious and the food was scrumptious. While I would say my salmon main course was a lighter portion, everything else was spot on. Great for a date night or celebrating.
First time to dine at Butcher & Wife and I can easily say it’s now my absolute favorite spot. I love the location and parking was easy peasy. There were families enjoying their meals as well as couples, so inviting to everyone. The decor was clever and a fabulous ambiance. I loved that you can make a reservation to sit at the bar, which is what we did. Fabulous mixologist (I think his name is Michael?). I enjoyed a basil-cucumber martini. Our server was delightful. I ordered a cantaloupe prosciutto burrata salad for my app and the beat salad for dinner. If you’re a vegan, there’s plenty to choose from and if you’re not, bingo! We watched the pizzas being made and they looked delicious too. I took a sneak photo of a dessert going out…next time! I look forward to returning and I highly recommend.
What a delightful experience! I was impressed that the hostess called me to confirm the reservation for 4 at the bar and then called me back a few minutes later, due to a cancellation, and offered us a table for 4. (Sometimes old school just works!) Our service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The drinks were as delicious as they looked in the pics. Their menu is simple but all the dishes we choose presented well and were simply really yummy. The Flourless Chocolate Square Dessert was sooo good I forgot to take a pic as we all dived in to polish it off! Definitely worth giving this place a whirl with family or friends.
Hey there, fellow foodies! I recently visited Baker & Wife, and overall, it was a great experience! The menu has a lovely Italian twist, with plenty of pizza and spaghetti options. We ordered a variety of dishes, and here's the lowdown: - thai red curry & lemon parsley linguine (so tasty, but unfortunately not hot) - fried brussels & sausage (not my fave - the pickled veggies were too vinegary, and the sausages were hard) - quilted shroom pizza (ok, but not perfect) - buckhead beef grilled skirt steak (PERFECT! So tender and flavorful - a rare find!) - eggplant & hummus appetizers (very tasty!) - sweet n sour meatloaf (my husband loved it - high praise from a foodie!) While there were a few misses, the hits were definite winners! I'd recommend Baker & Wife for their creative menu and tasty dishes. Keep up the good work, and maybe tweak those few areas for perfection! can't wait to come back and try more!
On a tip from a friend we picked Baker & Wife as a landing zone for date night this week and this place is on point. Atmosphere is fantastic, food was perfection, drinks were strong, and service was attentive. The calamari had a vinegar dressing that completely negated the need for any sauces. The burger was unbelievable and the fries were crispy. We also has the scallops. Our only disappointment was we didn’t save room for dessert.
Take it from an old-school Atlantic City waiter: the baker and his wife deserve five stars.
First time visit here. We made an Open Table dinner reservation a week out without a problem. There’s plenty of parking in front of the restaurant and on the street. The restaurant is situated in a strip center and consists of a large dining room, with a bar that seats around 10 people. Because it’s one large room the noise level is a little high. The interior is decorated nicely and provides a nice ambiance. The flames from the pizza oven can be seen from the dining room and it had an overall nice vibe. There’s also seating on the outside sidewalk with four tables. Small potted palms shield, the outdoor tables from the parking lot. It’s also a covered area outside. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and opted to sit outside as the weather was nice. Our waiter was prompt, informative on the menu and never rushed us throughout the meal. We started with an order of the spicy crunchy shrimp and a glass of wine (the selections were adequate) and an Old Fashioned. The shrimp (5) are a variation on bang bang from Bonefish and come out on a bed of greens but better with more of a kick. For dinner I ordered the sweet n sour meatloaf and partner ordered the Quilted Shroom pizza. The meatloaf was admittedly some of the best I ever had. It was cooked perfectly and a had a rich flavor augmented with the sweet n sour sauce on top. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes. My partner loved the pizza which had a white sauce, mushrooms and mozzarella topped with arugula. It’s the only leftovers we had. Skipped desert. Overall great food and dining experience here!
We had a party of seven and ordered several appetizers so a wide variety of samples from their menu, every one of which was excellent And several comments, solve if not the very best they had had of particular dishes. The waiter was excellent. Be advised, there were many locals at this place, which is always a good sign. However, given the nature of the building and seating and high degree of conversations going on, it's a pretty good follow to speak over. If you are looking for a quiet intimate setting, I would suggest find out when their off peak hours are, otherwise everything great.
I recently visited this quaint spot for dinner and had a delightful experience. The Thai red curry seafood linguine was flavorful and satisfying, though I personally felt it could have been spicier to enhance the dish. On the other hand, the Korean BBQ meatloaf was exceptional—rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Overall, it's a great place to try, offering a unique mix of dishes that cater to different tastes. The cozy atmosphere adds to the charm, making it a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. I'd definitely recommend giving it a visit!
This is a noisy restaurant so watch where you sit. The food was great - best burger I have had in a while. We have dined three times and everything on the menu is good. Deserts look good and tasted great.
The atmosphere and décor were charming, and the food presentation was beautiful. Unfortunately, the quality of the meal did not match the prices. The 1/4 chicken was the smallest portion I’ve ever been served and extremely dry—barely edible, even with the accompanying sauce. Service was also disappointing. Our server was inattentive, leaving no opportunity to address the issue during the meal. When I mentioned the problem upon receiving the bill, I was offered a replacement, but by then the rest of my party had already finished. There was no apology and no manager follow-up. With so many excellent dining options in Sarasota, I would recommend choosing somewhere other than Baker & Wife.
Disappointing first visit, especially given that I shared this feedback privately via email / the restaurant’s website and received no response. There were issues with reservation handling by the hostess team affected the overall experience. Our server was attentive and apologetic but this issue could have be solved earlier instead of (kindly) being told to leave within 5 mins of being served dessert. I had a 5:45 p.m. reservation booked through OpenTable. I arrived early and was told the reservation could not be found, even after showing the confirmation email. At one point, the hostess turned her screen toward me to show that my reservation “wasn’t there,” in a way that felt flippant and implied the issue was on my end rather than a system or process error. I overheard staff mention they were unsure how to access OpenTable, and the interaction felt dismissive rather than treated as a system issue. I mentioned I was happy to sit at the bar, eventually seated, but it was presented as a favor, despite the restaurant having just opened and not being busy. The larger issue occurred later. About 5–10 minutes before 7:00 p.m., just as dessert was served, we were told there had been a mistake with the reservation and that we needed to vacate the table within minutes. While the server was polite, no alternative seating was offered, or even comping the dessert. Being rushed out immediately after being served dessert, especially on a first visit left a poor impression. With clearer reservation management and better guest recovery, this could be a much better experience. Food was tasty, portions were good, and the ambiance was nice. I’d consider returning, but if you book through OpenTable, be prepared to defend your reservation.
