Opinions de Fred's Coffee Shop Sausalito
Great scramble eggs, Classic eggs Benedict and hash browns! I finished everything immediately because it came out quick and piping hot. And the flavor just boosted my appetite.
Always a wonderful place fora great brunch.
An all-around phenomenal experience. I had the Mexican burger with a veggie patty, and it was absolutely delicious. The portions are very generous, and the service was extremely accommodating. My dad used to rave about this place from when he visited in the 1970s, and it clearly has not lost its magic.
This place is amazing!!! Definitely one of the best breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. The food is phenomenal and the service is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!
We stumbled into Fred’s Place by accident one morning while driving from San Francisco to Mt. Tamalpais—easily the best happy accident of our trip. I ordered bacon, scrambled eggs, and hash browns; my daughter had the American Melt. Everything was simple, fresh, and genuinely delicious. The locally roasted coffee was outstanding, too. Despite the place being packed when we arrived, the staff stayed friendly, attentive, and helpful. If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll absolutely be back at Fred’s Place.
I loved the cornflake French toast. I make French toast on my homemade bread most every weekend, and this was unique with great crunch, tender on the inside, and perfectly done. The hash browns were fresh, hot, and delightful.
Haven’t been Sausalito for a long while because I worried a traffic. Came here for brunch and chill out on weekday. Turned out it was a good experience. I chose Fred’s because it’s very local, and it located not in busy downtown. Ordered the crab egg benedict and Italian Swedish, they were delicious. It’s a bit pricey but it’s ok because the portions are big. Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Who care it doesn’t have sea views. Highly recommended, definitely will come back again! Updated 1/29 : Came back again after one week. This time we ordered Fred’s Burger and Salmon Egg Benedict. Our favorite brunch place after hiking Mt. Tamalpais
No nonsense delicious fresh diner food. Huge portions for the price. I got the crab omelette with fruit, and the omelette was packed with delicious fresh crab and veggies. The fruit side was huge with fresh blueberries, blackberries, bananas, and cantaloupe. Our service was quick and coffee was hot. We’ll be back next time we’re in the area!
Great little place to stop for a quick bite. Right outside SF past the Golden Gated heading North. 8 min from the Vista Point. Service was fast, and food hit the spot. We arrived around 11, and I was able to get breakfast while my son got lunch. We sat at the bar as to enjoy some father son time together, being able to watch the chef put the food together is always a treat. Prices we’re decent for todays world, will make this a routine stop on long trips north.
One of the best place for breakfast in San Francisco. We tried this place on a fine morning. We got the coyote and crab omlette. We were totally surprised with the eggs, they were so soft, runny and delicious. It was quite a big portion and we had to get a box. Coffee, and their desserts was great. The customer service was great and wonderful place to try. Price is affordable and the quantity is fair for the price.
It's been our favorite breakfast place for years. The Swedish pancakes are amazing and one of a kind! We love all of their omelettes, and the crab omelette is my personal favorite. So flavorful and delicious. Regular coffee is nice and strong with refills. We've been coming here for 15 years, starting with when we lived in the area, and even now, whenever we are back for summer visits.
Went for a morning drive to Sausalito from San Francisco. I hadn’t been to this town in ages & wanted to revisit this charming town. I googled places for breakfast & Fred’s looked promising so we headed there. There’s a small shared parking lot next to the cafe & plenty of street parking. It’s a small cafe with some outdoor seating & it was pretty busy on Saturday morning. We were seated at a large shared table with two other people. They didn’t mind & neither did we. Extensive menu- I’d read the most popular items are the lemon ricotta pancakes, egg plate with sweet bacon, deep fried French toast & the Swedish, but looking at fellow customers plates who’d ordered some of the dishes, I decided I could not eat such large portions! I went for the single berry waffle & my husband ordered the veggie omelette. The waffle was delicious; only wish the syrup they served was real Maple syrup. I don’t eat the fake stuff so I skipped it. The omelette was very nice & came with toast & hash browns. We had ordered cappuccino & laughed when we saw the size of the “cup” - almost like a mini bathtub! I’m fussy about my coffee & this one just ok. Overall, a nice little place to enjoy breakfast before walking down to the marina & town center.
We came around 11 on a Sunday. The place is located farther from the center, so the area is not particularly crowded. There is a small parking belonging to the place as well as free street parking on the street. The place has tables inside and outside. Outside is way better indeed - fresh air and not so crowded, inside is a rather packed. The place has a toilet but be ready for a queue. First we had to wait in the queue to be seated for around 30 minutes. One has to register their name in the book for queuing which is not obvious. When seated we knew what to order and made the order directly: a fried egg with sausage and an omelette, 2 fresh juices. The food arrived in 15-20 minutes. However, they mixed up our order and brought a wrong platter. It took them some time to change it. Next when we were eating, we found a large bug in the omelette. The waiter was polite and helpful offered to cancel the order or change it. We asked to change our order, the new omelette although without anything else on the plate came shortly. All in all the place is fine, but juicy bug in the food was very disappointing. The food looked fine but didn’t taste particularly great: egg was not cooked till the degree we asked, potato tasted bitter oil. The prices are rather high, for two drinks and egg platters we paid totally around 50 usd.
Place has lost its grip. Linguisa sausage and hash browns were burnet. Black marks . Both of our dishes. With only 3 tables occupied , no one bothered filling our waters. Much, much better available elsewhere.
***IF YOU CARE ABOUT PEOPLE LIVING WITH A DISABILITY DO NOT GO HERE*** This is a horrible establishment. I had my service dog who is a registered service animal. At the door they told us we had to sit outside, even though it was 8:20am so only 48 degrees outside. When I tried to tell them that she is a registered service animal and I can show them her ID (which is already extending myself because legally I do not even have to do that) they did not care. The man cut me off and said “no only outside.” To have my disability completely dismissed felt horrible and was embarrassing. I did not want to cause a scene at the door so I left and called asking to speak to a manager. I thought that I could nicely clear this up with someone, but the same guy answered the phone and said “no manager here” in the same rude and dismissive tone. When I tried to go to their website to see if I could email somebody, it redirected me to a sketchy online casino website. You cannot make this kind of thing up! Since moving to SF I have not had any issues like this. I have been to fancy Italian restaurants, expensive sushi restaurants…that have all been more tha accommodating. So to be told I could not sit inside A DINER with my service animal was shocking. **** IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL! ****** Restaurants in California are considered “public accommodations” under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and state law, which means they must allow people with service animals into all areas where customers are normally allowed. They cannot be excluded simply because of the service animal. It’s one thing for an employee to be ignorant of the law. That happens. What’s unacceptable is pairing that ignorance with arrogance and outright rudeness when I attempted to explain the actual legal requirements. There was no manager on site. No website. No visible way to hold anyone accountable. The entire interaction reeked of a sketchy, poorly run operation that thrives on dismissiveness rather than responsibility. This place should be ashamed of itself.
Absolutely disgusting behavior. Avoid this place at all costs. I have never been treated so horribly by any restaurant. Our child accidentally spilled something — as kids do — and instead of responding with even basic human decency, the staff swore at us. Yes, swore at a family with a child. And it gets worse: they actually told us to clean the floor ourselves, barking orders at us like we were an inconvenience they wanted to get rid of. I’ve never seen such hostility or unprofessionalism from people who claim to be in “hospitality.” It was humiliating, aggressive, and completely out of line. Mind you, we’ve been customers for 20+ years and these were the owners communicating with us. If this is how they treat customers — especially families — then they don’t deserve a single dollar of anyone’s business. There are plenty of restaurants where the staff understands kindness, respect, and how to behave like adults. This place is NOT one of them.
Here’s the deal: we decided to try this place for something new. Our normal breakfast place is Salt and Pepper in Tiburon. The bottom line: this place is mid and Salt and Pepper is the best breakfast in Marin. We ordered: the sweet bacon, Swedish pancakes, and scrambled eggs with chorizo and onion. Pancakes: ok- lacked flavor and the maple syrup on the table tasted like those fake syrups. Eggs: not great- chorizo and onion were in huge chunks- the preparation lacked attention to detail and was messy. I asked what other toppings we could add to the eggs and was told they don’t do that here. This dish was $25. See photo. Bacon: nice flavor but very chewy and not crispy. $10 for two pieces of bacon is absurd. All in all, we will not return and we’re VERY disappointed. The service was unfriendly and rushed. Skip this place. It’s no good.
