Opinions de Cull House Sayville
Awesome hidden gem by the water in Sayville. If seafood is your thing, don't skip the Cull House! The lobster special is unbeatable, and the regular menu has something for everyone. Don't let the disposable utensils or dishes fool you, it's all to protect the nearby waters of Browns River and Great South Bay.
We love The Cull House !! Such a great spot for lunch or dinner !! The new renovations look wonderful, so pretty and the food is delish !!!!! The staff and owner are always friendly and attentive !!!
Beautiful seating outside comfortable and shaded , food was cooked perfect and absolutely delicious. We had fresh oysters on the half shell, fried calamari with a delicious fresh dipping tomato based sauce,an order of steamers and lobster roll with an up charge for street corn( 💯 worth the upcharge soo good) our waitress was very nice she could have been a bit more attentive but she was super nice .
We had an amazing time. The food, every plate, every bite, was just delicious. The ambience is casual and relaxed and oh so friendly (from our waitresses to our server to the GM - just so nice) and inviting - really made our whole dining experience that much more enjoyable for an already awesome tasting series of dishes! We had the lobster bisque, crab fritters, lobster pot pie, swordfish, espresso bars & key lime mousse - when I say delish, lemme tell you DELISH! Recommend and we'll be back.
The food was so good. The calamari was tender, fried crisp, great sauce to dip, the fried shrimp diner was fabulous.
Outstanding service, great drinks and the best part, great food! I highly reccomend eating here. I'm from out of town and went here for dinner. It exceeded all my expectations!
Great seafood place, food is always top notch and there are plenty land based options if any in your party don't like seafood. Awesome service, ambiance and location
We go every New Years Day because we live out of State. Their food was better than ever. Great skirt steak, bay scallops, dessert, etc. Never had a bad meal here in 10 years +.
Great little place good food and friendly staff. Made for a wonderful afternoon
My wife and I love coming here as we know it is consistently a delicious dinner. The prices are very fair considering the quality and quantity of food you are served. I always get the baja cod fish tacos and buffalo chicken tenders. They are the best here and never disappoint. Love the live music outside. Ask my wife about one of my favorite places to eat and one of the answers will surely be the Cull House.
Quick and friendly service with delicious food for a reasonable price! The honey calamari and red snapper were amazing. 10/10 recommend!
We arrived a little before 5 pm tonight, Sunday. Never having been here before, we were only going by reviews, which were 90% positive. We were shown to a table right away, and found the place bright, cheery, and cozy. Kim was our waitress and could not have been more gracious and friendly. She took our order and we were both surprised how quickly it was served. We both had the Broiled Seafood Platter, with sweet potato fries. I have to say we were so surprised, and delighted with everything. The Flounder was very flavorful and fresh, the scallops were sweet, the baked clam had nice large pieces of clams and not overwhelmed by breadcrumbs, the shrimp nice and large, and the crab cake delicious, oversized and full of fresh crabmeat. The best thing about this meal was that it was not drenched in salt. Each flavor was unique and mouthwatering. Our waitress stopped by the table twice or so to make sure we had what we needed, but was not an intrusion at all. All in all, best Seafood Platter we have had. I can't wait to go back and explore more items from their menu. Food, atmosphere and service; Five Stars. Thankyou!!!
I just have to say, Nathan is absolutely amazing. He is a jack of all trades (hosting, serving, bartending, and much more.) Without him, our experience would not have been as great as it was. He was extremely attentive and concerned about our needs. Was on top of everything, and anything we needed or asked for was met in an extremely timely fashion. He was absolutely amazing and I truly suggest requesting him when you ever come here whether it’s drinks, food, or entertainment. Thank you Nathan!
Love the Cull House! Great seafood, great service, great atmosphere. Close to the Fire Island ferries and the water, catches a little breeze if you're sitting outside on a nice evening. Been coming here for 30 years, always great. Good craft beer selection. Clams casino, yumm.
The food is amazing but honestly we come here to hang out with Nate! He is literally the best part of our visit to Cull House. When we walk in the door he has our drinks ready for us and always greets us with a smile. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name… and you’re always glad you came!! — The Roser’s
Nice enough location with pleasant outdoor seating, other than more bees than many people would be comfortable with because of all the flowers. The food was really good and there are many more things on the menu we want to try so we'll be back. Bring your (well behaved) dog and enjoy your meal or maybe a drink or two on the patio. I think that our server should probably look for a different type of job because she wasn't very good at this one 🙃 It's a good thing that the hostess was a pleasure to deal with 🙂 because she solved the server problem a few times.
If you are looking for delicious seafood near the water look no further. This restaurant is tucked away near the ferry and can be missed if you are not looking out! Finally I was able to sit down here, outdoor seating was great on such a nice day. The menu has options for non fish eaters and the appetizers are a good portion size sure to leave you satisfied. The fish was fried to perfection and still perfectly tender on the inside. Jumbo sized shrimp were also perfectly fried and delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu!
Our first visit to The Cull House was really nice! The chicken pot pie and fish tacos were delicious! The service was great, and the atmosphere was very inviting! Johnny and Melanie were so friendly and welcoming! We look forward to returning again with friends and family! Thank you!♡
Great local restaurant to get some great food and drinks for lunch or dinner. Polite,Friendly and Competent staff. Didn't notice any waiting or complaints from other customer's. Owner was. Very friendly and hands on. Mike the bartender and great mixologist, Traditional recipes. A friendly, quite place to take a date if you enjoy a positive atmosphere and enjoy communicate with your date.
Just wanted to give a shout out to The Cull House for hosting our daughter’s first communion reception. The location was perfect and the room accommodated our party of 30 comfortably. The food was amazing, even for those who were not seafood eaters. The outside private patio area was a game changer for when the kids needed to burn off some energy. The service was stellar, Romona was truly the best! Growing up so close to the water it was even more meaning full to have our celebration at this spot. ❤️ looking forward to many more happy times at this gem 😊
I went to the Cull House, on the water, as part of the Sayville Movie Theater, $99. Movie & Dinner package for 2 people. Ordered from a special menu with a variety of delicous dinner and app choices. The dinner voucher got us an app, 2 dinners, and 2 drinks. I would highly recommend taking advantage of this package deal.
Alexa, our server was amazing today. She went above and beyond. We had a great day and even better food .
Everything is wonderful. I love their muscles in white wine and garlic sauce. You have to get the Baja Cod tacos..Staff is super friendly, our waitress Ramona is the best
Great food n great atmosphere, great service! Cozy place to go for a bite and a beer when it's snowy outside!
Lobster Roll was the best thing ever! Get it with Tater Tots for a decadent treat. Thai Shrimp Soup, a special, was delicious. Was my first time here, it won’t be my last.
Stopped for lunch on a recent trip to Sayville. Great specials for lunch, it was difficult to choose until you see the $19.95 lobster roll special. Full of lobster meat, light on the dressing just a great sandwich. Luncheon companion had the $22 1-1/4 steamed lobster, perfectly steamed and hot. Great lunch.
What a terrific gem of a restaurant my wife and I discovered today. My wife had the clam chowder and the broiled seafood platter. I enjoyed the steamed little neck clams and the fish tacos. Melanie our server was wonderful! She was super pleasant and truly efficient. We'll definitely be back!
I was Stuck at the yard next door for two days and had the amazing opportunity to eat here on multiple occasions. This place is a charm, everyone makes you feel like family even though I am from far away. The service was outstanding. Had multiple meals and I was extremely impressed with the quality. The lobster roll is to die for. Only problem, I have to leave. Can't wait to be back . Thank you for your amazing hospitality.
Not sure what was better, the hospitality or the food? What a perfect date night at the Cull House. Long time South Shore residents somehow we had never been here before. Date night, Started off with a drink and a Manhattan Clam Chowder at the cozy bar(3 TVs all the games were on!). Our bartender was very kind and attentive(remade a drink we didn’t love). Moved to a table by the windows for our meal. Blackened Shrimp Tacos and a Spinach Stuffed Flounder. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Highly Highly recommend this local spot.
Restaurant Review: The Cull House – A Hidden Gem on Long Island Tucked away near the Patchogue waterfront, The Cull House is one of Long Island’s true seafood treasures — a place where the atmosphere is as fresh as the catch. On a recent visit, I had the pleasure of experiencing everything this beloved spot has to offer, and I can confidently say it lived up to its stellar reputation. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The outdoor seating area gives off cozy beachy vibes, perfect for a summer evening. But what truly elevated the experience was our incredible server, Alexa. Alexa was nothing short of phenomenal. Friendly, attentive, and effortlessly knowledgeable about the menu, she made us feel right at home without being overbearing. She offered honest recommendations, remembered every detail of our order without writing a thing down, and checked in just enough to make sure we were fully taken care of. Alexa brought both warmth and professionalism to our meal, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about her guests’ experience. Now, let’s talk about the food — because wow. We started with the classic raw oysters, which were unbelievably fresh and briny, served chilled on ice with all the right fixings. For mains, I had the lobster roll, served buttery and warm with just the right amount of mayo and seasoning. Every bite melted in my mouth. The clam pasta was another standout — perfectly al dente linguine tossed in a garlicky white wine sauce with tender little neck clams. And don’t skip the crab cakes — they’re packed with meat, not filler, and seared to a golden crisp. Portions were generous, flavors were on point, and the drink menu offered a great variety of local beers and refreshing cocktails (the frozen mudslide is dangerously good). Dessert? We shared a key lime pie that struck the perfect balance between tart and sweet. All in all, The Cull House isn’t just a seafood restaurant — it’s an experience. Whether you’re a Long Island local or visiting from out of town, this place is absolutely worth a visit. And if you’re lucky enough to have Alexa as your server, you’re in for an even better night. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five stars. Would absolutely return.
Love coming here for lobster madness on Mondays! Alexa and Nathan really make the atmosphere feel fun and welcoming. The food is always so good and the service is even better.
Best Lobster bisque I've had since Baymens closed down! Baked clams, Crab meat stuffed shrimp, fish tacos and crab cakes are amazing too. Staff was welcoming, attentive and fun.
We love the Cull House! Got my neighbors to come here! We also came for the Chef choice which was excellent!! Our waiter was wonderful, our food was excellent and we even met the handsome owner Joe! Keep doing what you’re doing!! I love good w!!!
Lovely people! Gorgeous new bar. Great atmosphere. Cocktails were delicious. Live music was amazing. Can’t wait for the summertime to enjoy the outdoor seating.
Always such a nice time at The Cull House! The food and drinks are amazing, and the service is always great. Everyone who works there is so friendly! Definitely one of my favorite go to spots!
This was exactly what I hoped to find for a dockside dining experience — refreshing cocktails, fresh seafood, and a friendly, casual ambiance. With a live band playing at the bar, we chose to sit in the dining room where we could still enjoy the music while also having our own conversation. All the seafood was delicious and well prepared! The raw oysters were a particular highlight — plump with clean flavors. As we left, we spent a moment standing on the dock and soaking in the gorgeous sunset — a perfect evening!
Awesome valentines day dinner. Honey calamari was DELISH! Service was good and friendly and the cocktails were great too!!
Great food, quaint exterior with a surprisingly beautiful interior. Bar tender very nice and accommodating. The only people that wouldn’t like this place have black and white tasteless photos of themselves with silly hats. With some insecurity issues. Awesome spot though!
Went here for my wife's birthday, had a great experience, everyone loved their food. The live music was very good and not overwhelming meaning you didnt have to yell to have table conversation. We stayed for dessert and that was also delicious. The owner John came over to the table to say hello, that was a nice personal touch. Great food, great service and a fair price. We will definitely be back.
Its been a lot of years since I last visited. New ownership has done a great job brightening up the place compared to what I remember. Lively crowd, and great feel. Bartender was a bit innattentive for a not so crowded bar - he was getting hit with a lot of service bar orders though.
I hadn't been to this restaurant in awhile, so I was happy when my friend suggested it. I had a delicious lunch of cedar plank salmon. My friends had a Lobster Roll and Fish Tacos and enjoyed them as well. We also split a delicious chocolate mousse dessert! Also, they remodeled the restaurant. They took down walls and it feels more open and breezy!
Nice cozy place with super friendly staff. Looking for a great seafood menu? This is the place. Nice selection of other dishes if you prefer something else. When we got there we thought Uh, Oh... parking lot is packed and we are in for a long wait. Not the case as we were seated quickly. Further amazed since almost every table was taken yet within minutes our waitress came by to take our drink orders and tell us what the specials were. Everything we ordered came out quickly and was great. They have got their routine down pat here. Shrimp Scampi that I had was done to perfection. It also came with a nice side salad. Wife had a Cull salad was a ten thumbs up. She also had a Pinot Grigio that was very, very good. We ate inside, but there is a nice outside seating area as well. If we are back in the area we would eat here again in a heartbeat.
This is a great local spot! I got the Fried Fisherman's Platter and a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Portion size was great and everything was properly cooked. The best parts were the homemade cocktail and tartar sauce, tender juicy fish, and fries that were perfectly crispy yet still soft in the center.
Definitely, this is one of the best friendly places on the shores of the bay💥. Lobsters are very large and tasty👍. The fried fish is fresh and crispy👍. The waiter is very attentive🙂. The owner of the restaurant is a true professional in his field💛. We were fed very tasty food and felt at home for a while. I recommend🌸!
This place felt very cozy and has a lot of personality! Highly recommend it for tasting the local seafood on Long Island. The calamari with balsamic reduction was a fun, savory twist. The oysters had two different sauces you can drizzle on them. We had the lobster clam bake which was delicious! You can't really go wrong ordering anything on the menu here.
Casual, good local seafood and more place. Time for some comments as this was my third visit to the Cull House as the family explores our new neighborhood. We have stopped by for weekday lunch and dinner as well as now for Saturday night dinner. The service has been consistently well paced and attentive, the food excellent, and I sofar keep ordering from the weekly special menu. The pricing is balanced given the combination of the quality of the food, portion size, and location adjacent to the Fire Island ferries. The place was bustling Saturday at about 6:00, but we were still seated immediately with a party of 4. Looking forward to returning as this is a lovely local gem.
Glad I knew ahead to expect plastic ware and paper plates. Food was good. I had stuffed shrimp..while the shrimp were small the crabmeat stuffing was tasty...baked clams were very good!. Fried calamari was okay. I'd go back knowing what to expect and what to order
Food was amazing but this is more of a chill spot; despite high prices (especially nowadays) it was different to eat on paper plates and use plastic cutlery. Not the worst, just different. The food was BANGIN, but portion sizes are decent (for me) but smaller than today's average (for others). Service was a bit slow and our seating area was slightly messy as there were scallops and cutlery on the floor.. All in all, food and drink was great though!
We almost did not eat dinner here because the description stated that the food is served on paper plates. I'm glad we changed our minds. The staff is extremely friendly with service to match. My ceasar salad and fish and chips was excellent. My fiance found the frutti de mare quite tasty, but the linguini was a bit too al dente for him. They do serve some food on paper plates, but not the entres. I am fairly certain that the plates are made from recycled materials and are biodegradable, a plus.
Everything tasted good and was reasonably priced. The only complaint that I would have was that the lobster roll was served on a hard roll. I will still be back for more as they have a great menu
Always a great staff at Cull House. Food is good, but service is excellent. John the owner is engaging and really makes you feel like family. I would definitely recommend sitting in back as it is a unique experience with fish pond and waterfall. A little upset that lunch menu is gone due to COVID but happy to be patronizing a local establishment that cares for customers.
Lobster roll was a little dry, but a good quantity of meat. But to ask for 20,25, or 30% tip is unacceptable. This tells me you don’t pay your employees enough. Sad.
Entree really good. Oyster appetizer was edible (filled with broken shells). Service was good but what really bothered me was when a gentleman (manager/owner, I don't know) walked up to my table and asked if everything was ok and asked if we needed anything as he stood over the absolutely filty salt and pepper shakers. I said everything is good.
I was jonesing for some clam chowder and seafood and the Cull House was a spot that came recommended in the area. The Cull House delivered on perfect seafood restaurant ambience, a great location near the bay and surrounding channels, as well as some good food! I ordered the New England Clam Chowder and the Crab Cake Sandwich. Both were what I was looking for!
As a local, I have been coming to The Cull House on & off for many years. Sometimes, the food and service is outstanding, other times it is mediocre at best. I can't give a higher rating because it's hit or miss. With that being said, my most recent visit was ranked a definite 5 out of 5. The food and service was spectacular! Located near the Sayville Ferries, there's a private lot for the restaurant as well as some street parking. The service is always unpredictable. During my last visit, our server was excellent. She continued to offer drink refills and was very friendly. At other visits, the service is slow and not very attentive. Maybe they have stepped it up, hopefully it's permanent. The prices are fair. For the area, the menu items are priced ok. This is certainly not a restaurant that is going to break the bank, but it may not be a cheap night out either. The food is always unpredictable as well. During my last visit, I was more than impressed. Over the years, I've tried a ton of menu items. I will be listing my favorites: Seafood Penne Alla Vodka, Steamers, New England Clam Chowder, Fish Tacos, Shrimp Tacos, Skirt Steak. Overall, The Cull House is a cute restaurant with a great location. I hope the service and food continue to improve!! I'll be back.
Had Sunday dinner there. Never have I ever had hot soup served in a cardboard bowl. Strong fishy smell upon entering. Had the Fisherman Platter broiled and fried & Linguini with white clam sauce with shrimp. Fried Calamari as an appetizer. Food was good. Service was average.
The Cull House is a favorite local fish house a couple of blocks off the docks which serve the ferries to Fire Island. The setting is pleasant, inside and out. Our party enjoyed calamari, clams, and a shrimp wrap with blackened shrimp. The Clams Casino appetizer alone is worth the trip. However – and this is a big “however” – the lobster bisque was fraudulent. It didn’t taste like lobster and there was no sign of it in the soup, taste or otherwise. It tasted like cheese whiz and cornstarch.
Lovely atmosphere. Small pricey servings on paper plates. Food is fresh and good. Service could be better. They use paper straws which is wonderful. You have to ask for a straw. I've been there 2 times to celebrate friends as it was their choice to go there.
The food is incredible!!! The service was awful. I sat for 15 min before anyone took my drink order. Thankfully I was ready to order my food by the time they did come. Food came out quickly but then I have to wait over 35 minutes to get my check.
My food was okay. See attached photos. My husband's on the other hand was just so, so. His very small expensive Pina colada was not blended, chicken wings were overcooked & the broiled fishermans platter he gave a 5. Real dishes & silverware 🍽 would of been nice. This place is way over priced!!
My family and I have been enjoying this place for many years but unfortunately that has slipped away over the last year. The interior has improved greatly! New paint, flooring and furniture not to mention a new much longer bar to be served at with new stools to sit on. BUT! Unfortunately it ends there. The food has gone down more and more with the service right behind the food. I ordered fries from Arbys today with lunch 1 mile away and they were still hot when eating them. I ordered fries last night here 50' away and when served they were warm and soggy at best. Along with an under cooked 1 1/2 lb. lobster. This has been going on for to long which has pushed this customer to far. The past owner provided good food at a fair price with old furniture and dingy walls. You can't eat or drink the walls. Drinks can be good if the right bar tender is working, there is still hope here. The wait staff tends to get lost in the kitchen and don't seem to care how long you wait for your check to leave. Something needs to change otherwise all good intentions by the new owner will be wasted for him and be someone else's gain for sure. A shame.
Went to dinner on a very slow Tuesday night. There were 4 of us and we were seated immediately as the restaurant was very slow and not many people. Served our drinks and appetizer in a timely manner...and it was fine...we had ordered our entrees when we ordered appetizers. We waited quite a while for the main course to be served and we all noticed the waitress was in the next room talking to a table for 2 for quite a while. Finally a bus boy or expediter served our main course...we all had broiled seafood or broiled salmon. It should have been sizzling when served...all four entrees were only warm and all were dried out as though they had sat under the heat lamp for an extended period. We didn't say anything or make a scene, just paid for our meal and left. There is no way this should have happened on a slow Tuesday evening. I have been going to the Cull House for many years and never experienced this type of cold food or service with the previous owner or current owner...just a bad night...but it turned us off and we probably won't be back.
We hadn't been to the The Cull House in a while and had heard there was a new owner, so we decided to go for lunch. It was nice to see that the dining room had been renovated. The interior was bright with a casual coastal theme. I think that the menu prices should have required silverware instead of plastic cutlery. I definitely enjoyed the Broiled Fisherman's Platter, which included a nice variety of seafood. The Chicken Saltimbocca was very tasty as well. I would recommend lunch at The Cull House over dinner because it was quiet, relaxing and easy to find parking.
Fish tacos were dry and came out cold, martini drink was awful. Fries and street corn were decent. Waiter was pleasant, probably summer staff. Tipped well not his fault the food sucked..
I had the baked/broiled seafood combo $35.00. I'm being kind, I did not hate it, but would never order it again
New ownership...changed many things. Lobster bisque shouldn't have cheese sauce in it The stuffed shrimp seem mass produced and very bland. Dinner for 2....$180 out the window
Ordered the fish and chips it was awful two tiny pieces of old smelly fish and four large chips and they had the audacity to charge $26 for which I didn't pay, fresh seafood what a joke,
Food was very good, not a great portion, but good. Service was excellent. Other than that, this restaurant isn't someplace I'd recommend to anyone. It was so cold in the restaurant I couldn't get comfortable, & I'm always warm, & so very, very uncomfortable. They give you plastic forks, spoons & knives. Wow! Really! I was surprised & I think is seriously tactless. Someone said it's because the restaurant is by the water. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I've been to many restaurants closer to the water & they never gave plastic utensils. The food isn't overly expensive, but for the portions, plastic utensils, no heat, I will not go back, bring any relatives or friends, or recommend The Cull House to anyone. I felt I was also put in a position to overtip. Something I will never do again. Yes, the young man was very nice, but I've been to much better restaurants, & that won't happen again.
Came here for Mother’s Day and the food was poor. From the presentation to the taste. The calamari appetizer was good, but that was it. From the soup to my entrée, I was not impressed at all. Will not be returning.
Would not recommend. Everything we ordered was disappointing — easily one or two stars at best. The Manhattan clam chowder was extremely thin and butternut squash soup m tasted more like dishwater with sugar. The crab cake was just a fried patty of who-knows-what, and the broiled seafood platter had absolutely no flavor — like eating cardboard. Definitely not worth the visit.
The food was adequate but unremarkable. While not bad, nothing stood out as particularly memorable or well-executed. Unfortunately, the service was severely lacking. The staff seemed inattentive and unprofessional, which significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. While the food was passable, the poor service makes this establishment difficult to recommend. Unless you have no other dining options in the area, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for a more pleasant experience. Let's call it 2.5 stars.
Came here on New Year’s Eve. Had a special menu for NYE. Wasn’t very impressed with the quality of the food. Ordered chicken francaise. No flavor at all. Everything tasted very watery & blah. Couldn’t order from the regular menu. Waste of $$$ for 2 people. Everything is eaten with plastic utensils & paper plates. Had cranberry spritz. That was good. Dessert was good.
How do I post a review with zero stars? I was extremely disappointed. The service was horrible. Food was just eh. We had a table of 6. It took an hour for our appetizers to come. After 45 minutes of waiting patiently for them we asked for bread. Only to wait another 15 mins for 4 tiny slices of bread. When they finally arrived, we had no plates or eating utensils. They never brought out one of the appetizers. We mentioned it and it finally came out after the dinner was served. The clams were about the size of a quarter... if that. Everything was cold (should have been hot). My drink was wrong and tasteless. When the food finally came out it was all cold. My son's meal was wrong so we had to wait even longer for the correct dish to be served. $500 to eat cold miniscule size food on cardboard plates. Never again.
Let me preface this by saying we have been coming here for YEARS and have never had such an awful dining experience... ANYWHERE!! 5 o'clock for dinner this past Friday night. 4 people & were seated immediately only to wait over 20 minutes for our glasses of water. The place was not overpacked and they seemed to have plenty of people on staff. We ordered our appetizers, clams on the half shell...Where on earth does it take over an hour to get a raw appetizer?? When they finally brought it out we inhaled it. They then brought the same appetizer 45 minutes later which we sent back as it was not ours. I ordered the lobster bake which was fine (but they forgot my corn and overcooked the sausage), my wife had the very dry and unflavored tacos (you can get much better at QDOBA and not wait 2 hours for it), my Mom got the broiled with butter halibut dish which was completely overcooked and dry as a bone, my Father ordered the Cull House lobster bake as well and was not happy with his overcooked sausage and missing corn cob. We did not receive our meals until 7!!! That is completely unacceptable. No manager coming around to assist anyone. We never got an apology or explanation as to why we were treated this way. This was enough to never come back again. Everyone is entitled to an "off night" but this was beyond!! Everything went completely wrong and no one acknowledged it. $224 & we should not have tipped at all but did... $30!
My father and I started off with two margaritas. Both were watered down and tasteless; my fathers had a fruit fly in his and I had dirty black ice in mine. We then ordered lobster bisque… that had no lobster. Now the flavor wasn’t horrible, but I definitely would not order it again. Then we ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was lacked freshness, and one shrimp had a very questionable fishy flavor. My father ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder and it was COMPLETELY watered down. It looked so unappetizing, I was shocked he didn’t send it back. (The waitress was kind enough to take it off the bill for us) We ordered the Clams Casino, which is not made fresh to order, but it was okay at best. Lastly, I ordered the lobster roll special for $19.95. Lots of shells and cartilage, again lacking freshness, and sides were extra. For that price, I would hands down rather go to Claws on West Sayville, which comes with a side of French Fries. Overall, we were not impressed and do not plan on returning.
Usually a nice place. Tried to surprise my wife with a lobster roll. Called ahead and told ready in a few minutes. Took 10 minutes to drive there and then stood in the lobby another 35 minutes for a single cold lobster roll. Roll half filled, broccoli cold and coleslaw thrown in the bag upside down. I could see if they were busy, but they weren’t. Very disappointing. They used to be so good
We walked in excited for a nice meal, but instead got 20 minutes of being ignored. No water, no drink order — just watching the waiter serve every other table, including people who sat down after us. We were the only people of color in the room, and it’s hard to ignore how different we were treated. What hurt even more is the waiter seemed to be part of another minority group(🏳️🌈), still chose to treat us this way. We left feeling unwelcome and disappointed.
Considering the place had 12 people dining and drinking at bar the service was slower than slow, it was awful. Food was marginal. Do not recommend. First and last time here.
This was my first and last visit to the cull house I went for the German event. The food was underwhelming, and service left much to be desired. I arrived around 4:30 PM the parking lot was full but I found one open spot with no issue at all or nothing blocking it. When I returned to leave about 2 hours later I discovered my vehicle was blocked in the owner John assisted in locating the owner of the vehicle blocking me in. It turned out the owner of the vehicle was a maintenance worker named Jim who was clearly drinking as he had a beer in his hand he repeatedly and insisted we moved shelves to take a spot that I guess they were saving for themselves which tells me the blocked me in to make a point. Jim was so unprofessional and rude to not my wife and me. After spending $120 to attend the German fest being treated so poorly was extremely disappointing. Sadly this experience has ensured I won’t be back. I would caution others to avoid this place as they don’t know how to treat people let alone a paying customer! Avoid avoid
Grandkids and my wife took me to dinner for my bday ...food was under cooked service was slow after making reservation still waited for 1-1/2 hours before being seated almost everything we wanted to order they supposedly ran out of . Spent $300 and a $100 tip basically just to sit and talk ...best thing was the drinks wouldn't recommend to anyone not even my enemy. So I placed my review and the cull house response was that I have the wrong place ....lies ...my reservation was at 6pm we didn't sit til 730pm even the young lady at the entrance said she doesn't know what the wait was about then we was told there wasn't any calamari left...my company want to really boycott but I was against it
I have been to the Cull House many times. It was always a summer favorite coming off the Sayville ferry. The Oysters Rockefeller were always exceptional. Today, they were almost inedible. I ordered the hot lobster roll, and there was not one piece of claw or tail. Not one piece could be picked up with a fork; the pieces were miniscule! Unfortunately, this visit ensures I will never be back, and I will never recommend it again. The food was less than mediocre. The service was slow because there was one person as the hostess, waitress, and bartender for the entire restaurant. We were seated before three others and had to ask for our drink orders well after others who were seated after had received there orders. It is so sad to see what was always a treat turned into a bad experience.
