Opinions de Rumble Fish Scotts Valley
My favorite sushi place in Santa cruz area is always sushi garden, but this place is a very close second. They are always on point. The food is delicious, the portion sizes are perfect and the price us fair compared with other sushi joints, I would recommend this place to all my friends. I do not eat seafood, but when I come here I order other meat options like a teriyaki beef plate, or the vegetarian rolls like avocado, baked yam, cucumber, etc. There are many options for non seafood eaters who still love sushi here. The service is always good here, and the sushi chef is right across the way from you in the dining room and always yells hello at people as they enter the restaurant, very friendly! They also have the standard selection of Japanese beers. ** my only qualm is that they are only open from 1130-230 and then 5-9, I wish they were open in between lunch and dinner. Oh well!
Awesome! Scotts Valley Roll is super good!! Toro is fabulous! Staff is awesomely friendly. If you're a snob go somewhere else, more for me and my friends and family.
I love our local Sushi restaurant. The food is always great, the service is literally as good as it gets, and the atmosphere is fun. Two thumbs up :-)
A top contendor for one of the best restaurants in Scott's Valley. I usually get the 3 item bento box. It never let's me down. Every choice winds up excellent. I appreciate knowing which ever I pick it's going to be great.
Great food; cleanly prepared. There is some sitting outside, but most people ordered to go. They could probably benefit from outside tent seating in one of their parking lots.
Wonderful, super fresh sushi with a gigantic menu to choose from. Great price.
You cannot beat the 2 roll combo lunch deal! It comes with a salad and a miso soup w tofu! Only 10.50! I got a shrimp tempura roll and a California roll! What a deal and Man so yummy!!!!!
I love the food here. I also loved working here as well. Great staff, great owners and delicious food! Best sushi around in my opinion.
Excellent quality in a nice atmosphere. The owners are wonderful and caring. Always new items in the menu, with all the favorites done well. A local Scotts valley favorite.
The staff was so friendly! Probably some of the best sushi in Santa Cruz county. I'm Air Force and have spent a few months in Japan but this food is comparable.
This is definitely our favorite sushi spot in the Santa Cruz area! The fish is fresh, rolls are creative (there are some more simple classics too), and the staff is always friendly.
Fantastic staff, good food, great price. Probably the best sushi spot (that wont break the bank) in the Santa Cruz area. 😄
First time visit and I can say I'm quite impressed. They offer many creative sushi rolls reasonably priced. The service from Ethan was top notch! We will be back soon
My friend and I had a delightful lunch at Rumble Fish . Our Bento boxes were filled with satisfying fresh ingredients which were cooked to perfection. The Staff was positive and served us quickly in a clean, friendly environment. This is the best Sushi restaurant we've visited in Scotts Valley. It was our first visit and we look forward to this experience again in the future.
The rocky was one of the best rolls ive ever had. Definitely the best sushi roll I've had in the Santa Cruz area. This place is definitely a go to for a sushi place with excellent quality fish.
Every time we come we are not disappointed. The staff are so sweet and the food always delicious. Highly recommend!!
A wonderful variety of sushi, everything is delicious no matter what you try. The Bay Island and the Snowman are particularly amazing. Service is excellent, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. I wish I wasn't just visiting friends in this town, I'd come here all the time!
My boyfriend showed me this place honestly a bit ago and I fell in love. It is sooo hard to find a spot that makes good sushi. Every now and then you may find a spot that its like "omg its so good!" But then next time your like "ummmm? Really this is what im getting?" But I have been to Rumble many many times and each time just a good. I have never been let down and love it! Polar bear roll super yummy! My favorite!! Took my mom here the other day for lunch and got the bento box and shes now hooked and doesn't want to go anywhere else. The prices are good, people are really nice, outdoor seating (still closed inside) and havent been let down once by them. Im very happy I found a killer sushi place.
5/5 stars! This restaurant is super great! I’ve been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and the quality hasn’t changed. They always have a lot of business and sometimes the wait is long but it is definitely worth the wait! I would recommend the chicken udon, fried gyoza, and unagi roll. The chicken udon comes with a salad. I also like the 3 item combination with rice, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, and shrimp tempura. The combination comes with a salad and miso soup. The waiters and waitresses are super friendly. They are willing to substitute the salad or miso soup for you - so just ask! The area is clean and comfy and is an amazing place to eat.
If there's one kind of food the Santa Cruz area is good for, it's sushi, and Rumble Fish is one of the best! Be prepared for big portions, fresh and juicy fish, and and a relaxed atmosphere! A little bit on the expensive side but well worth the price!
I always eat at Rumble Fish when I return to CA from Oregon. Oregon doesn't know how to make Spicy Ginger Pork! Owner, Lana @ Rumble Fish always making the rounds checking on customers to see everything is good with our food. Outside dining is always refreshing, heaters available. No indoor dining.
Currently (May 1 22) still takeout only but you can eat on their outdoor deck. Good Japanese fare, reasonable prices. Nice people…
Rumble Fish is the best local Sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz. Luna and her husband do a wonderful job! The fish is always fresh. Atmosphere is great for the family and I really like the Snowman Roll.
This was our first visit and definitely won't be the last. Online ordering was easy. Food was fresh and delicious. Many fun and different rolls we'll be working through in coming weeks.
The food here is great, they can get a bit swamped at times, but Luna makes it a wonderful place to go. She always stops and gives my son a hug, says hello and really makes you feel like you’re appreciated.
Very high quality fish and ingredients. Highly recommend.
My wife and I eat here once a week ; we love the friendly people, including the wonderful new owner, Luna , and her Chef husband...( new menu in the past four months )...! The serving staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful ~ never a bad attitude... The fish is always above average , and they have a great selection of rolls... Out of the three SV sushi spots, we think this is the best one ; better quality than the one up the road, and better service than the one down the road...!
Never disappointed with this place!!! Even my kids enjoy coming here and love the food. They have great deals on drinks daily. I love the baked and fried rolls my favorite would have to be the snowman and the Santa Cruz but there are so many others I like.
Food portion is huge (compare to Silicon Valley) and food is fresh. The service was great too, warmly but not overwhelming. Very recommended!
The golden gate roll is so good! Great service as well. Our order got mixed up one time & the owner or manager was quick to call back and correct everything. I know these are hard times for restaurants & I appreciate her taking the time to reach out to me.
Rumble Fish is the best sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz county. Rumble Fish offers the highest quality nigiri, with the hamachi melting as you eat it. The owner takes the time to get to know the regulars and will spend time catching up with them. Because they are the best, they are often busy. If you need a quick meal, this is not your restaurant.
Best sushi in the area! Been going there regularly for the last 5 years and always had a great experience. The fish is always fresh with generous portions, though slightly pricy. Service is always great. One of our favorite dinner spots!
Great sushi, our favorite place in the area. Great friendly service, fresh fish, tasty rolls.
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. They are very kind, greet you in Japanese, and know how to make some good grub. My favorite dish is the salmon katsu, which is lightly cooked, breaded salmon. They serve it with some thick slightly tangy soy sauce to dip it in. Very good. They also make great sashimi.
This is our favorite Sushi right now. It is reasonably priced the fish is fresh the service is very good and food is delivered to the table quickly. When visiting please remember that they do not accept cash only credit cards.
The fully cooked rolls are really good. It was so good we had to order again on Day 2 of our stay in Scotts Valley. We ordered the following: - Super California Roll - OMG - Santa Cruz - San Francisco Wish we live closer.
I like to rate restaurants by 5 items. Cleanliness, attentiveness, quick service, flavor and cost. They hit 5 stars on all of them. What a gem.
After about a year and a half of going without sushi, we've finally found a new hangout! We had a delicious lunch for a reasonable price and even had leftovers to enjoy later. At this time, Rumble Fish is packing all meals for take out/delivery and serving customers through a walk up window. They've reopened their patio for dining with several shaded tables, and they also have heat lamps for those chilly evenings. You can do an online order and it will be ready when you arrive. Staff is super courteous- the server even gave us a cupful of ice to keep our leftovers cold. It's a bit of a drive for us but well worth it and we feel like their COVID safety protocol allows us to feel secure enough to dine there. Can't wait to return.
I can't tell you much because I am vegetarian and don't eat fish, but it is a popular Sushi place for locals in Santacruz and Scotts Valley. Large portions and very nice service.
My wife and I absolutely loved this location. We stayed at a nearby hotel and grabbed lunch here one day. The wait was longer than a normal restaurant, but the food was a pleasant and enjoyable. It felt like a little hole in the wall. Great spot!
Great sushi joint with friendly staff & quick service. Portions are good & food is always delicious. Will be back again soon
Attentive staff and great food. The three of us shared edamame, a few rolls, and some sashimi. It was all very good, but the sashimi was excellent. Incredibley fresh.
Soooooo good. My table got a lion king roll, chicken teriyaki plate, unagi don, chicken karage, and a couple other dishes. We’ll be back if we’re in the area again. A gem in Scott’s Valley. The presumed owner, as far as I can tell, is kind and bubbly. I’m leaving this review while here lol.
the BEST sushi in town!! they have the best staff so friendly every time I go to another sushi place I regret it because they are just so good.
Great food, fast service, very friendly staff. To top it off, they make their own wassabi, you can taste the difference, the consistency isn't as smooth as the fake stuff. My number one sushi recommendation in Santa cruz county.
Always love dining here, even though it is often very busy. Great place for date night or as a sports bar, if you get the seats that view a screen. My husband ❤️ s that.
All of the food was really good. The outdoor patio was nice. Highly recommend the Warriors and the Aloha rolls.
I'm very impressed w the quality, sizes, prices, and overall value you get here. Yes, it is all still takeout which isn't always what you want. They have a cute outdoor area to eat. They have the BEST sashimi salad at such a great value. Just double check you have wasabi and chopsticks as those have been forgotten several times. I am overall very happy with this spot and will keep returning!
Every time I am here the food is amazing. I adore the staff and Luna and Mr.Kim are always friendly. I love being a customer and I loved my time working here. I will always come back when I get the chance. I highly recommend to anyone wanting an amazing Japanese food experience. Out of all the Japanese restaurants in Scott's valley I will not dine at any other that Rumble Fish.
After a round of golfing at De Laveaga, 4 of us from south bay stopped by Scott Valley for dinner on the way back. What a hidden gem! We enjoyed a great dinner here sitting in the patio. Tasty rolls, spicy fish rice bowl, combo plate of teriyaki beef and pork katzu and shrimp tempura, and Sake. Perfect finish for the golf outing. BTW, found out that the owner is a golfer from the picture at the hallway (next to the restrooms 😊
Came in for a quick lunch and ate outside on their patio. Staff was friendly and attentive. An incredible amount of choices including lunch specials. Good value in large rolls. My fried tofu was perfectly golden and light. Everything was fresh and served quickly. One of our many local sushi restaurants that we love.
I was truly impressed by this Japanese cuisine. Every dish was incredibly delicious and exceptionally fresh. The flavors were deeply authentic. Having been to Japan several times, dining at this restaurant made me feel like I was right back there. I’ll definitely be coming back — this place is a gem. ❤️
1st time, and it was great. Got there when fist opening and service was super. Food was very fresh and tasty. We will be back!
A great little sushi spot. The hamachi is always on point and their bentos are sizable. 2 dollar hot sake is a no brainer. TVs for sports. Small sushi bar. Outstanding service.
Great place for rolls. We loved our Harley Davidson rolls and spicy fish bowl. Great service and loved the outdoor seating. Will definitely come again
Stopped at RF for a quick lunch. It was delicious 😋 and a feast for the eyes. It's almost too beautiful to eat! We will be back soon!
I was very impressed with what I’d call hospitality that is unmatched. Our server Nessa was extremely patient with our large party of 12 which is always tricky. We were sending my niece off to study abroad dining in to some AWESOME sushi, some of us driving pretty far. We are humbly thankful for the accommodation and spectacular food. PS. I had the Ms Poggy Sushi adding in fried banana 🍌. YUM
Fully operational... Popular place. I love local restaurants in Scotts Valley. I think the sushi here is a bit better than the other place in town. Still love the food in the place. Don't hesitate to try it... Been coming there for years. The staff still remembers me by first name even though I'm not necessarily a regular. I always get shrimp tempura pan, fried pot stickers or gyoza. And also hibachi appetizer... Love the place. I'll add photos next time. I remember years ago they were AOI . Owners back then moved to Gilroy. Try it you'll like it
This is the single most extraodinary and fantastical food experience we've ever had. The sushi here is nothing short of excellent and works of art..
I have to admit I am very impressed. My hotel suggested I walk the .4 miles here instead of the place a few blocks away. The service was friendly and quick. The portion size is enormous, not to mention fresh, clean, and delicious. They handled my gluten and egg allergies with no issues. A++ will be back before I leave town.

Very nice food and nice service in the local jem we just found.
Been going here since I was 15! From the moment you walk in, the staff is welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home. The atmosphere is modern and relaxing, perfect for both a casual lunch or a special dinner. The sushi here is absolutely top-notch — super fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor!
Solid place for sushi and Japanese dishes. Great local atmosphere for gatherings and groups. Top not service always.
This is the best sushi in Santa Cruz and their prices are pretty reasonable for sushi.
We've been going here for years, and it is consistently *the best* quality sushi in our area. An excellent value - sushi's not inexpensive but you never feel like you're not getting your money's worth from them. The owner Luna and her crew are fun and friendly and always provide a welcoming atmosphere and great service. Two big thumbs up for this place!
Overall good lunch stop in an area with relatively few choices. Perhaps a first for me is that this review is in regards to the exceptionally warm and understated service that I received from the hostess when I came in as a single diner amongst several large groups. She sat me immediately and made a point to take my order when the main server was occupied taking care of the large groups. She had a wonderful smile and energy throughout. It truly turned a otherwise good experience to a great one. To the unnamed hostess working the lunch hour on a Friday, I hope that your management appreciates you and you see great success in your future.
One of my favorite sushi places ever. The Golden Gate roll is especially delicious. Rroom for a ♿ both inside and outside seating areas.

I like this place. The sushi is great. They are very busy so order ahead online and save 10%. The beer and booze is 50% off right now.
Excellent quick service, it may get a bit loud here during the most busiest hours. The traditional rolls are 6 pieces of fair average size. And the special rolls are very big.
Really love this place. My only issue is sometimes it smells a little fishy. I haven't had that before at other places. Another down side they took my favorite spicy ginger pork off the lunch menu and that's kinda disappointing but the owner is very sweet and I enjoy the food.
Only doing online ordering and pickup. They do have a small covered patio you can eat at. Really tasty sushi. Lots of food for the price. Easy online ordering system. Order was accurate with no missing food. Very busy, recommend ordering early.
A favorite Scotts Valley restaurant for years. I can't remember the original name, but this Japanese restaurant was the first in the area more than 25 years ago and was a novelty the time. When a UCSC administrator recently said we need to go to lunch and for me to pick the restaurant, I chose Rumble Fish knowing it would be a good experience. However, we both had economical bento boxes including miso soup, salad with great dressing, rice, and multiple main item choices. Everything was perfect. A neighbor likes their sashimi, but I unfortunately have not been very adventurous with their expansive menu - and that's another plus as Rumble Fish will please a wide range of eaters. No risk taking just about anybody to Rumble Fish. My most recent experience was not quite as good as in the past. It was dinner time, and the service was not very attentive. It was still tasty, but the portions have shrunk a bit as the price as gone up. The green tea was very weak. Not enough dressing on the salad - little details not quite right. Not the same attention to detail as in the past. They had a good crowd, but due to lack of sound treatment, the place is very noisy.
Went for a late lunch. Hot sake specials. Moderately priced, good quality sushi. Nice view. Friendly staff. Good happy hour specials. We'll go back.
Drove up to Scotts Valley specifically to get the best green lip muscles I have ever had, just to find out that they took them off the menu. The sushi was still very good, thus the 4 stars, but I will not go out of my way to go to Rumble Fish anymore, unless the put the green lip muscle appetizer back on the menu.
Great service and food in the area! Great spot to go for lunchtime for sushi combo or the bentos. This place does not take cash. Usual wait for online orders is around 15-20min.
This place we found by accident. We were in the mood for sushi and on our way home from Santa Cruz we gave this a try. PRO TIP: order before you get there. Food takes a while and they don't do Dine in. They do have seating but very limited. FOOD: Miss Piggy Baked Roll 10/10 this has bacon which was weird at first but honestly one of the best we've ever had. We had others which were good as well. SERVICE: The man that takes your order is a bit on the rude side but I dont think means to be. They also gave us free food which was in the end cool. I wish they had Dine in. Overa we will come back ans would recommend
This is my go to sushi place. The food is always excellent, and the prices seem very fair and reasonable. During nice weather I really enjoyed dining on the new outdoor patio. The service people are very nice and personable. I go back regularly.
First time here. Customers have the ability to order online and get a 10% discount. Unfortunately it didn't work on my phone. Staff said they'd had problems but wouldn't honor the discount. Fresh fish, fast service. Didn't go away hungry. Smaller patio area which was nice.
Good sushi, but it can be insanely busy. Tables can be a little too close and too small for some. Staff is friendly, but can forget parts of your order when they get overwhelmed with customers.
Great customer service. The sushi was all fabulous. I ordered seafood tempura and was surprised to see that it wasn't the light crispy batter but panko breaded instead. I'd had never had tempura breaded style before. The dining areas are relatively small and it did get pretty loud in there at one point but the overall quality of food and service was fantastic.
While visiting Scott's Valley, I came across Rumble Fish. Great menu! And the staff was very attentive. But I'm not sure what to do with the atmosphere. So much potential. The rolls are really good, with fresh fish and ingredients. Portions are dead on! Not too big or small. The albacore Sashimi was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place when you're in the area looking for sushi.

The food was good and the service friendly. Quiet when we stopped on Saturday for a late lunch.
Standard generic Japanese fare. Positives: large portions, plenty of parking, large outdoor seating area. Rice was well cooked, gyoza and California roll were well executed and tasty. Negatives: Our roll did not taste as fresh as other option in Scotts Valley, and the kastu was a bit dry and over cooked.
Their staff is friendly. I only had one bad experience where they forgot my roll, they brought it out on my way out when I no longer wanted it, no apology with it. I come back time to time, their food is good. I love the takoyaki.
Been here a number of times and the food is fantastic but the service has been pretty bad's last 2 times. Came here yesterday for lunch and the server forgot our order and I had to remind then 30 minutes later we still hadn't received our food.
I wish I could be more positive about Rumble Fish, but I'm often disappointed by something on my plate. A month ago it was Uni that wasn't very good. A few weeks later, it was both sashimi that wasn't that great and a house specialty sushi roll that came with an overly sweet sauce. Last night it was getting charged $6 extra for not serving fake crab in a roll that was listed on the menu as including Crab. One of the problems with Rumble Fish is that the wide variety of specialty sushi rolls are inadequately described on the menu. The one I didn't like was described as "special sauce," giving no clue as to its character. The menu is quite extensive, and there is something there for everyone -- IF you can figure out what it is. In addition to sushi and sashimi, there are quite a few traditional Japanese dinners. The beer selection is typically limited as in most Japanese restaurants, and my wife, a wine drinker, finds their wines unsatisfying. Service is friendly and accommodating, but not always very skilled. My impression is that many of the wait-staff are college students with a lot of turnover. The sushi chefs can also tend to be slow. The dining rooms are fairly large, but also tend to be noisy, so conversation can be difficult. Parking is easy in their own good sized lot.
They don't really have a reliable system for collecting your takeout order. Some people's names are called and not others, so you're supposed to figure out that you need to pester whoever's working the window at the moment to see if one of the waiting bags is yours. Don't order anything that needs to stay warm
Food was pretty good. Service very slow, they cared more about their takeout orders than the indining customers. Atmosphere terrible!! Basically you are eating in the middle of thier takeout operation.
Way too noisy inside, and the piped music outside is over the top. Not happy that we can't pay cash or split a bill without an extra charge. These things keep me from coming back very often.
We have reached the end with this place. After many years of providing great food and happy times, the wheels have come off. We were at a neighboring business yesterday and my wife said: should we try them one more time? We have tried to be patient and supportive during the pandemic, but they have given up even trying. In the last year, we have waited over an hour past the time they stated, and understood. We arrived once to find they had never receive the confirmed online order. We reorded and waited. No worries. Then, we picked up a $120 order, to unpack at home and find it was completely wrong. They apologized, said they'd make good on it...Our next order, they comped one appetizer. So last night, over the course of 20 minutes, we watched as 2 parties learned the food they were told would be ready had never been ordered, and one whose order was missing items. To eat there, you have to order to-go, and pre-pay. We realized we were missing the gyoza. This should have been very simple: I went back to the window...instead to saying: sorry, we'll take a of it, I had to go through three employees. The young lady who took my order finally walked over and said, dripping with attitude: I never received an order for gyoza... After pointing out that I watched her write it down, and reminding her that she had told me the correct name for the dish, I still had to tell her to pull the receipt to prove that yes, we had ordered them and paid for them. Then, and only then, did she realize she was mistaken, and finally produce the dish. No apology, just attitude. The food is actually still really good, when and if you get it.
The Food is normally delicious, not today… my baked roll wasn’t even warm plus the service needs help. It wasn’t busy only three customers! If you order on line Don’t forget to add this code if you want your 10% for ordering on line. They will not fix the discount at the window not cool. The beer is flat and tasted gross 🤔 we will never return we use to be regulars…. Sad
Friendly, quick service but unfortunately the food was terrible. Look at the picture of the sashimi. Um, sashimi is supposed to be thin nice evenly sliced pieces not huge chunks of fish that need to be cut up on one’s own. So strange. Quality was meh and tasted terrible. What a waste as I couldn’t eat it. California roll wasn’t much better. The Nori was wilted and made it impossible to eat and the avocado was hard and again, thick chunks. Apparently the sushi chef doesn’t know what they’re doing here. Even the miso soup had a strange taste. Side salad had large pieces of spring mix that weren’t cut up so they were difficult to eat, especially with chopsticks. Expensive waste of money and food. At least they had outdoor dining and allowed dogs.

Doordash deactivated my account cuz I waited for the order more then 40 minutes... thank you...
The sweet potatoes fries were wet and soggy. Horrible. I just threw them away. The sushi was just ok. Nothing great. Won’t return.
