Opinions de Trout Farm Inn Felton
We really love to eat here and the place has been totally upgraded and has a fireplace & there's a pool out in the back. There's a nice bar & outside seating and a complete renovation was done here a little while back. The first time here we had the huevos rancheros which was amazing and we added a photo of it here. Great ingredients rich flavors and we are back again having the California Benedict. The staff has been very friendly and inviting. We love coming here and found another great reason to come back. Their staff is amazing and Beth who is on her 1st day went way above and typical Service levels. 12/20/25 - just had a wonderful huevos rancheros brunch on an inclement day. The fireplace made the experience very nice. The service again was great and the menu was just uploaded today to this review. Enjoy!
The Trout Farm is a great place to hang out with friends, enjoy the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains and have some great food. From the Tequila Lime Salmon entree to the creatively diverse burger choices, the food is yummy. If you're lucky enough to be there on a live music night, so much the better!
The updates were super nice, we went for dinner their first weekend. Everyone was super nice and attentive. Drinks and food were great. Excited to try more things on the menu.
We love it here! Family friendly with amazing food, service and drinks!
This place is so nice and relaxing I went there this past Saturday with friends in the evening. The owners are nice folks super easy to talk with, and the atmosphere is just simply awesome, I’m so looking forward to another visit to this little hidden gem 💎!! Oh and I forgot to add that there is this delicious frozen drink call a Paloma so soo sooo refreshing, man I wish I was sippin on one right now!!
Had a great day at the trout farm pool! Mai tai’s are the best in town
First visit since they reopened some time ago. Very good atmosphere, comfortable ambiance for drinks before dinner, good food.
Beautifully designed, clean and well stocked drink cooler! Cabanas are not $25 each…..they are $25 each per hour! Not well communicated.
Good starters, drinks, and entree. No room for dessert on this visit. Good service as well. I will be back, but not too often due to price. Good value for the quality, but high price for the area. Overall I am so happy to have the new Trout Farm. Thank you!
Great staff, wonderful service Compliments to Chief Sebastian. I had the beef tacos ,great flavor so good My husband had the fish and chips. Large portions very happy with everything
Upscale dining and drinks in the redwoods. We only had appetizers this time, but we are excited to return for the main course. Maybe the sure catch pond will be open by then. Wait staff and owners are friendly and attentive.
We absolutely love this place. Service is friendly and professional. Food is delicious, cocktails wonderful and desserts sublime. They just had AC added so that’s an extra bonus. Can’t wait to try them for brunch!!!
Came to spend an afternoon at the pool and loved it! Warm water, buoyant floaties so you can stay in the water, plenty of seating, delicious drinks and pretzel, great vibe overall. Would 100% return
Tasty food and cool place for a drink. Service was great and staff was friendly
I’m not joking when I tell you this, the food here is some of the best. It is so good, everything from the meatloaf to their mac and cheese is spot on impressive. The owners are so friendly and the environment is incredible! I will frequently be back
Man they have kicked this place up about 10 notches! Cool Casual and a pool with cabanas. Great staff! Good Food. Beer 30 Beer Mule now Trout Farm. (Beer Run 2023).
I have lived in SLV all my 50 years and experiencing the re-birth of the Trout Farm is such a joy. The food is really good and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
Love this place! The food and drinks are great. The pool vibe and frozen palomas are fantastic!
Food was really good and out if the ordinary - eapecially the mustard-crusted salmon. Seems that whatever service issues they had earlier have been solved - our service (on a busy Saturday night) was prompt and attentive.
Very good food! It's been awhile, but I feel like it's better than before the fire. The more modern interior is inviting, service is stellar, and overall it was great. Last time I was there, the server apologized because they had to remake my food since it wasn't perfect. When it came, it was phenomenal (trout benedict). Thank you chef for maintaining such high standards!
Wow!!! What an awesome experience. Love the transformation of this property. Inviting and nice done decor. Food great. We had a tasty burger and the mac cheese. We will be back. Check out the Trout Farm soon.
What a lovely surprise! We took a business associate to dinner and from the moment we walked in we were wow’d. I lived near the TF as a young adult and what we walked into last night was anything but what I remembered. The decor caught my eye right away..def. A social club vibe and we loved it. Intimate, a little sexy feel but also relaxing and unpretentious. Beautiful furniture, big open spaces. Our server was exceptional. Greeted us and shared she would be right back. Took our order perfectly and was very attentive throughout the evening. Our meals were large portions…including the steaks and cuts of fish. Everyone’s food was cooked as requested and delightful to enjoy. We will definitely be back! Way to go Trout Farm Team!!!
Been twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. The interior redesign is lovely. Staff was very attentive. Recommend the artichoke dip and the fried chicken sandwich. Not sure if it’s because it was a soft open but it has not been busy either time I visited.
While some locals may not appreciate the high-end vibe of the new Trout Farm, I find it a refreshing change. Given the cost of living here, it's nice to have local places that match this level of quality. If you prefer a more laid-back "Cheers" type of place, you might want to check out Joe's in Boulder Creek or Empire Grill in Felton. The Trout Farm aims for a more refined experience. I've been there once for lunch and the tacos were great. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but that's pretty standard for this area and for California as a whole. Mostly, I'm just glad we have more choices for places to eat out around here.
We stopped here for a late lunch, to see how the new iteration is... excellent hamburger, good variety of craft beer and cocktails, nice patio. Inside seemed harshly noisy, like they need to add quite a bit of sound damping to the walls and ceilings. 3-5 they have a very abbreviated menu, it's lunch before 3 and dinner after 5.
I am so glad I chose TF for my birthday spot. We had perfect weather, view of pond, our server was great all around the best food and cocktails. We will be back
We visited Trout Farm Inn today for the first time since its renovation. What a lovely experience! We went for lunch on a weekday, and sat outside on their lovely, dog friendly patio. The inside of the restaurant and the bar area both looked amazing, but since the weather was nice, we opted for outside under the lovely oak trees and babbling stream. Our waiter, Nathan, was outstanding. And the food was awesome. We tried their famous hot pretzel as an appetizer and it was delicious. I had their burger, and my companion had fish tacos. Both dishes were wonderful. They had a great selection of beers on tap as well as an extensive cocktail menu. We highly recommend Trout Farm Inn and we'll be back to try Sunday brunch and dinner outside as the weather warms.
Best quality food in Santa Cruz county . I just got back from Europe and the only food here I’ve tried that matches the quality is trout . Eat here it’s really good .
I used to go to the Trout Farm years ago before the new ownership. I loved it then, but it's so much better now. The food is consistently good and so is the service. Not all restaurants are able to maintain such consistency between time of day and staff. I hope the new owners know how great their staff are, great, consistent staff are so hard to find and maintain in the restaurant industry. Kudos to the chef, cooks, and wait staff for maintaining such great food and atmosphere.
The food, drinks, service, and ambiance were splendid. Food portions were generous, and everything was fresh and economically priced. This is a great place to bring family and friends for lunch, dinner, swimming, etc. I would suggest making reservations because these folks know how to make each customer feel special, and they are really good at it.
Hands down my favorite place in time. First discovered for my sisters post wedding celebration. It's a on of a kind vibe, pool area is like no other place in town. Love the chicken Picata, burgers & variety of incredble cocktails. The ambiance & warm welcoming atmosphere keeps my family coming back. So happy to have place in town! Would highly recommend for date nights or fun family nights out.
I have been to the Trout Farm many times. The ambiance is great. The bar area is super fun and they have a great wine list. The cocktails are exceptional and not over priced. I hosted my 50th birthday there and the staff took such good care of us and went above and beyond to make sure my friends had the best time. Obviously I had the trout on one visit, and it was spectacular. A must try!
My hubby and I are locals, born and raised. It's so nice to have a watering hole with a pool for those hot summer months up here out of town! I do think it's a strange that people bring their young children to an environment that centers heavily on alcohol, especially the pool area. There are plenty of family friendly places to swim in the valley, and it's so nice to have an adult option to beat the heat on the days that kids aren't there. This is not the fault of the Trout Farm, just an observation and maybe a heads up to people who don't want to have small children and babies mixed in with their poolside cocktails. We ate lunch there today, everything was great but I forgot my bag when we left and the lovely bartender with the beautiful red hair ran out to the parking lot to catch me before I left!! What an angel, I'm so sorry I didn't get her name but she went above and beyond and I have a feeling that's just how she is. So overall love this place, great food and great atmosphere, and an extra thanks to the bartender who saved me today! ❤️
Enjoyed the lovely patio overlooking the creek after waiting just a short while for a table. We enjoyed waiting at the bar while a Giants game was on tv. The bartender was friendly and made a couple great drinks. Seated above the creek is completely separate from the pool area. We would love sitting inside near fireplace in the winter! Our server was friendly, kept waters filled. Food came quickly and tasted great. This is a hidden gem of a spot and we felt like we were very far from home - and we live 10 min away.
Yoga 10am Sundays by the pool is such a great escape.. Happy hours 3-5 I hear by the pool are available! But now it's a Pitstop before getting back to the grind. The prosciutto sandwich is so good!
This place is absolute perfection, it’s fun, it’s flirtatious, it’s comfortable. The food is so good, without being pretentious in price. If you are looking for your every Wednesday girls night group dinner/drink night, or every Friday after- work group retreat, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!! “Cheers!”
My partner and I have been here about three times: at the bar, brunch and dinner. Each experience has been fantastic. We haven’t been for Saturday night music but we will for sure be coming back. We’re excited to be living next to such a beautiful spot! Favorite dish so far has been the California Benedict at Brunch. Delicious! Pictures are from our time at dinner, brunch, and at the bar.
Amazing atmosphere and the food! To die for! Staff were wonderful! Lisa thank you so much💙how do you make that blue cheese? That salad was delicious!
This place is simply gorgeous! We were traveling for the holidays and stumbled upon this place because they are dog friendly. We got lucky! Cocktails are superb. Food is amazing! Desserts are heavenly. Beautiful location too!
I used to come to The Trout Farm since I was little. It has changed and been upgraded for the most part. They had a pretty awesome DJ for 4th of July weekend, DJ Wyze1 he's a really good DJ played Reggae and a laid back mix. he's actually Locally Grown, SCHS was in the house! Nice people working there and speedy service. I didn't try the food this time so that's why I didn't rate that. This is a great spot to go esp when it's cloudy in SC it's always hotter up in Zayante. Go make great memories like I did and check it out! I want to do a yoga class in the morning next time.
Hung out here for a day with some friends and had a great time. The pool is super clean and a great place to hang out in a really cool mountain setting amongst the redwoods, the staff is friendly and the food was good (we just got some pretty basic poolside food from the lunch menu, we cannot speak to the dinner menu). It might be nice to offer a membership as $25 per day per person did seem a bit steep. They did do a happy hour special from 3-6 pm however (I think those were the hours) where you got pool entry plus an included drink for $20. Will go back for dinner someday - the inside seemed super classy. Hopefully the food quality can match that vibe. Overall we loved the place and will be going back somewhat regularly, even more regularly if they’d offer a membership Example: $50 a month gets you $5 pool entry for yourself and one guest + 1 guest pass per month. Would only take 2-3 trips to Trout Farm to pay off. And is a nice way for the business to get some steady income.
Everyone's food was delicious, the drinks were beautiful and delightful, and our server Callum was amazing. The ravioli entrée rotates, and today (August 17th, 2024), it was a vegan ravioli that was to die for. The crème brûlée made by Callum was by far the best crème brûlée I've ever had. Absolutely perfect. Such a pleasant end to a pleasant experience. We sat outside, and while we didn't mind them too much it might be worth bringing some dryer sheets to deter the bees and yellow jackets. But hey, when you're in such a gorgeous, natural, forested environment how are you gonna get too mad at co-existing with a few insects? I'm excited to go back! I definitely want to try the indoor seating in the Winter when we go back (hopefully near the fireplace, but the bar and lounge-y area looks very comfortable too)!
Food was great! Went with a group and everything we ordered was tasty. Would recommend the fried chicken sandwich. The kombucha was great and was even better to look at! Served in a tall glass with a purple to pink gradient, a fresh black berry and mint. Great place for a date, or lunch. Will be back to try out the pool for sure!

Very welcoming staff. The pool is nicely heated even in January. The showers get hot! The food is delicious. A great experience.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with the service after reading some reviews but it was great! We went on a Thursday afternoon for pool and snacks. Christina was handling the entire pool area and she did so with friendliness, humor, and grace. Pool was clean and perfect temperature. Bathrooms and changing areas were clean. Food hit the spot. Setting is gorgeous. We’ll definitely be back.
Always love the Trout Farm for breakfast after our saturday walk with the walking group. This time three of us ordered California omelets. One friend can't have gluten and they offered to sub out her toast for gluten free. Another friend ordered the breakfast burrito and another one went with the french toast. What sets this place apart, as far as breakfast places in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is their excellent presentation - food is plated artfully. Drinks, as well. Even your coffee feels special. They serve a rich, dark coffee with you're own ceramic creamer. It just feels elevated. Sit on the patio, if you can. They have a lovely awning to keep the sun off of you and you'll overlook a small pond/stream and lovely trees. Very picturesque - and dog friendly. One thing we are all sad about - they are no longer offering their signature cinnamon rolls. It's honestly the main reason I dream about this place! People: these are the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. They are soft, chewy, sweet and buttery with the perfect blend of cinnamon. They are labor intensive, we were told, so they're no longer on the menu. Hoping they bring them back - if only for special occasions. 🙏🏼🙌🙏🏼 This place is good for brunch - only served on the weekends - and lunch and dinner, daily. It's such a great space. The vibe is very relaxing and beautiful. Like a restaurant at a resort. The food is solid, all around. Go! You're in for a treat!

Beautiful scenery and furniture. The burgers are an A+ super filling. The prices are good for the great portions. I couldn't finish my plate, took it home. Definitely recommend
Great ambiance and service. A welcome addition to the lackluster SLV restaurant scene. Best fried calamari I've had in ages. It was clearly made from scratch. Lovely cocktails.
The food is great. They are excelling on the appetizer, meal and drink menu, although, need to add a childrens menu and veggie burger. Service is lacking. Could not get the waitress attention for 20 minutes. .. 2 entrees were missing from the table. Made it awkward. The bill was split and when she charged the cards they were all wrong. She couldn't figure out how to correct Also - include salt and pepper on the table and ketchup so no one has to wave their arms for 15 minutes
The food is good but it’s too expensive and fancy for us Mountain folk. We just want a place that feels like Cheers. Also the second time we went the service was not existent. Twice we went and asked for ketchup and ranch and took 10 min or got forgot about even though it was slow. No refills on drinks and they pack it full of ice. Still the view is awesome.
It’s amazing to see this place thriving after so many years. That being said, there is some room for improvement. I would avoid the smoked trout chowder unless you are prepared for an hour of picking out fish bones. We also ordered the special KC Ribs which were great but we were immediately covered with yellowjackets - so if you order those don’t eat outside in the sun. The carrot cake is great, but our crème brûlée was not fully cooked and maybe their vanilla needs to be a higher quality or they could add amaretto? Also I only tried the lemon pop, but it missed the marked completely, hopefully all their expensive cocktails aren’t this bad or they should get a new bartender.
Our first time there a few days ago. Lunch was good, I really liked the atmosphere. The pool is Beautiful! We talked to the lady that was working at the pool booth, she was really nice. We'll be returning for dinner next time. Great to have a place like this close to home.
We met friends for brunch. We were 1st time patrons. The food was really good. We sat outside and the atmosphere was nice and laid back. We will be coming back. I didn't like the fact that only food for 2 of us was brought out and the other 2 had to wait for theirs and someone came to pick up our plates but only took 2 plates when she asked if she could take them all away. All she had to do was stack the other 2 plates. Overall a good experience.
Oh, the Trout Farm was lovely, with trees up above, A place full of charm that you just want to love. The outside was peaceful, the view was a win, I walked in with hope and a big hungry grin. The food? It was great — I’ll give them their due. Each bite hit the mark, and the drinks did too. But the inside? Oh no… it just missed the mark, Like a lunchroom that never quite found its spark. It felt kind of cold, a bit thrown together, Not cozy, not warm — more cafeteria than clever. A makeover’s needed, or a new set of eyes, To match all the beauty that sits right outside. Now the service — oh boy. It was slow, slow, slow. So slow, in fact, that time seemed to go. Our waiter was kind, but clearly quite new, And every review said the same thing too. You’ll wait for your food, you’ll wait for your drink, You’ll wait long enough to just sit there and think. The owner was there, but oddly aloof, With all of the staff rushing under one roof. They hustled and scrambled and did what they could, But one extra hand would have really do. For prices that high and portions that small, You’d hope for more polish, more rhythm, more all. Still, the meal was quite good, and the setting’s a plus, It just needs some love — not a whole lot, just thus. So here’s my review, with a soft little chime: A beautiful place… if you’ve got the time.
Trout Farm had such good food and drinks! I’d love to come back and hang by the pool. Some items were out of stock by the time we ordered but what we did eat was really good. Mushrooms were my fave! Worth a try!!

I really enjoy the atmosphere by the pool and sadly the service here is really poor. Unfriendly service each time I have come (been about 4 times).
Been going to the Trout Farm since I was 3, so it has a special place in my heart! But the new prices are a bit too high for me to go there as a regular spot. Our waiter was great and the ambiance was nice, however $8 extra dollars to add chicken to something is a little much
Very nice interior and unreliable service. Tried 3 times. But sorry to say not going back. Food is good, but prices a bit high for the quality. 2 times wjen we went the salmon dish not fully cooked. Great place to get a cocktail in the bar if you sit at the bar. May get ignored if you sit at a table. I really want this place to make it and wish it was better.
The food was good but the service was terrible. It took us 40 minutes to get our drinks from the bar! There was a computer problem but we were there with a toddler. They offered us free dessert which we had to take home. Not a pleased dining experience. Do not come here with children!
Went to the pool. Was $30..😳. Seems a bit cray.. vibes were good, water was warm. No sauna, hot tub or cold plunge I could see.
We were starving. Entered the place at 2pm, we were served 3.43 pm. It took them 1 hour 43 minutes to bring the food on our table. Appetizer was served 1 hour 20 minutes later. Front desk service isn’t welcoming at all. She told me we don’t accept walk-ins! (As I am visiting a doctor’s office not a restaurant). she said we only accept reservations. I walked outside and someone said just do reservation on the webpage. I did an I got a spot, walked in back and the front desk told me, you need a reservation, I said I made it online. She said I will see what I can do. Place was only %60 percent full. Then we were only 3 tables and they served food almost in 2 hours. On the other hand Jordan our server apologized several times for delay. I guess they didn’t have the cook in the kitchen or it was a shift change. Place is nice, decorated nicely but front desk and service needs to be more welcoming and improved.
Back of house here is amazing! Food was awesome and would highly recommend the Classic Eggs Benedict! Front of the house service is slow and almost non-existent. Feels like the servers don’t even want to be here. Took forever to get service while they were obviously standing around the server station waiting to be directed to help our table.

the service is horrible. the owners just sit there like a deer in the headlight. it's pretty pathetic. this place has potential but with the crappy service they offer it won't go long
Very Disappointed at the changes in this Restaurant. It use to have delicious Trout and really good food. It now has changed into more hamburger hotdog and Steak menu not the good food it once served. I miss seeing the Pond of Trout .. Now it is just overgrown green over the water.. no fish. Bread is no longer served with the meal. It has gone from really nice to at the best a place to bring your kids to swim and have a hamburger. Will not be going back.
It’s the kind of place that puts free refill next to the soda on the menu, and then tells you it was a typo. They still charged me even though it was their mistake.
Staff at the pool were rude and unhelpful, creating a negative experience. When we raised concerns, they insisted they were right. Despite spending nearly $500, we were denied an extra towel, claiming a one-towel-per-person limit, though some in our party had none. Poor attitudes throughout; our group of nine won’t return.
Gave it several (at least 10) chances since it reopened because it's the closest restaurantand bar to my house. Over priced drinks and food for what you actually get. Mostly distracted service. Overdone concept consistently/poorly executed and in the wrong location for what it's"trying" to be.. Not local friendly.... seems to be looking to attract trendy customers from elsewhere with overpriced hype and not good enough food or drink or service to back it up. Won't be back until it changes ownership again... then I'll give it another shot.
Service was good and there was comfy seating, but my optimism appears misplaced. The acoustics in the bar area were annoying - so much reverberation! You could hear every conversation but your own. $9 beer and the most over-breaded, toughest, chewiest calamari I’ve ever had. I’m not in Iowa y’all. Folks cooking should know how to cook $18 calamari. The electric lemonade (N/A) that my spouse got was also $9, which is kinda nutty. It was just lemonade with some kind of violet color dripped in it. The pretzel was solid, but it should be the most amazing one I’ve ever had for $14. I’ll be driving over quail hollow to Henflings from now on.
It’s a beautiful place, and the food is good, but the last two times I’ve been, the service has been very slow. It seemed like they might have been having issues with the WiFi or something as everyone was complaining about it. My kids were getting really impatient with the wait, which definitely affected the overall experience, and it wasn’t just me who noticed the delays. There’s also a waitress who doesn’t seem to follow the standard uniform and wears low-cut tops, making it feel more like Hooters than a family restaurant. It’s important to maintain a proper dress code like the rest of the team. They also need to should tie up their hair, as I once found a hair in my food. The food was great, but if the service doesn’t improve, I won’t be coming back.
Food has always been good here, just wish the back of the house and front of the house could come together. The poor staffing represents deep issues. Felt bad for the server who struggled to keep up with the demands (which weren’t much) definitely not interested in going back any time soon
I have been coming here since 1978, and I've known many of the past owners and their staff. It was a really great neighborhood restaurant. The food and service is good now also, but is much more expensive. I now feel a bit blindsided when their unexpected service charges appear on my bill. This never happened before. It is petty. I want to enjoy these special times with my friends and family and not have to review my invoice as if I were double checking my tax returns. Their spurious charges are a form of dishonesty. Their pool now charges $25/day per person... Really! Why not make it $100 per day...This goes beyond everyday capitalism. This is my home here. It is not Malibu.... I feel like I am being played.
Would really love to give this five stars, the food Was wonderful and bar was great, but after 2 visits, we found the “food service” absolutely horrible. ALTHOUGH EXCEPTIONALLY NICE, THE WAIT STAFF ARE VERY INEXPERIENCED, WITH NO TRAINING IN FOOD SERVICE WHATSOEVER. On our first trip, we waited 45 minutes just to order while the staff stood around talking. There were multiple errors in our orders. Yesterday, our dinner plates were brought out within 2 minutes of our salads. Not one of us had even taken a bite of our salad yet. The waiter seemed utterly confused when I pointed out the dinners should wait at least 10 minutes. After having our table piled high with food plates from the appetizer, salads and dinners for 4, no one came to take our plates for at least half an hour. I hope they keep trying to improve, they have so much going for them.
We were excited about trying a new place, but unless the front of house gets better we won't go back. We were seated right away. But after that service went down hill. No one came back to our table to take our orders for quite some time. We had to ask to give our order and then there seemed to be confusion about who would take our table. Once we ordered drinks came out so late we'd forgotten we'd ordered them. They came out after our appetizer. The waiter mentioned bringing individual plates to share the appetizer, but never did. After food was brought out we were only checked on at the end of the meal. Staff was polite but quiet and unfriendly, as if they were upset we'd arrived for lunch. The kitchen seemed to run well. Food was fast, delicious and plated beautifully. After all this, top was included in the bill, which we hadn't seen mentioned on the menu. We found the experience sad and even the great food didn't make up for the lack of service.
5 of us walked into the restaurant about 4PM on a Sunday. There are several areas to sit down to eat. The bar area looked roomy and comfortable. There is a patio area overlooking a creek and there is a dining area that was empty. When we were asked if we had reservations, our answer was no. We just finished having a meeting and were hungry. The attitude by the host was not inviting, but after a few minutes, we were seated. While there for the hour having our meals, maybe 3 more couples sat in the dining area. Food was average, but the "fish and chips" is not recommended. There was hardly any fish due to the excessive breaded crust. For the 5 of us, there was a 25% "service charge". Just saying.
Trying really hard to be a high end establishment, but not succeeding. Lots of flies buzzing around. Seems like they're trying to appeal to the upper crust or something, not the locals... Drink prices are a bit off-putting. Would be a great place to hangout and build community, watch sports but that doesn't seem to be the vibe they're going for.
I want to like the place. Great location wonderful ambiance. Food is pretty good but the service is god awful. I have been twice. Twice they have messed up my order. They also don’t tell you about the food. After the messed up meal I ordered a cheese cake. She brings it and neglected to tell me it’s covered in jam. I don’t like jam. I asked for a new slice. She brings me one much smaller than the previous one, the previous one was falling apart and the tip was missing. Can ya’ll pay attention to the order and food your bringing out and talk about the food so that diners can know what they’re ordering?
Made reservations for six for a birthday celebration. I opted not to bring a cake as they charge $3.50 per person. Was told there was complimentary ice cream with a candle for the birthday person. We were seated, ordered, and waited quite a while before some of the food arrived. No mention of our birthday reservation or offer for dessert. Waitress never checked to see if we needed boxes for left overs, I had to ask for one. To be fair they were busy, but communication needs to be better between staff. Expected better service for the prices they're charging. We've lived in the area for over 25 years. The old Trout Farm was much more appropriate for the area, I guess our neighborhood is becoming much more upscale. We're retired and this restaurant has moved out of our price range. Won't be going back.
Trout Farm Inn has a nice pool and everything else is alright at best. We reserved a premium cabana for a group of friends and were a bit disappointed with the stained couch cushions and slow service. We tried to order food and were told to wait a while because the kitchen was too backed up. There’s nothing wrong with the food they offer, but the prices are kind of high when you are also paying for access to the pool and $9 - $16 per drink. Overall, we spent about $100 a head and were left thinking next time we’ll just go to the beach. There is no hot tub. Their mandatory 20% gratuity makes sense — I don’t think many people would voluntarily tip that high for the service they received here.

I found plastic in my meatloaf leftovers (see photo). I emailed Trout Farm Inn separately to let them know and haven’t heard back in two weeks. I never leave reviews, even for restaurants I don’t like, but I figured this is something that needs to be known because plastic in food is a hazard. Besides the plastic, the food itself wasn’t disgusting or anything but was painfully average. The meatloaf was plain and the vegetables on the side were completely undercooked. The fish sandwich wasn’t flavorful. Overall disappointing and not worth the money. Finding plastic in the food the next day was the nail in the coffin for us not going back.
I have visited this place twice, simply if you are Latin I recommend not going, they disguise very well not wanting Spanish-speaking people there
So we regular this spot with my disabled black friend who has a service dog - new lady that we've never seen before is the hostess, she has one look at my friend and his service dog and immediately asks- "what service does your animal provide" my friend is missing a leg from a terrible accident. Goes without saying we didn't feel welcome and decided to dine elsewhere. Y'all should fire this lady, unbelievable.
Used to go here not long ago and spent $5-$10 per person and spent a lot of money on food and drinks. Went here today, Now it’s $25 per person and no outside drinks/food aloud. I paid the price to see what the big difference is. I understand Covid has changed a lot of things including sanitary protocols, but honestly it’s really just chlorine. If you want to make money from the bar/food then maybe make it a little more easily accessible by not charging $100 per family to enter. Imagine bringing your kids here on a hot day and with easy snacks to keep them occupied and hassle free….then a crew memeber makes me tell my kid that eating isn’t allowed and that we must wait 30+minutes for some food that we will have to spend even more money on. This is honestly selfish of them to think this way. Honestly it’s a let down that they want to gauge the prices that high for standing water and expect/ force people to eat and drink their food ONLY! Be aware that this is strictly enforced and you will not be able to bring anything of your own unless it’s water…maybe. Oh , and you will be asked by the owners to give them $1,500 for a membership because it’s oh so worth it.
We have been coming here for a while and all of a sudden it’s terrible. They don’t even allow life jackets for extra protection for little kids while we were watching them and on top of it they weren’t even nice telling us we can’t. We are definitely not renewing our membership. Just go to elks lodge at this point.
I loved the old trout farm and was super excited to see it reopened. I tried to go today with my mom and my 2 high school aged teenagers, the turned us away saying they were at capacity and would not let any more "kids" in. I said only my son wants to swim and was told the only chairs they had were in the shade, I replied that's ok its hot today and we'd love the shade and he still told us no. As we were leaving we saw other groups walk up and we're not turned away. I'm not sure why we couldn't come in and enjoy the sun but it was so rude and we felt singled out. Definately not the accommodating feel that the old trout farm felt like.
Not the same feel as it use to have . Incredibly overpriced and pretentious. The waitstaff are sweet and professional, but it’s no longer a place for us blue collar workers who want to relax during the summer. I wish the owners the best , but this breaks my heart .
My brother had a going away party for us and the owner would not let us in, after letting everyone else in behind us. She was very rude and this is terrible customer service. DO NOT GO HERE!
A friend and I ordered hamburgers. They were dry, poorly cooked, and bland. I paid $87 for two burgers I would not have wanted if they were free. I told the waitress; she seemed unconcerned. Not a good place.
DISASTER - 90 deg. day and it took over 20 minutes to get my beer order as I baked in the sun. But the place was empty! They just didn't care I was dying of thirst and broiling. After 35 minutes and unhappy kids and adults both, my fancy expensive fish sandwich arrived. Grilled Rock Cod on brioche turned out to be an absurdly tiny piece of tasteless fish on a small bun. The fish covered less than 1/2 the bun, it was laughable. Everyone left hungry. The fancy lemonade disappointing, the sage wisdom is a refreshing drink, everything else disaster.
Way too expensive/too many intense and crazy rules now. It cost a small fortune $300 for pool entry and food and drinks for two adults and a child. That alone is utterly ridiculous and then to deal with the rude staff and outrageous rules. Why would we subject ourselves to that treatment when we are paying very high prices to enjoy a space in the mountains with mediocre food? Worst part was that we went for my friends bday who cancelled altogether due to the way she was treated, I see why.
I've heard mixed reviews about this place and first impressions make a difference and they really need to step up the customer service. I went for a relaxing time on Sunday to do yoga. After yoga your purchase comes with access to the pool. This was my first time there and the signs weren't very clear and I didn't know where to go. I asked an employee for help and mid conversation a women employee/ manager (clearly she was in charge in some capacity) rudley interrupts our conversation and tells the employee to "get back to work." I responded with, "this is my first time here so I wanted some information..." then she interrupts me mid sentence saying that they're setting up because the place is opening now @11 and they aren't done setting up. Mind you this particular woman had been doing yoga right next to me for the last hour. They clearly need to be more proactive and figure out setup logistics and transitions if they're going to host a function right up again opening hours. Also their lack of preparation doesn't justify being treated so rudely. Or it could be a case of I wasn't the "right type" of person to be there. Whichever the reason there isn't any excuse to be that rude to any patron who was simply asking for help, naturally due to the unwelcoming environment I left. I hope management can resolve this.
I will likely not be returning here because the experience we had today was so bad, even though I have enjoyed Trout Farm in the past. First the waiter brought an incorrect kids meal, despite us correcting him when he read the order back wrong. Then we waited more than an hour for our entrees. It was egregious for how few people were there. There was also a strung out patron at the bar continually following women (including myself) into the restroom who very clearly should have been asked to leave. Even the waitstaff seemed uncomfortable but nothing was done. We packed up our food and left once it finally arrived. Disappointed by such poor treatment from an otherwise nice option in the valley.
The service is insanely slow. Mostly because the staff just chats with each other. Overpriced food. Last time I went there was a black pubic hair in my Mac n cheese. We won’t be coming back.
had dinner here for mother’s day with my family. unfortunately it was pretty bad. i get being busy, understaffed, or behind in the kitchen. seems as if the whole place is under managed and there is no training for the staff. food was ok, we were very hungry after waiting 1 hr 30 for our food from ordering, which took 30 minutes from when we sat, so over 2 hours for a subpar meal which was way overpriced. as a local i want to love it, unfortunately we’ve tried many times and its never worked out. hope they get some better management, they need it!
As a local resident that has lived up Zayante from the restaurant for the last 37 years, I desperately want the Trout Farm to succeed. We have eaten there several times with mixed experiences. Obviously, the bar and pool are sustaining it. We had the worst service experience in my entire life last Sunday. We received our food two hours after arriving. There were no attempts by the staff to explain. They then had the gall to automatically put a 20% tip on the bill!!! (Yes, we had a party of 7) Again, with no apology or offer to comp anything. Wake up, management, and either get your act together or just expand your bar into the restaurant space. Right now it is an absolute waste of time and money. You permanently lost local patrons last week.
Asked to leave after just ordering beer. We had food and was just having beers with a friend, soon after delivering a beer they asked us to leave as they had bookings. This was despicable way to treat people, give your guest notice and don't serve them a beer and them ask them to leave soon after. Server was really nice, but management are outrageously disrespectful. Been visiting bars and restaurants around the globe for 30 years and this was the first time I've ever been asked to leave with a full beer I was just served.
Booked a table for 5 for 6pm. Arrived at 5:55pm it’s now 6:05pm and we’ve been stood here at the “Please wait to be seated sign” for 10 minutes without any of the 5 staff who have walked past acknowledging us. I will update with Food review but likely 1 star across the board as you’ll find better service in a McDonald’s. (Updated, waited a further 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging a booked party of 5, we’re local, not out of town.) If you’re desperate, sure. If not, take the time you’ll spend being ignored and drive to Lago Di Como where Giovanni and Mateo will treat you like royalty.
Check your bank statement after dining here! The restaurant overcharged my credit card without my authorization. I both called and emailed the restaurant to figure out how that happened and correct it. They didn't get back to me and I had to handle it through my bank.
This place is very selective; they clearly have a vision of who they want to be there without legally being able to discriminate. They also really don’t like kids, and they’ve got a ton of ridiculous rules to adhere to in the hopes that you’ll give up and not come with kids at all. My mom friends and I went here with our little kids/babies. First we accidentally sat to breastfeed on some lounge chairs that were apparently reserved so they told us we couldn’t sit on these chairs. Fair enough, although some signage would have been nice. Then, they proceeded to let us know that there is no glass allowed by the pool and reached IN to my friends PURSE that was sitting on top of her stroller away from the pool to grab out her glass jar of water. This man did not ask, he simply grabbed it and looked at us and said the jar would be at the front desk when we check out. My son had also been swimming in the small kiddie pool and I noticed some blue crystal like silt at the bottom that my son was twisting and spinning through with his goggles while swimming and on the drive home began complaining of very bad throat pain. We ended up having to take him to Stanford children’s hospital. He was stable and Trout Farms did cooperate in telling us what they put in their pools, but it was just the cherry on top after the unwelcoming, rigid experience. I am fifth generation local, and this place doesnt carry the legacy that a long time locals spot should. I’ll continue to share my experience whenever I hear someone mention this place.
