⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Mission just gets it. From the moment we sat down, it felt like one of those meals you know you’re going to be talking about later. The tableside guacamole is pure joy. Fresh, perfectly balanced, and made right in front of you—simple, fun, and ridiculously good. It sets the tone immediately, like, okay… we’re in good hands. Then the tacos showed up and sealed the deal. The Tecate steak tacos were unreal—tender, bold, full of flavor, and impossible not to devour. And the crispy shrimp tacos? Crunchy, juicy, and gone way too fast. The kind of food that makes you slow down for a second because you don’t want it to end. What really stood out though was the whole experience. The energy, the flow, the way everything just worked. Nothing felt forced or overdone—just great food, great vibes, and a place that clearly loves what it does. The Mission isn’t trying too hard… it doesn’t need to. It’s one of those spots that leaves you happy, full, and already planning your next visit. 🌮❤️
The Mission in Scottsdale is an authentic and romantic Mexican–Latin restaurant that delivers both exceptional flavor and atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, the ambiance sets the tone — dim lighting, warm décor, and soft Latin music that fills the air without overpowering conversation. The restaurant features two floors with both indoor and outdoor seating. The patio, where we dined, was especially charming — perfect for a romantic evening or special occasion. We started with house-made chips, fresh salsa, and guacamole prepared tableside — a true highlight. Watching the guacamole being made right before you adds a personal touch and freshness you can taste. The Mission’s guacamole is rich and creamy, featuring Hass avocados, jalapeños, lime, cotija, tomatoes, and toasted pepitas. We also shared the chicken thigh appetizer, served with warm tortillas. The meat was tender, juicy, and seasoned beautifully — perfect for sharing. For our entrées, we enjoyed the swordfish with rice, the specialty crab tacos, and the half chicken. Each dish arrived hot, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The swordfish was moist and flaky, the crab tacos were light and refreshing with a hint of spice, and the wood-grilled half chicken offered a smoky, savory taste that stood out. Portion sizes were generous and satisfying. To pair with our meal, we ordered two mocktails — one made with ginger and pomegranate — both fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Although it was a Monday evening, the restaurant was surprisingly busy, resulting in a short wait before the initial service. It took about ten minutes to be greeted, but once the rush passed, the servers were attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful, explaining menu items and offering thoughtful recommendations. The only minor downsides were the restroom cleanliness and outdoor cushion upkeep — small details that, if improved, would elevate the overall experience from wonderful to superb. Expect to spend between $100 and $200 for a three-course meal for two, but it’s worth every penny. The Mission delivers top-quality food, service, and ambiance — making it one of Scottsdale’s best spots for a romantic date night with a touch of Latin flair.
I really enjoyed the Guac-Tail happy hour! The guacamole was amazing along with the bar service by Sam. When I'm in the Scottsdale area I will definitely be back...customer service at this restaurant is top notch!
Our group of seven visited The Mission Kierland while traveling from Calgary, Alberta, and the entire evening exceeded every expectation. The real standout of the night was our server, Michael, who turned a great dinner into an unforgettable experience. From the moment we sat down, Michael’s energy, confidence, and knowledge of the menu made us feel completely taken care of. We trusted him enough to choose our dishes for the whole table — and it was the best decision we made all trip. Every recommendation was spot‑on, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Highlights Michael’s incredible service: attentive, personable, and genuinely passionate about the food. Perfect menu selections: he curated dishes that worked beautifully for a group of seven. A warm, welcoming atmosphere: ideal for visitors and locals alike. Memorable flavors and presentation: every plate felt thoughtfully chosen and expertly prepared. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back on our next trip to Arizona. Huge shout‑out to Michael for making our night so special — he’s a true asset to The Mission Kierland.
I was here a while ago for a work event. I ate here twice within 6 days, for good reason! I had the Chorizo Porchetta the second time (I don't remember what I had the first night). I highly recommend that dish, it's delicious!
We’ve been dining at The Mission at Kierland Commons a few times a year for several years now, and it never disappoints — but our most recent visit truly knocked it out of the park. We had our kids with us this time, and from start to finish, it was one of our best experiences yet. Curtis was our server and he was phenomenal — attentive, kind, and on top of every detail without ever feeling overbearing. His service elevated what’s already a consistently great restaurant. The atmosphere is always welcoming — clean, beautifully decorated, and full of character, with warm lighting and a vibrant-yet-relaxed ambiance that makes it great for everything from date nights to family dinners. We ordered a wide variety of dishes to share and loved every bite. The tableside guacamole is hands-down the best in the Valley — fresh, flavorful, and a fun way to kick off the meal. We also shared the shaved kale salad to start, which was light, perfectly dressed, and a surprising hit with the whole table. For mains, we passed around the Oaxaca cheesy rice and haricot verts, both delicious additions to the meal. Our youngest ordered a side of salmon and loved it, while our oldest had the Tácate Skirt Steak tacos — big flavor and perfectly cooked. My husband and I split the roasted pork shoulder tacos, which were rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Dessert was the perfect finale: the pumpkin bread pudding (so good, even our pumpkin-skeptic teen went back for seconds) and the espresso churros — warm, crispy, and indulgent in the best way. Every visit here reminds us why we keep coming back. Incredible food, top-notch service, and a beautiful atmosphere — The Mission is easily one of our favorite spots in Scottsdale. Highly recommend!
Best burger in the Valley. Chipotle chicken torta had rich flavors, Brussels sprouts were a crowd favorite topped with crispy bacon. Curtis our server was a pleasure and made our dining experience an excellent Easter brunch.
The place is decorated beautifully! The guacamole made table side is very good along with fresh chips and salsa. The cocktails are very good as well. The food is good, but they can improve on the tacos as they are too small to pick up and eat. The service is something to be desired. On a slow lunch day it took too long to get service.
Came here during the weekend brunch with family. Loved the food, service and the atmosphere. I love the openness of the dining area. The food was spot on. We enjoyed their brunch all you can eat tacos and topped them to our liking. You also can't go wrong with the street corn as a starter with chips and salsa. The chillaquilles were also good. They were a little different than the traditional ones I'm used to but I always appreciate different variations of my favorites and they didn't disappoint.
Service is top notch and wow that salsa and guacamole is amazing! Tacos were great aswell 👌
We had a great time, except for our son, who is a little picky at eating and there weren’t a ton of options for him. But the food and drinks were great for three adults. Table side 🥑 guac is almost a must. Friendly and fast service. The place was pretty full at lunch time, reservations would be wise on the weekends.
Delicious! Everything was so so good..awesome vibes and decor.
This is the second time I've been here and they are still doing the 3-course menu (prefix) from restaurant week!! Started with the Cesar salad, had the shrimp paella as a main (which does have pork and little clams in it), and the pumpkin bread pudding for desert. I did enjoy several capirhinias as well, and they were made perfectly. A great service staff and they all pitch in to cover tables, which was really nice since I was eating solo and a larger table took the majority of my waiters time.
It was a bit loud inside, but the food was excellent. I really enjoyed my steak and the caeser salad was delicious. The only dish we didn’t enjoy was the dungeness crab tacos but that was more due to it being cold with a weird texture.
Another great spot! I’ve been to the Mission in Old Town Scottsdale and really enjoyed it. I’d say this location is just as good if not better! Overall, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you choose to visit The Mission @ Kierland Commons. On this visit we split a few sides and got two main meals. We split the Black Bean Puree, Adobo Roasted Potatoes, and the Brussels Sprouts. For the meal, I got the Whole Roasted Pig Out and my wife got the Cubano Torta. It was all great! The Black Bean Puree did have something in it that gave it more of a spicy kick than I was ready for (a heads up for the spicy sensitive like me). The grilled chorizo in the potatoes was great! Can't wait to visit again in the future. Should you choose this spot for your meal, I hope you enjoy as much as we did!
Luckily, I was able to get a reservation here about 1-2 weeks prior for Valentine's Day dinner when most places were fully booked. The restaurant is two-story and we were seated on the 2nd level. The place had a relaxed dim-lit ambience and the service was excellent. We had the shrimp and beef anticuchos, the mahi mahi tacos, the skirt steak tacos, and the mission fries. The food was pretty good all around.
Love this place! Jordan crushes it at the bar with delicious original drinks! (Ask him for one of his ‘off the menu’ specialties!) Vibe is relaxed and casual, with a top-notch menu. We had three appetizers and all were delicious. Peruvian Duck Fried Rice, Crispy Pork with Cola Like Glaze and Grilled Street Corn. All had original flavors. None of them were boring. We will definitely be back!
Anniversary dinner. Great food and service. The kale salad is the best I’ve ever had; and we enjoyed the fish and carne asada tacos. The pumpkin spice bread pudding was incredible! Super margaritas, too.
Highly recommend this restaurant. Service was very good . Food had such yummy flavors, that My taste bud's wanted more. This is not Taco bell. If You expect the usual blase Latino food,it's not here. Give this place a try . You're taste buds will thank You.
What a wonderful way to spend an evening out with my husband! Service was amazing and so accommodating, they went above and beyond to make us feel special! Food was out of this world amazing. I highly recommend the duck fried rice, guacamole, steak, tacos, essentially anything on the menu. And the margaritas are also beyond delicious. I’m a big fan of the smoked pineapple or the cucumber! Can’t say enough good things.
Amazing place to eat. Table-side guacamole. Mexican street corn. Pork shoulder with chorizo. Brussel sprout tacos. Did I mention that it was amazing!?! To make our dining experience even better, Todd was our server. He's so passionate about his "mission" (pun intended) to present the best food on the menu. He is very knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us from suggesting family-style and food pairings. Now I'm waiting for my dessert to come - standby. Okay, he pumpkin bread pudding is the next level of desserts. This chunk of goodness take two day to make. It lays on a bed of caramel sauce with pomegranate and pumpkin seeds. What!?! Yep!! Enjoy when you come here, it's worth it.
The ambiance was beautiful, I sat at the bar and Ryan and Taylor took great care of me! I wasn’t very hungry, just looking to experience a drink and appetizer. I decided to get the elote, black bean dip, salsa and chips with a bonus ghost pepper purée that was excellent. I enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back and trying an entree and dessert.
Top tier food and staff was professional and informative. Excellent portions for such high quality food as well. Most of the time expect smaller portions with such an up scale level of food. 10/10 would recommend and hope to go back next time in Arizona. Only complaint was not being able to try more dishes.
The Mission never disappoints! The food is phenomenal and everyone who works there is kind and helpful. I prefer this location for daytime and the old town location for evening as it’s a darker and more intimate setting. The skirt steak tacos are so good!!!
My parents and I were out here for a week. We ate here for dinner one night and Matthew was our server. He was outstanding and went above and beyond for us. We ended up coming back for lunch another day and were lucky enough to have Matthew again. He was very nice and treated my mom to a gluten free dessert. 1000/10 would recommend requesting Matthew as your server.
One of my favorite places to bring people who visit town! I have had almost all of the tacos and can never pick which ones I want when I dine there. The sunday special with the all you can eat pulled pork tacos is such a good deal! Some of my other menu favorites are the table side guacamole and the street corn! The atmosphere is pretty lively with out being too loud! Great place for a group dinner or date night!
A HUGE thank you to Sergio for the amazing service. He was quick, attentive, provided excellent recommendations and treated us to an anniversary dessert. We will be back from Canada to see Sergio soon! Jose’s table side guac was 10/10!! Food is top notch and vibe is great. Favorite place in Scottsdale!
Dylan was friendly attentive and accommodating. But he spoke very loud. Just because we have grey hair does not mean we are hard of hearing. The kale salad, burrata salad, tecate battered mahi tacos and the tacate skirt steak tacos were all excellent. The tacos are tinier than street tacos. They are 3 to an order and very flavorful. Small but filling. Dined upstairs on patio.
Went there for brunch. Hard to find front door of restaurant. Not labeled and found inside patio seating. 😂 found our way inside. What a beautiful place! Salsa was amazing. Loved it. Table-side Guacamole delicious too. The ‘whole pig’ taco buffet was very small. Great sauces but only had bbq pork. It was tasty, but not what we thought it would be. Nice staff, good food. Will go back.
Great Mother’s Day lunch with my family. We started with the Mission Guacamole 🥑. A MUST try! It’s prepared table side. The chips are the best in town! They are soft, crunchy, tasty and they are big! I ordered the Short Rib Tacos, to my surprise the meat was dry and lacked flavor. I also ordered a cucumber margarita with a Tajín rim. Again, I was surprised, the cucumber margarita lacked flavor and tequila. The Tajín was dry and it was not fresh at all. It was dated. My son chose a hamburger which was pretty amazing. My husband had the Crispy Rock Shrimp tacos, he said that they were pretty good. I will give this restaurant to try again and order something different.
We had fun with family trying a new restaurant. The food was good, but it was a little spicy for me. Our waiter was so nice and even surprised us with a sparkler and desert for our anniversary celebration. Thank you, The Mission, we had so much fun.
My experience at the mission was good. I thought the food was good, drinks were good and the service was good. The steak tacos were really good. The guac was pretty good, not the best I've ever had but it was good. I love that the chips, and really all the food, is made at the restaurant. The service was fast, and our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu, the food, the style of cooking of the chef. He was a little pushy to keep ordering and eating. I just wanted to chill and he kept asking what's next. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend. Definitely top choice at keirland in terms of price, quality in food, service, and drinks.
This is a higher end restaurant with unique food options that focus on Central American flavors with a little nod to Mexican food as well. Drinks and food are great, service from Crystal and the manager were stellar for my friends bachelorette party. The only little hiccups were that they were out of a few food items and the soda I ordered was forgotten about even after asking a couple times. I would be aware that if you are looking for “American” type food, this is not going to be your spot but if you are looking for a special and different dining experience with great service this is your spot.
This place is swank. We usually go to the original in old Town but had to try out the Kierland location tonight. The guacamole is 100% incredible made tableside. I am a believer. We had the pork shoulder which is nice. Very messy. There's alot of delicious sauce which seemed kind of barbequey, sweet and spicy. It definitely splattered when it fell out of my delicious tortilla. Glad i wasn't wearing a white shirt. Way more pork than tortillas, which are hand made and outstanding. The service was spotty. I think they may have been understaffed so I want to give the benefit of the doubt. While our server was very friendly there were some things that could improve. He was often absent. We ran out of water and didn't get a refill until we were ready to leave. We'll certainly be back though! What a cool spot!
The Mission in Old Town had been on my list of places to eat in the Valley based on the love of their cocktails and food by so many, I just hadn't had the chance. We walked by the new location in Kierland about a month ago and said: "Oh, we need to check this out." My parents were in town on the way home from their yearly vacation by road trip and I decided we needed to check this out. Although we sat at the community table there were no issues with our table mates at all. But I will point out that the largest reservation you can make on Open Table for peak hours is 6, so be prepared to use your phone to call in, I know you don't like people that much, but the interaction will set you up for success. On Saturday morning I received a call confirming my reservation. Upon arrival we were greeted, my only complain is that there is no waiting area where the front desk is. Our server was extremely attentive and full of spunk. She offered multiple recommendations, know the menu as if she had tasted it all in the hours prior. We got our water often. The Chips were delicious, one of the things you may get out of this is the customized guacamole, we had some that was super spicy and one mild. For those that want to feel the heat they also have Ghost Pepper sauce to make you wail for milk. I shared the Grouper with my girlfriend, although the flavoring was on point I just don't think I'd order it again. The paella reduction just didn't suit me, the fish was excellent though. My mom had the Fried Mahi tacos and chili grits on the site. I'm not much of grits person, they tasted good, but if you don't have shrimp I'm probably not ordering it. The mahi tacos were delicious as well. A great night out, sadly I was unable to enjoy a libation. A bien tote.
Great space; cool vibe. Nice wine list, as a visitor from another state, I would’ve liked to see more local beers on offer. The tortilla chips are excellent—hot, crispy and salty and enjoyed the roasted salsa. The table side guacamole was as you would expect—wide variety of ingredient are available. I loved my spinach and date salad and the duck tacos were nice as well. Professional, informed but friendly service. Worth a visit.
Great ambiance, right in the middle of Kierland Commons, the focus is Latin-inspired dishes beyond Mexico. We tried the pork shoulder tacos and thought they were pretty good, though a bit on the sweet side for me. The size of the corn tortillas were minis, quite cute! I liked the side of Brussels sprouts we ordered too (had generous pieces of bacon in it). Really enjoyed the crispy pork & cola lime glaze as a starter - great texture and flavors - on top of a piece of lettuce.
Energetic vibe, cool surroundins, upscale feel, fun. But loud and pricey. The food is very good and service exceptional, but can be a tad too intrusive.
I met my girl friends for happy hour. It's only in the bar. The place is gorgeous architecturally. We sat at one of the long high top table. The waiter was knowledgeable. We ordered their frozen bloody orange margaritas. Very light on tequila but tasty, and some appetizers; steak taco, crispy pork tacos. It was ok but nothing to rave about. I had heard good things about this place. We were not impressed. May be the regular restaurant food is more elevated.
It was Valentine's Day and we had a reservation for 4:30. We waited 20-minutes to be seated. There did seem to be some confusion at the hostess desk, but then there might not have been servers available. We enjoyed our table on the balcony overlooking the bar, the setting is beautiful with a romantic vibe. Our house margaritas were very good. We ordered the Hamachi appetizer which I would not order again. The presentation is a little sketch for us squirrely diners... I felt like that poor fishs' fin was waving at me. The Hamachi was a little undercooked but not cold as if to be sashimi style, giving it a mushy texture. The fish was tasteless and the pineapple sauce was not good. The meal improved dramatically when we received our entrees. The crab tacos are excellent with the fresh house-made blue corn tortillas. We do not need large portions, but there are two, small tacos on the plate which is a little on the slim side. Three would have been a more appropriate serving. My husbands steak was a nice portion and very good but the star on his plate were the baked cheese balls. He had the potato with chorizo side dish which is a must-have to accompany the steak. We would be back for a special occasion and have a better idea of what to order.
I have been wanting to try this place ever since I walked by - the aroma that comes out of this restaurant is intoxicating! I hate to say that the meal ended up being disappointing. First the positives - the service was attentive, cocktails were tasty (my husband and I shared a Caracara, La Familia, and a Prickly Pear Margarita), and we also enjoyed the Roasted Corn Gordita appetizer we ordered. The rest of the meal was not enjoyable though, so much so that we ate very little of it. The Tecate Battered Mahi Mahi tacos were very unpleasant- the breading was not tasty, the green olive aioli was way too much (I say this as someone who really enjoys sauces), and the citrus escabeche was overwhelming (and I typically love all things vinegar). Overall, they were very unbalanced and cooked mediocrely. For the side, we were served the saddest brussel sprouts I’ve ever seen. Both the sprouts and the bacon they were topped with were undercooked, and it seems as though they forgot to season them entirely. I’m not sure if they were just having an off day, or we happened to dine at a bad time (around 4pm on a Thursday), but it was the first time I’ve left a restaurant hungry. Great aesthetic and service though!
We liked the guacamole, elotes and poblano grits! My friends liked their steak tacos, which are street taco sized, but I thought they were okay. I did not like the sauce for the pork shoulder tacos; a little too sweet for my taste.
The overall experience was exactly what I needed, a peaceful table for one, tucked upstairs on the south-end balcony. Truly perfect. My three-star rating is only because, while most of the meal was wonderful, my main course, the roasted 1/2 chicken would be a 1 ⭐️ on its own. The duck empanada, guacamole, and the best dessert EVER, The Mission’s bread pudding, were each solid 5 ⭐️s. But the mesquite wood and pistachio chicken was extremely dry and closer in size to a small Cornish hen. Even with the verde sauce, it was nearly inedible, and I ended up packing it up for my dog at home. Otherwise, it was a lovely evening with excellent service. Cheers!
Nice atmosphere but more for younger crowd with music turned up making it harder to hear. Food had a lot of potential but signature pork shoulder dish was way overcooked and everything else was OK good. Street Corn and Tableside Guacamole Appetizers were good as were the Salsas. Server forgot the 2 street Corn appetizers we ordered and brought them out to us at the END of our meals and said he would not charge us for them but put one of them on our bill. Very expensive for the quality and quantity of what you get. Won't go back.
High-end Scottsdale as you expect! ***Was served 2 cocktails with chipped glass rims...thats why a 3 star! Food was ok, small servings including the table guacamole! Service was good!
The seafood in my seafood stew was very sparse. We also ordered the pork, and it arrived as a slab of pork with tortillas. No salsa, no nothing. We won’t be back. Insanely expensive for what we got.
My experience was great as a first time patron with Alex in the bar. She was amazing! The only reason I did not give my overall experience five stars was because as we were sitting at the bar eating and drinking; we observed waiters using their “bare hands” to put lemons, orange peelings, limes, etc in customers drinks! This is UNSANITARY and so disgusting!!!! I have no idea where your hands have been!!!! I’m on the fence about going back…. They didn’t seem to care that customers sitting at the bar could observe this first hand. Thank you Alex for taking proper sanitary protocol with our food and especially our drinks. I urge management to provide proper training on this serious problem! Makes you wonder if this is done openly in the bar, I can only imagine what’s taking place in the kitchen 🤮🥴🤢
We’ve been here two dozen times. The last two visits have been bad. Food service and staff were both off. The waitress was bad and the hostess was extremely rude. The last time we visited (2/14/26) during valentines, we got up and left. Nobody came to take our initial order. We won’t be back again.
We made a reservation at The Mission in Kierland Commons with high expectations. It was on everybody’s list of places to eat in Scottsdale. It was extremely disappointing. We arrived and were seated promptly on the upstairs patio, which was lovely. However, things went downhill quickly. The server arrived and was either robotic, disinterested or ornery. We couldn’t tell which. He started to tell us about the specials and menu highlights at a clip we could not follow. We asked him to slow down. He gave us an annoyed look and proceeded with his descriptions at the same pace. When we asked if we could share a dish, he looked annoyed. We ordered a dish that had bacon in it and the server asked if we were allowed to eat bacon. When the food arrived, the steak was tough and cold.
I’m convinced the good reviews here are fake. . The food was BAD portions are absurdly small, the prices are insanely high, the noise level was super high and hard to hear eachother at the table . They will serve you smashed avocado for with some onion for $18 plus tip and tax =$24. The drinks were watered down at $21 for a house Margarita . Stay away, this place is high cost per person, low value food and drink. Ambiance was dark , could not read menu without a flashlight,
