My daughter and her husband took me here for my birthday dinner while I am in Seattle visiting. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I had the filet medium rare with mashed potatoes broccoli carrots. My daughter had the same. My son-in-law had the New York strip. Everybody's meal was tasty and cooked well.
Dinner was delicious 😋 Ribeye with Bernaise and crab 🦀 Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Asperigus. Creme Brulee all served by our sensational waiter Caleb Fisher!
My spouse and I shared an 18 oz ribeye, medium. That came with generous horseradish, vegetables, salad, and potato of choice. We added some mushrooms and an amber ale on tap. The steak was cooked to perfection. The marinade was just a touch sweet, and subtle. I did not want it to end. I'm glad that I had the mushrooms. They went well on the steak, on the baked potato, and on their own. They had a wide selection of cuts to go back for. We were seated within minutes. The service was attentive and frequent. Our server didn't bat an eye when we wanted to split our main. Not literally of course, we cut the steak. I can't imagine eating all that food by myself, so I recommend that you bring at least one friend. I predict that they will thank you. Check the prices before you go. We're glad we indulged, but your budget may vary. And last, be aware that if you are not ordering entrees, you'll be asked to sit in the bar.
I've only been here for their amazing happy hour, but I can tell you it's great! The burger is $7 and still better than a burger you'd get elsewhere and pay twice that price. They always have great beer on tap and great service. I enjoy bartenders who chat with patrons when they're not busy. The bar is cozy and inviting.
Me and my friends and family went here for my birthday dinner and it was fantastic! Appetizers: crab cakes were good, not my favorite but the Mac n cheese was to die for! Flavorful and creamy and a perfect crisp on the top! Entree: I got the filet mignon with a loaded baked potato and this steak was one of the best I’ve had in a while! It was cooked perfectly with a perfect char and flavorful. Dessert: the chocolate cake was so thick but it needed more raspberry compote/syrup to offset all the chocolate. Service was great! And we loved the lighting too!
We frequently dine at Jak’s because it is consistently perfect. The food, staff and the atmosphere make the dining experience memorable. We had the pleasure of having Connor as our waiter. He is perfect. Professional and kind. Oh yes, extremely handsome too! Only one time did we experience an “off” night and Connor was our waiter. He turned it into a 5 star rating with his genuine kindness and professionalism. Also, I don’t recall the name of the nice man that helped Connor bring our food to the table. He was great as well. Because we are regulars at Jak’s, we have gotten to know and love the other team members there. Gaylynn, Tracy, Ani all stopped by our booth to say hello. Our friend that we brought had never been to Jak’s. He was so impressed with the warmth and friendliness of everyone. The food is totally 5 stars. I always order the pork chop. It is tender, cooked medium well and very flavorful. We were thrilled to see that the Wild Boar Short Rib Paperadelle Pasta dish is back on the menu!
Perfect 6oz top sirloin with asparagus finished with a sumptuous chocolate" loving spoonful" desert. Delightful waitress Traci was prompt and attentive.
Jak's is an amazing spot for brunch. The place is huge, and even on a Saturday morning, two of us were seated right away without a reservation. The food was absolutely delicious—everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Our server didn’t come around often, but that was totally fine since we had everything we needed. The food alone makes this place worth coming back to, and we definitely will be. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing meal! We are foodies and are from out of town! The staff was extremely accommodating! We had our 1 year old with us and they made us feel welcomed, and were so nice to my son. That means the world to me, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and evening here. The best Beef Wellington too!
I took my brother here for his 16th birthday. First time at a fine dining restaurant. Connor gave us the best service ever. Truly a great experience.
Wife and I are visiting Seattle and decided to try here for our 2 year anniversary. We were seated promptly in the upper deck which felt cozy with an overlook of the street. Steaks were delivered quickly and were the correct temperature. They were flavorful and tender. For dessert we got the chocolate chip a la mode which was hot and tasty.
JaK’s Grill in West Seattle is a hidden gem for seafood lovers! I recently dined there to celebrate a birthday and was thoroughly impressed. The standout dish was the steelhead trout on a potato cake—an exquisite combination of flavors and textures that left me craving more. Complementing the meal was their delightful nonalcoholic wine, which added a refreshing touch to the evening. The ambience was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a celebration.
Moroccan skewers are the way to go here! Lovely food, atmosphere and service. Sit upstairs and spy on the goings-on below!
Been there twice for brunch and the food is amazing. The potatoes were seasoned perfectly and everything came out quickly. We got the classic eggs benedict and sausage and gravy. It was delicious. The service is also good. I will definitely be going here more often.
My partner and I chose Jak’s for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! We made reservations and were seated immediately when we arrived (10 minutes early, even!), went to the cute upstairs area and got a window table. The hostess and server were both super friendly and told me happy birthday multiple times which was very sweet and appreciated. We had the artichoke dip- so good, and a decent portion. For our entrees I got the 9oz filet mignon with potato pancakes, my partner got the 6oz wagyu with garlic mashed potatoes. It would’ve been nice if these meals came with two sides, but they don’t, so we added a side of mac and cheese to share. Dinner was INCREDIBLE. The steaks were both cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth. Based on other reviews I ordered my steak up a temperature- medium when I wanted medium rare, and it was perfect. The sides were all delicious, and the mac & cheese was a huge portion. The “autumn spring” drink was refreshing and tasty, the Jak’s reserve Malbec was nice and smooth and went great with my steak. And they had my partner’s favorite beer (mac & jack’s african amber) on tap! We each ordered a dessert: my partner had the skillet cookie with ice cream, and I had the chocolate caramel lava cake. They took my lava cake off the tab as my birthday dessert, and presented it with a lit candle! That was such a sweet touch. The desserts were both very good. This was a TON of food. We went in starving and left completely stuffed. It was about $180 before tip, not bad at all for the quality of food and service. Thanks for making my birthday dinner great! We had a lovely time and will definitely be back.
We had a very tasty meal at JaK's Grill. We started off with crab cakes and Brussel sprouts. Both dishes we'll have again. The prime rub was delicious - seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Butternut Squash Malfadine was creamy with a variety of flavors to experience. Loved the added walnuts for texture. We'll be going back soon!
I’ve been going to Jak’s for years, and each time I go the experience is always great. Even though I live out of the city, I’ll make the trip over when I can because the service is fantastic and the food is wonderful! Make a reservation if possible, sometimes the wait is long without. P.S. ask for UFO style next time you order a steak 🛸😀
It's our Monday dinner spot almost weekly. Monday offers a hard to beat prime rib dinner at a great price. Mon-Fri offers an amazing happy hour (at the bar) with an incredible 1/2 lbs burger and fries for $8, and if you get the chance for Friday lunch, the fish sandwich is a particular favorite of mine. A must check out place if you're in the West Seattle neighborhood.
This review is from last Valentine's day. I should have left this review sooner, because we loved this restaurant. The food was delicious, the vibe was comfortable, and our server handled everything to perfection. We had one small hiccup. I asked for medium well, but got medium rare, but our server took care of that quickly. And, to be honest, I might not have spoken clearly when I ordered. Google says they're temporarily closed. I hope it's only temporary.
Definitely upscale host looked at me crazy cuz I walked in with sweatpants and a baseball cap. But server at the bar was kind young man and the food was excellent.
Food was fantastic!! Tony, our server made our experience next level!! He made a good night a great night! Thanks for a special Valentine’s Day!
Great new location. The food is always good. The steaks impeccable. The staff on point! I have not had a bad meal here ever and I’ve been coming here since 2015.
Jak's is A-mazzinnnggg. Their new location is even sexier than the first. Staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Food is also always great, especially the brunch- high quality and taste and good portions.
Had a nice experience here. I don’t eat out too often anymore, but I’m glad I stoped by Jak’s Grill. The service and food was good. I would come back.
Finally got to Jack's for a date night and wish we got there sooner! It did not disappoint. Service was good, food was delicious and drinks were spot on! Beautiful atmosphere. Started with their crab cakes, with real crab! Then we shared a ceasar salad, nothing spectacular about it, but it was delicious. Obviously we had steaks for our entree, ribeye and filet with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and onion rings. The steaks were well cooked and seasoned. The sides were also yummy. We did order dessert of course. We tried their lava cake, it was well cooked and not to rich.
Yesterday was our first dinner in the new location and we were blown away by the food and service. Our server, Tracy was A-mazing! She is such a kind person and was the perfect balance between being attentive but also giving us time to enjoy our date night. We kept it easy and split the onion rings, wedge salad, and New York strip- flavor was great, the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the wedge gem was crazy good. Get that salad, you won’t be disappointed. My only negative feedback was that even though we had reservations, they were running about 10 minutes behind. When we were seated, I saw that the bar seating was basically open- I just wished that the hosts had offered us that option and been explicit about the wait time. But overall we loved the new space- just make sure you make a reservation and ask to sit in Tracy’s section.
Dinner with friends turned out to be a 5 star experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful and warm. The staff is some of the best out there. They were friendly, attentive, and overall made the evening perfect. Last but not least the food was exceptional. My filet was cooked to perfection and everyone else in my party raved about their selections. Highly recommend Jak's.
I am just a wondering Texas dude and OMG! This food is incredibly delicious. Everyone got steaks, save myself and another. because I had the prime rib sandwich. A little dark as far as the lighting, but the server was great and the food was awesome so that lit things up. Thank you for the wonderful experience
This place was such a hidden gem. I ordered the chicken fried steak out of nostalgia and I wasn't disappointed! Everything on the plate was so perfect - the steak was crispy, the arugula was dressed nicely, potatoes were roasty, and the biscuit was the best one I've had since living in Texas! The server brought me a whole bowlful of hollandaise since I can't have sausage gravy, which I appreciated! Definitely would come back again
Went out here for a family members birthday party and would say it was a nice meal. The atmosphere is lively and the place itself goes back a lot further than you would assume from the street. Front area bar has some tv’s and games on and the back is a little more sectioned off with large booths and tables. Food was pretty good, not mind blowing but solid. Wound up getting the steak skewer with cheese sauce which could have been a little warmer but was overall tasty. Sides were good as well. My mom enjoyed her steak and it was rare to her liking which can be tough to find. Definitely a solid place for steak in the west Seattle area but the maybe not quite as elevated of an interior as you’d get from a classic statehouse. Good place to take family or have a group.
I came to Jak's Happy Hour for the first time in a while w my hubby. We came at exactly 4 o'clock and sat at a high table and chairs. I love their bar area and philosophy. Service guy is a super nice and good talk. We ordered 2 of Jak's Cheeseburger with Sweet potatoes fried and some drinks. We asked for medium-well for the doneness of the meat. It was perfect grilled burger and juicy meat. I ate all the sweet potato fries. We finished our meal in just 30 minutes, and there were two couples waiting for a seat. It's worth the wait at happy hour!
Connor served us. He’s Amazing! We come in for Prime Rib night which is on Mondays. It’s our favorite place to go for Prime Rib.
I made reservations ahead of time and was seated immediately upon entering. This business is following current COVID 19 protocols by asking for proof of vaccination/negative covid test upon entry. I choose this place for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint!!! I started with the pear martini and omg it was amazing!!!!!! Probably the best drink hands down I’ve ever ordered out. The drink was strong but not too overwhelming, the perfect balance! For food I settled on the regular filet mignon which came with a side salad and your choice of potatoes. My bf got the same but with fries. I decided to make it “Oscar style” by adding Dungeness crab asparagus & béarnaise and I chose garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was so damn good and flavorful! However, I ordered my steak medium and it was definitely more on the medium rare side which was disappointing. I ALWAYS order medium rare so it was okay but this time I wanted a nice medium and was let down. For this to have the nice classy restaurant vibe it gives off they should of cooked my steak to perfection 🙃
Shrinkflation, less than wonderful table, a somewhat unavailable server, and a steak that was pretty much raw in the middle instead of medium rare, left me a little wanting at this new West Seattle location. But the kick is that I can go to a better steak house, with better service, and better steak for what I paid here.
Just tried the new location - have been to the old location as well as was a regular at the Laurelhurst location before it closed. The atmosphere is nice and the server was very friendly. The food definitely is not as good- menu is very different, the steak was already sliced (?!), the portions seemed smaller, the UFO mashed potatoes seemed watery, no sourdough bread, salad or veggies with your steak anymore. Even the fries that came with the cheeseburger weren’t as good. Thank goodness the Vesper drink was still good. I would give this a 3.5 stars for food.
Ordered the tomahawk steak 150 dollars. It came sliced and bone off. And the bone was on the plate. And portion was small. Everything else was good.
This has always been one of our top restaurants. We were excited to go to the new location, but after learning our favorite menu items were off. We were pretty bummed. The Skewers & Stuffed Halibut 🤌🏼Also, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just increase your prices to include the salad and veg. This is something we loved about this steakhouse and set them apart from others. The service was great, and my Filet was top tier. The burger wasn’t as good as I remember and the rest of the food was meh.
the old place was great. the new one is claustrophobic, lacks atmosphere, and painfully slow. our server was nice but mostly absent. it felt like a half hour between checking in at times. food was great, but you used to get salad, bread and two sides with a petite filet; now its just meat and one side, and you pay for each extra. i loved this place, but wont be back to this location. worse value, atmosphere and service. so sorry to say it. love the food. i had to go find the server on foot to pay the bill. elderly mom’s birthday dinner kinda tainted by talking about the dining experience instead of life. $400 + tab kinda a bummer
4 of us went to celebrate a birthday. New location is nice. Food was a little disappointing. Ordered Mac and cheese...greasy not creamy. Server agreed it did not look good. No replacement no offer to take off check. My husband ordered pork chop. No salad, no veggies and if you want bread thats another $9! Another got tenderloin and the most pitiful portion of mashed potatoes. Her plate looked so sad. Really disappointed in the changes. Used to feel like you got a quality complete meal. $250.00 in total spent and it was disappointing.
I went to the new location of jaks tonight with my family. I'm glad I had heard of their new location as maps wanted to take me to their old location. To be fair to jaks my comparison is being based on my past experiences with the old jaks and the new jaks. The bar area is larger and our group of 4 decided to sit at a table as opposed to bar for conversation purposes. Looking forward to jaks happy hr Hamburger and fries. Nope it's off their menu replaced with 3 tiny meat sliders that were pretty good. No fries came with them. Ordered Mac n cheese for us to share it was good but not very cheesy . My partner had the prawns very small portion possibly 3 prawns . He did say they were very good. Service good and even though busy in bar area she never forgot us. Ambience not that much compared tv over bar for sports. Anyway I'm happy jaks is still in the junction
I chose this restaurant based on reviews.First time here, and I was disappointed. I made a reservation and still had to wait an additional 20 minutes to be seated. Hostess is doing way too much. If she had help, more guests would have been seated quicker. Second, I ordered the filet mignon. While it was cooked as ordered, there was no flavor. Very bland. My hubby ordered Tomahawk, that was great! The only great thing I would give a five-star was the atmosphere. I would recommend ordering your steak with garlic and rosemary or another marinated choice. Plain Jane does not work.
The meat tasted really good but unfortunately the French fries were clearly frozen (McDonald's style) and we both had really bad intestine problems after leaving the restaurant (still trying to figure it out if it was from the meat or from the sides). I know that it is always a risk eating out in the US especially with fast food style restaurants but after spending 120 dollars in 2 people for a small dinner in a more high-end restaurant, it is not ok to feel sick.
Long time customers. The menu change and new location has brought this place from a 10/10 to a 5.5/10. Price increase, smaller proportions, limited choices for sides presliced chops and steak. This change im sure is going to lose alot of business. We definitely won't be back unless changes are made.
The vibe of this place has change since it moved into the new building. The menus has changed to be more pretentious. They got rid of their creamy artichoke dip. $16 for Mac and Cheese entree??? 1.) They got rid of the amazing sour dough they would put on your table. Now there is a Breads and Spreads you pay $9 for 2 small loaves of bread (same white flavor) - 2 tiny butter dishes and dipping oil. The bread was pre-cut to the bottom crust. That bottom crust was so hard you had to get a steak knife. ( I should never need a steak knife to cut bread) 2.) We waiting an hour for our main dish. We arrived at 4:45 and didn't get our food till 6pm. 3.) Our server wasn't attentive, He never came around to ask for refills on drinks. After about 30 mins he came to pick up our entree dishes and was about to leave when we flagged him back to ask for drinks 4.) There is a side call UFO - I thought it was a completely new side and was really curious to learn about it. Nope! They just take their mashed potatoes and put their potato pancake on top. Two items they already have. I think they added it to make their side dishes look as if they have more than they do. I am sad to see the Jak's I remember and loved disappearing. It was a small space, with an intimate feeling of just you and your person out on a lovely dinner. It's expanded into a more open feel where you can now take part in your neighbors conversations. The Tomahawk steak was good. The restaurant has no more personality though.
Jak's has been go-to celebration dinner place for the last 10 years and after two bad experiences, I won't ever be returning. This place has seriously gotten bad. They still charge you the big steak restuarant prices, but they don't treat their customers like they used to. The last two times I went in there were for birthdays, so they were a year apart...they served me undercooked steak. Both times I ordered medium steak and I was servered rare steak. Very rare. Both times they "offered to take my steak and throw it back on for a little longer". Oh wow, thanks. My table was just served their dinner and now you're taking mine away because YOU messed up. You just ruined my dinner...but go ahead. This last time they brought it back and I don't think they cooked it any further. It was totally red and gross. I was so disappointed. The server didn't charge me for the steak. The last two times I've been in, I've been served the INCORRECT order. I order MEDIUM steak. Not RARE steak. It's not hard. When people order a $65 ribeye, the least you can do is prepare it the way they ask! Two awful trips to a this place when I wanted to be chilling and celebrating and enjoying myself. That's hundreds of dollars to be let down. Don't let them do it to you!
Pasta was raw and steak was very unevenly cooked , part of it was burnt up and the other half of the ribeye was raw with no seasoning. If you're going to charge this much for food, you need to have consistent quality on the menu. Jaks has really lost that at dinner time, still a great brunch .. also, post your brunch menu online for WS, please
Visited the new location in W Seattle. We were seated and was there for 15 minute waiting for service and no one appeared. The table across from us was sat and they were greeted within 1 minutes. I'm sure it was a mistake but we ended up leaving and going to the American diner instead. We will try again another day.
32$ for a 6oz sirloin that comes pre-sliced. I had 4 slices on my plate... that's 8$ a slice.... come on.... we're not dealing with some overly fancy steakhouse here, even then that's insane. Jak's appears to be having an identity crisis where it wants to command top dollar but the food doesn't justify that. The value provided from Jak's is gone. They gutted the salad, bread and 2-sides included a while ago and have continued to just erode the justification of their costs for customers, really a shame to see as I rather enjoy(ed) Jak's.
The halibut that two of a party of three had was over cooked and dry, the steak the third person had was perfect. The choose your entrees and then add sides for additional money is just a cash grab and not well explained on the menu. BTW I'm a retired 20 year professional chef.
The evening was very disappointing from beginning to end. Friday 7:30/10-31 a group of 5 that were sat in the back. We were sat 15 min after our reservation time. Then we sat for another 10 min before anyone came to our table. It was not that busy in the restaurant. We had to continue to wave the server down whenever we needed something. I ordered a second martini that he forgot, again having to wave someone down. Our dinners were auctioned off at the table instead of serving each person. We all ordered steaks that came out at the incorrect temperature. My friend’s ribeye was served very rare when asked for med rare plus. Had to be sent back. Personally I split my meal with my friend, dinner is brought out I am told they do not split plates. Could I have been given an extra plate then? Or did you want us to eat off the plate together while sitting across from on another? Zero attention to detail……. If you are going to present yourself as a fine dining steakhouse that serves everything à la cart at these prices the service should match. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the layout is nice. I don’t believe any of us will be back unless it’s a happy hour situation.
