Opinions de Verve Restaurant Somerville
The salmon was nicely cooked and very tender. It came with fried rice that was also cooked correctly. I loved the bread that was served. John the waiter was excellent and was always there for us. I would not get the blackberry tart for desert. The taste was less than expected.
My dad, sister, and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Verve, and let me tell you, it was an experience to remember! From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the elegant yet cozy ambiance. The decor was a perfect blend of modern chic and classic charm, making it a delightful setting for our family outing. We began our meal with the charcuterie board, which was an absolute feast for the senses. The selection of cured meats, artisanal cheeses, and accompaniments was both diverse and exquisite. Each bite offered a new combination of flavors, and we couldn't get enough of the perfectly paired condiments and fresh bread. Next up, we indulged in the truffle mac and cheese, which was nothing short of heavenly. The rich, creamy sauce was infused with just the right amount of truffle, creating a luxurious dish that was both comforting and sophisticated. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the crispy breadcrumb topping added a delightful crunch. Our salads were equally impressive, showcasing fresh, vibrant ingredients that were expertly dressed and beautifully presented. Each salad was a testament to the quality and care that Verve puts into their dishes, offering a refreshing and flavorful complement to the heartier items on our table. Throughout our meal, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that our dining experience was flawless from start to finish. Their warm hospitality made us feel right at home and added a personal touch to our evening. Overall, our visit to Verve was a fantastic dining experience. The combination of exceptional food, stunning atmosphere, and top-notch service made for a memorable night out with my family. We left feeling satisfied and eager to return, knowing that Verve has set a new standard for our dining adventures.
Luxurious, relaxing atmosphere inside this swank, two-level restaurant that radiates Manhattan vibes but with small-town, Main Street smiles. Welcoming and personal service with attentive, friendly staff that sets the tone for finely done plates and cocktails that match the price points. A splendid venue for date nights and anniversaries, with a cool, lush vibe that’s approachable and unpretentious alongside the class. The specials were worth trying, and the cocktails and wine poured strong. Seafood a plus. Vegetable apps were rich. Fun deserts and all the after-dinner aperitifs you’d expect.
I randomly parked in front of this place after visiting a client. It was right around happy hour, and saw a sign on the building that said they were voted the ‘best bar in New Jersey.’ So of course, I consulted the Google reviews, which were very positive. And since I hadn’t had lunch,I went in and sat at the bar. I had 2 Negronis which were perfect. The octopus appetizer was a 9.8 out of 10. Then I ordered the Parisian Gnocchi based on the bartender Jamie’s recommendation. It also tasted awesome..They were like little pillows of mashed potatoes, in a potato and leek cream sauce. I devoured it. Props to Jamie as she was super friendly, attentive, and thorough, and seems that she works this way because she loves what she does. Then.. Jamie asked me what was next and I informed her that I was a Tequila/Mezcal guy. So she asked me to trust her for my next cocktail.. which ended up having artichoke liquor and something pomegranate. It was really delicious, unique and complex. I would definitely return here, and look forward to doing so the next time I’m in the area..as there are many other dishes on the menu that sounded delicious. Classy joint all the way with no pretense.
I had the pleasure of dining at Verve during the holiday season where they had decorated the entire restaurant and then a group of carolers came in and sang a few songs. It was a wonderful Christmas experience, as were their cocktails! Highly recommend!
First time here and loved the atmosphere... Sat in the bar on the high top tables! Alejandro was the bartender and our server. He was awesome!! We ordered the halibut and the skirt steak and decided to share it btwn the 2 of us. The chef divided it up for us without us even asking them to do that. Both meals were incredible!! I was really impressed overall with Verve and would highly recommend it!!
Very good food and service. Authentic paris bistro
First time dining at Verve and it was a wonderful experience on New Year’s Eve. The staff was friendly and professional from the moment we were greeted to when we left. The dishes were all exceptional. We will definitely return soon. Thank you for your hospitality this evening.
We love going to verve for cocktails. Allejandro is our favorite bartender, these photos are his handy work. All the bartenders always make amazing drinks and always welcome you with a smile. You cannot get a gourmet cocktail like these anywhere else.
Charming restaurant and bar located on Main St in the heart of Somerville. Food was spectacular and the intimacy of the dim lighting creates a personable ambiance thats warms and inviting.
I took my girlfriend here for Valentines Day. Trying to find a cheaper option than an NYC Omakase, I settled on this place. I have to admit, I was impressed. We entered the place as they were still readying our table, so we decided to hang out at the bar. The bar definitely had that Williamsburg mixologist vibe, with well dressed vested bartenders and a great custom cocktail menu. I got a drink similar to an old fashioned which was actually quite good. As 10 minutes passed, we were promptly seated at our table downstairs. The place had a cozy sort of romantic vibe, dimly lit with French style paintings adorning the red walls of the room. We opted for the Valentines Day 4 course dinner which was reasonably priced at $75 per person (appetizer, salad, main course, and dessert). The food was well prepared for our consumption. When I ordered my Filet Mignon medium rare, it indeed came out to me medium rare. We didn’t feel overwhelmed with the amount of food which was great. Our server was very friendly, polite and prompt. I was pleased to say the least Being someone who just moved to the area, I definitely recommend this place to anyone exploring Somerset county.
Nice place. Clean and well maintained. COVID precautions are taken here. Friendly and professional staff. Tasty food. Good quantity. A little expensive but its justifiable. If you aren't familiar with the food definitely ask about it before ordering. They have non alcoholic beer and mocktails available. I highly recommend the duck dish and their appetizer made with ravioli.
6:30 reservation at Verve for our friend’s 24th birthday. We sat in the lower level, which is absolutely splendid with a vintage atmosphere. It would be impossible for this area to be devoid of employees. Besides the server, we received help from numerous other staff. Our water did not remain empty for more than 30 seconds. The server, Zoe, was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Espresso martinis were delicious. Chicken lollipops were flavorful and tender but would not recommend as a full meal - my mistake. Citrus salad with beets was light, refreshing, and dressing was not overly sweet. Crem brûlée with blueberries, mint garnish, and shortbread cookie was passed around the table, to die for! This dessert was delivered quietly with a candle and we were allowed our time to sing for our friend. Whether a date night or birthday celebration, Verve is a lovely destination.
Always a good experience: creative menu and drinks, friendly staff, great atmosphere to relax. When I have guests from out of town this is one of my go-to’s. Places like this make Somerville unique (and delicious). The Bang dumplings are little flavor bombs and they make the best lobster rolls. On my last visit my friend and I shared a charcuterie board that was thoughtfully filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, and sweet and savory accompaniments.
Cute local bar. We have been coming here for several years. The food is good, the drinks are great & the bartenders are really attentive. The upstairs is a nice vibe when it’s open but we usually sit downstairs because it feels more intimate, date feel. My husband and I enjoy dropping in to unwind without our kids.
We always have a wonderful time and food is delicious! We went with another couple the other night and our waiter EJ (Eric Jr.) was exceptional which made the experience that much more enjoyable. He was very attentive and polite. Thank you!
Great atmosphere, amazing service. Always feel welcomed and taken care of. Outstanding bartenders! You can come here alone, with friends, or a date, you'll have a great time either way. I highly recommend this place. Food is also amazing.
Cocktails, red wine and the bourbons were good. The 3 fish dish - tartare, filet of Bronzino and the special monk fish - were just delicious! The veg gnocchi was superb. Will visit again
This place really good. The bartenders are awesome. The drinks in the picture are, 50 Shades of Pink, and the Verve Manhattan.
As always, amazing food and service! Great night out with the Mrs. We had a fantastic date night. The apps, the entrees, dessert and cocktails were all exceptional! Can't wait to go back!!!!
Verve is my favorite bar in the area. The bartenders are mixologist masters, the atmosphere is always welcoming, and the menu has a delightful and unique selection of exactly what you are looking for when you just realized you are starving.
My girlfriend loves this place. We come here for drinks usually and are never disappointed. The bartender's are nice and very attentive. You can ask for a type of drink without knowing a specific drink name and they will hook you up. This past time we went I got an LIT and my girlfriend got the love potion #7. Both were delicious. The vial the love potion came was in the shape of a heart. Very fitting. My drink was very well made and packed a punch. A great night to celebrate our anniversary.
Incredible atmosphere, unique and delicious cocktails and food that’s to die for! Whether going for a drink, or a date night for dinner, Verve always delivers. They just recently reopened their 1933 room which is a small bar upstairs to keep the night going after an amazing meal!
We hosted my wife’s birthday party in their upstairs room. Rick and his staff couldn’t have been more accommodating, friendly, and willing to please. Our whole group had a great time with excellent food, drinks, atmosphere and service. Highly recommend this establishment.
A favorite for inspired and refined cocktails. Worth it to come back multiple times a year to try the seasonal drinks. The lounge upstairs is a vibe
Stopped by the bar at Verve in Somerville and had an amazing experience. The bartenders were not only friendly and welcoming, but truly skilled at what they do. You can tell they take pride in their craft—every drink was made with care, balance, and creativity. The vibe in the bar area was relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind and enjoy a well-made cocktail. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates quality drinks and great service!
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Verve! Our server, EJ, was incredibly attentive, kind, and helpful—he truly elevated the entire evening. We sampled a variety of dishes, including the oysters, sunshine dumplings, calamari, mac and cheese, pork belly, escargots, truffle fries, duck, and steak au poivre—each one more delicious than the last. For dessert, we indulged in the cheesecake and chocolate ganache cake, both of which were phenomenal. The cocktails were just as impressive. The Verve Manhattan was a personal favorite, but the jardin Fumé, Crimson Sunset, and 50 Shades of Pink were all refreshingly delicious as well. Highly recommend—everything was spot on!
I had the pleasure of spending an evening at an event at Verve. The owner has a deep passion for client satisfaction, offering outstanding service and white linen dining dining culinary experience. The restaurant offers a welcoming and charming appeal, only to be matched by the carefully constructed straightforward dishes. The regulars come in for time and time again. My recommendation is the duck. The owner, Rick sets high standards so you will never leave disappointed.
We had our wedding dinner at Verve a little over a week ago and it was a lovely experience! Eric was beyond amazing - catering to all of our needs. He was so efficient and helpful - our glasses were never empty. We seriously can’t thank him enough. All of our guests raved about him and the food as well. Special shout out to Rick who helped me organize the dinner! We’ve been to Verve many times and we are looking forward to going back for another dinner very soon.
We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was absolutely perfect! The food was spectacular, the cocktails were delicious, and the service was incredibly friendly. The speakeasy room was the ideal spot to kick off our wedding weekend — cozy, stylish, and full of charm. Thank you for making our evening so memorable!
They greet you like family. Serve you like royalty and treat you with respect. Unlike Village brewery who rather you leave then service you. But that's a diffrent review.
This French restaurant is pretty charming. I came here with my father and sister to have a father daughter dinner. We came for dinner around 7:30pm and got a table for 3. We were seated quickly despite there being a nice crowd in the restaurant. The bar area was packed with patrons so this restaurant is definitely popular. For starters we got the pork belly confit and Korean duck buns. Both appetizers were delicious. When eating the pork belly confit make sure to eat it with the Crispy Scallion Pancake, Apple Relish, Maple Creme Fraiche because it helped with cutting out the pork belly fat taste and it tastes great together. But if I had to choose between the two appetizers definitely get the Korean duck buns they were so good. For my entree I got the Tom Yum Noodle Bowl and I will admit it was not my favorite and I still had a big portion leftover. My sister got the special which was a lamb with pasta and after having a little taste of it I wish I got that instead. My dad got the crispy chicken breast and he threw down. His plate was clean so that should tell you something right there. I say definitely check this restaurant out. It gives intimate so it is honestly the perfect spot for a cute date night.
Stepping into this French bistro felt like a mini-trip to Paris. While the ambiance was charming, the unexpected star of the evening was the delightful noodle bowl – a surprising and delicious departure from classic French fare. Their cocktail menu also offered some truly creative and well-executed options. Though I came expecting traditional dishes, these unique highlights made for a memorable experience. I'd definitely return to explore more of their inventive offerings alongside a perfectly mixed drink. Only issue is their service. They are under staffed and that results in giving less attention to customers.
Cozy, relaxing atmosphere inside this two-level restaurant that blends Manhattan vibes with small-town charm. The food lived up to the hype - our favorites were the pork belly appetizer, NY steak, lobster pasta, and soup. We also enjoyed the charcuterie board, which offered a nice selection. Although the staff was polite, the service was notably slow, with long waits between courses. Overall, it's a bit pricey, but the amazing food makes it worth it.
The food was amazing! They not only look good but taste delicious. You can feel your tongue dancing with joy for every bite you take. Then again that was only for the meat and the sauce portion, I felt that veges didn't go so well with the entree. Overall the price is a bit higher than a regular diner/franchise restaurants but the food quality definitely makes up for it. I am recommending this place for the foodies out there, do go there to try the medium duck!
Overall a pleasant experience. Service was excellent and the place was super busy so you do have a time constraint (if you are part of a chatty group :)) on how long you can spend there. We spent 3 hours there on a Thursday evening and had to leave due to the next reservation. Appetizers were excellent. We tried all the dumplings and the octopus. All excellent. The brancino for the main course was excellent. Wanted to try the popular duck L'orange but it was a bit chewy for my taste and under done (hence the 4 star). I had asked for medium well. It could just be me. Loved the blueberry tart for dessert...lightly sweet and delicious. Parking is street side and we easily found some right in front of the restaurant for a 530pm dinner on a Thursday.
Verve has to be one of the best restaurants in Somerville. Great vibe inside and out. The picture below is the Braised Beef Short Rib with an unbelievable Smoked Old Fashioned. You've got to come to this place! Prohibition style. Unreal. Lounge upstairs. Be sure to make reservations for the restaurant.
Great French fusion spot in Somerville. The dumplings and escargot were two of my favorites!
Food, service and atmosphere were great. Not so great was - at 6pm on a weekday - the amount of time it took for appetizers to arrive and then another long wait for main courses. Most bothersome was the "administrative fee" levied for using a credit card for a $100 per person meal. (Who carries $500 cash to go to dinner?) $48 is already plenty for a pork chop, but I'd suggest raising it's price to $50 over charging a vig.
Good: creme brulee, lobster bisque* Ok: miso salmon, gratin potatoes, duck Asterisk because I enjoyed it but it was not at all what I was expecting. The lobster bisque was more tomato bisque with some lobster in it rather than lobster bisque. It was enjoyable once I stopped being disappointed that it wasn't what I expected from lobster bisque. The flavor on the duck was nice but I found it to be somewhat gristly and required a lot of chewing with the indigestible "meat bubblegum" texture left at the end. The salmon was cooked a little under with the center still having the raw fish texture (rather than just lightly translucent) and the fried rice they served with it had an incredibly greasy texture like the pan/oil wasn't hot enough and it all got absorbed into the rice. The gratin potatoes were not as flavorful as I expected and very heavy. The creme brulee was also lightly flavored though you could see the speckles from the vanilla bean which was nice. Overall it wasn't a bad meal, but for the price I definitely expected better. As a side note (not part of the rating) you can hear the conversations from every table which can make it an unpleasant experience.
Love the drinks and food but honestly def horrible experience with Dylan … was mean and making fun of me for no reason. I get it that bartenders have a bit and put on a show for tips but he was mean to me to the point where I left because he wouldn’t drop the act. All I asked was if he knew any good places near by that he recommended and he kept insulting and egging on me. My friends even agreed it was excessive and he should have dropped the act a long time ago. He insulted me on my drink choice, I asked for recommendations and he kept egging on me … that was no problem but it never stopped Outside of Dylan, I really enjoyed my time with Lay (not sure his full name) but he was always very sweet and nice from the beginning and was always respectful each time I’ve been here. I’ll definitely come back but this bartender definitely ruined my most recent experience.
Quality of food has gone down since last time I was here. This used to be hi-end restaurant. Wild mushrooms soup was bland; Escargots are not with the typical french green garlic butter; Mama Verve Crab Cake as entrée was crab cakes on a arugula/cherry tomatoes salad (!), which I find unacceptable for the price and the crab cakes seemed far from high end lump meat crabcake; Parisian Style Cheesecake was excellent!; the blueberry tart cream was too runny; Service was good; I was looking so much forward to come back and was disappointed.
Appetizers of octopus and crab cake were great. The ahi tuna was fabulous. The steak was disappointing. I got medium rare like I asked but it was tough, under seasoned and dry. For a $36 steak I expected more.
Food: 3/5 - The food was good but I expected much more from an elegant establish such as themselves. Service: 3/5 - With the expectations of fine dining there were a few miscues from our waiter. The biggest one was that we needed to ask for bread. NOTE: The food and atmosphere are good but for the money, there are much better experiences out there.
Came here for our anniversary. Was really looking forward to the experience due to the menu and previous reviews. First of all, the ambience was super cool. Definitely a fun and easy going vibe. Second, the service was wonderful. Very responsive and happy to explain the menu items. Unfortunately those were the biggest positives. The food left us really disappointed. Got the crispy pork belly appetizer. The glaze on the pork belly didn’t really work for us. Also the scallion pancake underneath was so hard that you could barely cut it was a knife. For entrees we got the burger and the sea bass. The burger was cooked as requested but didn’t come with any lettuce tomato onion. It didn’t say it came with that on the menu, but I would think that’s a relatively standard accompaniment to a burger. Maybe the waiter could’ve asked if that was wanted. The burger was overall just OK. The fries were super yummy - reminded us of five guys (that’s a compliment). The sea bass was pretty disappointing. The only taste was on the crust - but the rest of the fish was pretty bland. By the end of the meal we didn’t want to risk getting a dessert for concerns it would be as disappointing as the rest of the meal. A final positive, the drinks were pretty solid. Lots of positive reviews so maybe was just an off night, but we won’t be returning.
Seated at 7:15 PM and entrées did not arrive until 8:55. Pork belly appetizer was dry and lacked flavor. Ordered the duck aujus but there was no aujus and it was dry and it was also missing the kale and toasted pecans it was supposed to come with. The bar was out of several ingredients needed for both of of the mixed drinks I wanted. Hubs had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly and was flavorful but again a little dry, thank goodness for the gravy. The hostess was kind and we were seated immediately for our reservation. The ambience was very nice and the place was bustling. The wait staff was professional. The plating was very elegant. We were super excited to try it after hearing great things from friends and reading great reviews but unfortunately it didn’t live up to its reputation for our visit.
The website looked great but our dining experience left much to be desired. Two of the signature cocktails on the seasonal menu were not available and the two we had fell flat. My wife and I each had ahi tuna special which was served on a cold hashbrown topped with caramelized onions (not noted in the description) and a cold piece of foie gras, which was completely inedible. Too many good restaurants in Somerville, won't be going back.
i’ve been coming to Verve in Somerville for years, drawn by its reputation for French cuisine and elegant bistro vibes. But lately, it feels like the soul of the place has shifted—and not in a good way. It’s not that the food is bad—it’s just not what Verve promised. If you’re looking for a true French dining experience, this isn’t it anymore. The ambiance still whispers “Paris,” but the plate says “fusion,” and not in a way that feels intentional or cohesive. Verve used to be a gem for lovers of French cuisine. Now, it’s just another spot chasing culinary trends. Disappointed, but hopeful they’ll find their way back drinks are still great
We went for Valentine’s Day Probably not a good idea regardless Food came out cold for $550.00 , not impressed!! My biggest issue was how disgusting the bathrooms were … dated and gross … you would think that a high end restaurant if that is what they are would have bathrooms that we clean and updated… I have been in biker bars, taverns pubs etc that had better facilities and matching charm I won’t be going back
Food was average at best, but the portions were ridiculously small for the price, plus it was served cold for half our party and had to be sent back. Drinks were very over priced and under sized. The waiter was nice but not overly attentive.
