Opinions de Sutton County Steak House Sonora
Some of the best tasting steak I've had. Great sear, fantastic seasoning. Wife and I got a steak for two deal that comes with two pounds of sirloin in 4-6 oz cutlets, two sides and rolls. When we mentioned to our waitress that we were going to make tacos with the leftovers, she brought us hot tortillas and salsa with the to-go box. Looking forward to visiting again next time we're in Sonora!
We really enjoyed this place. We stayed in the hotel next door which was our second stop on our road trip from Orlando, Florida to Los Angeles. We loved the deal you get where if you stay at the Motel 6, you can get a meal and a drink for $5. I got the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and a sweet ice tea. I'm not kidding when I say that the bacon, was the the bacon I've ever had. It was perfectly crispy without being burnt. The biscuits and gravy were also REALLY good. I totally recommend this place if you are lucky enough to pass by.
Awesome food! Even gave me an extra potato on account of them being small. Had the Chopped Sirloin and my husband ended up helping me with it because it was so good I couldn't deny him! Ha! Lovely homey feel and super polite staff. Love this place!
Great food. Last night we had the burgers and the onion rings .The onion rings were to die for .They dip them in buttermilk then the batter then back in the batter. So good. Then this morning came in for breakfast. Great pancakes and coffee. Felt like home. Great service .If your going thru Sonora or staying at the hotel next door like us be sure to eat here you wont be dissapointed.
For this place being in a small town it was really good. But what made it really great was the amazing customer service! They were very friend made it feel like we were part of the town family. We'll definitely stop by again when passing through.
We stopped in for lunch. The hostess was warm and welcoming. Hubby orderd the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and it one of the best he has had in Tx. Service was good and the atmosphere was cozy. You may catch a few real life cowboys in their spurs having their lunch.as well.
14 oz Ribeye was a perfectly done medium rare! Country fried steak was thicker & tender, not chewy & over fried as I've had in other restaurants. Prices were very reasonable & server was very friendly!
My husband and I travel to Texas every year to photograph wildlife, Sutton Steakhouse is the Best!! I love the chicken fried steak, green beans (made the southern way with bacon grease, ham and onions) and the chocolate pie 😋 is the best I ever had!!!
Wow! Stopped here on my way across the country, and had the fried catfish with grilled mixed vegetables. Best catfish I’ve had, and awesome vegetables! The catfish had a crispy cornmeal breading that was seasoned and not greasy at all. The veggies were also seasoned well and there was a nice variety of them. Great sweet tea, too. Service was awesome! Next time I pass through Sonora, I will definitely stop to eat here again. Thank you for a great meal!
The food was great. This seems to be a family owned and operated business. I believe I encountered two of the family during my visit. Both of those family members made my experience wonderful. The drinks were kept full, the server checked back appropriately to see if I needed anything else. If I pass through Sutton County again, I'll enjoy another steak at this fine place.
Delicious steaks at truly reasonable price. My husband had tenderloin and I had filet mignon. Side vegetables were cooked beautifully. We each had a glass of Merlot that was surprisingly delicious for $3.50 a glass. A nice experience as we are passing through on a road trip. Service was warm and friendly.
Didn’t eat here, only had a couple of cocktails during happy hour. Great service and good drinks!
OMG! This place will always be my place of choice. I had the Steak Bits and they were AWESOME! No bone cut into perfect mouth size bites. The place was clean and decorated well. They have an additional 2 rooms for seating. There were plenty of customers for lunch and I had no complaint on the service. Look at the photos of the Steak Bits and potatoes and gravy. You wont be disappointed!
The Ribeye was so fresh and seasoned perfectly. A must when you are in the area!!
Stopped by 10 min before closing. Staff was very friendly. Cute atmosphere. The food was DELICIOUS. I ordered a chicken Swiss sandwich. My husband ordered the Sutton County gourmet burger. We also took dessert for the way home. Very pleasant experience. Thank you.
The chicken wrap with fries + side of guacamole and the hamburger with fries were excellent. Service was very good. $3 Corona's went down nice. The washroom was very clean and smelled nice. A gem to stop at in Stockton.
Great place with excellent wait staff, friendly, courteous and quick. The food was fresh and delicious, recommend the steak salad. It’s loaded with steak! I just loved the decor too. Thanks for the pleasant Dining experience
Visited here over a month ago when flooding in the area had just occurred a few weeks prior. The people were friendly, had positive attitudes about rebuilding and about good things their community. Breakfast was out fast for a group of 10. Good food, friendly service, great prices.
Today was excellent. Food was spot on. Sylvia, our waitress, never let our drinks empty and took great care of us.
My wife and I had KC steak for two, it was more like KC steak for six. Perfect for those who are on the carnivore diet. Taste was great, meat was tender. If ever in Sonora again, we will definitely stop by.
UPDATE... I'm still flying to Sonora every Friday, and the Sutton County Steakhouse is my "go-to" destination. Love it! ------------------------ My girlfriend and I flew our private plane to the Sonora Airport today to have lunch at the Sutton County Steakhouse which provided a buffet (on Fridays and Sundays) that included tasty fried catfish, tender steaks, and all the fixings. They also have a full menu in addition to the buffet. Excellent flavor and value, and the staff was courteous and timely. We will definitely visit again soon.
We had been "off the grid" for several days and went to the nearest town for an adaptor. This place had been recommended by our guide at Sonora Caverns. The onion rings were amazing. I got a wrap that was surprisingly delicious; it was a yuppie thing to order but the cook did a wonderful job. We came back for breakfast on our way back home.
Everything was amazing. Good food, friendly staff, awesome prices. I highly recommend if your wanting any kind of beef. The burgers are lean, the meat is juicy, Same with the steaks. One of the best cuts of beef I've had in a long time, well worth the price. So if you're ever passing through stop in and check'em out 💕
We have been eating at Sutton County Steak House since it opened and we go out of our way when we are on the road to make sure we eat there!!! Breakfast, lunch, and evening meals are always great, especially the chicken fried steak. Great Staff and just good people!! I'll be eating there again soon.
We had a great experience with Sutton County Steak House on our way home from a trip. Will stop back by as often as we can.
This is our go-to restaurant when traveling through Sonora. Nice combination of country style dishes, some with a Mexican influence which I like. My usual is the ranchero chicken fried steak. All of their steaks are high quality and fresh.
An awesome little gem! Sunday I had the buffet. They had chicken fried steak, lasagna, and steak. All was outstanding. Also green beans, mashed taters, and white gravy.
This place wont disappoint! Very very good food. Great service! Extremely nice staff! Ive been here 3 times and its always consistent. This place cant be beat in this area! Give them a try you wont be disappointed!
What a nice dining experience! Our waitress was on point and very nice plus accommodating. I am pescatarian so I had the fried shrimp W/Mixed vegetables. My husband had the chicken fried steak! Super good food! Actually very surprised. Oh! We were a table of 9!
We had an amazing lunch with friends. It was our first visit and we were blown away by the delicious food . Chicken fried steak was perfect! Everyone was super friendly. Our server was Jaunita and she was just great! We will definitely be back and will recommend to others. Thank you!!!!
Great Ribeye and baked potato! Prices on Google appear to be outdated, and the nice, very young, waitress could use more training.
Ok I don't understand the negative reviews. Other than a lil wait for food (nothing drastic or super long) this place was awesome. We had fried mushrooms as an appetizer and split exit 400 wrap with sweet potato fries and everything was flavorful, fresh and just plain good. No salt or pepper needed. Would definitely stop again on travels.
It does look like a hole-in-the -wall but the food was great and reasonably priced. The cheeseburger was awesome. My husband got the buffet and everything was good. The only thing I thought wasn’t as good as the rest of the food was the mashed potatoes.
Very tasty place to eat. Lots of options including buffet. Great service, fresh food always. I went on a Thursday and Friday and buffet had sirloin tips and chicken spaghetti one day and the next day was catfish buffet with shrimp and okra and etc etc. Soooooo good and only $10 for buffet which includes your drink and tax. Amazing
The steak was delicious, the staff was very friendly, and the price was reasonable. What more could you want? I stopped during a road trip from California to Florida, and it was the best meal we had in 4 days. Definitely would recommend!
Great steak!! Baked potato came with all the fixings on the side, no extra charge. Ribeye was cooked perfectly and how I asked for it.. Granddaughter had a cheeseburger.. first bite and get face lit up with a smile.. no words needed, she was in heaven. Will stop again when passing through.
This is quite a friendly place to stop for a delicious home cooked meal. The grilled veggies are special, the chicken fried steak is perfect as well. Family dining with healthy options. Delicious! There is a fenced dog run adjacent to the motel for your dogs to stretch their legs. It is heavily shaded, important during the summer months. I enjoyed meeting the staff here, they are energetic, friendly, and very good at their jobs. Thanks y’all for a relaxing, fabulous lunch. This is my new rest stop for the long runs on I 10. Bonus points here for serving cocktails, beer & wine.
Another great find, thanks to the Google Maps reviewers. Came in at 7:30 pm and were welcomed by the hostess and waitess. We had chicken fried chicken, sweet potato fries, and grilled vegetables. Our food was outstanding! I usually take a lot of pictures, but the food looked so good I forgot to snap photos of our food. This restaurant has lots of space and is well decorated. Come in and have a great meal.
Ordered 12 ounce filet medium rare with fries. The steak portion was considerably larger than 12 ounces. More than I could eat. Cooked to proper temp. My waitress (Desiree] went out of her way to insure a pleasant dining experience. Casual, no nonsense atmosphere. I will definitely visit again on my next trip from Houston to Big Bend.
We visited Sunday Aug 6, 2023 for lunch and tried the buffet (Fridays and Sundays only) and it was delicious and filling. Located conveniently right on I-10 in Sonora, TX Dining rooms and restrooms were very clean. Staff was friendly and our waitress was very attentive. Sweet tea was yummy and refreshing on such a hot day. A/C was working well and dining area was comfortable. We were seated immediately (11:30 AM before church crowds) and had no wait or line to go to the buffet making lunch a relaxing yet speedy affair. Highly recommend this establishment and we’ll definitely eat here again!
The food was good and we had a very good waitress. Two things I didn't care for 1) margarine instead of butter 2) when we first arrived the music was blaring. Our waitress was kind enough to turn it down. But, when another waitress came on duty she went over and cranked that thing up. Our waitress went and turned it back down. When people go out to eat that is their social time and to have the music so loud is ridiculous.
I ordered a sirloin cooked medium. I got a very poorly cut steak that had a collar of fat on one side cooked to well. I freaked on seeing it, the waitress was sympathetic. Several minutes later the manager approached me knowing there was a problem. She had already ordered me a new steak though I was half done with my meal. I showed her the state of it, well done and un-trimmed. I got a new steak a bit later, 3 tumes as large. It was a Frankenstein cut, still fat ridden an now mid rare, more inedible than the first. I was truely thankful for the try but it was an epic fail. I thanked them profusely but left unsatisfied. I know it's tough to get staff these days and just know they must have had a serious rookie cutting the steaks and cooking them. I feel bad. I've eaten here several times before and never had a bad meal and always got top notch service. I'm sure they will get better staff in the kitchen soon. Next time I come thru Sonora, TX I will go there again.
I have been to the Sutton County Steak House many times. The food that is offered here is very good in fact the steak is hard to beat, and I am very picky. But the reason that I only have it 4 stars is the wait staff could be improved. After I order they bring the food and that's it. They always let my drink run dry. I just feel for the price I'm paying that I could have some water to go with it.
Only had breakfast there. Staff were nice and welcoming. I had the "Hunters Special" and it was awesome. We stayed at the hotel next door, so we were able to choose one of five different plates for $5 .Will definitely be back!!
The food is usually pretty good. The last time, I ordered the chopped steak, and it wasn't up to their usual standards. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak and said it was one of the best she's ever had.
We shared an appetizer and patty melt. The chips and salsa were very good. The patty melt was the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our server was Flora. She was super friendly and attentive. The only negative is the place is a bit spendy.
This restaurant is probably your best bet in a 100+ mile radius. I don't understand the negative reviews. I stopped there last week on my way to Fort Stockton because the restaurant I used to go in Junction was closed. I had a light meal with soup and salad. It was good and cheap. Then I went back last night since I stayed at the days inn next door. This time I had the special which was a ribeye. The steak was juicy and middle rare just like I ordered and huge too! The waitresses are nice and friendly. I was pleased.
Nice people, great steaks! The cheese for my potato was very smelly and definitely off. Other than that everything was really good. Will definitely be stopping through again when traveling.
Stopped by here for the Sunday lunch buffet, it is $16.99 per person & includes drink & dessert. Today’s buffet included chicken fried steak, chopped steak & fried catfish. The veggies included green beans, fried okra & mashed potatoes. There were some here kinds of pie, lemon, chocolate & coconut. It was good food. We came here a few times years ago & the food was good but it smelled like cigarettes really bad back then. Now there is no cigarette smell at all. Only downside is that they charge a card processing fee but it is on you ticket when you get it so not a surprise & if you pay cash they remove the fee.
Quiet and friendly staff. Good food.
I always pass by an forget to stop until I’m down the road, but this time i remembered an it was well worth it… I was gonna get the Grilled Rainbow Trout, yet i rly have been wanting to try the Chicken Fried Steak & Grilled Mixed Veggies. I will say in advance the grilled veggies are zesty, the server forewarned me that it can be salty.the cook makes his own secret recipe for the seasoning…
The T-Bone steak is delicious! The veggie side was unusually tasty. My husband’s hamburger (Sonora Burger) was kind of plain. My father-in-law said the buffet was delicious. The decor is a cute mix of country chic and western, the service is very friendly, and the location is right off the highway.
Hands down the best Ribeye steak I've had outside my house in a very long time! The atmosphere is great. It's cute, quiet, and very country. If you're looking for breakfast, be sure to get here before 11 as that's when they stop serving it. The reason I'm taking one star away is for the restroom. It definitely wasn't the cleanest and there is no way to lock the stall door. Other than that, highly recommend a stop on if your looking for a great steak on a long drive.
For a steak house I would have thought they know how to do a medium steak. We ordered the KC for 3, the portions were large! But the steaks were all well done... huge no-no. Other than that, the service was good and prices very reasonable
Wife said this place was really good as she had been here many times before but several years passed since. 1 hour from home for us and never been here till today passing by to go home from Fredericksburg. Steak is never off the table for me when seeking a lunch stop so I agreed to stop here without hesitation. Glad we did. Nothing amazing or fancy. An old school steakhouse with a lunch buffet option or menu ordering. I was not feeling the fried catfish or chicken fried steak myself so went menu. Wife did the same. The server seemed a bit rushed in taking our orders but hey, it happens, busy place, I get it. I got the sirloin steak tips and grilled veggies as my side pick. Wife did the grilled chicken with bacon added but the bacon never came out, she never got charged for it so no loss I guess. My steak bites were really good, tender, medium, lean. Veggies were heavily soaked in olive oil for sur ebut beyond that good. $23 seemed a bit pricy for the meal I got with 1 side. $20 woulda been about right. Did have a good pound of cooked steak though so no complaint there. Wife said her sandwich was OK but not great. Homemade roll was nice but bacon and avocado with the chicken and swiss cheese woulda made it better she said. I'd think so too. Not the best steakhouse I have been to in the area but it is one I'd come back to again lets say.
The chicken was nicely grilled. I ordered the summer salad. We also ordered a mushroom burger. Our total was over $32. The quality was okay. Unfortunately other customers were very loud. Efficient waiter. I think the menu focus was on the states which range between 20 and $30
The food and service are less than enjoyable. My husband and I both ordered chopped sirloin. I requested to please make mine medium rare. Surprise both came back we'll done and dry..What good does it do to make a request at this restaurant. There were only 6-8 customers 2 Servers who both conveniently stayed in the kitchen. Hard to get service...if you eat here don't be surprised if your disappointed with your experience.
Stopped on way through texas and found on site. After stopping found out menus were outdated and didn't offer first three things we ordered. Probably won't stop again
To start me and two friends were in town and this place came recommended so we went to check it out. The atmosphere was nice. The staff was friendly. There's the two star part. The three of us each ordered a different dish as we all have different tastes. The food was by far mediocre at best. Especially for a place that claims "steak house". I ordered the chicken parmesan. The chicken itself was good. The sauce was bland. The cheese felt like shredded cheese that was microwaved on. One of my friends ordered steak. The taste was ok, but the downfall was that both the taste and texture both felt more like a pot roast. It was definitely not what you would expect for that price by any means. Even the dog, which usually loves steak, was hesitant at eating it. That's not an exaggeration at all. They did have a hectic day with an entire football team being in the dining area so we figured that maybe it was just an off day for the kitchen. We went back for breakfast the next morning to give it another go. The eggs were cooked alright. I don't think the cook understands the different type of egg cooking styles. The pancakes were good. I'll give it that. Bacon was nice and crispy. The hashbrowns however was the packaged type you would get from a grocery store. For the most part most of the food seems more store bought foods being passed off as home cooked steak house. I personally would not recommend this place at all.
I have been here a few times for the lunch buffet and for dinner. It ranged from BBQ, mexican food, and steak. There is a pretty big portion of food but everything I've had here is beyond bland. Not sure if they are scared to put spices on their food or what. Pretty sure the BBQ is cooked in the oven and the steak is either cooked in a pan or in the deep fryer. It's pretty rough. Fries were good.... Salad was good if that helps at all. Service has been very good each time.
Just want to post this, not to complain, but to give viewers a sense of what to expect. We are definitely foodies, and ribeyes are a favorite. We were very disappointed with our meals! We spent $60 for two ribeye dinners, and let me tell you if it were half that I'd still be disappointed. The steaks are fried on a flat grill, but that would have been ok if they were tender and flavorful. They were very tough and had no flavor exceptfor a greasy taste. The mashed potatoes are instant and not the good instant either. Blah...The meals only come with one side, which for the price in a place like this was weird. Wish we had made a different choice tonight.
Ordered the 12ounce filet, but received two smaller pieces held together by the strip of bacon around the outside. Ultimately ordering my steak “rare” and it was cooked to medium well (if I’m being generous). Baked potato was way over cooked. My son ordered the ribeye and his was cooked nicely. Waitress was friendly, but they seem preoccupied with something else going on during our visit…
Portion was ok on the burger. Ratio of patties to bread was on point but the patties were unfortunately salty salty. Chicken fried steak plate could of used finesse.. gravy was on the bottom of the patties so much of it it looked messy sloppy . Mashed potatoes were watery almost like boxed kind. No roll included. These entrees usually do. A side salad would be great too for that price. Waitress was too preoccupied to make conversation or eye contact. This restaurant needs decor or something to make it pop.
Got chicken fried steak-not the worst i ever had and not even in the same universe as best. Hell i make better chicken fried steak than this and i am youtube gutter cook at best White gravy bland Meat "crust" had no rise what so ever. Looked like they used protein press on a flat grill. Flavor had slight hint of black pepper nothing else. Kiddy portion meat and 1 veggie side. Color was light brown chewy does describe it. Honestly I would had more filling flavorfull supper if i would had stayd at the truck stop and chanced thier fried chicken and paid alot less Staff was very nice. You will walk away hunger.
We ordered Steaks, the salad was extra charge, when we go the salad there was soup there too, we had a bowl of soup with our $3,95 charge. When we got our steaks, one was cooked right, the steak ordered med. rare was well done. Sent it back, the second steak was still over cooked. The steak didn't taste good. When we went to pay, they charged us for soup and salad at 7.99 each. Was not told by the waitress that the soup was not included. Will no eat there again.
I orded the ribeye and it was terrible! My steak was pan fried not grilled or charbroiled and over cooked. The appetizer of fried mushrooms was really good and they gave you more than enough... the lemon meringue pie was probably 3 days old at least! Our waitress wasn't hardly around and when she was I felt rushed like I was wasting her time. Today is my birthday and this was my birthday dinner! Our bill for 2 of us was $70 and the meal wasnt worth $20. I don't mind paying high dollar for a good meal but this wasn't the case here. I'm very disappointed and won't be back.
This was not good! Waitress took order and brought bill, nothing in between! Food was overpriced and not good! Ordered $20 ribeye but it was a country fried steak texture full of pepper! It was so far off from being a quality piece of meat in anyway! My suggestion is to eat anywhere else but not here! The truck stop across the street was actually way nicer!
This place is horrible. It took them 45 minutes to make our appetizer. The server never check up to see if we were OK or to give us an explanation for why the food was taken so long. We ordered steaks medium rare when they came to the table they were well done. We had to ask for our refills each time. The bad thing is it's the only steakhouse in town.
Stopped at this place for dinner the filet minion was not soft too much pepper the mashed potatoes had too much pepper and were warm, the vegetables were good and dinner salad was good…
Great food. But rude people work there. I recommend if you want a good atmosphere. Do not eat there if you want to deal with rude people. And that's not that clean anyways, either. It's kind of dirty.
The food was way -way over priced. They fries were obviously frozen and not cut in house. The Steak bits were to salty and the med rare was Not the med rare widely known. I had 3 beers they were nice and cold. The toast was soggy from the steak bits. The salad bar was not as fresh as I expected. The service was good but she forgot straws and was very busy in the back ,I was not sure if my waitress was actually my cook. My wife had the stir fry and left the plate full of food. The baked potato was ok she said. I usally give a place a second chance. But 51.07 for 2 people based on flavor and experience Not Good. Not coming back So sorry Sutton County Steak House thumbs down.
Maybe it was just a bad day for the location but there were no plates or silverware. The severs were obviously short staffed but they would still sit you down and say they were going to take care of you. Chose to eat the buffet since we were never brought menus, half the buffet stayed empty.
