Opinions de Blue Bottle Coffee South B St
We really like this restaurant. The food is wonderful and the service very kind and professional. We highly recommend this place.
Incredibly generous and helpful staff, omotenashi. The winter blend was an excellent suggestion for the colder morning in San Mateo while walking to the park. I enjoy fruit flavors more in my coffee but the silky smoothness, nutty almond like flavor and warming feel of the winter blend is very satisfying.
Friendliest servers in the Bay Area. Great place to work. But, there are no plug sockets if you want to charge your laptop.
Always great coffee and a nice atmosphere to study or to catch up with friends. Rarely a line
Coffee, pound cake, and seating were all enjoyable, though it’s worth noting there are no outlets available in the shop, which makes it less convenient for working or studying. Overall, the experience was good. The server seemed a bit busy and slightly impatient, but it was understandable given the crowd, and the service was still efficient. I ordered a hot matcha latte and a pistachio pound cake. The matcha latte had a nice balance — not too sweet, with a smooth finish — and the pound cake was flavorful and comforting. It tasted even better after I asked them to reheat it, which brought out the nuttiness and made it softer. The atmosphere was cozy, though it could feel a little crowded during peak hours. A solid spot if you’re looking to enjoy quality coffee and a good pastry in a relaxed environment, but perhaps not the best place if you need to work for long periods.
Such a spacious location, lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Their coffee is impeccable, so silky and smooth, and the matcha is too. Their drinks come in reusable glasses which are so lovely! The baristas were very friendly and nice, and the drinks came quickly. Also a great location in downtown San Mateo.
Stopped by Blue Bottle in downtown San Mateo—Really nice spot on B st. Lots of seating and open space. The Iced oat latte I ordered was smooth and not too sweet. Thanks! Anthonyxibarrax
Upscale/High End coffee shop conveniently located in downtown San Mateo. Plenty of indoor seating, immaculately clean, wonderful drinks and friendly staff! It can be a little pricey but I like to think of this place like a Starbucks but much better with higher quality coffee and care put into their drinks. In order to conserve the environment, they now default to using oat milk in their drinks by default, but this makes everything much better. Highly recommended if you’re looking to enjoy a coffee in a clean and spacious environment with friendly people and good coffee.
Love going here. I generally order some items on the app as they have some exclusive deals and then you don’t have to wait in line. The New Orleans iced coffee is my personal favorite. I also really like the new date iced coffee. I believe it’s a seasonal flavor.
Stopped by for my morning latte. Was meeting a friend at B st and spent some time here to wait and enjoy a couple of lattes. Service was great!
Nice and cozy coffee shop in the town that allows people to talk. I got the ice Nola cold foam and it was really good not too sweet and perfect for the winter.
The drinks are always delightful and the staff are all so kind! Definitely a wonderful spot to stop by for a coffee.

One of the best espressos I’ve had in San Mateo. Alex, the barista, did an incredible job. I’ve traveled to 41 countries, and the best espresso I ever had was in Cape Town. Today, Blue Bottle came remarkably close to recreating that feeling the closest I’ve experienced in the last two decades.

Love the light in this place with the huge windows. No comfy seating but plenty of space. Enjoyed a flat white and avocado toast (the bread is so yummy).
The coffee is excellent. Snacks as well (I recommend the blondies). The staff is friendly and warm. The walls, ceiling, and floor are hard and flat so noise is a real issue. Conversation over a cup of coffee is difficult. You're better off stepping outside.
Absolutely excellent coffee. But I saw a huge, hyper and poorly behaved doodle type dog put its paws up on the counter where food is handed to clients. This is a health code violation. Edit: Blue Bottle customer service and the county dept. of health seemed to take my report of the incident seriously.
It’s a aesthetically simple and nice coffee shop in San Mateo downtown. I went early morning for breakfast Ambience- calm and soothing. Nice spacious space .. being in the downtime it’s quite lively and vibrant . Service - The staff is nice. Service is good. The staff helped me with the menu and understanding coffees and their flavours. Coffee - was nice ..they tried to make it to my taste. Washrooms available Wheelchair accessible
This was my first time trying these coffee and it was amazing. It’s a cozy coffee shop. Usually busy and their service is good. I got a caffe mocha latte and it was fresh and soothing. Their coffee is definitely unique and the dark chocolate ganache combo elevated my coffee experience. Overall must try.
Blue Bottle is usually a solid spot to grab a coffee and a bite. This one is quite a nice shop. A beautiful space, solid coffee, and decent food. My only real complaint is that a small (no syrup) iced coffee and a tiny breakfast sandwich was $20 before even tipping. I’m not sure if I could justify a return visit at that kind of price.
A good coffee shop with good coffee and nice atmosphere to take a break and chit chat. I would give the food 5 star if the barista didn’t mix up my order. I asked for iced caffe latte. The one who took my order nodded but what I received was hot latte. It was not crowded yet I waited 10 minutes to get my coffee. This made me give up asking for my coffee to be remade. Sorry, I didn’t want to stand there waiting forever.
The coffee is really good, the best in San Mateo. They recently opened their indoor seating…but there NO PLUGS, come on…can’t even charge my phone if need be. If people working in your coffee shop is an issue, just add less plugs or limit wifi use to an hour or say no laptops? What is the thinking behind not adding plugs to your seating area.
Service is friendly and drinks were quick to come out when I visited at 5:40PM on a Friday. I made my selection quickly and appreciated that they didn't rush me! $7 + tip for a coffee is definitely splurgy for me, so I only try to indulge ever so often. I like to order the Shakerato with oatmilk, because it's a great balance of coffee, milk, and sweetness to me. I don't mind paying premium once in a while, because I definitely enjoy it and I *know* I will finish it, which is hard to say for more coffee drinks. The space is beautiful, but there is only outdoor seating and takeout at the moment.

Good location. Friendly staff. Cafe latte. It’s a place to zone out in the morning once a while.
This space is filled with wooden surfaces and no sound dampening anywhere , making it very loud to work in without good headphones. I don’t see outlets by many of the tables. The coffee was nothing to write home about, though I’ve heard good things and expectations were high.
I love blue bottle coffee, I even use their beans in my coffee machine at home. This branch is not my favorite, the coffee is not made with the standards of blue bottle coffee in general. I go there often, I order either americano or lattes with whole milk or oat or almond and I never enjoy it, the milk is never foamed with perfection and the coffee not tasty, maybe the baristas need more training. However the place is spacious, the team is friendly and we enjoy sitting there either inside or outside.
I have given this place a few tries every few months. The coffee is really good, and I've been trying the breakfast foods, which so far have been delicious. My issue with this location is lack of customer service, not so friendly staff that ignore you for a while until you call their attention. No greeting when you arrive, no thank yous when you leave. The place is super clean, though. Will try again in a few months and see if staff is different.
Food and coffee are great (although still a bit overpriced in my opinion). My biggest problem with this place is the lack of outlets. There isn’t a single outlet in the entire shop. Also the wifi is incredibly slow and unsecured.
Drinks were fine and service was quick. I would recommend not sitting here to work though. The wifi is incredibly slow and the whole store was awkwardly cold.

The espresso was burnt and bitter - either they didn't dial in the beans correctly or the barista doesn't know how to pull a shot. Considering they make you pay $6.25 for a 6 oz cup of coffee it's kind of ridiculous that the coffee is bad. Their serveware is also old and has wear and tear on it from use. This place does not match its price tag.

I had been wanting to try a Blue Bottle Coffee and had time to visit this location on a break between errands yesterday around lunchtime. I was in a good mood and excited to try a new coffee place. $6 for a small coffee was a bit jarring, but I figured I’d at least give it a try. I will also give it to them that it’s a pour over by hand so that counts for something I guess. The coffee was fine (tastes quite a bit like Peet’s, IMO) but the service and ambiance were through the floor. Look, I’ve worked in the service industry for years as a waiter and also as a barista and manager at an independent coffee shop for 4 years. I know coffee and I know coffee shops — if not better than most — at least in a different way than most. I also know that working in the service industry is brutal at times, customers can be terrible and thankless, and I am grateful to those who do this essential work. When I tell you, though, the two baristas looked truly miserable working here. I was torn between feeling bad for them that they work at such a bad job or feeling bad for their employer that they’re spreading such bad vibes. Are they going for like aloof, NYC-server vibes and it’s just reading as arrogance and misery? Im not saying baristas need to be chipper and smily or anything like that but at the point that you’re interacting with customers like they’re an annoyance and interrupting your chill time - that’s a problem. I shouldn’t feel bad for ordering a coffee. Lol. I tipped well (bc barista karma), there was no line and I was the only customer they were preparing a drink for and it was just a simple, black coffee. I would understand if I had ordered some really complicated drink or something. By the time I got my coffee about 10 minutes later (nope - they didn’t start making my drink despite both of them seeming otherwise unoccupied) my mood was kinda spoiled tbh and I was distracted by hoping that the baristas can both find a workspace that makes them happier. The ambiance was not homey or inviting - I guess they’re going for a more sterile, Swedish look. That’s fine - it is bright and open, I will give them that. No electrical outlets is definitely a decision, though, and suggests they don’t want their customers to stay. I got out of there ASAP and went somewhere more positive. I’ll hit up another Blue Bottle location sometime soon in hopes of a better experience.

Just a honest review of the coffee. The coffee flavor is good but what brings the coffee down is the temperature. For me a good coffee has great beans but also has the right high temperature. Another down of this location is their wifi is very slow compared to the cafes nearby, would def suggest higher speed wifi but hey that was just my experience. Great vibe though, really beautiful and surrounded by windows. Also a plus is the staff, they are absolutely professional.
Have you ever felt awful for ordering cappuccino with whole milk? I did today at this location. I was told they didn’t have it or they were out of it (it was hard to read the stone face) and “by the way, oat milk is our default”. 🙃
I stopped this morning around 6ish am to garp my coffee. This is the second time I have been treated poorly by one of the baristas. This White girl with braided ponytail was so rude. Not patient, rushing me . Handed my the pastry in a bizarre way. Not sure what her issue is? I hope not because of my color or race.specially she were nice to other white customer.Did not felt welcome or comfortable at all.
Not a great experience. The cashier was very rude. Also I specifically asked for decaf and oat milk for my mocha as I am sensitive to caffeine. But neither of those was honored in my order. For a premium coffee chain with premium prices the least they can do is prepare the right order
First time visiting. I ordered a latte, and despite no queue and two staff working, it took far too long. Very disappointed with the service.
The servers were rude, refusing our request to warm the bread citing that the microwaves were closed for the day. Do not recommend for this location for their service.

I had them grind coffee beans. I asked for medium grind. I opened the bag a couple of weeks later only to find the barista gave me espresso/fine grind. This is the second time this has happened! How hard is it know the different types of grind? It’s not rocket science, folks!
