Best place for breakfast! Their specials are a good deal and their staff is always friendly. The waffle combo special is the best deal. We need more of these traditional restaurants around. Good ol' restaurants that serve good food, have plenty of parking, don't have to wait 45 minutes for a table and not full of a bunch of hipsters taking pictures of themselves and their food for Instagram. Support independent places like this. AND WE DON'T NEED LOW COST HOUSING UNITS HERE!

Best family-owned diner in the area. I go regularly at night for their Napa Salad and garlic fries (always cooked just right by Gloria). Servers are friendly, although expect longer waiting times during their very busy weekend mornings.

We had our Grandkids with us last week and they were hungry. We decided to try Shakers. My grandkids loved the kids menu hamburger. They said it was so big and delicious and the fries were good too. They want to go back. I had the tastiest Grilled Chicken Sandwich and my husband's hamburger was amazing. We all loved Shakers and plan to return. We heard comments from other people that everything was great. I want to try the fish tacos. Don't hesitate to stop in South Pasadena and try Shakers. There's ample parking behind the restaurant.

We were quick to be seated, probably waited around 5 minutes since we walked in. I ordered the banana nut waffles and he got the eggs Benedict with hash browns. The food was great, not greasy and the portions were perfect.

Staff has always been very friendly and food has always been delicious. I don't think there's a single thing we've ordered that we didn't enjoy. My family and I have been here probably 10+ times since moving here in 2021. We love it here.

I stopped by to meet a good friend I hadn't seen in over two decades and I overestimated the amount of traffic I would hit and ended up arriving two hours early. I decided to sit at the countertop and asked for a cup of coffee. Although I was very interested in grabbing a slice of pie, I held off and enjoyed the fresh cup of brew. I did let the server and waitress know that I was waiting for someone and that I was quite early and at first we were okay. Three cups of coffee down (consumed at quite a slow pace to kill time) I received my check though I had not asked for it. I didn't think anything of it but by the time the third cup was done I was not offered a refill for about 20 minutes. Lucky someone, perhaps a manager or shift leader noticed I was out of my beverage and got the waitress to serve me one more cup. I expected to be charged per cup but the price was actually very reasonable. I paid the check just in we and decided to refrain from any more refills (plus four cups of coffee is a lot - should have probably asked for decaf) Luckily my friend arrived as I finished my coffee and we were seated at a table. I ordered the Salmon, rice and veggies along with a slice of zucchini bread which I had never had before elsewhere; it was quite delicious, I recommend it. We spent about an hour catching up after dinner (about 30mins eating) which means I spent about 3.5 hours at this restaurant and was not rushed out or asked to leave (not that it was done intentionally, of course). Other than the awkward moment with the coffee, I liked the place so much that my friend and I decided to stop by on s more regular basis. I look forward to trying out some more of the various dishes they have available. Oh and I'll be back for that slice of pie I ended up skipping .

This diner is such a gem! The people who come to eat here look like they’ve been regulars for many years, and the restaurant hosts and servers treat everyone like they’re family. The zucchini bread really is as good as everyone says! Because I’m trying to eat more healthy, I order the Napa Salad and substitute the chicken with the salmon. This dish is delicious!!! I’ve also had the farmer’s egg white vegetarian omelette, and substituted the hash browns with fresh fruit, and this was really tasty as well. We like coming here at least every couple weeks. If you’re looking for a great breakfast, brunch and lunch spot (they have dinner too!) with delicious food and a warm atmosphere, come to Shakers, and leave with a loaf of zucchini bread for the next morning with your coffee.

Outdoor patio is available until 9am but other than that, their food is delicious and their ham "sooo good" lol like the name on their menu 🤤 my family enjoyed, steak and eggs, ham eggs and hashbrowns, egg with chorizo and a breakfast burrito. Highly recommend this place. Less crowded weekday mornings but such a nice place to enjoy breakfast with the family outdoors 🥰

Very fine diner establishment. The eggs were bomb, coffee was fire and the staff was delightful. The bathroom had Stone Temple Pilots playing loud randomly enough. But for the most part you know what you’re getting here. Lots of old heads but would again.

I miss the Shakers that used to be in Glendale. And I stumbled upon the Pasadena one just recently and couldn't wait to find an opportunity to drop by. That happened today, I had a tuna melt with sweet potato fries and an Arnold Palmer. I asked them to hold the tartar sauce on the tuna melt, and it was a fine sandwich. One of my favorites. The sweet potato fries were really crispy. And they sent me home with a to-go cup of my drink. The waitress was very sweet and helpful and attentive. It's a great diner.

Every time I eat here, I don’t just enjoy the food. The staff are so kind and generous, which makes you want to come again. dining on the weekends is the best. You can literally see the South Pasadena community sitting in the classic diner booths. From the elderly men to the little ones who just finished their soccer game. Truly an experience!

Finding diner type restaurants is hard in LA but Shakers has enough variety and an all day breakfast so it works….. great staff and service and good food. Dinner is good too. All the things you’d expect available like meat loaf and burgers. And turkey dinner. And….they make killer banana nut bread which you get with most meals.

I just love Shakers. It's an old-school family diner with an empasis on comfort and service. Some of the servers have worked here for years and I understand them to be happily employed by a thoughtful family-owned business. The food is creative; it's not just boring fare. Everyone can find something they like on this gigantic menu, I highly recommend their main dishes and their longstanding #legendary carrot cake, without raisins, yay! Easy parking lot, really nice people.

I love this place, I always get the country fried steak and waffles. Gravy is delicious and the waffles are crispy. Service is quick and always pleasant. They also make a good Michelada. Wherever they move to, I'll follow.

Just stopped by to buy their signature carrot cake. Asked to have it cut in half, and it was explained they didn't do that. However, since I was splitting it with my cousin who was heading in another direction, we explained the situation and the were kind and accommodating. We just had to pay a dollar for the box. We got the cake home. It was scored in a way that was partly design and partly a guide for measuring out portions. Personally I found the cake too sweet and the carrot imvisible...tasted more like pumpkin bread...but my cousin loved it. I also found some hard bits. I think they were shell fragments from walnuts or some kind of nut, so I took two stars off. But I'd definitely revisit to try the food...its an old school place like Bobs big boy or a Dennys or Carrows with a nice counter...lots of local regulars...looked like fun retro diner fare.

Retro '50s restaurant, a burnished version of your "go-to" neighborhood diner. Has been a South Pasadena treasure for decades! Pies go flying out the door, especially @ Thanksgiving, Christmas, and major feast days. Their zucchini bread and carrots cake sells out! Wait staff know regulars by name. First-timers are treated like family. Extensive, eclectic menu carries you through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Enormous parking lot that gets crowded, even on weekdays. Only caveat: high ceilings, coupled with wood furniture, and lots of glass= noise. There's the hum of animated chat coupled with the clank of happy diners digging in. Hint: go for the upholstered booths near the back entrance. It tends to be less noisy.

I highly recommend stopping by and experiencing it for yourself. If you’re looking for a place with old-school charm and character, this is absolutely a must-visit. It’s a space filled with memories, and it still lingers in my mind long after each visit. The food has remained just as consistent as the atmosphere—good prices, familiar dishes that haven’t changed over the years, and reliable service. Many of the servers seem to have worked here for a long time; I’ve seen the same faces over the years, and that says a lot. I truly hope places like this continue to exist for many years to come. It’s the kind of restaurant you can always return to feeling comfortable and at ease. And their zucchini bread is absolutely fantastic. Parking is never a concern, as they have a very large parking lot.

We had a wonderful dinner here tonight! We loved everything we had, especially a special they had due to the upcoming holiday, their Thanksgiving Sandwich, as well as a classic cheeseburger. We held the thousand island on the burger and added mustard, and received a beautifully cooked, great size, juicy patty on a fresh tasting bun. The bun wasn’t too dense, overall the ingredients and prep of both sandwiches just worked so well. We were really impressed. Chili had great flavor and seasoning, with nice accompaniments (diced white onion, sour cream, and a little portion of homemade garlic bread). Everything seemed high quality. We sat at the bar and watched many dishes on their way to other diners, and what we saw had us salivating. Will be back! One last thing, the vibe is amazing. If you love a retro diner feel you’ll love this place. It felt very Route 66, if that makes sense.

Had an excellent breakfast in Pasadena at a classic old school California coffee shop called Shakers. Loved my Southern fried steak & eggs. Biscuits & sausage gravy is included and it was a lot of food. Tasty gravy, full of flavor. I was almost able to finish it all. My friend said his Belgian waffle was perfectly cooked, crispy outside and fluffy tender within. If it was only closer I'd be there often.

Shakers shakers shakers, you need to shake yourself over to shakers right now because after eating I was shaking from how good the food and service was. There was a bit of a wait when I came around 9:45 am on new years eve, but it moved pretty quickly and I got a table within 10 minutes. We got drinks very quickly and our food only took about 5-10 minutes to come out. The sausage and egg plate was really good and came with hash browns and a choice of bread, the English muffin was really nice and the biscuit was super yummy 😋🤤😋🤤😋🤤. When I left around 11 there was a super long line so try to come earlier in the day. If you haven't tried this place, do yourself a favor and try it because it's always good to try new things and even if you don't like it it's okay. There is no such thing as a bad or good restaurant, it is completely opinion based and a restaurant is impossible to be defined by a 1-5 rating. That's devs words of wisdom as you enter the new year, your welcome. If you want me to add this to the end of every post pls thumbs up or heart this review. Thank you to all of my viewers for an amazing 2024, thanks to you guys I was able to buy a car and review even more places and I'm so so so so appreciative.

I would say Shakers is one of my favorite diners in Pasadena. I know there are not many, but this is definitely a stand out and in the top two best. Russell‘s being the other. It’s a true LA diner in the best sense of the word and is designed like the classic diner in LA with Googie architecture and a very retro vibe. I have zero reasons to give it less than 5/5 because we truly had a great brunch. I love the design on the inside, it has tons of different seating options and I appreciated how they have two person booths. Our server was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for our 10:30 AM Sunday brunch. They also have a giant free parking lot attached in the back so parking is very easy and plentiful. They have a giant menu that is filled with all sorts of diner classics. For my first visit, I chose the Strawberry Lemonade and was very happy that I ordered it. It’s just like the type that you ordered at Disneyland; it’s a regular lemonade with strawberry purée added. Best part is unlimited refills. For my meal, I chose the Country Benedict, which is turkey sausage on buttermilk biscuits with gravy on top. It was very filling and very delicious and I would definitely recommend to anyone stopping in for brunch. Overall, we had a great meal and I would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

It's a long time I haven't been to Shakers I remember the food was really good. My wife was telling me the food is really she often go to Shaker with her co workers for lunch. Now my wife and I going to Shakers for early dinner. The restaurant looks the same but it hasn't changed since I was here. We step in the restaurant and right away we got seated and the host hand us the menu and waitess came to order our drinks. Then we look at the menu and see what to order my wife decided to get the Shaker Delight burger with Sweet potato fries. I decided to get the California club with fruit cup. We got to watch the open ceremony of the world series with the tribute to Fernando Valenzuela it was nice and the waitess brought us our meal. My California club look so good then I took bite it was really good I can taste the avocado,bacon,turkey and toasted wheat bread combine together wow so much flavors including the mayo so good with avocado have that creamy taste it's mind blowing 🤯. The fruit cup I decided to get instead of the fries was a better choice a healthy choice. My wife enjoy her Shakers Delight burger she great flavors she love. But she love the sweet potato fries that a dipping sauce that is so addicted the flavors was good. The staff were very friendly including our waitess she kind and friendly.

I found this place on Google Maps and the restaurant was highly recommended by the guides whom I follow. I enjoy old school dinners. Shakers is a great comfort food restaurant. It's like traveling back in history with the decor and menu.They make homemade foods and desserts.Normally! I wouldn't order dessert after breakfast but the Staff recommended the desserts are very popular. The carrot cake I ordered was so good and not overly sweet. I will definitely return to try something else for lunch or dinner.

Solid diner option as evidenced by how busy it is. The food and service are good. Best for smaller parties. They have limited seating options for large groups (6+). The strangest thing to me is the sauce the comes on the party melt. It’s a combination of bbq and tartar sauce and it tastes spot on. Kind of weird to me but my wife liked it. Plenty of parking in their dedicated parking lot.

I hadn't been here in awhile. In years past, this was one of my favorite coffee shop restaurants though over the years the food steadily declined in quality. As a result of the pandemic, Shakers has tapered down the selection of food offered including the amazing aioli turkey sandwich and sliders with caramelized onions. Their prices have also increased as they have everywhere else. That said, I ordered the pot roast melt. The beef was very well prepared and delicious. The caramelized onions were excellent in flavor. I ordered a dinner salad which was highlighted by flavorful croutons.

I came to have dinner with my father. We've been coming to Shakers since 1990s. They have delicious food food and all types. They have tvs to watch the Dodger games or any type of sports. The waiting staff are polite and friendly. This place is always has customers when we go. I wasn't that hungry so I ate a chicken Cesar salad. I was very delicious and flavorful. The zucchini bread is delicious.

Shakers has got that classic LA Googie diner style vibe, which I adore as an architect nerd and the booth seating is so charming. You can tell there’s a lot of locals who have been coming here for decades. The food is quality is good, however as a vegetarian I wish there were a few more options. It’s surprising they don’t have a classic Benedict, so Foxy’s in Glendale is where I go for that dish. Definitely enjoy their classic zucchini bread and biscuits. They will sub veggie patty in the patty melt, which is super heavy, but yummy. Onion rings are superb! Now to the service: I used to be a server myself and I’m still trying to pin point why the service is so very slow here (maybe just too many stations). Whenever we go we prepare for it to be a very long dining experience. It would be awesome if the runners would refill coffee more as you wait, but everyone generally seems in scramble mode there. When the bar isn’t packed, you definitely get better service there. Regardless, we’re aiming to become the new generation of devoted locals. Thanks Shakers!

This is the first time I tried this restaurant. I was surprised the restaurant was quite busy on Monday morning around 9:30. I thought it must be decent to attract the locals. The waitress was friendly and asked me if I want a cup of coffee right after I sat down. It has a diner vibe. I ordered the Huevos Ranchero and it was delicious. I took a star off because the coffee was very watery like a diner's coffee. I hope the restaurant would invest in a barista to make good coffee.

I used to come to Shakers a lot as a teen. It's a staple in Dena. It's not the greatest food, but it's good, and employees are always friendly.

First time here for Breakfast/Lunch and I ordered the Shaker Delight Cheeseburger and Tater Tots. I enjoyed the tater tots, better than the burger. The bun fell apart middle of me eating it. My daughter had the blueberry pancake, She enjoyed that that put the blueberries in the pancake, not on top. My wife had to 2 eggs over hard. It was just okay in her opinion.

I w'd give it a 4 IF he waitress could be more friendly attentive...this old lady was inpatient giving me an attitude when I asked her about certain items on the menu. Not helpful or felt welcoming from her face...it must being a tough morning or nite b4 for her...(: The younger waitress in blk hair who greeted me was very pleasant tho. However, my Fish Taco came in fresh & delish served in 2 decent size of soft tacos filled w/fluffy crispy fried fish. Patio tables were not clean enough to be seated. This is my 1st visit after more than 20-yr ago or so...back in my college days then, we gals came over here in the late nite after parties! It's such a good old happy memory! Food does not disappoint.

We had ordered a chili cheeseburger and a steak sandwich. The waitress was extremely kind, and asked me how I wanted my burger and I asked for medium, and it was cooked well-done with zero pink in the middle. Not a huge deal, but the whole meal was very flavorless as if they didn't properly season anything. Now it was *bad* it just wasn't good either. Their major saving grace was the friendly service who definitely made the experience a lot better.

Typical diner food - the service staff were all very friendly. Feels homey but don’t expect the food to be that great.

Bruh. The food would have been 4 stars but the use maple breaky sausages without consent. What a terrible surprise. 2 thumbs down. Everyone else seemed to like their food except the other person who got maple breaky sausage and the person who got rocks(bisquits) and gravy. Whomp whomp. Servers was nice. Nice diner atmosphere. Parking is limited.

It's a staple in my town. It's been a long time since I've been there. I'm used to and like more handcrafted type food. Went for dinner. Salad was from a bag. Nothing special added like a tomato or anything to make it look halfway nice. Was like institutional type dinner. I would go for breakfast and maybe a burger type meal. But not dinner. Nothing to write home about unfortunately. Hostess didn't even smile or talk. That was the first impression. Expensive for what you are getting. Better values elsewhere for my taste.

First time here for Breakfast/Lunch and we ordered the Shaker Delight Cheeseburger and fries ($13.25) and California Omelette without ham (16.50 + .50 upcharge for eggs) and we ordered desserts, Boysenberry Pie ($7.50), Shakers “Famous”Carrot Cake ($6.95) and a Hot Fudge Sundae ($6.95). The burger was just ok…I would choose something else next time. The fries weren’t cold but they weren’t fresh out of the fryer and they were pretty salty. The Omelette was on the bland side…it could use some spice. The Boysenberry pie was wonderful and worth coming here for. Carrot Cake is usually my all time favorite but this one seemed to be more of a bread consistency and not my favorite. The flavors were good, but the consistency just wasn’t my favorite. The Hot Fudge Sundae was tasty as it should be. Today, we seated ourself outside on the covered patio. Service was very casual.

I've been going to shakers since the late 70's, I just happened to go yesterday with my wife on her birthday. Everything was fine until I asked for a refill on my soda,which was root beer(the menu says free refills on soft drinks),but apparently not if you choose a different flavor. I wanted a sprite instead. It totally ruined the rest of our day. Really?!? From a fountain drink?!? I won't be going back for awhile.

They just can't get our orders right. This has happened 5 or so times in the last 6 months. They never apologize either. It's really frustrating.

It was my first time coming here. The service was great but the food was not. I got the side stack of pancakes and they were so pale! They tasted like the pancake mix you can get from the store, nothing special. Twoheys pancakes tasted better than these. I also got pigs in a blanket but they were just a regular sausage with a pancake wrapped around it. I arrived 12:15 was seated quickly . Ordered the pot roast sandwich no onions on it cuz I'm allergic . But was delivered with onions . I sent it back and soon it was delivered back to me with onion still on it . Took 30 minutes to get it the first time . Finally was delivered correctly about 1pm . Lil dry but wasn't bad tasting . I wont be returning

I ordered a soup and salad and about 15 minutes later I started feeling a bad stomachache, I went to the bathroom and not only did I have diarrhea but also started throwing up and sweating profusely and felt like I was going to pass out! After a few minutes I went back to the table and we flagged down the manager to tell him what happened. He offered to give us a discount and we just told him we were not interested in any compensation but that he should check to make sure that nothing was wrong with their food! I feel it was food poisoning and…. Needless to say this is our last time there! I got home and drank some te and thank God I am okay now.

Wanted to try out a new breakfast spot and came across this place. When I got here I spoke to the girl at the front register and she wrote my name down on the sign in sheet. Was waiting for ten minutes, and the people who came after me were called up first. Then another ten-fifteen minutes passed and they called another group that had showed and signed their name after me. I went up to the lady at the front and asked why was I skipped twice, she looks right at me and asks if my name was on the list ((she was the one who wrote my name down on that list when I first came in)). Mind you during the time I came in and up to the time I made contact with her again it was calm the morning rush cooled down, I would of understood if she was running all over the place busy etc. but that wasn't the case. Anyway, I decided to walk right on out. If a restaurant can't manage to properly seat patrons in a timely manner and can't respect a persons time, I have very little faith they are capable of providing anything else than mediocre food. To that end I will definitely never be returning to this establishment, their are plenty of other breakfast options fortunately with way better customer service.
