Stopped in on a Saturday recently and ordered a bunch of tacos to watch some games. This is the second time I’ve been and I’ve been pleasantly surprised each time. Most recently I ordered 20 of their al pastor tacos to go. It was ready really quickly and everyone seemed to love them. They were friendly and quick and the quality was very good. They also threw in a bunch of salsa and chips which was a hit. Definitely try the al pastor tacos! (Picture was from a video but if you order a lot they pack them up nicely for a tailgate/catering)

The best Mexican food I have ever eaten in the USA! Amazing! Unique flavors!

Love the Amigos Pastor with charro beans. (Stuffed pablano peppers) Good margaritas, too. 😀

Fantastic little local community place. Wonderful service, great dining area and the food was fantastic! Couldn’t recommend La Cabana more highly for burgers and enchiladas!

By FAR the best salsa in town!! The salsa and chips for me are make the start of my dining experience special when eating Mexican food. The tacos, enchiladas and fajitas are all awesome too! The service is always awesome too! #keithmilkiewicz

Best Mexican west of Austin, hands down. Like margaritas, try the top shelf Mexican martinis. Get a designated driver!

Had the fried avocado, refried beans and rice it was fantastic. My husband had El pastor mango tacos and charros bean another great plate. All at a lower then average prices.

Y’all - this place takes customer service to a whole new level. My husband used to come here when he lived out in Spicewood years ago. The manager came out to chat because he remembered him from all those years ago and even told him how happy he looked! Food was great, service was efficient, and location was CLEAN with plenty of sanitizer and space!

Been coming here fairly regularly since we moved out here. A few times a year at least. Staff, service and food are always excellent and reasonably priced. The garlic fish is superb. Will continue to come back.

Quiet place with a very pleasant atmosphere. They did not have the drink I requested however made it for me anyway. The Food is wonderful. Take time to come by and visit these fine people, you won’t be sorry

We’ve been searching for a good Mexican spot near us since we moved here and we finally found it! Great food and attentive service. We’ll be back for sure!

We all had fajitas and shared a queso. The queso and salsa were very good, 10/10. Barracho beans are probably the best I've ever had. The meat was well seasoned and tender. We would def be back if we lived closer.

M
Moe Kamalipour

The tacos are fresh and tender , spiced just right , Simply the best tacos I have had . We are new to the area and glad to have such a place to go to. Prices are very reasonable. Service is great too.

I have been eating here for 20 years. After the fire, the entire vibe and business changed for the better. You just can't get more authentic Mexican food than this. I love the plateau this business is on in Spicewood as you can see the entire valley. You can't go wrong here.

D

Super nice staff and every single thing we've eaten there is delicious and authentic! Even the leftover rice and yummy charro beans make a great meal the next day.

Great food and service! I’ve been coming here for years. Consistent and fairly priced Mexican food. The food is often served quickly, but when busy it will be well worth the wait!

By far one of the very best restaurants in the Lake Travis area and definitely the best Mexican food for miles around. Great food, great service, and very reasonably priced. My husband and I go at least once a week. Muy delicioso!

If you need an inexpensive, down to earth, Mexican joint with great drinks...this is your place. Nothing special, just solid well priced food and drinks.

D

This is a family owned Mexican Restaurant in Spicewood where, as you would expect from a family, the service is both attentive and congenial. The surprise is how consistently great the food is across a very broad menu. I've had the Bisquet, Brisket, and Ground Beef Tacos, all of which are good to great. My wife loves the Chicken Burrito with the Jalapeno Cream Sauce. Finally, my son is a big fan of their Chicken Fajitas. Oh, and their Margaritas are some of the best in town - and reasonable priced as well!

C
Chris Wiltens

Discovered this place by accident, but definitely coming back. The food, service, cleanliness and ambiance are amazing. The meats were chargrilled to perfection, salad was amazing, service very friendly, just downright inviting you to come back over and over. Generous portions, exceptional value, and quality of ingredients, make for an experience to remember.

D
Danielle McIntosh

Best authentic Mexican around. We drive 35 minutes to eat there several times a month. Salsa always fresh and spicy. Fast and courteous staff. Best rice and beans ever. Charro beans the best. Go eat there!

C
Colleen Harrison

The best crispy tacos pastor and sour cream enchiladas I have EVER had! Margaritas were spot on as well. A few flies and a bee trying to get outside caused minimal disturbance; bathroom was very clean. Next time we'll sit outside, since today was absolutely beautiful. Even though we're from the Houston area, we can't wait to try out some other dishes here!

M
Michael Sabatini

Extremely friendly and hospitable! GREAT Mexican cuisine and they provide food and beverage free of charge to the less privileged such as “Nick” who has managed to survive in the community for years. Nick is not able to work and has been a fixture in the hill country for years. May God Bless him and all those at La Cabana for their Godly ways.

Omg! I'll be back. Just a random little hole in the wall but the food was amazing. I got the fried avocado plate... just Fantastic! Everyone in my group enjoyed the food. The backyard has cute walking paths as well.

This is an absolutely fantastic Mexican restaurant. I was very impressed with the service e and food.

C

Quick and efficient service and excellent food! The salsa had just the right kick and nicely crisp chips went with it. I had the fish taco plate. It was simply delicious! I especially enjoyed the sauce to put on them.

After watching 2 long rounds of golf...we were hungry for some Mexican food. This place did not disappoint! Salsa very fresh -little spicy bit not too much. Very friendly servers and quick with the chips and drink refills.. I had veggie fajitas probably some of the best I've eaten! My husband had chicken chimichanga and he said it was a 3 out of 5 bc it wasn't crispy enough. Besides that...wonderful little place.

I've gone to La cabana grill several times over the last several years!!!! The food is ALWAYS DELICIOUS!!! High quality every time!!! Some of the BEST margaritas.. the ONLY thing Ive never liked is when it's time to pay, there are signs that say "pay at register", however, there's not a designated cashier, they don't give you your bill, you just have to get up and go to register.. I definitely recommend this place!!!

S
Shannon Boullion

Service was top notch, food was great, and their outside dining area is very beautiful and provides ample space for social distancing... It's the perfect compromise for eating out but still staying safe. The staff all had masks and gloves and from what we could tell they are practicing all of the recommended actions for staying safe while still being open. Their outside dining has a beautiful butterfly garden, gorgeous plants everywhere and the biggest fig tree I've ever seen in Texas! There is also a large fenced field back behind the pond for the dogs and/or kids to run around! Overall great experience 👍🙌👌

Robin Elizabeth Mayfield

We just got take out last night and it was so delicious! I had the poblano peppers stuffed with Fajita meat and cheese. It was beyond yummy. The rice and beans were very good and the salza and chips were outstanding! Our first time to eat out in 2 months and it was so worth it 😁😁😁

La Cabaña is a beautiful gem of a restaurant within Spicewood and is something which I hold closely to my heart. It's a small business with only one location and I would highly advise for you to enjoy it, love it and keep going there. Although it's been many years, I remember back in 2007 or 2008ish it was a family owned business from a teacher at Bee Cave elementary. I believe it was family owned before that sale, and at my most recent visit I assumed the business to still be family owned, if or not by another doesn't matter to me. What does matter is keeping this restaurant alive. I love this restaurant and hold it dearly to my heart. Back when my family and I lived in Spicewood from 2005 to 2010 we were frequently going to this restaurant. I honestly don't remember how many hundreds of times I've been there as a child. I do remember everything about the restaurant being grand and marvelous. I remembered everything that could be critiqued or complained about always being perfect, and if not then it was due to a perfectly normal and human understanding and reasoning. Around August I personally visited the restaurant again. It had been 13 years since I had last been there. I had finished my education from the Houston region and I wanted to visit my childhood area again. I wanted to visit Spicewood, Lake Travis, Briarcliff, just anything and everything I remember as a child in the general area. I was beyond happy to still see this restaurant alive and kicking. I left early in the morning to make it to Spicewood, although my hotel check in time wasn't until 3pm and I was in the area hours early was all the better for me. I started driving around and visiting as many childhood places as I could remember. I would get out, explore a little and take photos for myself. All the while the extreme Texas heat wave is going on and thankfully my little car is able to scoot along reliably and I had plenty of water, gas in my tank, and time. I kept exploring until I felt ready to eat a horse. Thankfully it was past 3pm and I checked into my hotel and unpacked and immediately rushed for La Cabaña. I don't remember the exact time, but it was well after lunch rush but still before anyone remotely related with the dinner crowd would walk in. Yet I was ready to walk in. I parked in the parking lot, still as big and glorious as I remember. There's no formal lines, just parking with respect for one and another. It was beyond hot, 100+ degrees. I walked in and felt a nice chill of air conditioning. The entrance door was just as I remembered. The weight of that door is light but closes with meaning. As soon as you walk in a mirror was greeting me, just as I remembered. The restaurant is self seating and the layout was unchanged. What did change was something near the restroom entrance. There's a magazine congratulating the restaurant for their years of operation and continued success. The menu is much simpler and more streamlined compared to the menu of my memories. The food was incredible. The presentation was beautiful and the overall flavor was nothing other than delicious. I highly advise that you get Charro beans, no other side dish is even worthy of discussion if charro beans are available. Once you're done and ready to pay you just walk up to a table. You can tell which table it is as soon as you walk in and if not then use some logic to figure it out. After paying I asked for permission to walk around outside and if that type of thing is still allowed, thankfully it was and is. Outdoors I went. Everything is still there. The long horn, the angels and Mother Mary as well as my Frog prince. If you want a small relic of a much simpler time and very relaxed atmosphere, you go to La Cabaña. If you want the best, you go to La Cabaña.

Great place to eat, Friendly staff clean area. We arrived an hour before closing time however the staff was very accommodating. As we were checking out the cashier was fun had a great sense of humor and we left feeling like we had been fed well and was entertained I would recommend this to anyone who is in the area.

Cannot begin to describe this place, the service is amazing, the atmosphere is so cozy, everyone was really nice. Our food came quickly and was so yummy. Next time I’m out this way I will definitely be stopping by. Their frozen mango margarita is to die for, wish I discovered this place earlier ❤️

Been coming here for years now because their beef fajita burrito is the best I've ever had and so consistent! I don't know how they do it but the meat is more like tender cubed pieces of steak please never change the recipe 🙏

A great hidden gem for Tex-Mex lovers, La Cabana Grill in Spicewood, Texas, is a solid choice. The food is consistently good, offering all the Tex-Mex classics you crave. The service is fast and predictable every time. I never have to wait which is great if you’ve got kiddos. When I want to order; they are already at the table waiting to take it! The food comes out hot, fresh, and scrumptious. The staff are friendly. I highly recommend La Cabana Mexican Grill!

Lots of menu items and a really great kids menu too We had queso, the chimichanga (with your choice of meat) that’s covered in QUESO! Best michelada! Fast, friendly, and attentive service even though only 2 small parties outside (need mosquito repellent). Great menu options. Food was good and made to order, salsa is great! Nachos were more than enough for 2. Mexican Martini also a hit. Will be back.

Enjoyed the lunch specials they offered along with their Mexican martini. The place is a little plain and simple inside which is OK for us. Taste and value were pretty good.

Foods fine. I wish it were more spicy but this place probably targets families over extreme heat. Recommend stuffed peppers as keto friendly and the margaritas are really good.

Strong and not overly sweet nachos and excellent enchiladas. Not quite 5 stars but almost there. Skip the gross naked cheesy relleno it’s a sloppy inedible mess on your plate that your dog will turn up his nose to. Beef tacos are great

The enchiladas was good. The service was fast. 4 stars because no one greeted us and we were standing at the door looking confused with 3 other groups of customers.

Always good service and tasty Mexican classics. My husband loves the chili rellenos, and I always get the fajitas. Not traditional, but I always get a glass of wine, and la cabana had a generous pour. Tip - if you get queso, get the chili con queso. It's much more flavorful than plain, warm cheese dip.

D
Dave “Gunslinger”

Love the food and eat here quite often. Really nice owner and usually the staff is very nice. This time our server was not on it and she was not friendly. Everybody has an off day. The restaurant gets 4.5 stars for food quality and quantity. I did however have to get up twice to get drink refills and we had to flag down the server to get a check. Sorry, La Cabana. We love local places but in this day it was not on point. We do recommend the place and will be back.

D
Daniel García Alvarado

As a Mexican recently moving from Mexico, food is just AMAZING. Frijoles good, rice good, salsa good. One of the waiters, the one everyone complains, yes is rude and the only bad thing about the place. But if you can wait and wait and wait: food is worth it. IF YOUR PARTY FITS IN A 4 CHAIR TABLE, DONT SIT IN A LARGE TABLE OTHERWISE HE WILL BE MAD 😂

L
Louis Wheeler

Good food for price ... but 3-4 stars 🌟 Staff didn't check back re. Drink later, needed napkins, and wasn't clear that they didn't bring the check? I had to ask the clean up lady...

S

After reading the posted reviews i felt like I needed to post one as well. I have always been satisfied with the friendly service, fair prices and the food is above average and certainly as good as the average Mexican restaurant. The margaritas are actually excellent, way better than most places. The outside seating is a very nice bonus as well. Enjoy.

S
Seedy Rom

Not a bad restaurant by any means, but just kinda average. I didn't want to give a 3 because the service was good. It's just that the food was a little bland. My shrimp enchiladas lacked any flavor, and my wife's fish tacos were overcooked. I'd go again, just not that impressed unfortunately.

Justin

Fantastic value. Portion sizes are very generous for the price. Beware you will definitely be so full that you need a nap! 😪 When we went there Tuesday afternoon service was a bit slow but nothing to complain about since it was a weird time.

Stopped in for an early lunch. Had a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup. For any restaurant that I review, every aspect of my meal has to be perfect to get 5 stars. That includes food, drinks, service, cleanliness, and checkout. That's very rare and La Cabana Grill came close with 4-Stars. Bravo!! This is a traditional Mexican dish that's difficult to get right. But La Cabana Grill has the secret to a bowl of pure chicken delight. A generous helping of white meat chicken swims in a excellent blend of clear perfectly salted chicken broth, the way chicken broth is supposed to taste, including with rice, thinly sliced crunchy tortilla strips, tiny pieces of tomato, carrots, a few peas, onion, cilantro, white cheese, and a large scoop of guacamole nestled in the center. This soup is hearty and bursting with flavor. It blew my mind. Their salsa is superbly spicy, but not too hot. Very flavorful, only slightly tangy, with chunks of onion. Okay, so the reason for 4-Stars: the chips for the salsa were a bit stale and the flour tortillas I ordered with my soup tasted doughy, not cooked long enough to my liking. Other than that, everything was excellent, including the very freshly brewed sweet tea. I was even offered one to-go. Well done!! I'll be back!

David Tuggle (Tug)
David Tuggle (Tug)

What a great find. The chips and hot sauce were great. The service was probably the best we have ever had in the greater Austin area. We were there for lunch celebrating the first day of our vacation. We had lunch options, so things came out really fast. We didn't detect marinade on our chicken enchiladas, like other places have. You can get a tamale on the side and it isn't on the menu. The margs were ok. Will come again. Oh no outdoor seating despite what the website says.

J
James Shugart

Edible. We visited at an odd hour so I'm sure things were reheated. It would have probably been great fresh. Still, I'm willing to try them again. Seasoning was good. Staff was friendly.

M
Mark W

either the place was demolished or the location is wrong. no restaurant there when we arrived

B
Bryan McLane

I used to really enjoy this place until I came by one evening at 8:29 (they close at 9:00) with my oldest daughter who was holding my 1-year old daughter. The main guy told us when we walked in “No, kitchen is closed” and then pointed to the door. What small business does that to a family holding a 1-year old in a small town?? Never going back!

B
Brenda Avalos

The waiter was so rude I have to ask him to chill out and was not necessary talk in condescending way that make him stop talking to us like that. I don’t know if he didn’t realized how rude he sounded. A lady waiter too she was the opposite very nice and chatty. The food was not that good.

C
Chad Crow

The food here is good, but the service is hit or miss. I wanted to place a second order after picking up my first to go order, and they asked me why I didn’t order it all together. I realize there are credit card processing fees, but it’s unnecessary to pass those frustrations to your customer. Instead of making a second sale and additional tip, they lost out due to the man’s poor attitude.

D
Danny Williams

Dang it. I Really wanted to like this place . We dropped in early Saturday around 4 30, no greeting, so we sat at the bar. We waited patiently to be acknowledged. We ordered a drink and fajitas. We had to ask for chips.. We were never offered water nor were we asked if we would enjoy another drink. I felt more like we were in the staffs work place than the bar/dinner area. The bar staff & wait staff were enjoying their food at the bar, another sitting at the bar and rolling up utensils. I understand its a new location and in time they'll figure out the workspace vs serving area space, door greetings, improvement with timely efficient bar staff. As for the food... we orderd half n half fajitas, beef & chicken. I prefer fajitas to be served sizzling hot, fresh, beef pink center and moist chicken. Not the case here... Fajitas served on a plate with a glazed over heat lamp appearance and fairly warm and thoughly cooked through. The flavor- seasoning however is actually pretty good. The charo beans were good, favorable. Portions are a plus. I do recommend leaving with quarter pound praline! Its beyond good. I plan to give them another chance in hopes they improve.

Adeniyi Joel

I got there a little before 8pm. I was only given one napkin wrapped around the utensil, of which the server was no where to the found. Food looks weak and taste like it just came out of the microwave.

M
Melissa Knust

The food was good but the service sucked!!! And, that's unfortunate bc the food was good and I probably would've come back, but from start to finish, our server NEVER checked on us to see if we needed ANYTHING! I had to either wave another server down or go get it myself and that is unacceptable!

J
John Erickson

Decided to eat at La Cabana tonight and ordered shrimp quesadilla for the first time… Very disappointed ,was extremely rich with cheese and hardly any shrimp ! The girl serving chips was on point , it almost felt like we were intruding on them to have dinner - I have been there many times tonight was very different 7/26/22

O
Oran Owens

The food was good as always but that was probably the rudest wait staff I’ve ever experienced. I understand being tired but be professional.

e
eliza Rodriguez

Stopped by sometime back and food was great . Started dropping in again that I work around that area and have not been able to get that same warm food again. Last time I dropped in chips were stealth, my food was again poorly warm and my partners flautas were over cooked. They had been doing better in the past. Will have to give that place up.

R
Rada hero

Great service but you can taste the preservatives in the food.

J
Jeremiah Vasquez

I used to love this place. The food is great and the owner or manager is super friendly and polite but the other two on the wait staff are so rude it ruins the entire dining experience.

M
Matt Besche

I can't accurately describe the food here as we sat at our table for 10 minutes with no menus until my wife had to walk behind the counter and get them herself, followed by another 10 minutes where no one came to take a drink order or ask what we wanted to eat. After 20 minutes we left. I have attached a photo of the wonderful meal we had here.

K
Karen Moore

Beef fajita & chicken nachos had no flavor. I got shrimp enchiladas which were disgusting. The best way to describe the taste is: it tastes how walking beside the fish section smells in a market. I told my waiter I didn’t like the taste of them and he said nothing just looked at me and walked away. Very disappointed and will not be back.

J
Janet Smith Voor

Food( combination fajita) was room temperature and just so so. However, our waiter, while trying to carry an overloaded tray of used dishes, drop them right beside me. I was showered with salsa while he ran off to the kitchen laughing. Two other girl waiters came to assist but started cleaning up the mess on the floor before offering me assistance. The experience and service was shocking and rude. We will not return.

S
Scott Austin

Been here 3 times and the food was really bad. Not authentic and no flavor. Last time I sat at the bar for 20 minutes and no one even talked to me so I walked out. They are busy because there aren't many options in the area anymore. I wish it was good.

R
Ronald Lanier

If I could share less than a star I would. Beautiful interior but just horrible food. Horchata is a powder mixed with water and not traditional at. Salsa is from a can. Queso is a bowl of half melted cheese. Served with a spoon and a ladle of grease on top. I do hope the food improves.

S
Sierra Kerr

The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. I haven't had this bad of Mexican food since I tried a Mexican restraint in Canada. That says a lot considering how close we are to Mexico! Waiter told us to sush when he was walking up with our food so that we could hear him ask who ordered what. They also forgot 2 orders and we had to wait for those to be cooked.

J

I frequented this place for several years and even promoted having community organization meetings there. Friends and I would go there for happy hour because we liked the margaritas and food, but the service was never very good. Friends would comment on how bad the service was and I'd say maybe they are just really busy right now. Many times you'd hear tables around you also commenting on the bad service. I don't know why I always stuck up for the place. However, a few weeks back they charged me for food we didn't have and then when I argued this was food we didn't order and were never served, they basically called me a liar. A friend said there were several times they charged her regular price for margaritas that should have been on happy hour. They have more than likely done this to me too. I've learned my lesson now and won't go back!!! A word of caution if you decide to eat there, you will likely get bad service (i.e., the waiter won't come to your table for long periods of time or continually forget to bring you things you've asked for) and remember to review your check carefully. You may be charged for food or drinks you didn't have, and be prepared to argue the point with the manager, who will then call you a liar!

Used to be good margaritas. For the last 5 times, the entire table has ordered an extra shot of toquilla. They’re just simple lime drinks. We joke about it but collectively we’re done.

Maybe the food is good! I don’t know because we wanted to seat outdoors under the trees, and the waiter told us that it was too far for him to serve us. So he pointed at the outdoor tables next to the front door and next to the cars. They have a large outdoor area and he said don’t seat there. He gave us a table facing the cars, literally 3’ from the cars. He was rude and lazy. We decided to leave and never go back.

I have been coming here for years. I am in here at least once a week. I spend a lot of money in this restaurant. I walked in by myself and got told I couldn't sit outside I had to sit at the bar because the table outside is too big. I sp3nd more than 100 every time. The wait staff has gotten ruder and the food has gotten worse. Take the time to drive to any other Mexican restaurant.

I found the Mexican food to be overly greasy. On multiple occasions we were served frozen salsa and on tto go order frozen salsa! The fish and shrimp are it’s was like rubber tacos with grilled onions I would not recommend this place. I was so glad when I drove by and saw building was demolished When you call it to go order, they are very annoyed. When you pick up an order they always seem frazzled

Rustic decor was nice. The service was lackluster at best. Waitress was annoyed that three of us sat at a larger table, evwn though the place was only 1/3 full. Food was very mediocre tasting, and two of us got the mud butt after eating here. There is much better places to eat if you drive an extra 10 minutes in either direction. Especially for the price.
