I popped in for lunch at 2:30pm and was warmly greeted by staff. I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce lunch special with fried rice and hot and sour soup. It was delicious. Generous amounts of jumbo shrimp. This place has been here for decades and the quality is tops.
We recently ordered from China Chalet for catering for a family event. The fried rice and lo mein were very affordable, the walnut shrimp was crispy and sweet, and the ribs were so tender and flavorful. Everyone loved the food and kept going back for more. The presentation was great and the restaurant was accommodating. 5/5 highly recommend ordering if you need party trays for your event, especially if you need to feed a big group!
Food was very good service excellent Thank you Jerry our waiter

Great eat-in Chinese restaurant. Everything was delicious!
Went on a weekday and the food was AMAZING. We had chicken lo mein, beef and scallions, beef and string beans among a lot of appetizers and everything came out piping hot and tasted amazing. You can tell it was freshly prepared. The service was also amazing. The staff was very attentive. They have a bar which we sat at before dinner.
Truly a great dine in place- not to mention convenient and timely order out when reopening GO! My friends and I enjoyed dining in and ordering out here. The food and specialty dishes are exceptional. When the restaurant reopens this is one of Staten Islands go to place’s especially for there pickup or order out business. The China Chalet is well known and the consensus speaks to a need for a reopening/renovation and renewal of this exceptional service/restaurant. Open for business and the whole Richmond County is grateful- extraordinary and large selection of take out and great service. Make a stop at the bar while waiting, see barkeep Kenny you will not be disappointed; he is always a pleasure to see and he will not only make your day, he will make you the best concoction of any tropical 🌴 cocktail.
The food is very good service is excellent as well. This China Chalet restaurant reminds me of the one that used to be open in lower Manhattan NYC. Would definitely recommend.
This place has been a fixture for years and years. A stones throw away from my house I only just started taking advantage and having lunches here. Today I had the most delicious pepper steak with onion that I can ever remember having. It was fresh the steak was paperthin and had no fat on it whatsoever. So so good. The chicken dishes are delicious as well and the prices are great. I love it here and will continue to go.
Always good food and great service a staple for Chinese in the area

Food was good. Any photos of the menu and looking at the menu on the website will show the wrong prices. Everything went up which is understandable and you will get an updated menu in your bag when you receive your take out.
We want to have dinner last night, we have been to China chalet before, the food is good and the service has been ok. Last night however we had the rudest server we have ever experienced. He took our order, didn’t even give us a chance to order drinks or appetizers. My friend had asked if she could have plain fried rice with her order and he snapped at her saying NO!!! Like she was asking to have gold sprinkled onto her rice. When our food arrived he literally threw the plates onto the table. Still didn’t ask if we wanted anything to drink. We asked for soy sauce and some extra duck sauce. He walked away and came back with the soy sauce, slamming it on the take, then we made the mistake of reminding him about the duck sauce, he again snapped at us and said “ I told you wait “. Then came back a few minutes later with the sauce. None of us have ever experienced this kind of treatment from a server ever, it was almost as if he resented having to serve 3 women. A couple came in and were seated a booth over from us and his attitude was so different with them. It was a Jekyll and Hyde experience. I think from now on we’ll stick to take out from this place. Sad because there aren’t many nice Chinese (dine in) restaurants left in NY.

Shrimp and broccoli(S&B): I’ll give this a 3.95, it’s not the worst S&B but it’s also not the best. The white rice was hard. Some of the broccoli had this chemical taste and lastly the shrimp taste really good but then it had this weird texture. It’s edible though.

Food is decent but service is terrible. There was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. I didn't see any body else helping.
I reserved this restaurant after the burial of my brother in law about three weeks ago. We had approximately 25 people in our party and spent $600 with nice tip. The waiter was extremely rude and condescending. I grew up in Chinatown in Manhattan and I have never had a waiter so rude. My brother asked for a small cup white rice and the waiter said; No white rice! I will never come back to this restaurant.
Ordered the pork and string beans. I guess they have to make the string beans fresh, because they were good. It was the slices of pork that were pre-cooked and dried out.
First off, the food was good. Not amazing but good, I would consider ordering takeout from here if Empire Szechuan was not down the block. The service however was inexcusably bad. I read other reviews and they are correct, at least one of their waiters are incredibly rude. I went on a Thursday night and there were several other tables. He was working alone, and pretty busy, but I observed him great each table with the same level of disrespect. His attitude is very unpleasant and when you ask any questions he is very dismissive. My 8 year old daughter asked him what kind of drinks they have, he waved in the direction of the bar and said he would come back. If I was not in a hurry, and with my daughter who wanted Chinese, I would have walked out. Then the order came a few minutes later and was wrong. The food was good and I still left a 20% tip because I know these are tough times but... The service is ruining that place. I would never go again. If you want a great sit down Chinese experience on Staten Island, check out Jade Island near the mall. They have been there for 40 years and the service and staff are excellent every time.

I Ordered to pick up. Food was cold. I drove 10 minutes away to my home.Normally my food stays warm when I order same distance The Gran marnier was too sweet and broccoli was cold. Bbq spare ribs were overcooked and chewy and also cold. Won tons strips were Stale and crumbled. Two entrees were ordered only and only one small pint of white rice was included. Not enough rice.

Where to begin. My family and I arrive to the restaurant, and although the restaurant looked shoddy, run down, and pretty empty, I said ok, let’s try the place because I heard the food was good. I had a 18 month old baby, and I requested a high chair and the horribly rude waiter said “no baby.” And walked away muttering something in Chinese. I was appalled considering there are FAMILIES that come to this restaurant. So on my way out to the car to find my stroller, I come across a mountain of stacked high chairs next to the exit. I took one myself and I waved to him showing him that he did in fact have one. He rolled His eyes, and was still muttering in Chinese. We sat down finally, and he came and threw the menus in front of us and said “you order now.” We all looked at each other, and said we needed more time. He HUFFED and left to get the cutlery and chips with duck sauce and THREW it on the table. The sauce spattered all over the tablecloth. I was literally in shock! We were so hungry and my baby was already settled that we figured we might as well finish the meal. The guy comes and slams the dishes on the table, and would hover over us so as to make us uncomfortable enough to leave. Funny enough, other patrons came in and were eating at other tables and the treatment was completely different. My guess is he was RACIST, since we were speaking in Spanish amongst ourselves. I have NEVER been treated so disrespectfully in a restaurant. I’m shocked they still operate, shocked that person works in the service industry, shocked treating paying customers that way is normal. Dear OWNER, I will not reconsider coming to the China Chalet. I will however make sure some authorities come and pay your establishment a visit. There is no way that legal treatment of anybody goes on in there, not to mention the questionable hygiene of said waiter (picking his nose, coughing a hacking cough with no mask or covering his mouth.) DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO WALK OUT UPSET, HUNGRY, AND WITH LESS MONEY IN YOUR POCKET. I couldn’t give less of a review, but if I would it would be -5 stars. Absolute trash- unreal.
This place was fine under the original owner but after it changed ownership not so much. The first thing that was noticed was that for a late Saturday afternoon it was empty. All the tables were empty. It also had a run down worn look too as well. So we are seated and when my son ordered and made a special request the waiter became very rude and was muttering in Chinese everytime he came over to our table, it was clear he was cursing us. He had something against my son for whatever reason and we couldn't figure it out. And when we were eating this waiter would be standing there STARING at us mumbling. My son had to leave because he was very upset by this server and he didn't eat because he was afraid they may have done something to the food. I ate my dinner and paid the bill WITHOUT a gratuity and this guy started screaming in Chinese. I'm not making this up. It was a horrible experience and of course trying to find the manager to complain to was in vain. Needless to say we'll NEVER go there again and I believe I will make some phone calls about that bar they have. Some shady things going on there...
Recently I attended a party at the restaurant and while the food was decent, the waiter service left a lot to be desired. The wait staff physically poked guests to move out of the way so they could place the dishes on the table and at one point a waiter began to curse when he tried to place the dishes down. I realize this is not 5 star dining, but the behavior of the wait staff was unacceptable.
***** rude and disrespectful ****** The order was completely wrong. They made us wait over an hour for the wrong order . The sauce broke inside the tub. The person on the phone told me “you do What you want I don’t care” and hung up on us. We also ordered from there for years. It’s a shame. We generally enjoyed their food .

Ate here this evening. The waiter was irritated that we were just here for a light dinner, because we had had a late lunch. We ordered a Pu Pu platter for 2 and a sweet and sour chicken combination dinner. The waiter complained that the combination platter was for 1 person. We explained that we weren't that hungry. We shared the Pu Pu platter and my Husband and son shared the combination dinner. We had food leftover. We asked for a 2nd bowl of noodles and we're told, "NO". First bowl is free the 2nd we charge for. We said ok " how much is it?" He said, $5.00, We said, no thank you. I've never heard of such a thing. He was rude and seemed annoyed to be our waiter from beginning to end. We dine out 6 days a week, have never had a waiter behave so poorly. We will not return! Revised: Is it your policy to charge $5.00 for a 2nd bowl of noodles? I have never been charged for a refill on a bowl of noodles while dining in a Chinese restaurant. You have noticed all the reviews of a rude waiter and responded to the customers making the complaint. He is ruining your business!
