We’re working away and it was my boyfriend’s birthday, so we weren’t sure what time we’d finish, this restaurant was recommended to us. We booked a table for 8:45pm, knowing the kitchen closed at 9pm (double checked via phonecall to ensure it was ok), and the team at Sasso were so welcoming. The food was honestly above our expectations, beautifully cooked and full of flavour, and the atmosphere was relaxed and lovely, which made the evening feel really special after a long day. We never felt rushed and were so glad we chose to eat here. A brilliant experience all round. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area again (hopefully for the live music night!) Massive shoutout to the amazing staff who went the extra mile and brought our desserts out with a candle, singing happy birthday to my partner, such a thoughtful touch that made the night really special. Turned a last minute, late booking into an unforgettable birthday evening. Couldn’t recommend Sasso enough, we’ll 100% be back!
Delicious food and a beautiful place! The best beef carpaccio I’ve ever had
Amazing!! Couldn’t fault my first experience here. Special credit to our waiter Erion who was incredibly polite, friendly and helpful! We came for iftaar (a meal to break our fast) and our starters came out a little early, he was courteous enough to take it back to the kitchen to ensure our food was hot for when we were ready to break our fast! The vibes and services from everyone was immaculate. Will definitely visit again, thank you so much!
The best Italian restaurant in town! Tried a wide variety of dishes and they are all delicious. The service from Erion & Rigi is so attentive and friendly. They always go above and beyond, making every visit truly special.
Be prepared to be surprised after you head up the stairs, the space is nice and airy and great for socializing. Food was fresh and delicious, and service is polite and friendly. Got some great recommendations on local activities!
Sasso is a place of surprise from the moment you walk in. The external entrance certainly does not relay what you are about to experience as you walk through into the reception floor. Surprisingly there is a staircase in the corner to access the restaurant from the reception room. Not too sure if there is an entrance that is accessible for mobile disadvantage people. Once upstairs and you pass through the bar area which is utilised by the waiters only. The first impression in the dining room is that it seems to have been designed by Doctor Who., Simply because it is huge and not in keeping with the impression having come through a smaller door downstairs off the main street, giving you the immediate impression that it would be a good spot to hold larger party functions it also gives you the impression of eating "alfresco" due to the transparent roof lending a courtyard feel almost authentic to an Italian outdoor restaurant. A fantastic dining space superbly laid out making for a beautiful atmospheric environment. Service was second to none very attentive very polite and very efficient. Coming to the main part which is the food it can only be said this lived up to everything you anticipate from the environment. And in a single word, Superb, with ample portion size. I was there with my family as part of my granddaughter's birthday celebrations. It was my first time visiting but it certainly will not be my last, I feel I have found a new favourite Italian restaurant.
Wow, that’s the best Italian restaurant we’re been so far.Great atmosphere, tasty food, professional and friendly staff. We will definitely come back .Recommend it 100%♥️
Hidden Gem, small frontage, deceived all, to a fantastic dining 🍽 experience.
Great food and service would highly recommend
Perfect service with good food and a open feel to the restaurant. the front is a bit hidden but but a lot of space for customers. I would recommend!
Went here for a celebration meal, beautiful interior, lovely staff (especially young man that had just started, he did really well) tasty food and fab atmosphere. Good choice on the menu and we all enjoyed our meals. Would recommend.
Wow! Just wow! 🤩 The food is to die for the ambiance superb the staff incredible! I'm definitely booking for my birthday in January! Joanna in particular the lovely greek lady made our night even more special! Congratulations to the owner of this I credible restaurant! Grazie mil! Fabene! Can't recommend highly enough! Thankyou so much Sasso! 👏👏👏❤
Some of the best Italian food I’ve ever eaten. Lovely place to be and very friendly helpful staff.
Lovely Italian restaurant located upstairs Perfect for group or intimate meals together, food was delicious, specials set price menu also
Exceptionally good food, extensive menu, attentive and well trained staff and overall great vibe! Highly recommended and we eat out a lot!
What a gem of a place! Who would have thought that all these covers were tucked away from such a small shop frontage. Designer inspired interior split over 2 floors. Lovely friendly attentive staff. Food OUT OF THIS WORLD! Tasty, fresh & full flavoured. Well worth a visit. Good value for money 10/10
The service and the food was amazing we came from far away but we would definitely come back !!!
Amazing food, the wine is delicious too. Awesome service, very kind waiters. Will definitely come back when visiting the UK.
Top restaurant. Cannot think of a single thing to criticise. Just go and enjoy The courtyard ambience is perfect
Absolutely delicious! Great menu. Amazing service and very friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit.
Service and dinner were excellent. We shared a focaccia, I had lasagna, Jim had spaghetti Bolognese. We shared affogato for dessert. The servers were pleasant and very professional. An altogether satisfying experience. Price was reasonable for this level of service.
Was so close to gettin a dirty kebab when I saw this place lit up across the road, excellent service and attendance to me by a very polite young man , would definitely stop here for good again
We couldn't wait to go back and try Sasso after their refurbishment. We last went about 8 years, so I was excited to go back, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, they were very busy, but we sat down straight away and served in a good, timely manner. Great service, friendly staff, and food were amazing. I had scallops to start and pulled beef ravioli for my main and both delicious. Didn't need any side dishes. Staff were very busy but did exactly what they were supposed to, and it ran like clockwork. It's a great restaurant, and we will be back. See you soon x 🙂
We have eaten many times . The food ,the staff and value is better by far than any of the best in Manchester by far . If you could.plain here then don't return or comment ,go to Domino's and be quiet . Top quality local business should be promoted not critiqued by cheap skates after a free meal and publicity. Jim and Vicki . We vote with our feet and would recommend to anyone.
Best meal I've had in years. Very filling with nice portion sizes and lovely staff who make sure you have everything you need. Will be returning, lovely atmosphere.
The restaurant is stunning and the staff were incredibly friendly especially on our most recent visit. The food is always wonderful, this is our go-to restaurany in the area for a special occasion.
Absolutely stunning place. Food is all delicious, we've been back many times for the fresh pasta and amazing service. Highly recommend
i visited tonight with my family and the food was incredible!! so was the service !! the only thing i’d say is the food is quite quick coming out, you don’t really get much of a break. but honestly, that doesn’t matter when the food is so amazing. to the chefs & waiters, thank you for an amazing night !! we will be back !
Beautiful venue, very quiet early lunch on a Saturday. Highly recommend the lobster ravioli, I could have licked the plate as didn’t want it to end! Great value for money, would definitely go again.
One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Please never take the beef ravioli off the menu, it's sensational. Lovely and attentive staff and looking forward to going back!
Nice restaurant with lovely ambience. The only draw back is they charge extra for veg and sides on main meals and add a service charge which is not made clear at the outset.
Really enjoyed the masks we've had here. Had a couple of things off the menu now and really enjoyed them. I had the half chicken this visit, which was cooked beautifully. Winter menu prices were also a huge boon!
A beautiful restraunt, we went there as a family of 14 for a gathering and the service was incredible. Would highly recommend for groups, the atmosphere was lovely. The food was of mixed quality, everyone agreed the starters were all delicious, however people who had steaks for main were less impressed, as it had many streaks of fat in it. The carbonara was perfectly done, and so was other mains. The steaks were most likely an issue with the supplier, not the restaurant. For desert I would recommend any of the gelato as that was very nice, but not the cheesecake.. that didn't go down so well. Overall, it was a lovely restaurant (albeit expensive) with mixed quality food, some absolutely wonderful, some not so.
Nice food and beautiful surroundings, drinks were really nice too - cocktails were good. There was a bit of a wait when we arrive despite booking a table. Food prices were high, quality was good but a few things not perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful but it was busy and hard to get their attention at times. Lobster ravioli was OK, not the best I've had but really nice, the pistachio cheesecake was very nice but the ice cream was the best part of the dish.
Quaint restaurant nice atmosphere great friendly attentive staff really nice food with a good choice
The restaurant was very busy (Valentines evening)with a long queue to be seated (45 minute wait) but demonstrates how popular it is. The staff were very friendly although pressured to try and deal with everyone. The food was very good although there were long gaps between courses. This didn't bother us too much as we were in no rush. We enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere which, even though the restaurant was full, was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation.
Booked a table for 4 adults on our first visit after refurbishment. Very impressive decor and prompt service at the table. In terms of the menu the seafood risotto was lacking a little taste and there was no risotto for vegetarians. The big disappointment was the fillet steak which was average and for £34 it was very disappointing and overpriced. Overall a good experience let down by certain aspects in the menu and the steak.
Very well presented restaurant with very reasonably priced food. Service was good. The pizza was decent but the carbonara was slightly stodgy and quite salty. The atmosphere seemed very loud (it was busy)- maybe the sound bounced around the room. Overall a good experience. Would visit again.
Every thing yummy, t bone steak over cook
Bit of a weird one, we've been here before and never had any complaints before only positive experiences. Tonight was very different. Party of 6, table booked for 7.30pm, food ordered at 7.35, starters came out at 7.45- which was abit too fast. But ok. The ribs normally amazing, tasted extremely strong of aniseed and had like a weird aftertaste. So were a little unpleasant. The garlic breads with cheese were a little bit soggy, but the pate was really nice. We then got served our mains at 8.05, less than 5 mins after our starters were clear, and was asked immediately when our food came out 'is everything ok'. We hadn't even started eating yet! 2 pasta dishes, gorgeous! 2 T-bone steaks, amazing. 1 chateau briand, was bland not well seasoned, and cold and not really up to scratch. We were disappointed. We were getting our table cleared by 8.25, and sending back half the chateau briand meat. We then got asked if everything was OK, we explained it wasn't then the manager came to talk to us, and proceeded to say, other people have ordered it and thats how it is. Unfortunately after 24 years in hospitality, ive never heard a restaurant manager say anything like that, I merely said I wasn't asking for a freebie, I didnt say I wasn't paying for it. I was giving him my feedback instead of just writing a review. I think its important they get feedback in person. Not just on here, We left at 8.35pm. It was just weird, and we almost felt like they were trying to get us in and out as fast as possible and we were sat in a very quiet empty area of the restaurant. I've had a better steak at hickorys, and it may be that the supplier hasn't supplied great cuts or something, but never felt so rushed in an well established restaurant before, not saying ill never go back but for the price ive been put off returning for the quality and experience.
Lovely environment and pleasant atmosphere but only given the choice of the limited and overpriced Valentine's menu (day after Valentine's Day). We were not advised when booking several weeks before that only the Valentine's menu would be available. My friend's gluten free options were extremely limited. Overpriced and overrated. Sadly, will not bother again.
I had not visited prior to the renovation, but it certainly looks beautiful now. The decor is truly beautiful and it feels like stepping out of Disley and into a high end hotel. The prices certainly reflect this. The food is quite average especially with regards to how much it costs. The pizza I ordered turned out to be more of a wrap or calzone despite being on the pizza menu. Quite underwhelming in taste. The service I was quite shocked by, I think the waiter was trying to have a laugh and sometimes it was funny but other times it just got too much. Making a comment about women being indecisive when I changed my mind on a bottle of wine I had ordered (he asked are you sure you want it and we had nearly finished so I decided to leave it; it had not been opened yet). Forgetting multiple times when I asked for water and then asking if I’m going to send that back as well. Unprofessional attitude which I would find funny if I wasn’t parting with £40+. He also asked our names and ages which I’m not sure why. He seemed to ignore me and certain individuals, and be dismissive, but then would be extremely attentive to other members of our party, which is unprofessional in my opinion. I don’t tend to leave reviews but I was very taken aback by this. If there is going to be a mandatory service charge then I expect that the service would reflect this accordingly. Unfortunately there were just not enough redeeming features to make this a pleasant experience.
We've been going to this restaurant for many many years, and have obviously enjoyed the food and ambience. It was our first visit since it reopened after the refurbishment, and I must say I was underwhelmed. The staff have changed, and although friendly, we didn't feel as welcome as we had previously- but this is a minor issue compared to the new menu. Sasso used to be very good value for money, and although it had become expensive prior to the refurbishment, I thought that today's prices didn't match up to the quality of the food served. Portions were generous, but the food was very bland - not what you expect from Italian food - and the menu included some new and at first glance, interesting options, it did however miss a number of my favourites from the old menu. There was no calzone pizza, no cannelloni and no chicken pasta dishes at all. We all chose something new from the menu and everyone found it bland, and everyone said that they wouldn't have the same meal again! I must say that the renovation is a huge improvement, and although the ambience wasn't great in the corner we were seated, the old conservatory area looked fabulous, and was certainly buzzing. I will not be coming back, which is a shame after 10+ years, but there are better Italian restaurants in the area which offer better value and certainly more flavoursome food.
Beautiful restaurant and attentive staff who sadly had no concept of how food should be served. Our food was served cold and on a cold plate, plus bacon on a vegetarian meal...... One meal went back three times before they got it right, mine took two attempts to get it right. The staff didn't seem bothered that the food was cold and couldn't understand why you'd serve food on a warm plate. The food, once it was prepared correctly was nice. I was very surprised to see a 10% service charge on the bill after all the problems with the food, I asked for this to be taken off the bill which it was. I explained how disappointing the evening was as it was my friend's birthday. After paying the bill a portion of Tiramisu with a candle was brought out whilst the staff sang happy birthday, which was a nice gesture, just lacked spoons which arrived afterwards.
Great venue & lovely atmosphere. Sadly the service and food were poor. They do not cater for vegans on the menu but agreed to do pasta and veg. When it came, it was just pasta. A couple next to me received their main, but a meal was sent back and needless to say; it never returned! Couple left with one meal down. It’s all front and very disingenuous customer service
Extremely unorganised on valentines day. The restaurant was over booked and staff were not even checking whether people actually had bookings in the first place! This resulted in a 40 minute wait to be sat down. There’s no excuse for this, all they had to do was not make as many reservations! Not rocket science really. To add to this, there was no clearly organised queue, meaning that people were confused and there were just a huddle of people at the top of the stairs. This resulted in people not being sat down in the order they arrived or sat down based on any reservation timings. Like I said, they didn’t even check if we actually had a reservation! Once we finally sat down, we discovered that the menu was also extremely limited! It was a special valentines day menu. This would have been OK if we were informed about this in advance and could maybe look at the menu before making a decision whether to even go there. There was no Pizza at all, there was no typical pasta (only fish or beef ravioli), not what you expect when you go to an Italian restaurant. I would never have gone in the first place if I knew that 90% of the normal menu wasn’t available. Overall, we were really disappointed, this was my first time and last time going to Sasso.
Having dined here since the days it was known as Conti, my wife and I had both looked forward to an evening reservation in Sasso after their recent refurbishment. Sadly it was a disappointment from the beginning! Staff greeted us with remarks that they were very busy and would not be sure when our 19.30 reservation would be available. There was an offer to stand at a packed out small bar, noting that the previously provided guest seating had been removed during the refurbishment. We were very nearly to leave and find another restaurant when the manager seated us. Strangely the manager who seated us played off that his team were 'jokingly' saying they couldn't guarantee a reserved table time! Had a different approach been taken then we would have not been considering leaving and going elsewhere. The refurbishment looks good and the food still lovely, however the place has been packed out with tables to the point there is little space for staff and customers to move about. This change has all led to a chaotic experience and a poor show on ambience, in comparison to the many family meals and celebrations of the past we have enjoyed at this restaurant. Sadly, the service experience was also disorientated with our meals first being served to other diners and the meals of others being served to our table first in error. There didn’t appear to be any single waiter taking responsibility to look after each table either, which is often the best way to create a personal sense of hospitality. When we were served our main meals the waiter didn’t offer to order more drinks or take away our empty glasses. We chose to leave after our mains in favor of desserts, cocktails and wine elsewhere. The manager did see our poor experience and make an apology when we left, with the justification of it being a busy night. I dont think there was much he could have done to avoid the shortcomings of our experience and could also see other diners were seeing similar issues. In my opinion the place has taken on far too many tables for the space available, which could continue to impact the reputation of this very popular restaurant. Hopefully its just teething problems and potentially a new staff team finding their feet. Its rare that my wife and I manage an evening out together and with a long awaited evening ending in disappointment, we will be in two minds about choosing Sasso when the opportunity next arises for a date evening out.
Had a reservation but was met with a queue out of the door front door and right up the entrance stairs into the restaurant. Took over 30 mins to be seated amid the chaos of the staff running around trying to keep up with the overcrowded restaurant. Wish I could have rated the food but we left before service as once finally seated no one bothered to come and take our drink order let our alone food choices! To be honest, the decor looks great and could deliver so much but the greed of overbooking has left the experience lacking in all categories! Won’t return and would encourage others to think twice before booking.
Really disappointing overall, took 15 minutes to be sat to a table (after being taken to a table just to find another couple already sat on it). Service was a massive let-down, after 40 minutes of being sat at the table we had not been asked our drinks order. Our starter arrived after over an hour of being a sat, which was simply put, a burnt garlic bread with sliced tomato on it. Mains were disappointing, even more so after waiting 1.5hrs for them to arrive, same sort of food that would be in a microwave meal. Overall, an obvious overbooking, unprepared staff and a clear money-grab attempt from the management taking advantage of Valentines day. Do not recommend, avoid.
We’ve been to this restaurant many times before, but after our experience on Valentine’s Day, we’re not sure we’ll be returning. The evening was completely disorganised from the start. When we arrived, the queue was nearly out of the door, and despite waiting patiently, no staff member acknowledged us or asked for our booking details. Instead, people were just standing around, confused about what to do. After waiting for a while, we asked a waitress for help, and she assured us she’d be back—but we never saw her again. Meanwhile, random customers were being seated with no clear system in place. Once people started realising there was no structure, they began forming a queue themselves to show who was next, yet even then, staff continued to take people out of order. By the time we were finally seated—40 minutes after our booking time—it only happened because other customers were kind enough to point out that we had arrived before them. The waiter’s excuse was that he “recognised” them, which made no sense. At no point did anyone apologise for the delay or attempt to communicate what was happening. To make matters worse, we were unaware there was a set menu with very limited options. While the food itself was nice, the service was abysmal. They even tried to add a service charge, which we requested to be removed. For such a chaotic experience, you’d expect at least a small goodwill gesture—perhaps a complimentary Prosecco—but there was nothing. People were visibly frustrated, walking out and complaining, and it was clear the restaurant had overbooked and couldn’t manage the demand. We’ve always said great things about this restaurant , but after this disaster of an evening, we’re seriously reconsidering whether we’ll return.
