Had the best time! Jackie, Chris and Kevin did and amazing job hosting a large group of us. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. The vibes were impeccable and the food and drinks are unmatched. Definitely coming back. Thank you guys!!!🫶🏽

The food was delicious, and they served the softest brie as part of the platter, so good. Did feel a little short staffed. I only saw one waiter for the restaurant on a friday night, but he was hustling and everything was timely and clean.

D
Declan Mc Court

Great charcuterie, great selection of wines and cocktails. Don't ruin your evening by ordering 4 pizzas though, they're good but this isn't a pizza place, they're on the menu for the awkward person in the group who can't eat cured meat and cheese without it being on a flat bread.

Adore this place! Our waitress was phenomenal. She felt like a best friend we’ve known for years. The atmosphere was such a good vibe. Thank you Claret Wine Bar

Located in Sunnyside Gardens, on the corner of Skillman Ave and 46th St in Queens Very friendly atmosphere somewhere between homey and sophisticated. Eclectic live music interspersed with Spanish flamenco sometimes played live by two very good musical brothers. The fantastic owners, Neil and Justin and two British sisters, related to the owners and the singers, mingle with patrons often (they know almost everybody) and the staff is happy to interact with us or leave us alone, according to how they read the patrons.(Jackie, the wait person and Kevin, the bartender are also two very efficient and convivial workers) Great place to have serious tapas-dinner (Felix and his aid in the tiny kitchen conjure miracles of good and diverse food), and equally good to enjoy good wine or good beer…or any cocktails. My WIFE and I LOVE this place and we have been coming for several years now, bringing friends and/or relatives) as soon as we set foot in NYC

Favorite spot in Sunnyside! Claret is such a wonderful gem, and my husband and I have been regulars for years. A great variety of excellent drinks, beautiful space with a view of the trees in Sunnyside Gardens, and run by the best people. Jaci and Kevin are so kind and always make us feel like family. Every time we’re there we either see friends from the neighborhood walking by or they’re also going to Claret. Just such a charming spot with a personal neighborhood feel. It’s pretty perfect and always our go-to.

This place is awesome, it has the vibe of a real modern french/spanish café. Great beer and cocktail selection and remarkable food, you notice the love behind the menu at the first bit. The Catalan Pizza is my favorite.

This is a go to of mine - love it! Great food as well as great drinks (wine, beer, and cocktails). Especially love it around the holidays because they do a fantastic job of decorating. Genuinely friendly and kind staff.

Personable bartender, CLEAN!, great selection of wines by the glass without beating you over the head on the price. Insane Bourbon and Scotch selection and a very ambitious menu of small plates. Cozy little neighborhood spot in Sunnyside.

This is specifically for happy hour. Way above average, great bargains are to be had, whether you get the pizza or the charcuterie. Outside of happy hour, the food is still way above average. Not the best bargain but still well worth it.

Neighborhood favorite. Excellent menu and great drinks, though it’s the people (Jackie, Kevin, Neil, Bob, and Jen) who make this place as special as it is. The Champignon Pizza with honey and red pepper flakes is 🤌🏼🤌🏼

Claret is a gem in the neighborhood that should not be taken for granted. Kevin, Jaci, Justin, Neil, and the kitchen staff all are amazing and very friendly which makes you feel at home. Good wine selection and delicious food. I recommend Sizzling Shrimp, Tomato Soup, Charcuterie & Cheese Plate, and Smoked Salmon Tartine, these are the ones that I have tried so far and did not disappoint. They have live music every Friday and offer various genres and music for every taste. I have listened to the majority of the bands and I can assure you that everyone is exceptionally talented and the majority of them are classically trained. They try to support local talents first which is very important to support local. You don't need to go to Manhattan to enjoy great music and jazz, just go to Claret to satisfy your cravings for great music and great food with a nice vibe. You'll thank me later.

C
Chris Baugh

We moved to NYC not knowing anyone. It was almost a year before we finally visited Claret, even though they are in our neighborhood. I can say without hesitation, that the people at Claret made us feel like family the first time we visited. Now we typically go once per week, and we always feel like we're home. These are the nicest people, and whether it's the 90s music playing or the local bands that perform, we always end up having an amazing time. My only regret is that it took us a year to finally come here. Do yourself a favor and go to Claret, you won't regret it.

Updated to add - we just had dinner at the bar. Never tried the desserts so it wasn’t in my last review. Crème brûlée is incredible. Wow! This is such a fantastic place. The owners and staff are so warm and welcoming (and hilarious) and we always find ourselves laughing and feeling relaxed. And the food is amazing! It is also our dogs’ favorite establishment. The outdoor seating is a great spot for them to hang out under our table with a bowl of water, checking out the dogs who pass by or vibing with dogs at neighboring tables. I can’t say enough about how much we love this spot.

This a local favorite, the staff is super friendly, the food was delicious. The wine was complemented the pizza and the cheese-meat appetizer. I will definitely return.

[I also posted this review on Yelp.] Superb! Friendly and professional staff (everyone: kitchen staff, servers, bartenders, owners); yummy, varied food; great spirits selection; best wine list in the neighborhood; rota of musicians on Friday nights. It's become a real neighborhood meeting spot. Not that newbies should be discouraged (not at all, it's EXTREMELY friendly). I've met several people who've been a little intimidated to go there because it's called a 'wine bar.' I'd encourage you to ignore that. It's a restaurant/bar that has a bigger wine list than most bars - but not some snooty place where wine is all you're expected to drink (and have a knowledge of), nor is it more expensive. It has a superb corner location with large picture windows on two sides, terrific sunlight; people-watching; romantic at night; lovely to watch the snow or rain. A special spot.

I’m turning into a regular here. The service is so friendly it feels like Cheers. The flatbread pizzas are really tasty as are their hummus options and meatballs. There’s live music on the weekends and plenty of outdoor seating. Love this spot.

What can I say about the best bar in New York? It’s not just the best bar in Sunnyside- Queens, I mean in the TOWN! First, the owners are an amazing couple that became my friends now and they are absolutely Amazing and Fabulous!! The best service, hospitality, a great team, Good vibes, great food and wonderful wines and drinks. What else can you expect? The best! On Fridays they have amazing live music like jazz, flamenco and some local bands.. I highly recommend the French sparkling rose wine and the Italian charcuterie, my favorite ❤️ What are you waiting to go for it? Definitely now I feel like home and always welcome in the place! Amazing hostess also! Enjoy 🎊🍾🎉✨ This place and the owners have my Heart now! 🌹❤️

Came in for happy hour and couldn't be any happier we did! Excellent options to choose from and superb service! Had a bottle of wine with a charcuterie board, muscles and olives, and the pate. All excellent! Jacki and Jen checked up on us and were helpful in our choices! Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu!

Jaclyn and Kevin (owners) and staff clearly know their customers - whether they do already or not! Perfect place for a low key yet classy sipping and dining (with live music on Fridays to pull it all together!) We love this place!!

Claret Wine Bar is the preeminent date spot in Queens, NY... easily, hands down. Located in the idyllic area of Sunnyside, Queens, Claret Wine Bar delivers an iconic dating experience where everything is meticulously thought of and seamlessly executed in making an unforgettable and most importantly FUN evening out that truly exceeds expectations. I have lived in the Sunnyside area happily for 5 years now and Claret has always been my goto date spot for sure but I would be remiss if I just called it that. Claret Wine Bar is so much more, where the neighborhood happily congregates and enjoys drinking, laughing, eating, and listening to great music together. It's a one of a kind spot where the owners and staff make you feel like family. Every single night they emulate the best holiday party you have ever been to. Once the weekend comes you will surely see a lively, thriving scene. They have live music weekly that is not genre specific and includes acoustic, jazz, rock, and even sometimes flamenco dancing!! If you are ever in Sunnyside, Woodside or in the Continental United States know that Claret Wine Bar is always an easy pick for a good time with your significant other, friends or family. They are a go to destination and I am so happy the wonderful people running it are apart of my amazing little neighborhood. Thank You!

Amazing cute little local spot. Clam chowder was amazing as well as the French baguette it brought. The pizza was also very good. I mostly liked the charcuterie platter. Me and my husband went for a romantic date and this definitely was a great spot. The candles and lighting set the mood.

The wine list is exquisite, my favorite being the Spanish Grenache but their California cabernet was absolutely delightful as well. The food was wonderful, plentiful and delicious. The cheese plate was fantastic and varied and Jackie was incredible in helping us decide which cheese and meat to pair with the wine we were drinking. In fact, Jackie was the best part of this already perfect evening! Shes warm, kind and an amazing host. The restaurant is beautiful, the food and wine enjoyable and the service was comforting and wholesome. Oh and the presentation was stunning… simply beautiful plating! Thank you for an utterly enjoyable evening on this last 80 degree day of 2024 💜

I’ve been coming to Claret for years and realized recently I had never written a review. Last week I enjoyed the most beautiful and delicious Caesar salad with grilled shrimp that I knew it was time to post! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and, side note, throw a kick ass Halloween party every year which I am looking very forward to.

Had the most enjoyable time at Claret Wine Bar! Our party of three arrived early, but Claret quickly filled up. Definitely a hidden gem in the charming neighborhood of Sunnyside. Jackie was most welcoming and treated us like family. When she heard it was my husband's birthday, she treated him to a Creme Brule! The food was delicious! I love that you can customize your own charcuterie board...there are so many options. A great place to relax, laugh and appreciate good times.

Forgot to post this review a while back but loved it and it should be known! My boyfriend and I on a Friday night walked by and saw live music going on and it peaked our interest, though the music seemed to just be wrapping up. The owners saw us outside and started chatting with us, talking about the beginnings of the bar and the changes in the neighborhood. They seemed like lovely people, so we decided we'd come the next weekend to try out the scene, and my goodness--SO glad we did. Now we missed the happy hour but we did still get to catch the live music of the week, which was a very cool Balkan Jazz Band. We saw the owners again (they remember us!), and we ordered some wine as per their recommendation. The red wine my boyfriend ordered was particularly really tasty, and as someone that doesn't normally try red wines even I was into it (it was a Red Tuscan wine, total recommend). We also tried the hummus and chocolate cake. The cake was good, moist and rich in all the right places, but definitely too big a piece to finish on my own. The hummus actually surprised me with how good it was and that really stood out. Overall, with the classy ambiance and all, I love this wine bar, the sweet owners, and the wine selections they have to offer. I will certainly be coming back so I can get a taste of more wines on this list, and so I can try the Truffle Mac and Cheese I keep hearing about!

One of the signature spots, and one of my personal faves, in all of Sunnyside! Great selection of beer, wine and spirits. Kevin, owner and bartender, has great conversations. The food is awesome around: charcuterie boards, flatbread pizzas, etc. My personal faves are the salmon tartine and clam chowder. Also live music many nights. What's not to like?

This wine bar is a neighborhood gem! I have been living in Sunnyside for about 3 years now & come back regularly. The owners Kevin & Jaci really care about their business & community. It shows in everything from their food & wine selection to the variety of weekly live music they bring in. Best happy hour in the neighborhood by far!! My favorites to get here aside from their charcuterie board or flatbreads are the truffle mac n cheese, mussels pil pil, and meatballs. If you are looking for a cozy wine bar in the neighborhood then this is your spot!

Great place! Me and my husband ordered the cheese and charcuterie board with 3 items (we chose 2 cheeses and one meat). All the boards come with bread, jam, grapes and mustard. Everything was very very good specially the drunken goat cheese and the fig jam. After that I tried a very generous slice of the fudge cake, which was perfectly balanced for me, not too sweet. We also ordered the cocktail strawberry lemonade, which was very light on the alcohol and it was what I wanted for this night, and the alewife Sunnyside beer, which my husband enjoyed very much. The staff was very welcoming and efficient. The place is clean, spacious and has tables indoors and outdoors. We will definitely be coming back for more!

My fiance and I absolutely love Claret, which is why after he proposed to me and surprised the heck out of me with all our friends and family - it was of course at Claret. Jaci & Kevin went absolutely above and beyond. The place was decorated beautiful, I assumed by my friends and family, to learn it was all done by Jaci! She printed and hung photos of us, got my favorite flowers, absolutely delicious local cupcakes, Jaci even brought her own polaroid camera. And the service all night was out of this world. Jaci & Kevin always provided great service, but they were on fire that night! They truly treat you like you're a dear friend, and make sure your night or event is one of a kind. Host your next event at Claret!!!

Best Advise! JACKIE IS ONE OF THE BEST WAITRESSES I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!! PLEASE, GIVE THIS GIRL A RAISE! 😂 The food, The drinks, The live music, the place, the bar, the service, they allow dogs, kids, it is a family place in the middle of Sunnyside which is an amazing neighborhood in Queens, New York; the atmosphere of it makes this place more magic than what it already is!!!! Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! This was our first but not our last time! THIS IS A NEW YORK MUST SEE! Loved it!

Went there last week on a whim. The bar next door closed their kitchen early on a Friday night in NYC (go figure). So I decided to eat here, I couldn't say no. Had the Mussels and it was good. The waiter Kevin was very cool, so was the bartender and hostess (sorry your names escape me) it was cool to see a live jazz fusion style band playing. Nice addition to the atmosphere of of Sunnyside.

Had a lovely evening with lots of laughs. Very attentive nice waiter who even laughed with us. We could decided so in my usually fashion I ordered all the things. Truffle flatbread, a large charcuterie board, and creme brûlée I think there was more but can’t remember because of all the Prosecco.

The music playing indoors this Wine Bar is the faboulous Gypsy Kings music making it very hard to resist its magnetic attraction . The Claret' patrons are very smart stylish . Intelligent European friendly females to have meamingsful historical conversarions & linguistic chats about the lands and dialects of Great Britain and countries & ancient & modern languages of Europe ! Great selection of cheese and wine that's priced well. Lot's of moms, their babies, and strollers (especially towards the dusk time). Bathroom was average.

J

Nice atmosphere good drinks. I think they would need a bigger selection in order for it to be considered a wine bar but nonetheless great vibe.

Food is very pricey, but the quality is there. Small beer selection but extremely extensive wine selection.

A

Friendly, considerate service. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the food was really slow to come out.

L
Lydia Santana

First, this place has a great vibe. The holiday decor was festive. Waitress was quick to seat us and was very attentive. We ordered a cheese platter and some drinks. Drinks were perfect and platter was fresh. After, we ordered a dessert, which was a small molten lava chocolate cake.

L
Lissi

The waiter that we had was nice...we just had drinks cause my fiance didn't want nothing from the menu. I was feeling the same way🤷. They have like more "Tapas" and Pizza...anyway I recommend it. But, if you get even hungrier you might have another choice crossing the street! 😋

V
V. P.A.

This is a good place for tapas, pizza, cheese platters, and drinks. If you are looking for something else, this isn't the place for you. It can get pretty crowded here. They have a small outdoor space at the front and their front wall mostly opens up so there's a lot of natural light during the day. The reason I deducted a star is that I think it's overpriced. However, that is the case with most restaurants like it in the area.

P
Pamela Oleas

I once asked for coffee and they said they didn't have. I asked for tea. They said they didn't have. How do you not have tea... Boil some water add some lemon. They also stop food service around 11pm 12am.... Saturday. I do like this place though. Great wines and the pizzas are great. Friendly staff and it's a cozy spot. Just don't go there expecting coffee.

T
Thomas Brambor

Nice bar, great atmosphere. Especially like the live music days. HOWEVER, unfortunately the wine selection sucks. Selling a glass of wine for $12 from a bottle that costs $6.99 in the store down the block is overpriced. Take a look at other wine bars (e.g. Domaine in LIC) and you will see that the quality of wine there is much(!) better. I'd love to see this improve.

L
Lari L

Food and wine great! One staff member (our waitress) couldn't explain a wine :/. I asked if it was dry and she replied "people like it" & that was the extent of her wine knowledge...had to take it down 1 star.

J
Jordan Smith

Even beyond the happy hour prices, this place is supremely affordable. Ommegang Rare Vos (not so rare anymore, really) was on tap, and was $6. For an actual pint (most of the time, though they will occasionally shaft you with a chalice (what it should be drank out of, but wouldn't you rather have several more ounces of beer than sip in smug satisfaction from a glass which impacts the beer in an all but imperceptible fashion to most? I thought so.)). Color me impressed. On most nights, it's a low-key, unpretentious sort of environment, but on some nights, it manages to get quite loud. As Sunnyside continues to grow in popularity with the younger set, those quiet nights will grow rarer.

Nice little spot to sit outside on the corner of Skillman to grab a drink and a quick bite before going out. Our server was great, but not overly friendly. The hummus and salmon tartine were just okay, but the prosciutto pizza was better (which they recommended). I can’t speak much about the wine since I don’t drink it, but I would say you go here mainly for the vibe, and likely the reason it’s always busy. I live a few blocks away and would definitely come back.

Food was delightful. Service a bit slow, lack of attention. It was not at all crowded but we waited quite a long time to have our order taken. Had to ask for water and refills.

Decent enough food. Not quite tapas but small plates. My main issue with this cozy wine bar has been service. I've gone 3 times over the years and they never have enough staff on the floor. If they added more servers this place would probably get 4 stars. Pizza/flat breads are ok. Wine selection is good and plentiful.

The menu and food are good. The waitstaff is a little rude and makes the experience a little unpleasant. Seems like a regualrs only kind of spot.

I was happy that I found a wine bar in my neighborhood. But I was very disappointed in bartender's attitude. He was very rude and unprofessional.

Editing My Review In Response To The Owners Response: As expected the owner is sorry for my experience, but not sorry that it was ONLY their direct actions that contributed to the poor experience. I'd be willing to back up my personal account with a police report if necessary. I'm sorry that you misheard a personal conversation outside, and I'm also sorry that you decided to do what you did. Feel free to give me a personal call fully apologizing for confronting me verbally (wrongly, I was bragging about your service outside), and putting your hand on my SO, and I'd be happy to discuss removing this review about my poor experience. ********************* Unfortunately, I just had a very poor experience at this establishment. Was here as a part of a group for a party and had an otherwise excellent time throughout the night. I went out front toward the end of the party and was joking and having a good time with other party members, and had positive things to say about the establishment. The party was ending, and I made a joke regarding how even though the party was ending, it was highly unlikely that they would kick a large party out of their establishment, especially with everyone drinking and having a good time. I mentioned that doing something like that would result in poor reviews, which I couldn't possible imagine. During this time, the owner of the establishment overheard my personal conversation and sadly misheard or misinterpreted my personal conversation. The owner personally confronted me and asked me to come to the front of the restaurant. Here, she confronted me and told me that her husband, the other owner, heard what I said and wanted to know what the issue with their service was. I was obviously confused, as this was highly unusual. My girlfriend started to interject and the owner turned to her and touched her, and told her "I'm not talking to you." from there I walked away from the situation. It's highly likely that the owner may disagree with my account of events, so I FULLY CONSENT to the sharing of any and all surveillance or security footage that the owner may think would refute my description of events. My partner and I left the establishment disappointed in this very uniquely rude experience.

Insanely utterly expensive... got hummus as a snack and the portion size is laughable: smaller than a fist for $9. Told the waiter and he did nothing. Drinks are also over priced. Have tried multiple times. Won’t be returning ever.

Adding to my review in response: You are blatantly lying and you know it. I hope someone has the time to review the cameras and see how you treated my friend for no reason. At no point did he ever ask if it was a service animal - let alone to ask about what task it performs. You were rude from the beginning. My friend was speaking in a light tone after you yelled at us and all he said was that he didn’t think you were right - you just didn’t like that he said you were wrong about service animals having to be on the floor. You also made the scene and let everyone know someone in our party had a disability - DISGUSTING! Also - you are still denying it! Read the law! You can’t tell a handler where their dog has to be and whether they can pet them or not. Second review in another name? How not to respond to patron complaints 101. lol Absolutely stunned at how one of the owners treated my patron friend and his service animal while creating an embarrassing scene. Never experienced anything like this! Really needs to do his research before he has legal issues for discrimination. Lied and said service animals need to be on the floor - NOT TRUE AT ALL - as it depends on the service they provide. Some need to be able to smell the owner’s breath or be near their chest for diabetes/seizures, etc. Whatever position they need to be in to perform their service! Also said that he can’t pet his own service animal! Where do they get this nonsense! Other people may not pet a service animal - but the handler can! You can only ask two questions: is it a service animal? What task has the dog been trained to perform? That’s it!! Nothing about petting or putting the animal on the floor. Unbelievable how the owner treated us - did not even ask us to wait for a table outside - just told us we need to leave while creating a scene.

Editing my review to respond to owner comment: You did not ask me anything simply. You were aggressive and rude from the beginning yelling for us to get up after we had already sat down and go wait on a nonexistent line. But we did what you asked nicely - we got up, we went to the area where a line would have been - only for the waitress to tell us we can go sit down where we had just sat! It was ridiculous, rude and a power trip for you to make us get up just for us to be sat down 30 seconds later in the same exact chairs! I gave you the benefit of the doubt since we had been there before and went to sit even though you were being very rude from the beginning. As we approached the bar the second time, you did not ask me to step outside and wait for a table because you saw a dog on my chest, you said “you need to leave now, can’t have a dog in here “- I then approached the bar and responded - it’s a service animal - in a light voice so that it wouldn’t be announced to the entire bar that someone in our party has a disability that requires a service animal. You then yelled while announcing this now to the entire bar - SERVICE ANIMALS NEED TO BE ON THE FLOOR AND YOU CANT PET THEM! - I again approached the bar and said lightly - I don’t think that’s true. You proceeded to yell and repeat the same thing and tell us that we needed to leave while getting unnecessarily angry! You I hope you spent some time that night doing some research and realizing how wrong and ignorant you were. According to the ADA - Service animals DO NOT need to be on the floor - nor is it your place to tell a handler where to put a service animal and whether they can or can’t pet them! You can only ask if it’s a service animal and what task they perform - maybe then you would have understood why it can’t be on the floor. I was in utter shock at your rude and aggressive tone. Never in my life - had I experienced something like this at any service establishment. It was completely appalling and no place should exist where an owner can treat a patron that way. Anyone who goes to your establishment supports this toxic behavior!

The food and my highball were excellent. The Bartender was a complete abusive morn to say the least . I spoke to him about the bread, it was over cooked and hard as a rock as stale bread is. The bread was not stale but I was using the word to explain how hard and not edible it was . I asked for more bread and now he cops an attitude, telling me I need to be patient and telling me it was only 3 mins ago, more like 10 mins. I wanted it to accompany my pate that was just laying there . When I leave he’s coming back in and starts up with me AGAIN about the bread. I told him oh stuff like this happens. The mussels , the crème brûlée and also my Highball, which was a amaretto sour were all a perfect 10. The two female staff waitresses were excellent. The bald bartender with the high pitched annoying voice and ignorant personality is why I will avoid at all cost. What a shame, because they have a wonderful menu, dinks and the rest of my food I mentioned was perfect. Dear bartender, a gentleman does not verbally abuse women. Maybe this job has got the better of you!
