Opinions de Grass Roots Kitchen Tarrytown
Loved the many vegan options and the delicious food. I had the vegan philly cheesesteak burrito and it was very tasty! Their house seitan was wonderful. The restaurant area was clean. Highly recommend!
Lots of delicious gluten free options. Wonderful blends of flavors. Friendly staff. Utterly amazing chocolate chip cookie and pecan bar.
Great food! Incredible service by the two ladies who were running the cafe right now. I had the grain bowl! 👌. This will be my new breakfast/brunch spot when I’m working in the area. Highly recommend. Again…. Service was top notch!
We came here as our first stop after getting off the train from NYC to explore the area and I’m so glad we did. The Oyster Mushroom Po’ Boy was SO GOOD, the mushrooms are so crispy and flavorful and the bun and harissa aioli add to the deliciousness. The Philly “Cheese Steak” Burrito was good as well, but make sure to ask for a side of hot sauce or harissa aioli to add some more flavor. This was a great option for myself (omnivore) and my vegan partner. We may have to come back to Tarrytown just for that mushroom Po’ Boy!
I will be returning! I'm obsessed but also bummed I don't have a Grass Roots closer to my home and had to travel over 50 miles to reach this GEM of a place. Thank you for all your fresh food, wonderful vegan options, for your dedication and service to the healthy community. LOVE LOVE LOVE this cafe!
I came here yesterday for lunch after doing the Riverwalk. I got the Thai kale salad and sweet potato soup. Both were excellent. Woman who took my order and brought my food out was very nice. I highly recommend!
When I ordered the salmon burger the lady at the counter let me know they do lunch specials now! I was really pleased to get a soup, a sandwich, and a biscuit for UNDER $15!!! The salmon burger was quite literally a slice of salmon! It was delicious, juicy, and warm even after the walk home. The toppings on it complement it really well! The food is wholesome with affordable prices.
Grass Roots Kitchen is such a gem! The food is absolutely delicious, the space is clean and inviting, and the prices are very reasonable a rare combo these days. I loved that there were options for everyone, whether you're craving something hearty or something lighter. The Buffalo Cauliflower bites were a standout perfectly crunchy and packed with flavor. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. Highly recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem for Clean, Healthy Eating! I was in Tarrytown for work and needed something quick but healthy—and wow, I’m so glad I found Grassroots Kitchen. It’s rare to find a spot that truly understands clean eating, but this place absolutely nails it. The food is fresh, packed with protein, loaded with vibrant vegetables, and clearly made with real care. Every bite felt nourishing. They were also super accommodating to my specific health needs, which made a big difference. I walked in hungry and health-conscious—walked out energized and ready to crush the rest of my day. Thanks to Grassroots Kitchen, I’m feeling great, clear-headed, and fueled for a productive workday. Can’t recommend this place enough for anyone who wants to eat clean without sacrificing flavor. Truly one of the best healthy meals I’ve ever had.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Very tasty yet simple fresh goods. I can appreciate this in a world overabundant in fillers and refined sugars. It was a bit pricey for a buffal cauliflower salad with chicken and a burger with no sides but we also had an appetizer - the buffalo cauliflower bites. None the less would go again.
What a delight of a lunch spot. Grass Roots kitchen has a wonderfully varied menu full of delicious, nutritious selections. The kale salad was perfection, as was the white bean soup (a special). My mom and I also enjoyed the buffalo cauliflower bites and my mom loved her burger. They have wonderful plant-based options for vegetarians and vegans. We also sampled their sweets, a scone and chocolate chip cookie, both of which were delicious. Absolutely loved it here!
This amazing restaurant is located a few minutes walk from the train station. They have an excellent selection of vegan options. My pancakes were prefect. The pecan bar is one of the best deserts I’ve had, I highly recommend it! The best part of my meal was the soup. It was divine. Everything was fantastic! Service is friendly the prices are reasonable the restaurant is clean and the food is 10 out of 10.
We loved Grass Roots. We stopped here for lunch as we were passing through and it was a pleasant surprise. I split the vegan bbq chicken bowl with a grain base with my daughter and we also split a banana muffin. It was really great. I tried a bit of my husband's chocolate banana pudding and it was to die for. The service was fast and friendly. I would go back next time I'm in the area.
Went in for brunch after a run. The burger I ordered was delish. I inhaled in seconds. Very cheap compared to the city. Lots of vegan options. The freshly pressed juice was awesome too. The freshly baked buttermilk biscuits is a must try. Brought back some for home too. Lots of indoor & outdoor seating area. Self service & it’s clean.
Love, love, love the food here! Ordered the lumber jack pancakes (blueberry as you can see) with bacon and scrambled eggs and a side of bisquit and avocados. Delicious all the way around. The service here is also great! We asked the cashier for recommendations and she was able to suggest some options. They have options for just about everything. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten, and meat options. Inside is spacious and they set up two outside seats which is nice on a good sunny day. They are actually growing peppers and rosemary 🤗. I would definitely visit again to try their lunch/dinner menu. Oh and they serve breakfast all day! ❤️
All vegan but not all tasty. The Korean BBQ wrap is yummy! As is the lunch special black bean soup. But the Philly Cheesesteak was nasty. Lots of bottled drinks and some fresh baked options. Variety of smoothies. Plenty of free parking. Not far from the Headless Horseman churchyard/cemetery.
Grassroots kitchen was a good way to kickstart our Tarrytown weekend. Healthy options all around. From drinks, soups, meals - something for everyone who views the menu. Comfortable and small. Spacious for a bigger group towards the back or a few seats at the front. Service was good, food was healthy and delicious. I enjoyed looking at menu and it's healthy benefits, staying green with utensils and other cookware, and the art on the wall. Parking is available at the front, all payments accepted, service was friendly and good. Thank you for keeping us healthy with various options.
So many vegan options 🔥🤤 can we talk about the fries? Can we talk about them? Do they make them or do they steal then from the McDonald's next door and perfect them? The salmon avocado sandwich was pretty good! I loved the seeded bread and the beet flavor was not overwhelming. Also tried the veggie burrito and it was good! Much more flavor than I expected. Vegan mac and cheese is hard to pull off and this one was not the worst, maybe a 6.5 - 7 if you add some pepper.
This was my first time at Grassroots Kitchen after a friend recommended it, and honestly I was really disappointed. When my friends and I walked in, we were being friendly and chatting with the person at the register while deciding what to order. Then an older white lady with short, above-shoulder-length hair suddenly stepped in, said she’d take over, and right away her attitude was rude. No “hi,” no “thank you,” nothing. She immediately told us to move over because we were “blocking the entrance,” but the way she said it was completely unnecessary. The menu is written on a board above the counter as soon as you walk in, so you kind of have to stand there to read it. She could have easily said it nicely or handed us paper menus, but instead she spoke down to us like we were in her way. What really bothered me was how polite she was to the next few customers, completely different tone. It honestly felt like she had a problem with us for no reason. The whole vibe was uncomfortable, and she even kept glancing at us while we were eating. The food might be fine, but the service completely ruined it. The woman really needs to work on how she talks to customers. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.
Food is quite bland and expensive for what it is. If you are vegan, please know there’s MUCH better in the area. The only reason we came here is because we are traveling and this place was open and convenient for us to stop at. However, nothing else about this place was convenient. Never have I ever been to a place where they expect waitstaff to seat you but they don’t bring you eating utensils. Outside seating is littered with trash and dead plants. Be prepared to put your foot down with the waitstaff because when you order something off their menu, they’ll only give you a portion of it unless you confront them. They literally argued with my husband that his dish didn’t come with bacon… when it’s on their menu and the reason why he ordered that dish. Waitstaff came out with ONE slice of bacon “because the chef was being nice”. How about this - update your menu with all the money you are saving robbing your clientele. By the way, it’s weird having refried beans on avocado toast. You can fully expect a charge back from us. 😊
