Tutti i piatti erano deliziosi.
We stumbled on this place in Bellagio for lunch and realized shortly thereafter that it’s pretty high in demand and they don’t take reservations. I think we were an exception to most people having to wait a long time, as we sat after about 10 minutes. It was the best food we ate in northern Italy during our 8 day stay. The ravioli were excellent and the pasta special was also fantastic. We were recommended to order the tiramisu by someone who was finishing their meal and it absolutely did not disappoint.
We arrived early to secure a spot at this popular trattoria, joining several other diners already waiting on the restaurant’s steps (complete with thoughtfully provided cushions). Many guests, ourselves included, grabbed wine from across the street to enjoy while waiting, a pleasant way to pass the time. The wait proved absolutely worthwhile. We were lucky enough to snag an outdoor table beside the charming stone steps on a perfect evening. The couple seated next to us had dined here the previous night and returned immediately, a telling endorsement we soon understood. The osso buco was exceptional: incredibly tender and flavorful. Even my wife, who typically avoids veal, thoroughly enjoyed it. The fettuccine with meat sauce was equally impressive, with both pasta and sauce clearly made fresh in-house. Our service throughout the evening was outstanding. Arrive early, as this restaurant fills up incredibly fast. They operate limited evening hours and we watched them turn away disappointed diners later in the night. If you don’t make it into the first seating, expect at least an hour-long wait. However, the exceptional food and atmosphere make any wait worthwhile, we would have absolutely returned if we’d had another evening in Bellagio. This is destination dining that justifies the crowds and the wait time.
It opens for a short period of time and no resos so get there before it opens. Grab a wine from the place across from it and sit on the steps until your name is called. The food is all freshly made. I went here twice. First time I had the lamb ragu and ossu buco the second time. Friendly staff!
Small, quaint place. Sign outside says they do not take reservations. Friendly, attentive staff. The food was SPECTACULAR! Large menu and large wine and drink selection. We had the special of the day, Gnocchi di Pesto, and the Tagliata di Manzo. The Pesto Gnocchi was phenomenal and the steak and vegetables were done perfectly! There is a reason this place is one of the higher rated restaurants that we could find right around the area. If they have a table open, eat here, would certainly be worth a wait as well. Wonderful meal just off of a seemingly busy photo stop just above Lake Como.
Even the wait was enjoyable! They provide cushions for you to sit in the steps. We bought a bottle of wine from their wine shop and sat visiting with each other and some other patrons, enjoying the views, fresh air and wine. The wait was very reasonable. Food… amazing. Highly recommend the vanilla custard dessert. Service and staff top notch.
Great food and friendly male staff (though the lady staff was a bit assertive). The food was served quickly and cooked to perfection. The location is fantastic, right by the famous steps and passage in Bellagio “Salita Serbelloni”. The chocolate cake was unforgettable – truly delicious! I didn’t try the tiramisu because it contained alcohol, but I appreciate that the staff informed me about suitable options without me needing to ask (no alcohol and no pork). Many thanks to the team!
Our visit to Trattoria San Giacomo was nothing short of extraordinary. The staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond to assist us with our meal choices. Despite the restaurant being crowded, they managed to serve our food promptly, showcasing their efficiency and dedication to customer satisfaction. The food was a gastronomic delight. The cheese platter was one of the best I’ve ever had, offering a variety of flavors that tantalized the taste buds. The fresh fish of the day was cooked to perfection, providing a delightful seafood experience. The highlight of the meal was the homemade chocolate cake, which was absolutely delicious. I would recommend pairing it with vanilla ice cream for an enhanced dessert experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant, with music adding to the overall dining experience. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, making it a perfect place for both casual and special occasions. In conclusion, Trattoria San Giacomo offers a unique dining experience with its friendly staff, prompt service, and delectable food. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit!
This restaurant is worth the wait. Get there early, grab a glass of wine, sit on the pillows, and wait for a table. You get great food and experience!

Lovely customer service, great wine and food pairing and THE BEST tiramisu and Ben Rye (Donnafugata dessert wine). Cheese plate was very good, there were cheeses from bellagio.

Strudel ottimo. Che dire di più? Contesto minimal buono per chi cammina. No parcheggio.
Staff gentile e premuroso. Prezzi nella media.
Trattoria semplice, quasi spartana.

First off.. the caprese salad was the worst we have ever had. The buffalo mozzarella was hard and old and the tomatoes were not ripe. Not a great start. I have to say the burger wasn't that bad for Italy. The grilled fish was pretty good too. Missing on the caprese gets the three stars. They also messed up our order and brought my wife the wrong dish.
Waited 2 hours for our table because sadly they only take walk in and you’ll need to sit by the steps in case your name is being called. Staff were all pretty rude at the start (maybe because they’re busy). But they became friendlier once you’re seated inside. Saw a lot of mixed reviews before coming here, and I have to say the negative reviews were right about the bland food and not worth the wait…. I have no idea why is their pasta so bland especially when it’s their signature. They have great wine list though! The salad was quite alright too… but no not the pastas unfortunately ☹

A little disappointed! After greatly enjoying the atmosphere and nibbles yesterday at the wine bar opposite called aperitivo et at! I was excited to eat in their restaurant partner! Got there early…
I really don’t understand the high reviews for this place. I ordered the anchovies (usually in other parts of Italy they come as a dish and they’re marinated)but they gave me a tin of anchovies and some crackers. It cost €18. You can buy a tin of anchovies at the store for less than €1. The presentation looked horrible for the price. The pasta was not fresh and the sauce was coagulated and dried, meaning it had likely been reheated in a microwave. The meat we ordered was very dry. It was really expensive for very low quality food. Definitely a tourist trap, pleaaaase avoid this place. Service is also extremely slow.
We waited in line 45 minutes before they opened as you have to or you won’t get a spot, no reservations accepted. They have cushions you can crab and sit on the steps. Inside they play older American music loudly. Wish they had Italian music, would make for a better ambiance. After we were seated inside a little after 7pm it took 15 minutes to take our drink orders then another 15-20 minutes to get our water and coke delivered. We ordered the salad and soup of the day which were fine after we doused them with salt. We ordered the Osso Buco di Vitelo and the Tagliolini with meat sauce. Both were very bland and had no taste, had to douse them with salt. The beef shank was soft and tasted good after seasoning. The pasta was below average even after seasoning, barely any sauce or meat. Over all disappointed with the experience-this is a very hyped up place and not worth the hoops you have to jump through and time to get in here. We hoped for a better experience, but will not be coming back.

Unfortunately, our experience here was quite underwhelming. The service staff were rather rude and the loud American rock music felt out of place in what was meant to be a quaint Italian restaurant. The real disappointment, however, was the food. Our meals took an unusually long time to arrive while guests who came after us were already enjoying their mains while we were still waiting for our appetizers. When I politely asked the waiter about our order, his curt reply “it takes time to cook”, came across as unnecessarily rude. When the food finally arrived, it didn’t live up to expectations. The soup was bland and needed plenty of salt, and my dish of boiled rice with breaded fish consisted of a mount of plain rice topped with just four small pieces of fried fish, something more fitting for a cafeteria than a restaurant in Bellagio. My friend’s pork ribs with polenta were equally disappointing, the meat was so tough it couldn’t be cut easily, let alone fall off the bone. After two wonderful weeks of dining across Italy, this was unfortunately the worst meal of our trip. A real shame, as we were hoping for a memorable lunch on our only day in Bellagio. Sadly, we wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
Trattoria San Giacomo is the place you find yourself at after you’ve failed to make dinner reservations elsewhere. The wait isn’t too bad. You are in the prettiest part of Bellagio and they offer pillows that you can sit down on as you wait on the stairs. They try their best to accommodate everyone and the staff is very communicative about timing. The food is not great. Perhaps some dishes are good, but overall not great. I decided to keep it simple—I ordered the pasta dish of the day which was a mushroom pasta and the fresh ricotta and spinach ravioli in sage and butter sauce. The pasta dish with mushrooms was so bad that I had them replace it, which they were kind enough to do with no charge. The mushrooms were boiled, tasteless and soggy. The pasta was served with the boiling water it came with, or that’s what I’m assuming as it was clear and bland. The ricotta ravioli on the other hand was good. Good, but not great. This is definitely a restaurant catered to tourists, which is fine. You’re just not going to have a fantastic meal here.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to a restaurant that’s more overhyped than this one. It’s only open for five hours a day, and yet the staff acts like they’re doing you a favor just by letting you eat there. While our waiter was actually kind and professional, one particular staff member was shockingly rude — not just to us, but to every single person she interacted with. Her attitude created a tense, unwelcoming atmosphere that made the entire experience feel like we were peasants begging to be fed rather than paying customers. We had heard great things about this place and were told it was a “must-visit,” so despite some early red flags, we gave it a try — especially because people kept raving about their tiramisu. Sadly, even the food couldn’t redeem the experience. The way the food looks in the photo is how it tastes. Everything we ordered was bland and underseasoned, and the tiramisu — which was supposedly their specialty — was the worst I’ve had in all of Italy. To make matters worse, it was raining the day we visited, and instead of letting guests wait under the covered awning, this same staff member insisted everyone wait in the rain. There was absolutely space to accommodate people, but she clearly chose not to out of spite. It honestly seemed like she got satisfaction out of making people uncomfortable. Not only would I not recommend this restaurant — I would actively advise others to avoid it. The service alone is enough to ruin your meal, and the food is simply not worth the hype.
PLEASE DONT WAIT IN LINE! It’s NOT WORTH IT!! The food is gross and you’re treated so badly. What a joke. Absolutely ridiculous service and it’s not even worth it because the food sucks. Btw they won’t share their WiFi. We tried the osso buco, flavor. The chicken with polenta, and ravioli. The tiramisu was also terrible. I’ve had better ones in America.
