A beautifully situated inn at 1,200 meters above sea level, offering excellent food. I had a cappuccino and curd cake (called Quarkstrudel here because 99% of the guests are German and don't understand Tyrolean), which was excellent! Highly recommended for a rest stop!

You emerge from the forest, 1,000 meters of elevation gain under your belt, and you just want to arrive. And? You're allowed to arrive here. 2 shared rooms, 5 beds and 2 beds, and we were the only guests (11 people - hiking group). We were allowed to choose where we wanted to sleep. Great! The best part: every bed had a power outlet for charging our phones, its own nightlight, and plenty of hooks for hanging jackets, trousers, etc., if they got wet in the rain. A paradise of a bed camp. Everything looked so new, even though it had been in operation for over 10 years. Even the showers and toilets - everything was well thought out. No wish was left unfulfilled. Especially not at dinner. Traditional cuisine - like every evening, yet different - tasty, delicious, and actually always too much. We spent six days hiking the Merano High Trail, and I had the impression that what I was allowed to eat wasn't in line with my daily intake. I think I even ended up gaining a little more weight. Take care... :-)

The Gasthaus Talbauer is an ideal place to stop for refreshments on the way from Auer Castle to the Hochmuth mountain station – perfectly situated with a breathtaking view of the Adige Valley. The food was excellent: freshly prepared, authentic, and absolutely delicious! Special mention goes to the fluffy Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake), the hearty dumplings – and the noodle soup, of which our son ate two portions. That speaks volumes! The terrace offers a wonderful view of the valley, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Payment is easy and can be made by card or cash – very straightforward. A truly harmonious experience in a magnificent location. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to combine culinary delights with panoramic views!

An absolutely worthwhile excursion! Starting with the lift to Hochmuth, you'll enjoy spectacular views of Merano and the Adige Valley right from the start. From the mountain station, a beautiful, approximately 25-minute hiking trail leads to the Talbauer farm – easy to walk and very well signposted. Upon arrival at the Talbauer, you'll be greeted with warm hospitality and fantastic South Tyrolean cuisine. The dumplings are a particular highlight – fresh, homemade, and simply delicious. The service was also attentive, quick, and exceptionally friendly. After your meal, the leisurely 3-kilometer return hike to the valley station is accompanied by breathtaking panoramic views. In short: A perfect half-day excursion guaranteed to be enjoyable – nature, good food, and wonderful people. Highly recommended!

We slept and ate here on our hike on the Meraner Höhenweg. Since there isn't much going on on the high trail, we were the only guests and we felt like kings. Everything very clean and renovated. The dumplings were absolutely amazing. After dinner we were able to while away the evening playing games and reading travel reports (Meraner Höhenweg 2007 & Alpen travel guide) in the dining room. Rooms and showers were very clean, the bed was comfortable and there were shutters. Can unreservedly recommend the inn. It was also nice to be able to look up and look back every day later in Merano.

If you take the cable car from the village of Tirol up to the Hochmuth, this inn is an ideal destination for a hike. The 200 meters of elevation gain for the round trip are perfectly sufficient for inexperienced hikers. It's a better option than the 750-meter descent to the valley station. Passing the Muthöfe farms, hikers will find an inn offering good food and refreshing drinks. And, of course, there's a magnificent view – all for free.

We passed by here on our hike. We sat on the terrace with a fantastic view. The service was friendly and quick. The drinks were nice and cold, and the food was delicious. The salads were from their own garden, and the ham and smoked salami were homemade. Highly recommended!

The Talbauer Inn can be reached via hiking trail no. 23. The starting point is the Tiroler Kreuz (Tyrolean Cross). Alternatively, you can walk up the forest road. Both routes take about an hour and involve some steep uphill sections. Once you arrive at the Talbauer, there's a terrace with a magnificent view. We had goulash and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake), both of which were delicious.

I would have loved to eat the fresh boiled potatoes, but it was too early for me to eat. A lovely inn to stop for a rest. I liked it. Try the peppermint juice. Delicious.

I can actually say that every year we visit the Thalbauer with friends on a hike and have lunch there. The food is undoubtedly excellent – ​​the view magnificent – ​​so I highly recommend it. What's absolutely unacceptable, however, is that today, September 9, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m., we were served by such an unfriendly young woman... unbelievable... we haven't experienced anything like that all year. I would advise this person to find another job. She's completely out of place as a waitress. We were all so upset that this review had to be written immediately.
