Hermoso lugar, bastante gente.
He ido 2 veces. En 2016 y ayer (2022). Siempre buen ambiente, buena música y excelente comida.
I honestly don’t understand how this place only has a 4.3 rating (yes, I read most of the comments to understand) — it’s probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Tulum, and I tried a few from the Michelin Guide. I read a lot of the reviews and I really don’t get the complaints. People, this is Tulum — everything is expensive. If that’s an issue, you better find another destination ;-). Rating a restaurant poorly because it’s pricey, charges for water, or because you had to wait for a table feels exaggerated, especially when this place is fully booked every single night. It’s almost impossible to get a next-day reservation, and for good reason. The food is outstanding — full of flavor without being overly spicy or drowned in sauces like many other places. The tuna tartare tostadas were my favorite starter, and the lobster was absolutely delicious (yes, expensive, but worth it). For dessert, we tried the honey cake on our first visit — good, but the sweet corn ice cream on our second visit was truly special. The service deserves a mention as well. Even though our reservation somehow wasn’t in their system and we had to wait a bit, the staff were incredibly friendly and still managed to find us a table. Overall, an excellent experience and a place I’d happily return to.
I would go back to Hartwood many times. The chill vibes, amazing service and great food are the headline. Bianca not only introduced herself, she shook our hands and was like a culinary guide. I had the spiny lobster and the honey cake is not to be missed. Anything you have here will be amazing.
Hartwood Tulum delivers an unforgettable dining experience rooted in fire, flavor, and atmosphere. The open-air setting, centered around a glowing wood-fired kitchen, creates a warm, almost theatrical energy that feels both rustic and refined. The cocktail program is exceptional, with the Balam standing out as a favorite—a bright, refreshing mix of grapefruit and Mexican gin that perfectly complements the smoky, tropical surroundings. Everything about the space feels intentional, from the candlelit tables to the hum of the open flame in the background. The food is equally impressive, showcasing bold flavors and impeccable technique. Standout dishes include the Gambas de Maya, beautifully cooked and deeply flavorful, the vibrant ceviche, and the expertly grilled butterflied red snapper, which is both simple and outstanding. To finish, the sweet corn ice cream is an absolute must—unexpected, balanced, and unforgettable. Hartwood is the kind of place that leaves such a strong impression you find yourself planning a return visit before you’ve even left, and it’s no surprise we went back more than once.
This place is totally one of a kind, far surpasses every other resturaunt in Zona hoteleria. You cannot miss this on yout trip to tlTulum! Carlos, our server was incredible and so friendly, he was also incredibly helpful to us non-spanish speakers. Made all the difference. Please come see hartwood and Carlos !
If there was a 6th star i would have used it!! The attention to details in every plate is crazy. Top quality ingredients, and for sure great chefs that work really hard to make everything perfect. The drinks were excellent. Probably one of the best restaurant i’ve been in a while. Special mention to Bianca our amazing server that made our dinner even more special with her recommendation and treat us so good even with a super busy restaurant. Don’t think, just go to Hartwood!!
A truly unique dining experience in Tulum. The food is simple but beautifully executed, with fresh and local ingredients that feel alive and full of flavor. The atmosphere is magical—open-air, candlelit, and perfectly Tulum. Service is outstanding, 10/10. A must for anyone who appreciates real, soulful cooking.
Dinner here was amazing! Every dish we had was better than the previous one and the first one was terrific. Ivan, our waiter, was a total pleasure and his recommendations were spot on! We tried just about everything on the menu, so we had quite a few leftovers for delicious tacos the next morning! Hartwood is known for seafood, but, if the ribs are on the menu, give them serious consideration. The sauce was mind blowing! The atmosphere and music were great. The music is a bit loud, but it just amplifies (pun intended) the experience. It’s an open air venue, with lots of other places around there, so without a little volume, everything would bleed in. Not cheap, but a really great value by US price standards. Reservations are a must!
12/10 experience! Yes it is on the pricier side, but remember where you are- everything is a bit pricier and you are paying for location and convenience. Our server Marvin was an absolute Ray of sunshine, he made this experience unique, personal, and fun! We ordered several dishes to share, highly recommend doing this as everything was phenomenal. The drinks were unique and delicious and can be made alcohol free. The quality and freshness was certainly there and the ambiance and atmosphere was lovely but boutique. No club music and people trying to get you to eat there, their food speaks for itself. Don't miss this dining experience!
The food and service gives Michelin Star! The food was super fresh and delicious, and the cocktails and honey cake were just as amazing. We've never had food that tasted so good and felt so good to eat... I'm not even exaggerating. Everything is freshly caught every day, the staff were super helpful and attentive, and the vibe of this outdoor dining experience is the perfectly dim lit mood for date night. There isn't any electricity so everything is lit by candlelight and by the exposed outdoor kitchen in the back. If you're on Tulum, Hartwood definitely needs to be one of your stops, if not the last dinner of your trip like it was ours. Such a perfect end to our trip and we can't wait to come back! Our recs: appetizers-- the tostada de tartare, the shrimp, mains-- the octopus over potatoes, the angus steak, the grill charred beet (you can't order without trying it!), and dessert-- the honey cake
What an incredible dining experience! The ambiance is vibrant, the food is absolutely delicious, and the service is top-notch. The only downside? The seating, unfortunately, quite uncomfortable and the one detail that kept the experience from being perfect. The menu is ever-evolving, which keeps things exciting. Here are a few standout dishes from our visit: 1. The octopus – hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, served with crispy potatoes. 2. The robalo (snook) – simply out of this world. 3. The tartar tostadas – unbelievably good, bursting with flavor. 4. The arrachera (grilled beef) – cooked directly over the fire. Absolutely AMAZING. Special shoutout to Matias from Argentina, our server, very friendly, attentive, and his recommendations were spot-on. Truly exceptional service! I would love to return, but I really hope they consider upgrading the seating—comfort should match the excellence of the rest of the experience.

The food and service were amazing here. It’s a really chill, open restaurant with a relaxed feel and friendly staff. Great music too. We tried the prawns, seabass, and octopus.
We really enjoyed to be there as the food was excellent and the service perfect and very friendly. It is a bit expensive especially for Mexico but overall, we really had a good time

The service and wait staff were outstanding. Very personable, prompt and welcoming. The food itself was okay. We ordered the shrimp, fish tostada, pork ribs and honey pie. The shrimp and pie were the sellers of the meal. The toastada and pork were nothing special. I dont think the meal overall was worth the price as the portions were small and not everything was note worthy but the overall experience was great.

The restaurant is good overall, but in my opinion it is quite pricey for the small portion sizes. Another thing I didn’t appreciate was the water charge. When they asked if I wanted water, I said tap water was fine (like in Canada, where it’s usually complimentary). At the end, I noticed we were charged 200 MXN for it, which was really not nice at all. I honestly feel they use this method to charge tourists who don’t know that water is not complimentary in Mexico.
The atmosphere of the restaurant at first glance seems nice but the details ruined the experience: the music was off-theme & SO LOUD. The level of noise from the music was genuinely frustrating for us and distracted from the food & ambience. Service was quite pushy as well. We sat down to our reservation ~30 minutes early but we were asked to leave an hour after our reservation time so we weren’t able to sit back and enjoy the end of the meal. I ended up finishing my glass of wine standing at the front of the restaurant. They gave us shots of mezcal for the trouble. The food was good but not INCREDIBLE. We had an inventive ceviche in a fermented pineapple sauce, the famous prawns, octopus entree & whole roasted catch of the day. It was tasty but nothing to write home about. When I ordered white wine they served it in a STEMLESS GLASS ?? In the hot climate of Tulum I couldn’t believe it. Nothing ruins the experience of drinking wine like a stemless glass - something I would expect at a dive bar maybe but certainly not a restaurant like this. Also, the candle right inside the bathroom door fell over on my boyfriend when he walked in & it burned his arm with candle wax. Thankfully, by the time I made it in there someone had blown the candle out.
Food was good but experience was not great! Waited 35 mins for a seat when we were told it would be 10 minutes. Music was very bad. And very loud. We could barely talk. Waiter was slow and a little rude. We got natural juice becuase we dont drink alcohol (they charged us price of alcoholic drinks $280 for a bitter warm watermelon juice.) And added 18% gratuity automatically. I tip but only for good service. See receipt. Food was so small and I left still hungry. We both eaten alive by whatever bugs were in the rocks on the floor. Left wishing I didnt sit down.
I was so excited to dine at Hartwood for my birthday but our experience left us feeling like we’d wasted upwards of $500. The overall vibe & ambiance was immaculate, however the food & service was not up to par. The cocktails were just okay - nothing special. We were seated right near the entrance & even though we ordered a decent amount of food I felt that our waitress was somewhat ignoring us. The fish & lobster were bland, we’d ordered a beetroot appetizer that was quite literally a single large charred beet on top of a thin smear of sauce. I feel like Hartwood was way over-hyped & beyond over-priced for what we experienced, which was a disappointment.

Pricing is insane!!! Look how much you pay for a simple salad. People will not come back to Tulum with this kind of pricing. The Town is completely empty and everyone is complaining about prices. I spend $350 USDLRS for dinner for 2 people without a Desert, without alcohol and without coffee. The food is very good but pricing should be at least 50% less!!! Nowhere in the World you find prices like this ???? Tulum will not survive like this. It is very sad because the place is so nice. For the price I no recommend this restaurant at all. Labor cost is very cheap, I talked to the waiters and they get paid very little money. Someone is taking advantage of your wallet here. Be careful!!!
