I have just moved to London from Miami, FL. I stumbled upon this restaurant on a day trip to Tunbridge Wells. It is single-handedly the best Italian restaurant in the country. I mean it when I say this is the most authentic Italian restaurant in the United Kingdom. We ordered the bruschetta, the spicy prawn, the meat platter, and the best truffle gnocchi I have had in my entire life. I will come back here even though it is almost a 2 hour train ride from London. Should be a Michelin Star restaurant. Unbelievable 10/10 Italian experience.

Absolutely delicious food and great service. We will definitely be returning, thank you!

If you love truffles this is the place to be... Lovely restaurant with authentic Italian dishes... The truffle dishes are a must try worth lots of truffles grated over to get the full appreciation of its flavours, as well as the cotoletta alla milanese - a veal breaded cutlet, fried in butter (due to its shape, it is often called oreggia d'elefant in Milanese or orecchia d'elefante in Italian, meaning elephant's ear!)... With the lovely staff as well, this is well worth a visit!!!...

Don't let the outside fool you. This place has seriously good food and seriously great service. The ravioli were so fresh - melt in the mouth. A few things on the menu were a bit on the steep side (etc. soup) but can't fault them for quality. Would definitely go again.

Fantastic italian restaurant, best in Tunbridge Wells. Lovely friendly service, fresh pasta and just the best tiramisu you've ever tasted.

Lovely atmosphere, great service and amazing food. Nothing beats a tasty steak with fresh truffles! Tiramisu is must try. We will definitely be back soon!

We have twice travelled far just to go to this lovely little restaurant. Authentic Italian food - truffles, which are hard to come by - and friendly owners. A very small restaurant but it is charming and unique, and the food and wine are great. A refreshing change from the many big chain restaurants out there!

Easily one of the best restaurants in Tunbridge Wells. A very small place but plenty of atmosphere, friendly hosts and incredible food! This is a must-go for all lovers of proper, authentic Italian food

Authentic Trattoria, serving really good basic Italian dishes, in a small but welcoming space. Emphasis on food not decor. Hosts and owners very friendly and like a chat. Little piece of Italy in the middle of Tunbridge Wells

Outstanding food, brilliant atmosphere, fantastic service, friendly and welcoming staff and not bad prices. The size of the restaurant itself isn’t ideal however that adds to its charm as a quaint little hidden gem in Tunbridge Wells. Would highly recommend this little slice of Italy to anyone and will be returning again.

Had never been here before, but went with a group of girlfriends and will definitely be returning! Yes it’s small and cosy, but that was great - you will need to book to guarantee a table - so do it! Food was fantastic and very reasonable price! Great choice of menu and served piping hot without a long wait - perfect! Great evening!

Great for a date night. A vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoyed the aura of the place before I even tasted anything. The hosts are eccentric and you can’t help but match their energy. As authentic as it gets, the entrance is a portal to Italy rather than a mere doorway. The food was delicious. A great variety of pasta dishes, and the hosts are lenient in the way of changes - which is encouraging, you can tell they want the best meal for your pallete. I’d encourage the specials, seafood delight. I’m sure the regular menu is also good, as the entire home cooked feel must shine through the classics. We shall be returning! Ensure you book as there’s only space for about 22 in the whole establishment.

I went to La Follia for lunch with my family and we had a fantastic meal. The food was gorgeous, two of us are coeliac and they had lots of choice. The service was the perfect balance of efficiency, friendliness and warmth, just how you imagine it would be in Italy. We enjoyed the experience a lot and I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

Surprisingly excellent food. They won a 2019 UK award for the best Italian restaurant with fewer than 50 tables. We really enjoy their takeaways and can't wait for them to reopen after lock down. They were recommended to us by a friend who enjoys good food.

Fantastic food and atmosphere every time we go!! Max and Molly are always enthusiastic about the food and always have a story to tell! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. One another note they also arrange holidays and tours in Italy if you are looking for something a bit different. They sound great and hopefully we will go away with them soon.

Less restaurant, more sitting in your favourite family member's front room while they bring you plate after plate of wonderful Italian food. We were in and out in 45 minutes (which I think was my fault, we should have had desert for my Mum's birthday but I got my wires crossed - sorry) but the bread and balsamic and lasagne were absolutely stunning.

Weekend trip in Tonbridge with a few friends and on their recommendation, decided to check out La Follia. Luckily managed to get a reservation. The lady in charge was a gem and just the best at managing the tables and taking orders. The food was out of this world, as authentic as possible, short of travelling to Italy… A reservation is a must - would absolutely recommend and will be heading back when next in Tunbridge Wells.

I was in town for a few hours and walked into this tiny little place for a sit down/lunch and this lunch turned out to officially make my day on my very first visit to Tunbridge Wells. It was rainy outside so I had soup of the day. The portion was huge. It was served in a clay bowl and I love that bowl equally as much as I enjoyed the soup. Just a few spoons I got warmed up a lot. Mains were delicious too. As a foodie, I was very touched by the simple meals prepared with care and love. Highly recommend.

The best Italian food outside of Italy! Absolutely amazing food and the service was incredible, a fantastic couple who's only intention is to serve great food. Would recommend to anyone and everyone, I can't wait to return to the area to visit again! Thankyou

Went for the first time last Friday (19th July 2019). Loved it! Small but really friendly atmosphere. Family feel to eating here and the food was lovely. Best Ragu I've ever tasted (I had the Penne Bolognaise). My wife had the chicken with peppers and that was lovely too. Had a bowl of chips that were amazing as they actually had taste! Owners are really attentive and the food cooked fresh to order, but quickly. Even the sweeties at the end of the meal were nice. Perfect and will be back.

Greeted with a warm welcome to this small but beautifully formed Italian trattoria. You are advised to book to enjoy this hidden gem in the upper part of Tunbridge Wells. The bruschetta demands special mention in my opinion absolutely marvelous was my verdict. The following courses were equally delicious and all served with a smile and friendly conversation. Highly recommended.

Fabulous as always. Great little quirky authentic Italian. No pizzas here, you can get that fake Italian food anywhere. Proper Italian food beautifully prepared by Toni and served with heart warming generosity by Sara. Go 'off menu' when you can and take Sara's recommendations or choose from the menu. This is not like Italian restaurant chains, it is the place you would stumble accross on holiday in Italy and bore your friends to death about it when you came home. Skip the boring stories, go here, try it, enjoy and go up in the estimation of your friends when you recommend it to them and they try it. Love it

If you look from the outside you might want to walk on, it has almost a café feel to it. The food however is absolutely divine and the service top notch. The staff were just lovely, the portions generous and really, really wonderful Italian food. We had a wonderful evening and will return.

Quite possibly the best Italian food I have ever tasted, and certainly the best Tiramasu. No airs and graces, no overly-complicated fancy menus, not ostentatious in any way - just good, friendly service and wonderful Italian food.

With respect, the other reviews here refer to a previous management. The current owners have renamed the restaurant 'La Follia' and it is a revelation. Having lived in Italy for three years, this experience is the closest we have come to compare with that of discovering a wonderful place down a side street, full of locals but perhaps only a few tourists. The food here is simple, and could be called 'cucina povera' and it is delicious, served with real love. Don't miss it...!

What a find! The restaurant is small and intimate - we stopped there on the off chance they'd have space and they managed to squeeze us, and it was absolutely worth it! Staff were so lovely and the food was fresh, prepared swiftly and delicious!

A super Valentine evening, excellent food, nice atmosphere, good wine list and first class service with a real sense of being in Italy. Will be going back again very soon.

I'd rate the food a solid 4.5 stars bec the food is mouthwatering and the price is very reasonable. The place is a bit tiny and the ambiance is a bit incohesive which I'll put in at 3 stars. The staff/owner are lovely people and I rate them a solid 5. Overall, a very good place to eat authentic Italian dishes.

N
Neil Baker

Small but beautifully formed. A wonderful find in the centre of town. A happy warm greeting set the tone for the experience. Questions about the menu were answered easily and with enthusiasm. The food was delicious and well presented. A special mention must be made of the buschetta, absolutely outstanding and delicious the taste so "Italian". Followed by chicken cacciatore the flavors of which confirmed that the food here was so well prepared no matter the dish. Highly recommended.

J
Janeen Talbot

Lovely Italian hosts. Went expecting authentic Italian food but unfortunately the pasta was not fresh, it came from a packet. I feel the wine was a bit pricier than most. For 2 people almost £60. Again nice people but I don't feel it was value for money.

S
Sandra Grace

While the welcome was really friendly, the decor was like a very odd café (craft work spiders hanging from the ceiling, along with odd dolls). My friend and I walked past it twice as we hadn't clocked that it was a restaurant! I had chicken and mushroom sauce which was delicious but it was served with a very basic salad that had a lot of vinaigrette dressing, which completely clashed with the meat taste. My friend had cannelloni which had same salad....no carbs at all. Portion sizes were ok for me but others would find them very small.Prawn starter was 5 prawns in a sauce and no bread. Automatic 12.5% service charge is unreasonable considering there were no staff, other than the owners, no bread/olives or any of your normal 'extras', and the walk to and from the kitchen was about 5 steps! Expensive meal for very little.

Eleanor Earle

I'm sorry to say, but I don't understand why this restaurant has such excellent reviews. The service was brilliant, we really can't fault it. Our server was a wonderful woman and we loved the small, cosy atmosphere. The pasta is not freshly made, it's clearly out of a packet. I ordered the Bolognese and it tasted very sugary, no depth to it at all. It tasted like a ready meal. My partner ordered the Carbonara. The sauce was curdled, again packet spaghetti and it wasn't one of the better carbonaras he's had. Parmesan on the table clearly pre-grated from a packet. The tiramisu was nice and boozy, but the sponge was so soaked it was basically liquid and the cream had turned to liquid too. Nice flavours but texture wasn't great. I've read through the reviews on here many times and I'm staggered. I'm wondering if we visited on a bad night? This place has a lot of potential - if the ingredients were fresher it could be great. You are made to feel like you're at home, but sadly the quality of the food lets it down.

J
Jack Hay

Some obviously good reviews for this little Italian but we were very disappointed. The environment was small and noisy (hardly intimate). The sauce on my carbonara was curdled and the spaghetti very tightly packed (cooked far too hot and not unravelled). I note that some earlier reviews said similar (about the curdled sauce) but were told it is the Italian way. I've never experienced this before (here or in Italy)! The red house wine was rough. But my main complaint is that the very expensive prices reflected a top end restaurant which this is certainly not. Shame.
