Tip: The food is a little pricey but it's definitely worth it.
I’ve been to J Zhou a few times for their banquet-style meals, and I always enjoyed the food. This time, I visited with my fiancé and tried dishes from their regular menu. We came here on a Sunday night for dinner and there was no wait. We tried the stir-fried beef rice noodles ($19.88), stir-fried choy sum with pork ($22.58), half-roasted Peking duck ($28.98), and lobster with ginger/scallion sauce (28.88/lb - we got a 2.98 lb lobster). Overall was impressed with the food here and enjoyed everything! The beef rice noodles were absolutely delicious - had a great stir-fry flavor and wasn’t overly salty. The beef was tender and soft. The choy sum was cooked and flavored nicely. The Peking duck was probably the best I’ve had in Orange County so far. The duck pieces were large, and the skin was crispy. It came with soft, fluffy buns and the standard scallions/duck sauce. The lobster was also really tasty. The pieces were tender, and the ginger, scallion flavor was strong. Ambiance was nice with fancy-looking chandeliers. The service was fast, and the waiters were nice and cleared our plates throughout the meal and gave us new plates. Prices were on the higher end because of the upscale nature of this Chinese restaurant and since it’s in Orange County, but the food quality was definitely outstanding!
If you want high quality AND authentic dim sum, J Zhou is the place for you. The service is responsive and efficient. In addition to menu items, they would roll out extra menu items on carts throughout the restaurant. They have the ordering sheet but also have a menu with pictures to help people choose. I like the decoration and appreciate that they use linen for the table and provide an extra pair of chopstick for service. This is my out go-to Dim Sum place when I am in OC area.
“Fancy chandeliers, white tablecloths, and a dim sum menu that goes on forever. 🥟✨ Steamed rice rolls with BBQ pork stole the show, but honestly, this place makes oriental dining feel both fun and elegant.”
Absolutely. The best food best service. Great atmosphere quality products. It's delicious.
We went in for last minute dinner and it turned out wonderful. The servers were a bit preoccupied due to a large gathering in the banquet hall but they still did their best to tend to us. The food, especially the fried rice, was very good.
This dim sum restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its combination of excellent service, friendly staff, and delicious food. From the moment you enter, you're greeted with warm smiles and attentive service from the staff, who go out of their way to ensure a memorable meal. Their friendly demeanor and humorous interactions add a touch of charm to the dining experience. As for the food, when it arrives at the table in its presentation, it is nothing short of exceptional. Each dish is meticulously prepared and bursting with flavor, showcasing the skill of the chefs. However, there are occasional lapses in the presentation of the food, which can detract from the overall experience. Despite this minor flaw, the restaurant's overall ambiance and delectable cuisine make it a must-visit for dim sum enthusiasts.
Best Cantonese food and dim sum in this area. Roast duck is my favorite, plenty of options which you don’t normally get in US. My main complaint is their table, it’s not very comfortable to sit. Service is not consistent, sometimes you get really good service, but there are times where waiters seems to be in a bad mood
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Food is decent. The menu is diverse. Many shrimp dishes. Congee is sweet and good. I will come for other dishes
Let me start off by saying that I think the bad reviews are for the price, not for the actual quality of food. We always come here because it's easy to get in without a huge line. The dim sum quality is as good as you can get in the area, in my opinion. I can't eat a ton of dimsum anyway because it's so filling so price is not an issue to me. The restaurant is nice and clean and well designed. The service can be a bit spotty.
For a decade, this restaurant has never let me down. The service is impeccable, the food consistently fresh and delicious. Yes, it’s pricey, but the quality justifies every dollar. Hands down, the best dim sum in OC.

The experience has been great. The food at this restaurant is delicious. I think the staff are great but were more concerned if we can pay for the food than the service. They brought the check right as the food was being served. The food though 😋 was great.
The food here is a little pricey but it's definitely worth it. The interior design looks amazing and the waiters are professional. It's a great place to have anything from a casual conversation to a business meeting.
The folks here really know their stuff. Super attentive and kind—like, they actually listen to what you and your pet need. The environment feels warm, not overwhelming, which matters a lot if your pet gets anxious easily. Service felt smooth, no rushing or pressure, and they seemed genuinely happy to help. It's nice when you can tell people care, you know?
Elegant setting and smooth service, works perfectly for banquets or family gatherings. Food felt spot-on—classic Cantonese flavors, and the dim sum tasted fresh. Michelin-recommended, yet surprisingly affordable.
Great Cantonese food with such fair prices for the quality—it’s kind of rare. The dim sum felt so fresh, and everything came out perfectly timed. Service? Smooth and attentive but never too much. Feels like they really know what they’re doing here.
The dim sum here is fresh and flavorful, you can tell it’s handmade daily. Service was attentive, plates cleared quickly without feeling rushed. Atmosphere feels bright and upscale, great for gatherings. For a Michelin-recommended spot, pricing is surprisingly reasonable—felt like great value for the quality.
The service here is genuinely impressive—attentive without feeling overbearing, and everything ran smoothly. The dim sum tasted fresh and delicate, felt like it’s crafted with care. And for being Michelin-recommended, the pricing’s surprisingly reasonable. Good spot for a solid meal with family or colleagues.
J Zhou Oriental Cuisine delivers on authentic Cantonese flavors with a focus on quality and detail—it shows. The dim sum? Delicate and fresh, you can tell it’s handmade daily. Service is attentive without being overbearing, and the staff is genuinely warm. For the value, honestly, it feels like such a steal given the Michelin recognition. Perfect for a family meal or something a bit formal.
Great quality dim sum, super fresh and felt handmade. The servers were quick, handled everything smoothly, even during busy hours. For the level of food and service, the prices felt like a steal—really good value.
The servers and the manager came to our table a couple of times making sure the food was okay. They helped us cut the roasted chicken and tailored their service to our needs making us feel very special. Their services were excellent and professional. The restaurant is very elegant, too. Therefore, we highly recommend this restaurant to you.
J Zhou has been a staple in Tustin for many years, and it’s easy to understand why. It’s a trusted Chinese restaurant for the community. We came for lunch dim sum and ordered a bunch of dishes. The baked BBQ pork buns were amazing, with soft buns and delicious BBQ pork inside. I also enjoyed their fried spring egg rolls; they were crispy with tasty shrimp filling. Everything came out fresh and flavorful. Service was good and the environment is very pleasant. Parking is easy since it’s located in a large shopping mall. A reliable spot for dim sum in Tustin.
My first time here. It's the first Chinese restaurant that I did not see live sea fish tanks. The food was good and the service is exceptional. Great to bring your client here for dinner.
Love their dim sum. My daughter works nearby, we always order to go. Be mindful of the wait time and sometimes they will decline to go order when they are in peak hours.

If you’re looking for good Dim Sum in Orange County, this is a great choice. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Chinese dishes and has plenty of seating. It’s a large restaurant with many attentive waiters, and there’s no need to wait in line, even at noon
My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch today.. It’s a Beautiful establishment! One feels like they are royalty upon entering. The staff is dressed professionally and everywhere you look is very beautiful. We ordered the geoduck and lobster noodles as our main, and filled in the cracks with some truffle dumplings, tripe, and a few odd and ends. The truffle dumplings were okay. The rich aroma and flavor of the truffle really stood out but, the dumplings overall lacked taste, and I had to rely on the vinegar and chili sauce mixture to carry the burden of the flavor. The tripe was also some of the best I have eaten. Not that I am very experienced with eating tripe. I have tried it on menudo, pho, and at a dim-sum in San Diego . Of those varieties, J Zhou has the best taste and texture. I have no comparisons for geoduck. It was my first experience and I am absolutely thrilled with it. The dish was served in two components, one was cold sashimi style and it was crispy and sweet. And absolutely delicious! The lobster noodles.. were just okay.. And that’s saying a lot coming from a white guy eating this style dish. The noodles were soft and slimy because the over use of corn starch and had little to no taste. The lobster was good but, once again, I was left feeling disappointed with the dish overall. I am coming from a place where I have had this dish a few times. Once at A taste of Hong Kong in San Diego, the second time I had it was at a family gathering and the chef made the dish for roughly 15 people, and the last time was at The Noble Chef in San Diego. Out of all of these places, J Zhou came in last place in flavor, texture, and appearance. So, having spent almost $400 for lunch here. I left full but also deeply unsatisfied with my meal. I felt like a fool who had just been taken advantage of. But, I am an adult and accept responsibility for my actions. Maybe that’s the lesson here. Don’t go a dumpling house looking for seafood. Just like one does not go to a sushi restaurant for steak. And lastly to add insult to injury, I stopped to use the restroom on the way out and after waiting for the stall to open, a staff member exited the stall and left me a clogged toilet. Which I promptly proceeded to unclog. This was the last straw for me and sealed the fate of J Zhou for me. The apathy of the cook, the staff, and the feeling of disappointment ensured that I won’t be coming back anytime soon.
The restaurant was nice and clean. Ambience good. Dim sum was excellent and authentic. The manager was friendly and welcoming. But the staff and service were disappointing. The staff who took our order dropped the menu onto our tea cups and spilled tea all over the table. Half of the table cloth was wet. He gave us paper napkins to dry it up. It didn’t work and it shouldn’t be our job. We finally asked the manager to move us to another table. We had to wait a long time to get water and forks for the younger children. A long time meaning that we were almost halfway through the meal. When we asked the servers to cut the BBQ buns in half for the children to share, they were reluctant and seemed too busy to make the effort. The waiter didn’t even return to offer us to go boxes for leftovers. My husband was not happy that I still gave them a large tip. But then, it’s the holidays. We came in a party of 10 on a Sunday for dim sum lunch and were surprised to find the restaurant not busy. There’s no wait. The restaurant was not full, unlike most Chinese dim sum restaurants on a Sunday. This restaurant is Michelin rated. But there is nothing Michelin about the service.
I came here today on. Sunday afternoon around 11:30am and the wait was about 20 min which isn't bad considering it's a holiday weekend. The only thing pleasant about the service here was the host and she was the only person that I felt care about giving any type of customer service here. Once we were sat, we waited about 15 min before the host actually came back and we had to ask her if we even had a server. She took our order and then finally the server came by. We received our food fairly quick but had to ask twice for water and sauces. We ordered congee but weren't even given spoons. Now I understand if this was some run down dim sum place with super cheap prices but you are paying a premium for almost no service in an area that caters to better quality. The small dishes are around $5.50 and the medium plates are $8.50 and large plates are about $10.50. So 4 pieces of shumai and 3 pieces of dumplings for $8.50. Fine but give me better options for sauces besides plain soy sauce and basic rooster sauce in a plastic container. The restaurant ambience itself was actually very nice and food was actually really good. If we got just a little better service or if the pricing was so overpriced, I would not have been so dissatisfied. The worst part was that they charged us $5.00 for tea that we never ordered so I pointed that out to the server. Without even saying a word he yanks the check away and drops a new one on the table without saying anything. I mean, do people know that you get better tips by just being nice???Ive worked in the restaurant business as a host, busier, server and bartender and have never been so rude to people. Anyways, I will have to find other dim sum places or drive further for something better.
In general the food was decent but the service was horrible. First was that my seat was not only wet there was still noodles on it. I told them the seat was wet so instead of giving me a new seat they handed me 2 napkins. But when I showed them that it’s not going to dry the seat they rolled their eyes and found another seat. After 5 dishes arrived we were still waiting for soy sauce and chili we asked the server but she kind of ignored us like it wasn’t her job or she didn’t speak English. I had to go to the entrance to ask them for sauces and then they came out with this dis with sauces in plastic cups not what I’d expect from a restaurant. It seemed akin to a food stall maybe. Of course when we asked for them to just make the last 2 items to go instead of packing it up they brought out the freshly made food and to go boxes and said here do it yourself. Mind you we just started eating since it took them 30 minutes to bring us sauce but the waiter came and brought us the check and said please pay now before the last 4 dishes were even served. I didn’t want to give them a tip but the waiter kept saying you have to give tip. My Chinese wife was astonished about tried to explain to me that this is just how Hong Kong people are it’s just their nature and culture, for them customers are just numbers and they don’t believe in good service. She concluded by saying welp never coming here again.
We are from Bay area and have been to lots lots of Chinese restaurants. We are Chinese and usually don't care much about the service. Good food is our top priority. BUT it's service is so so bad, if there's a rank for service, this one will definitely ranks as #1 bad service. Will never come back. BTW the food is not good , we give it two stars for food to be fair. Overall experience definitely 1 star. We usually don't post reviews unless it's extremely good or bad. It is bad, period.
