Best Orange Chicken I have ever tried comes from China West Express. I have tried other items here and did not enjoy them as much as the Orange Chicken. The Orange Chicken is delicious! It is juicy and tender chicken. I could eat it everyday! The steamed rice or fried rice is a nice pairing with the O.C. dish. I recommend everyone try the Orange Chicken!

Great Chinese takeout and delivery place. Food is always hot and fresh! Be sure to order from their website and not from services - you get a big discount. Not meant for eating in - there are a few tables, but they seem like they're only there so the delivery drivers have somewhere to sit and wait.

Ordered via Door Dash. Arrived well packaged, hot and accurate. They didn’t skimp on quality ingredients! Chicken fried rice had large pieces of high grade chicken. The house special pepper beef steak had awesome tender filet mignon and lots of fresh peppers and onions. Egg rolls didn’t disappoint either.

Great place for take out. Best chinese in town. They make fresh food, so you can ask whatever variation you want, like "no spicy, no veggies, no onions". Highly recommended!!!

I’m from the East Coast and China West is as close as I can come to really good Chinese food here in California. I’ve been many different places in the 30yrs I’ve been in Irvine.and hands down they have the best BBQ Pork Fried Rice! Solid food, every dish.

J

Small little spot but very nice experience. Came in today to go ahead and get some grub with friends since we couldn't decide what to get. Food is made fresh and has very nice taste to feel. Portions are very huge so you can have some now and later. Definitely will come back.

There’s something beautifully unpretentious about a good strip-mall Chinese joint. The kind of place where the menu photos have been sun-faded by the California sun, where the aroma hits you before the automatic doors do — garlic, soy, a whisper of oil, and something sizzling behind the counter. China West Express is one of those places. The kind of spot you don’t find because you’re looking for it — you find it because you’re hungry and a little tired of the world’s pretensions. The Hot and Sour Soup is the soul of the place — dark, fragrant, and unapologetically rich. It’s got that perfect alchemy of vinegar bite and peppery heat that clears your sinuses and makes you feel alive again. Each spoonful tastes like someone in the kitchen actually cares — a rare thing these days. The tofu is tender, the mushrooms deep and earthy, and it all comes together like jazz — structured chaos that somehow just works. Then there’s the Orange Chicken, that American-Chinese masterpiece of sweet, sticky rebellion. Too often it’s a sugar bomb masquerading as food — but here? The balance is there. Crisp on the outside, juicy within, the sauce walks that fine line between citrus brightness and caramelized depth. It’s comfort food done right — the kind of dish that makes you remember why “fusion” became a thing in the first place. The Chicken Chow Mein is a humble triumph — noodles slicked with soy and sesame, wok-charred just enough to whisper “we’ve been doing this a long time.” It’s got that perfect chew, the vegetables still with a hint of snap, and the chicken mingling through it all like it belongs there — which it does. And the Shrimp Chow Mein? That’s the quiet showstopper. The shrimp are plump, perfectly cooked, kissed by the wok but never drowned in oil. There’s a briny sweetness to them that cuts through the richness of the noodles. You take a bite, pause, and nod to yourself — yeah, they know what they’re doing. China West Express isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. It’s not chasing Michelin stars or Instagram fame. It’s just good, honest food cooked by people who seem to understand something deeper — that great food isn’t about perfection; it’s about heart, flavor, and a little bit of fire. If you’re lucky enough to have a place like this near you, don’t overlook it. Pull up a chair, order the soup, the orange chicken, maybe both chow meins if you’re smart. Sit down, breathe, and eat. Because for a few moments, with a bowl of hot and sour in front of you, the world makes perfect sense.

Some of the best Chinese food in Orange County! There were wonton soup is the best in Orange County PERIOD! And we’ve tried many this one hands-down takes the cake for the best for wonton soup! You can thank us later! 😉

Food was hot when delivered, well packed so it did not leak out of containers. Good quality. House fried rice did not seem to have as much additions to it this time (Shrimp, beef, chicken).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Came in for the first time and honestly, I’m glad I did. The food was delicious — authentic flavors and everything tasted fresh. It’s a small spot with just a few tables, but cozy enough to sit and enjoy your meal. What really stood out was the service — the girl who helped me had such a great smile and super friendly energy. You can tell she loves what she does and it makes the whole place feel welcoming. Definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for real Chinese food and good vibes. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Food was served hot with great taste. I wanted a Wor Won Tong Soup but it seemed to plain with not that many vegetables. Overall not a bad experience and pricing is reasonable.

Delivery order from their website; ordered the family meal. Food arrived quicker than promised, driver was pleasant and food was hot. They accommodated our request for extra spicy and the entrees had tender protein and lots of fresh vegetables, but the sauce was very oily (garlic chicken and Kung pan beef) The egg rolls were still very crisp, but also very greasy. They did include a nice packet of napkins, forks and various sauces.

I eat here a few times a month. If I'm in the area and hungry, it does the trick. Food is good. Service was so-so. Atmosphere is what you'd expect from a quick table turnaround well priced restaurant

The orange chicken was absolutely flavorless and the chow mein was mid. I felt like I overpaid, just for those two items which was (medium size) about $17, and the lack of quality and flavor is just no where near the price.

Maybe try some other place. The food is ok. The restaurant is Mickey moused together. The staff looked like they were checked out. Just not worth the price. Not great, not good- just ok.

When I got there, I went ahead and ordered the chicken chow mein and my friend ordered a side of chow mein and orange chicken. The cashier was really sweet I must say but the food and the wait time was not sweet. Almost waited 30 to 40 minutes for our food and to top it off, they was online orders which were pushing the employees behind. Once I got my food to try it out, it was okay for the first 3 bites but after it’s gets very salty. I also got some fried cream cheese wontons which were okay to. My overall experience was not the best but everybody is entitled to their opinions

Please please please wear your masks properly when handling plastic food utensils! Spicy items were not spicy and extra extra spicy item had no pepper at all. This is the 2nd time our orders have been incorrect. Will have to keep looking for our go-to Chinese restaurant in Tustin.

I ordered take out for 3 people and got charge $55. That's ridiculous the egg rolls were flat and the Fortune cookie was so still that it unfolded itself. I got the pictures to prove it now if that's like that what else is like that?

B

Maybe she is the “manager” but short Hispanic woman is incredibly mean and has poor service. Food is average at best

S

Gosh where do I begin. I ordered food off of Chow Now because I received a flyer in the mail and though, why not try something Local. Ordering food was fine I ordered a family meal with orange chicken, orange beef, plain fried rice and wontons and then , a side order of egg flower soup and chicken chow mein. I get a call from the delivery guy that I NEED to come downstairs and get my food, no big deal, people get lost in this apartment complex all the time, so I go downstairs with my 8yr old to pick up the food from the driver. Upon meeting with the driver, he starts telling me that why did I leave him such a small tip, becoming argumentative and super hostile, he scared my son so we went back inside. On TOP of that, I got inside and the rice is missing. I send a complaint through the ChowNow and they call me to ask what happened. I repeat everything and they get me on a three way call with the manager of the restaurant, Ricky. Ricky was not rude, but didn’t really seem to want to lose any money. Our conversation consisted of a lot of awkward silence and “oh I’m sorry, really? Are you sure they forgot the rice? The driver was probably upset because it’s been a busy day. If you want I can re deliver the rice (which would have arrived well after dinner) or I can refund you the cost of a fried rice. “ I opted for the refund because obviously, why should I pay for something I didn’t receive. Furthermore, we get off the phone, my family sits down to eat and all the food is super super oily/greasy, like they were in a rush to get it out and sent it out straight from the oil to the plastic containers they came in. No one ate their food, so again, not only did I waste my time waiting for the food, I got a hostile delivery person and my food order wasn’t complete on top of the food not being good. It’s disappointing, and literally money thrown away because we had to throw all the food away. I won’t ever order from here again or recommend this place to anyone.

R
Rita Gutierrez

Service was ok. Food was not so good like it used to be be yes flavorless and to top it off they don’t make the red pepper flakes sauce that’s what the lady who took my order and brought the food. The sauce she brought was an oil chili sauce.

This place was the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!! I Ordered catering trays for a large party. Specifically, the Mongolian beef had way more onions than beef. When addressing the situation with pictures, the restaurant disregarded my concerns and told me that’s just the way it is. It was disappointing to spend over $600 to get mediocre food at best. I highly advise to find other options unfortunately, usually I never leave reviews but this needed to be posted.

Worst service. Thu P’s English is horrible and she shouldn’t be answering phones. We ordered one side of chow mein and she placed the order for five. Cliamed she confirmed the order but her English is so bad what i heard as 17 was really 78. What should have been an 17 dollar order cost 66 dollars (after a discount) because they dont have anyone there with a basic understanding of the English language. She should not be on the phones at all. Because of the inadequacy to hire people who can communicate effectively i was charged 40 more dollars than what the order should have been. Nothing against foreigners but if you’re going to work in America speak the language clearly and effectively. Who orders one of everything but five of something else. She wouldn’t budge on the price outside some lbs discount. My fault for supporting local foreign business with staffing inadequacies.

Do not go here, false advertising. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and I would challenge you to find the chicken in the pictures shared. The online photos look like regular large pieces of chicken, what you get is nothing at all like what they say you'll get. I'm going to be reporting them to California consumer protection because as you can see from other photos from reviewers, this isn't a fluke it's deliberate. If I wanted to eat breading and nothing but, I would have asked for that. Total waste of money and 100% a scam.

D

We used to get food here regularly, but found a place closer to home. The quality is just not the same, it was TERRIBLE. Ordered the Walnut shrimp. $18.99 for ALL batter - you can't even taste the little shrimp! I've included a picture of what they advertise as lightly battered shrimp and reality of 1 piece. The Mongolian beef was oily and the meat was tasteless - the onions were the best part. The BBQ pork fried rice was crunchy and oily. It was definitely not fresh. We won't be going back.

Do not go here. And all of my entirety of life, I have never experienced something so incredibly flavorless. The only thing with flavor in this meal with the black pepper that I had to add myself. Nothing in this meal had any flavor at all. The meat tasted like nothing. Literally the entire meal tasted like I was eating water. Everything tasted like it was cooked by someone who had never tasted anything in their entire life. It's as if they had a machine to mechanically remove all flavor from this meal. The only benefit that you can gain from this meal is the fact that all of the ingredients are in fact real ingredients. That's it. But ingredients mean nothing if you cannot add proper flavor. Without flavor the meal is meaningless, this is something that you would cook at home if you could not afford salt. If you are looking for a pleasurable experience go literally anywhere else except for this place.

I've been going to this place since they opened. It used to be very healthy. Whoever owns it today changed their chow main recipe. Noodless too thick now and reddish. It's too salty. Food was a half hour late and cold. The person delivering could barely speak English. Called the store several times to speak tovthe owner. Hum never there. Noodles in the house chow main are gross. Use to be good food and service. I was offered a lousy discount for something that was not my fault. Will Never order from them again or recommend them.
