Opinions de The Tailor and the Cook Utica
Great food and a great atmosphere. I had the seasonal smash burger and it was excellent. The menu strikes a nice balance between seasonal specials and staple items, and everything was well executed. A well rounded spot that I’ll definitely be back to.
Upscale restaurant. Farm to Table top quality food. Located across from the train station. Less than 1 mile from NYS Exit 31. There is plenty of seating. Private dining is available for groups that need privacy.
We had a Dinner service after our wedding there in The HIEBER ROOM with 32 people and it was Absolutely Perfect!!! The staff are ABSOLUTLY amazing. The food is amazing. And the presentation is on point. It is a mellow and Beautiful atmosphere. We couldnt of been happier with our service.
Beautiful restaurant very fancy but food is horrible .... Year ago it was better everyone says... Steak was stone couldnt cut it and it said ny strip no way that was !!! Also salad dressings made in house only 2 choices really not good.... Salad Chicken 12$ more was horrible... The 29$ board of apperizers shrunk by half and everything on the board other than pealed almonds and mini cukes tasted off ....no flavor very weird old?!?! odd ... NA drinks were sooo bitter not the right flavor more like frozen made nothing fresh and not sweet at all.... Server gave all the wrong info because we asked before ordering...even the desert chocolate meringue the chocolate was bitter and salty?!?! And meringue was marshmallow so not what it needs to be ... Food is horrible for this kind of place .... Re-visit the menu!!! It is so high priced food needs to be one of a kind !!!!!!! $100 per person for steak mashed and one desert one NA drink!!!! Again restaurant absolutelly beautiful every corner of it!!!!! Fix your menu!!!!
Took a trip to Utica to visit my nephew in college. Took him here for dinner. The food was fabulous!! Drinks were delicious! Our server, Alana, gave us great recommendations. The atmosphere was nice with a cozy fireplace. Definitely worth it!
This is a stunning restaurant and it was simply an amazing experience. Pictured are some highlights! We had the sparkling cherry limeade (non-alcoholic), the beets & feta salad (oven baked feta/blueberry puree, candied hazelnuts/pea shoots); the crispy smashed salt potatoes; the pan seared steelhead trout, and the crispy pork belly macaroni & cheese with house-made elbow macaroni. Our food was spectacular - hot, tasteful, and attractively presented. Our waiter Sebastian was a gem - and even the general manager was on site and attentive. Don’t miss the experience for the world!
Nicest restaurant in town with an upscale rustic vibe. Easy parking when we arrived. Had the friendliest waitress who was genuinely kind and great at connecting with ppl. Food was good but not super memorable. Flavor was a bit bland especially this salmon. Maybe if they offered salt and pepper after it’s served then may have be tastier.
Amazing Utica has a restaurant this nice! Great vibe, relaxed atmosphere, very friendly and helpful service. The fried onions were super tasty. Smoke brisket mac & cheese came piping hot, packed a lot of flavor with the bbq sauce and crispy onions. Portion was too large to finish. My partner loved the shrimp tempura.
The Tailor and the Cook is located in the historic Bagg Square area in Utica, New York. We went for brunch and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was great. The food and beverage selections were well curated for an exceptional day. Arrive early and take a walk around and enjoy the history of this area.
Tailor and the Cook is by far my favorite restaurant! We love both their delicious entrees and amazing ambiance! Their commitment to excellence and to farm to table are unmatched! An example of Tim and Steve's gracious hospitality is they welcomed one of my recent bridal parities for some portraits and a round of drinks. Their staff was so kind, gracious and welcoming! My team, my couple and their wedding party had a quintessential experience at Tailor and the Cook!!! We could not be more grateful!
Dined in for special occasion. Neighborhood and the square have evolved into a great destination. A warehouse / loft district revitalized. Restaurant itself has great ambiance with exquisite attention to detail (along with one of the nicest cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen). Decor and lighting top notch. Everything we ordered was extremely well done. Portions were appropriately sized. Wine and beverage list well thought out with good mix of local options. Was a great experience and would highly recommend.
We went for dinner to celebrate our son’s 25th birthday. We were seated at the table right in front of the fireplace. We started with a cheese board and then we all ordered different dishes as well as desserts. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We really enjoyed everything. The service was fantastic as well. We can’t wait to come again.
I wish I could add more stars. Me and my girlfriend had Valentine's day dinner here and it was easily one of the best meals that we've ever had. The space is gorgeous, the fact that most of the food/beverages are locally sourced is mind blowing, and the staff are an easy 10/10. Our server Alexa was very knowledgeable and personable and catered us eloquently throughout the night with well timed check-ins and more! Everyone else that helped us were superb and it was some of the most efficient and relaxing staff we've ever seen. We both work in good service and know that it's not easy, yet this staff were like a well oiled machine and made it look flawlessly easy. Our whole dinner was planned out and courses were coming out just when we were ready, which is no doubt the cause of great communication between the kitchen and the servers. We wish we could thank the chefs personally as much as we praised the front of house staff. This place is amazing and our only regret is not tipping more! We will definitely be back and tell everyone about it in the meantime, and thank you for taking such good care of us on a special night!
Went for brunch with my family, and had an overall positive experience! We love Tailor and the Cook dinner, so we thought we’d try out their brunch. Pictured are: Breakfast Skillet, Blueberry Pancakes, Biscuits & Gravy, Pizza Fritte, Bloody Mary, and Seasonal Mimosa. Breakfast Skillet: 9/10! Had both sausage and bacon in it, along with eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers, and cheese. Blueberry Pancakes: 8.5/10. Pancakes were good but a bit too well done. If they included blueberry jam on the side or in between pancakes that would be a hit! Biscuits & Gravy: 6/10. Underwhelming, and not what we were expecting. Gravy had an Italian/pizza sausage taste, as opposed to a typical southern sausage gravy. Biscuit itself was fine. Pizza Fritte: 10/10!! Perfectly done. Piping hot when they arrived at our table; so fresh! Blueberry jam was a fantastic addition. Bloody Mary: 8/10. Unique addition of furikake and sesame seeds, but overall very good! Seasonal Mimosa: 10/10! The blood orange liqueur made this drink! Very very delicious.
This definitely holds up to its recommendation. Many people told me to come here if I wanted farm to table food. And I must say, it was definitely as described. I had the Utica bread with maple butter, Shrimp cocktail and the risotto mushroom. Everything I tasted, was delicious. The server was very elegant and attentive. Great job The Tailor and the Cook
We had been looking forward to dining here for months (genuinely kept talking about it every week), and we finally tried it out over this last weekend. Unfortunately we were left unsatisfied. We had reservations for 8, arrived 10 minutes early, and were told to wait, which we expected as we were a touch early. It reaches about 10 after 8 and we ask about our seating, and were told we had to wait for other folks to finish eating so they could clear our table for us. This was a little weird, as to us it meant we could be waiting for any amount of time really - depending on how long the previous diners wanted their meal to go on. Eventually we were seated, our server was super nice and attentive. We were told we had to order everything we wanted all at once- meaning if you want more plates later, you can't get them. You have to order everything you'll be eating for your meal at once, and that's it. I've never experienced that at a restaurant. 🤷♀️ Food came out very quickly, we had a few appetizers including their butcher board, scallops, and fries. The butcher board was lovely, so were the scallops, the fries, not so much. They were super soggy. Our entrees included pork katsu, meatloaf, filet mignon, duck confit, and trout. My friends enjoyed their trout and duck. The pork katsu was just okay, as was the meatloaf. The filet was ordered medium rare and came out almost blue. My husband is not one to send back a meal, and will eat a steak cooked this way even though he doesn't prefer it, so he kept it. Dessert included cookies and milk + gelato, cheesecake, and flourless chocolate cake. Friends said the cheesecake was good. The cookies and milk were just fine, you can get much better baked goods at other places around Utica. The vanilla gelato was super icy, and the chocolate was not, so I think something was wrong with it. The creme anglaise on our chocolate cake was sour, like vinegar or bad milk, again, not sure if it's supposed to be like that or if something was wrong, but we didn't like it and ate around it. If we had paid average prices for this meal we would've left less disappointed, but the total with tip was $500, and it left us feeling guilty for spending the money on food we didn't really love. After looking forward to this meal for months, it was a let down. I do want to mention that the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous, and all of the staff were great and attentive. The rest just fell really flat for us.
Atmosphere and service were great. I also enjoyed my cocktail. But the main draw, the food, while fine, was not worth the cost. I ordered the fried chicken katsu sandwich. It looked great, but the bread overwhelmed the chicken, which meant that every bite was like 85% bread and 15% chicken. The thickness of the bread made the sandwich too hefty to bite easily. The dish could be improved by replacing the bread with something more complimentary to the chicken.
So I have been dying to try this place, especially since they moved locations. We went for my friend’s birthday so it was a group of eight of us. First, the atmosphere, AMAZING!!! The waitresses were nice, really easy going and friendly. A few of us ordered cesar salads, really good and nice size portion. The waitress had recommended the riggies but we just were bummed on the taste but great presentation. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but we brought our OWN CAKE, we were charged a “cake cutting fee.” Mind you, when we first came in, one of the waitresses said if we cut it ourselves we would not be charged. She never said anything else to us and the waitress who served us never told us anything either. Well, we kept the cake at our table and cut it ourselves, they did not cut one single slice. Well, we were charged. When we asked about it, she said it’s because we brought it on the property. The fee wasn’t just $5, it was $32. For me, it’s principle not the money. When you’re charging a price like that to bring something on your property that should be made clear, it’s really simple. The cappuccino martini was good though and the pistachio one too! First impressions mean a lot and that just rubbed us all the wrong way.
We were genuinely excited to try this place for a special night out, but the experience was disappointing from the start and resulted in cold meals that were then microwaved into mush. The host greeted us with a frustrated, dismissive tone, “Well, that’s not really a real reservation,” simply because we had booked earlier that evening. He was condescending, instantly making us feel unwelcome. We asked to sit outside and he resisted, claiming it might rain (it was a beautiful evening with 0% chance of rain in the forecast). Sadly, the food didn’t redeem the experience. Our meals arrived completely cold. The flavors of the chicken riggies and pork belly over parsnips were very good, but both dishes were cold to the touch. When we quietly shared that the food was cold (something I’ve never done or had to do before), there was no explanation or apology or choice for how to rectify. The plates were grabbed without communication and returned as microwaved, mushy versions of what we ordered. The pork belly came back rubbery. It took over 20 minutes to receive a single beer. And a table nearby was delivered the wrong meal. This was a Sunday quiet night with a mostly empty restaurant. This was the first time I’ve ever left $0 for a tip, and I say that as someone who always tips generously. A special occasion ruined by poor service, cold food, and zero accountability (no acknowledgement or apology or reduction on the bill).
