Opinions de Cafe 126 Ventura
Great discovery! I’ve driven by here for years. Finally went in and was not at all disappointed. It’s cute, just a little quirky with a menu full of good options. Even as something as simple as soup and salad, served me well. The portion-size and the taste both were LARGELY satisfying. I love New England Clam Chowder, and Cafe 126 knows how to make it right. Their staff was laser-focused in welcoming and attending to you. And fast! It’s a little restaurant that could. Indoors or outdoors are equally good. Whether as a quick stop off the 126 freeway, or as a place to grab a bite if you’re local or visiting Ventura, you’ll be sure to enjoy!
Thank You Cafe 126 For An Excellent Eating Experience! Everything Was Delicious! What I Enjoyed. Most Was The Service! A Huge Shout Out To Summer For Being So Friendly And Quick With The Food! Will Definitely Return Soon 👍👍
I live in Jurupa Valley and my family lives in Ventura. When I go to Ventura, my main breakfast destination is Cafe 126. They're the best in town, hands down. My family doesn't even have to ask what I want for breakfast when I come to town because they know better. Their menu as well as the food is the best. So is the friendly staff.
Steak was chewy like rubber, batter good, biscuit was undercooked it was like bitting into a ball of dough, the house potatoes had no flavor some were hard plain taste, hash browns were brown on top undercooked inside, gravy was thick and unbalanced flavor, they also need homemade spicy salsa. We won’t come back. Staff was great
Have been going here a lot recently and absolutely love the vibe, service and of course the food. Everything I have tried so far is amazing and tastes like a real home cooked meal. Prices are very reasonable especially with the portions you get . Definitely my go too for breakfast or lunch!
GREAT LUNCH MENU...which I had somewhat forgotten after having so many great breakfasts here. I ordered the Turkey Dinner which was FANTASTIC...better than any other "Thanksgiving Special" I've ever had. Remarkable was the fact that the meal was delivered within 6-minutes of order, and it was steaming hot and so fresh and tasty that I would have believed that it was made immediately before I ordered. Really really good. And so much food that I took home enough for dinner. Wow. Check the photo...I didn't have room for dessert. The service was immediate and super-friendly. This is my new "Go To Lunch" spot in the Saticoy area. Multiple times per week!
Came here on New Year day and they were open. Super chill vibes and mostly local patrons. Their food was good and portions were huge, in particular the strawberry pancake was fantastic!! But what was really delightful was our waitress, summer. She was super attentive and friendly. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
Our delicious breakfast was served to us outside on the patio. It was prompt and correct. Our server was very personable and attentive. I had the Chili Verde and eggs plate, my eggs were made perfectly over medium and the country potatoes were very tasty and my boyfriend had a sausage and bacon with veggie omelette. Our fruit cups were so good with a good variety. We will most definitely be back. We've had the oatmeal on a few other occasions via pickup and it was a generous portion with all the fixings.
Don't let the size of the restaurant fool you. It may be small but it's big on flavor. We sat in the parking lot and debated going in and were we glad that we did. We enjoyed their home-made corned beef hash and eggs. This may be the best corned beef I've ever eaten. The Mexican scramble and California omelet were delicious as well. A short stack and biscuit and gravy rounded out our breakfast on a beautiful Sunday.
What a little gem! Very old school, my type of place. Home made biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, corned beef hash. Service is great, plenty of table touching. The host Jack, was also table touching constantly. Quick to clean up and it showed throughout this little restaurant. Coffee was amazing, that was probably the most surprising thing to my group and I. Don’t know when was the last time I was surprised by a simple cup of coffee. Portions are absolutely generous so if you feel like sharing? Probably not a bad idea. It is a bit of a drive to get to unless you live in the area. But if you take the scenic back roads through the farmland then you’ll be there before you know it. I believe it’s been a restaurant for 50 plus years and a bar prior to that. A little history from our server. Definitely recommend it.
This place has a great, small town diner, feel. Management and staff are very welcoming. This was my first time there and I already felt like a local. Food tastes great! Pancakes tasted just like grandma made them. Bone in ham steak was thick and full of flavor. I had their biscuit with a side of sausage gravy. I like a little extra salt with my gravy so I mixed some of the ham steak in and it was perfect. We also got the steak and eggs with O'Brian style potatoes. All of it taste great. Perfect place to go if you're looking for home style comfort food.
This little diner is at the 126 and the 118 interchange you would miss it if you weren't looking for it. We came here as the reviews were good and its close to home. they did not disappoint! there were some folks there but it wasn't packed and we got seated right away is the large dining room you can also sit at the counter in the front dining room or outside. We got our menus and went over what we wanted. I got the Steak and eggs with aside of biscuits and gravy. My eggs were cooked perfect, the toast was hot the steak was OK not bad but it had a bit too much gristle for me the biscuits and gravy were top of the chart good. The biscuit was fresh and huge the gravy was on point and full of yummy goodness you would expect from B&G. Elizabeth got the corn beef hash and over easy eggs with homemade hash you cant go wrong! she also got B&G on the side A+ meal Sam got the Beth's breakfast skillet, scrambled eggs, country potatoes, ham bacon, cheddar cheese onions and mushrooms topped with country gravy. she was in hog heaven. also got a B&G on the side another A+ meal We all left full and we will be back there are some cool lunch items that caught my eye here...stay tuned.
The food was nothing special. The biscuits are flippin' huge, but gravy tastes like a bandaid. The brisket for the corned beef and hash had no flavor.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! and big portions. However, food was just not there underseasoned, and some parts slightly burnt. The chicken fried steak was disappointing it looked very good. Gravy was very good, but the steak was tough, and bland eggs were overcooked and bland. I don't think I'll be stopping by again
This is a little chill restaurant that's been here for a long time. The food was good, not great and not bad: average. The servers were nice but not attentive. I don't even know how many times we asked for refills on our drinks, not to mention we waited a good 10 minutes just to get our drinks ordered. However, they did bring our food out fast. The gravy that was on my potatoes was excellent. My potatoes were still a little hard, tasty but hard. My son had his burger go back because it was over cooked. There are no refills on the chocolate milk. Overall, I don't think we will come back for breakfast, maybe try lunch next time. However, it is a must try for yourself spot.
My son and I came here for the 1st time today. We were super excited because all the positive reviews. Host/bus boy was super polite and helpful and seated us right away and got our drink order. We both ordered the county fried steak because the menu said that what they are known for. Both of us were let down, the steak was hard to cut and when biting it was chewy and somewhat hard. The batter and gravy was good. The hash browns weren't even browned and were still white. The eggs were OK. Our server passed us maybe 4 times never checking on us or refilling water. The bus boy came for our plates and I had my card on the table waiting for a long time for the bill, I asked if we get a bill or do we pay up front? I wasn't sure its our 1st time.He said we could pay upfront if we were ready. We went to the front to pay and had to wait for the server to arrive. She apologized for the wait but I felt really out of place. The decor was nice and a lot of history and the train going around was nice. I don't think I would be comfortable coming back
Very nice stuff and didn’t have to wait to get a table. However, the food was very plain and lacked seasoning. The home fries were under cooked and lacked salt and pepper. The hash browns had a strange after taste like they were expired. Fries steak breading was really good but the steak was really bland.
