Absolutely charming Spanish food market and kitchen for tapas, dessert and more. Highly recommend if you’re downtown. Nice little sitting area and market area.
I recently stopped by Tia Pepa in Washington DC and was genuinely impressed by the fresh, authentic flavors and warm atmosphere. As someone who loves Spanish cuisine, I found their Andalusian gazpacho and salmorejo to be spot-on, and the churros con chocolate were a perfect sweet finish. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the space had a cheerful vibe that made it feel welcoming whether you’re grabbing lunch or sitting down for a casual bite. I especially appreciated the quality of the ingredients and the reasonable prices, definitely a spot I’ll return to when I’m craving a taste of Spain in the city.
Fantastic food and really nice and welcoming staff. Can highly recommend the Paella Valenciana!
This place is very close to work and it is absolutely delicious for lunch. I've eaten there multiple times, usually getting the chicken sandwiches and man they are so good. Recently I got the meatballs and potatoes and those were great too. The service is always friendly and the vibe is a nice change from other lunch spots.
Awesome lunch spot! They are so friendly, the atmosphere is cute and really feels like being in Spain, and the sandwiches are made on fresh bread with yummy ingredients. Highly recommended!
Came in with a Groupon and glad I did. I walked out with a Passion Fruit Mousse, three empanadas (2x Chicken 1x Beef), and the Prawns Mango & Goat Cheese salad. The salad was excellent and a refreshing lunch item in and of itself. The empanadas were good as well, the chicken was a little dry, but the beef was great and overall a worthy lunch item. Lastly, the Mousse was not something I expected to get but with a Groupon you usually can try some things outside of your typical order and I was very surprised by how tasty this was. If you like tropical flavors the Passion Fruit Mousse is a must get, and it seems to be popular as I snagged the last one just before noon. Great spot in NW DC for a work lunch! Give it a look.
Don't know Spanish cuisine very well but was really impressed with this place. Ingredients seemed very fresh, food was really nice... friendly service as well. Had a Groupon and called for pick-up... understandibly, they wanted me to pay before they made $50 worth of food (at the risk I wouldn't come pick it up). They trusted me and made the food, which I appreciated, and also stayed open a few minutes after closing because I got stuck in traffic on the way. Will definitely be back. I didn't stay to eat but the decor/interior was very nice as well. Tom Birner, Washington, DC
Omg! I love the food here. Exactly as in Spain … my favorites are the pinxtos (tapas on little bread) and the salmorejo is similar to the one I had in cordoba… although you can pick up food to go, make sure you eat in as they add the little extras that make the whole difference…egg (& ham) to salmorejo, they warm up the pinxtos if needed ..
It's a small, but really nice place to get some Spanish cuisine. I really liked their salmon and cheese mollete or sandwiches, which took me back to a lunchtime in Madrid. The ambience is also quite bright and cheerful. For DC prices, I would probably say that the prices here are reasonable unless you are buying some of their take-home products, but that is probably because they are imported from Spain. The ingredients here are high-quality. Another mollete recommendation I have is their grilled chicken with piquillo peppers. I also really liked their andalusian gazpacho. Overall, I definitely recommend giving Tia Pepa a try if you are ever in the Farragut West area.
Bright and cheerful, this market and cafe offers Spanish food and homemade bread and pastry. Salads and sandwiches are made with quality ingredients from Taberna del Alabardero next door. I enjoyed a Serrano ham and manchego cheese sandwich ($13) with Tiger Nuts Horchata ($5). A good place to find imported products from Spain. Nice and quiet at lunchtime in spite of the construction.
This was what you’d expect for the money. The food was standard and as expected except the patatas bravas and chicken sandwich. They were not up to par, authentic, or high quality. The tortilla espanola, etc… were great. The croquets are the best in dc. The shoshito peppers were very fresh but tasted boiled so that ruined them. They should have been grilled or something. My friend enjoyed his octopus. I wouldn’t order again but that is only because I have places closer that are better and equal in price. But if this was my local shop, I’d be in there for the croquets and tortilla regularly.
Delicously complex and perfectly chilled gazpacho, txistorra ‘mollete’ sandwich, and the best red sangria I ever had, all enjoyed outside under the palm plants and listening to a Spanish guitar played at just the right volume. And all for just around $30. A short but authentic ‘visit’ to Spain for that price is well worth your time. If you are looking for (and appreciate) such an experience, you just found your spot. Many other nearby restaurants offer a range of tapas or a menu from a celebrity chef, but only Tia Pepa will take you and your guests to the beautiful sun soaked beauty called Spain.
Yummy high quality restaurant offerings at a convenient and cheerful take-out or sit-down informal market atmosphere. Today I got the chicken empanadas and tres leches cake for dessert - latter portion was HUGE and all were delicious. Previously tried the rice pudding which is my favorite dessert from them. Service is helpful and friendly. Will be back (often:-).
Had the chistorra mollete and loved it! The store has real Spanish products, but I found them outrageously expensive and didn't buy anything. The DeEspana brand they sell is quite good (I tried it in NY) except for the chorizo, so if you want to splurge it's a good place.
I decided to check this place out for something different for lunch. The location is cozy with inside and outside tables. The outside tables are well shaded with umbrellas which made a difference on a hot, sunny day. The inside seating consists mostly of high, bar type tables with a few larger low tables. It also functions as a Spanish grocery store which gives one something interesting to look at whilst eating. I tried the pork rib sandwich. It comes with chips. It was a good size and was tasty. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it might be, but still filling. I also tried the tres leches cake which was quite good. The sandwich and chips were served on a plate, however the tres leches was in a to go container from the refrigerator case. I didn't mind this, but the cake was good so there was little chance of any being left over to take with me. They seem to do a fair amount of take out business judging by the number of people who picked up food during my time there. The groceries are authentic Spanish, being actually from Spain. Wines, sweets, desserts, olive oil, main dishes, sausages, paella pans, they have a surprisingly large selection for a small store. I'll be back to buy some items to cook at home. They do have happy hours during the week. They have several different types of house made sangria which I couldn't try as I was on lunch from jury duty alas. Give this place a try if you're in the area.
The grilled chicken sandwich is an amazing one. The restaurant has plenty things to buy, like a little store to find original condiments, wines... but I prefer to eat outside of the building because it looks too much like a store.
Great little place to visit if you are around for lunch. Outdoor sitting, welcoming and attentive staff. Ordered the beef empanadas, kitchen sent chicken instead 🤷🏻♂️ Soft dough empanada, I believed microwave, hot pocket like texture and taste. Not a big fan of it, I shall return in 3 months!!
