Good food. I usually do take outs.
We enjoyed the restaurant and will return.
Under new ownership! Judy will b missed. New owner is adding more veggies. My friend really loved the broccoli beef this time and it was piled high! We really enjoyed the chow fun and MaPo tofu. Best tofu dishes in town! Is there MSG? Probably, sometimes i ask for NO MSG. So be careful if you have allergies. My cousin recommended this place for lunches and family dinners. The owner is great when she sees our family she knows we get our usual stuff, so nice of her! TsingTao for those who wonder.
We really like this small restaurant. This family gives nice size meals at a good price. You need to let your food cool down a bit, it's served very hot. Soup is very good and we like the #2 dinner. My friend and I split the meal and it's all we can do to eat it all. You can probably have a group of 6 to 10 people if you get there early. They have seating for around 40 to 50 people.
We went 2X within 1 week and both times we weren't disappointed. Their orange chicken is a lot different from most places, but it tastes more real and is delicious. Also, they recommend the sesame chicken. You can also make the orange chicken spicy. They have good egg drop soup. Their fried rice and chowmein are right on the money in terms of the high ratings this place has! Will definitely go again
One of the best cinese restaurant! Highly recommend.
Best Chinese in Visalia! Great service, scrumptious food, and plenty of leftovers. We ordered a lot for 3 people, however we wanted leftovers to take to the kids. It worked out perfectly Almost any order will be a wonner6.
Hands down my new favorite. From food to service to prices and atmosphere, you provide a wonderful service to those looking for a really great meal. Thank you for your warm, kind, friendly welcome!
A family atmosphere with friendly and welcoming staff. Very delicious food and generous portions. I recommend it.
First time here. Very good food.
Best tasting chow mein I've had. I could tell the shrimp and vegetables were very fresh. The noodles weren't as crispy as I'm used to, but maybe you have to ask for it to be that way. Great service, very attentive.
Food is always great. Lunch specials are a great value and delicious.
Crispy noodles, ginger beef, and a little piece of Valley heaven Let me just say this: Shanghai Chinese in Visalia has crispy pan-fried noodles. Like, actually crispy — fried on both sides. After four long years away from the Valley (trapped in an Oklahoma Chinese food wasteland), I was dreaming of this exact thing. And they delivered. Absolute fire. I paired the noodles with their ginger beef and — boom — perfection. Honestly, that combo is all I need in life. My only personal nitpick? I’d love it even more without the carrots and green onions. Just give me that bold ginger and beef magic and I’m set. But I’m confident Judy (name on the receipt and clearly the MVP) will get me squared away next time when I ask. It was still delicious — a solid 99 out of 100, with one point docked for the veggies I didn’t ask for (haha). We also tried the lemon chicken — great balance, not too tart, and a family favorite across the board. And to put them to the real test? We ordered the pork fried rice. It’s the benchmark dish, and this one? Easily one of the best we’ve had anywhere. Packed with flavor, clearly made with love (and hopefully a generous shake of MSG — yum). Yes, prices are a little higher than I remember from Valley standards, but the portions, flavor, and service — especially from the kind, no-nonsense lady up front — more than made it worth it. Shanghai Chinese is the real deal. We’ll be back. Often.
Popular place that serves hot, delicious plates with a family-oriented climate. So much family-like they made an off the menu item just for me asking. Spicy but not taste masking. Post dinner soup was hot and delicious. I would've paid double for the portion size but don't tell them that. Great place with great environment.
The food is great!! I normally get the dinner combination 2. The egg rolls are perfect. Crispy on the outside. Everything I've tried is delicious. Definitely recommend.
Really good walnut shrimp and their curry noodles too! The veggie egg foo young was also very fresh! Big portions too can easily share and take home.
Great food for the price, everything had good flavor and taste, the cream cheese wontons are fantastic. They made 6 dinners in 15 mins! Overall would come back again.
Another wonderful experience and waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. Food came out fast and hot. This is our third time, and we look forward to many more. Very happy!!
Recently revisited with my parents, they like the food but the service takes away from it. We ordered the sizzling war bar and I recommend you try it. Food is great the service can use some adjustments for the better.
By far the best Chinese food around. Their pot stickers (gyozas to me) are outstanding. I could make a meal of them ! Owner and chef is committed to excellence in food and service. Love this place!
Great food, huge menu, and wonderful service. Not only was this place full but there were lots of to go / call in orders while we were there. Check this place out!

Me and my wife ate here a couple days ago. Their food was excellent. So far the best in Visalia. I had a sesame chicken My Wife had the orange chicken with chow mein. This place is underrated on the reviews. It should be a 4.8 to 5. We highly recommend this place. So give it a try.
I am a first time visitor. The food was terrific. The atmosphere was great. The service was awesome. I will definitely return.
Thanks for the review Nina! Can't wait to try their food while listening to Christian praise music! Can't think of a better combination. God bless you sister and thanks for the recommendation😃
The food was delicious! The service was ok, the girls could've done better. And, the atmosphere could also improve but over all I recommend it.
Fast friendly service. Food is delicious and prices are fair. New owner is out in dinning room and very kind.

The owner is a very nice lady friendly and helpful the food is usually pretty good at times things like the pork in sweet and sour pork with overcooked a drop soup is wonderful always leave with a smile a little bit pricey but what isn't these days?
Got the lunch combo for dinner. They don’t have any good dinner combos for people with shellfish allergies, with them saying no substitutions and having fried shrimp as part of every combo. They charge $3.50 more for getting a lunch combo after 3 pm, without giving more food. Service was pretty fast and friendly. Not overly welcoming though. Their dine in area is rather small as well. Got the sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein, egg drop soup and egg rolls. The sweet and sour chicken and chicken chow mein seemed a bit try/overcooked. The sweet and sour sauce was pretty good. The egg rolls seemed decent too. Pretty good value for the amount of food you get.
Came here for the first time the other day for dinner because we've never been! Walked in and the lady working there in the front desk was on a phone call with a customer and didn't even acknowledge us walking in. The customer on the phone sounded like she was ordering food for a party so it literally took 10 minutes of our time. My daughter and I just sat there waiting for our order. The lady then had another call coming in so we waited ANOTHER 5 minutes without being acknowledged. When she got off the phone, we finally got our order (it was a phone order). We ordered one of their dinner combinations that came with orange chicken, fried wontons, egg roll, fried shrimp, chicken broccoli, chicken chow mein, and pork fried rice. I remember the total being $16+ as of 6/2024. Not bad ! We took the food home and everything was delicious. Orange chicken was juicy, fried wontons were fried to perfection, egg roll was yummy, fried shrimp was fried to perfection, chicken broccoli was yum, chow mein was delicious, and pork fried rice was yum! I'm so happy we found something closer to us than Panda Express if we're in a hurry for Chinese food. Wish the service was a bit more welcoming, though. Come check them out!

Service was excellent and we were well taken care of. Food was good but not the best I've had from Chinese establishments. Chicken overcooked and dry, but I suppose better that than undercooked and sick.
The food is consistently really good and the vibe inside is nice. Top 1 or 2 places in that regard here imo. The owner/manager guy is a super cool dude. The only problem I have, and it's pretty annoying, is that the takeout can take 2-3x as long as they say. If it's busy, then tell me it's gonna be an hour for my food and not 20 minutes. If it's not busy, then the food will be on time. Ask how many ppl are there if you're getting takeout so you don't end up awkwardly standing around in the middle of the restaurant

I ordered the wor wonton soup. At pick up the customer service was minimal no body smiled or greeted me. I paid for my soup asked for chili oil and was given a annoyed look from owner. The soup was OK broth was bland needed soy sauce wich they did give me. Wonton had a good flavor and they did get my order correct asked for no broccoli and extra bok choy. I will give them another try hopefully next time it will be a nice experience
So... First time eating her was NYE and we got our food to go.. Food is good. But there's a real discrepancy between their menu prices and what they charge.. we ordered shrimp fried rice, Beef and broccoli, shrimp chowmein and an order of won tons.. it was about $75 So my advice, watch that because it seems very scammy..
Overall our experience was good. Food service and atmosphere was good. My only issue settling the bill. we had lunch and ordered some food to go.I gave my debit card to pay the bill then after getting home checking my balance seem they charged me an additional $4.00 ??? WTH ?? I mean its only 4 bucks but a charge coming out of no where ?? may mot return after this 😥😥😡😡😡
Dined in Friday at 7:30pm, dining room was busy but starting to wind down around that time. Server was friendly and food came out quickly. Most Chinese food is greasy so I expected that. Rice and chow mein were good, orange chicken was crispy and sauce was really good. Some of the fried foods were dripping with oil. The decor is nice but dusting is needed as there were cobwebs and dust on some surfaces. One unisex 🚻 restroom. A customer was blowing their nose while everyone was eating, I understand that may be unavoidable at times but in my opinion it's more polite to excuse yourself and blow your nose in the restroom (just my opinion) and did not affect my overall experience. I noticed many regular customers coming in for pick up orders and making small talk with staff, they were pleasant and friendly. Worth a try!
On our recent visit, my wife had the orange chicken and I had salt and pepper calamari. Calamari is often a chewey dish, but this was bouncier than most. The first bites were like tire rubber. The calamari softened a bit as it cooled but remained stiff. It needed to cooked more or tenderized more or both. I wish that I had ordered salt and pepper shrimp instead. My wife was neutral on her orange chicken. Overall, the food is a little better than average strip mall Chinese food. My large Tsing Tao beer was $10.50. It seemed a little stiff to me. If you read other reviews of this site, you will find that your overall experience here will depend on the mood of owner (???) at the register. Based on my multiple visits, her mood can range from 1 to a 4. (Never a 5.) She was in a good mode tonight. Beware if she is on the phone when you enter. It's the nearest Chinese food to my home. I will come back, but it is always an adventure.

Ate at Shanghai for the first time last Thursday. My brother and sister in law told me their food is really good, but the service is lacking. I must say, they were absolutely right. A bit pricy, but hey, I didn't mind the food was good. Now, let's a talk about service. The waitress who waited on us lacked in genuine hospitality, borderline rude. Suggestion, if you don't like your job, quit. You'll be much happier and so will the customers!
This place could have the best food in the world, it didn't, but even if it did, I would never return. When I sit down to have a relaxing meal with my spouse and spend my hard earned money at a restaurant, I do not want to hear about Jesus. The world has existed, by most accounts, for several billion years, during which time humans have had different ideas about god(s). You piping in your Jesus music via the overhead speakers is annoying at best--personally, I find it very disrespectful. Not everyone believes as you believe, and certainly it is your right to hold any sort of belief you desire, as it is mine. However, please keep the air space clear of your religion out of respect for your paying customers.

We tried to order here New Year’s Eve called at 1pm to place an order to be ready at 7pm. We arrived at 7pm the line was out the door hadn’t moved. There was only 3 people working one in the front one cooking and one still taking orders. I had to leave after waiting 30 mins… never again. They shouldn’t take more orders if they can’t even keep up with the ones they have
Despite the glowing reviews, I was disappointed. My dinner had an intense thick brown sauce (from a jar I'm sure) and the Moo Shu pancakes were tough and rubbery. Did not take my leftovers to go. My server never checked back with me once and I had to turn in my seat and wave sevral times for the check. The portion was large, but the prices posted on their website were completely outdated and everything was about 30% more. Really cannot recommend.
Not the first time we’ve been discriminated here. Unfortunately we walked in as the first customers sat down and they took our order and 10 minutes later a Caucasian couple walks in and they got their order taken . We are patiently waiting thinking we will get our food first since we were there FIRST but she comes out with their food and appetizers. Very unfortunate that they acted like that towards us because of our skin color. Never again.
They gave me deep-fried pot stickers!? Wow, first I was driving home and smelled something fried, it was off-putting, I was disgusted by the time, I got home opened up the container to see fried orange colored dough, I swear, I'm scarred for life at the very thought of Pot stickers and what they did to ruin a legendary dish.
we always order Chinese on Christmas Eve and have been getting it at Shanghai since they opened. I called at 4 o’clock and ordered for pick up at 5 o’clock. We got there paid for it and ended up waiting for 45 minutes to get our order. I know they were busy, but I had called an hour in advance. When I called the order in, they read it back to me to make sure they got everything. It was correct when we got the order finally instead of reading the order back she counted boxes while I had ordered salt and pepper chicken and instead I got two broccoli beef when I’d only ordered one broccoli beef. I was very unhappy, especially on the weight When you call an hour in advance for a pick up and you end up having to wait 45 minutes that’s that’s not acceptable.
Food is alright room for improvement, Chow Mein too greasy. For Mongolian beef they use round beef here…. considered its price… you use round beef? Mongolian beef are usually flank beef… server bad attitude.
We ordered our food to be delivered and I have never been so disappointed in my life! The food was so over cooked and devoid of flavor that we simply ended up tossing it out. I might as well have thrown my 80 bucks into the trash. My advice to anyone considering this establishment would be "buyer beware".
The young waitress was nice and helpful. The older asian lady was very rude she was yelling at me when she brought my order to me lol. I thought to myself, I’d be happy if someone was contributing to my payroll? She didn’t seem happy at all. Also, she didn’t put any napkins or utensils inside the bag. And the food tasted alright until I started to crunch on what I thought was walnuts but i was wrong my chow mein was under cooked. Spent 25$ on a few items and was treated unfairly to say the least. Find it sad for people to not have any gratitude for wherever they are, and the elderly asian woman seemed angry for no reason, and the restaurant wasn’t even busy. Poor lady if i was the problem she could have just refunded me or, told me take my business elsewhere respectfully. 1st time here I’m going to have to wish you guys luck. And definitely would not recommend going here. A bunch of other good looking restaurants in the plaza

I ordered Hong Kong chow mein through DoorDash and was told it would be ready in about 30 minutes. When I arrived at the restaurant, the staff looked surprised and could not find any order under my name. After some back-and-forth, they finally realized the order had never been entered into the kitchen at all. Instead of apologizing or handling the situation professionally, I was told to wait an additional 10 minutes. When I asked for clarification, the staff spoke in a condescending manner, saying they were very busy and that many people were waiting—clearly implying I should just wait however long it took, regardless of their mistake. I then asked for a refund due to the error and the delay. They refused and pushed me to deal with DoorDash instead, taking no responsibility for their own failure to process the order. This was a complete waste of time, with poor communication, no accountability, and rude customer service. I would not recommend this restaurant, especially if you are ordering for pickup through DoorDash.
