Well that was quite the incredible accidental discovery. On our autumn road trip getaway to San Antonio, we were looking for lunch outside Waco. My wife ran a Google search for "restaurants near me" and in the top of the list was Homestead Cafe. We were on I35 so it wasn't exactly "near" but the drive through the country was worth a few miles. The cafe is the heart of a beautiful craft community. The staff was wonderful. The atmosphere is warm and rustic. My wife enjoyed the wagu burger and my the wagu brisket tacos we among the best I have ever savored. Best of all, a classic car rally had made a stop here. Wow!

We last visited Cafe Homestead in the Fall of 2022 before the original restaurant burned down. When planning another trip to Waco for my daughter's birthday, we read the story about the unfortunate situation, but we were very glad to hear about the rebuilding of the facility. 18 weeks from the time it burned down to coming back online is nothing short of amazing. This trip was not unlike the last, in that the food, service and overall experience were simply fantastic. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, which continues to be the best I've ever had. All four of us were stuffed and quite satisfied after our meal. Next time we plan on spending more time exploring the area shops and activities. Highly Recommend!

Gem of a place. The food was delicious. Their buttermilk biscuits are the best I've ever had...even more than those at Magnolia Table. The staff is so friendly. Their little store in the main entrance area is FUN, but if you schedule your time there right, you can visit and enjoy all the Homestead village shops and atmosphere. Worth the time. I recommend a reservation.

We have visited this restaurant many times over the past several years. We love this place! We loved the original restaurant, put up with the temporary location after a fire, and now it’s absolutely awesome. The environment is great, the service is warm, and friendly, and the food is first class. You need to make a reservation, because everyone wants to eat here. If you want delicious, comfort food, this is the place. The chicken fried chicken is a family favorite, and the quesadilla burger is my favorite. We visit Waco often, and this is our go to place. Most recent visit: We live in the Houston, Tx area, and visit 4-5 times per year. It’s impressive that you have wait staff that remember us, and treat us as if we were part of your community. We have visited for years(old location, temporary location, and current) and love this restaurant and staff. The rolls and buns are more awesome than ever.

Cafe Homestead has amazing guacamole and salsa. Everything is mostly made in house or locally sourced. The atmosphere is family friendly and the community around is perfect to explore. I come down from DFW at least once a year at least just to eat here. The service is fantastic, and today Jessica was our server who kept that stellar service going. I recommend making a reservation and giving yourself time to park and walk around the grounds as it’s always busy.

Always love eating here! Never disappointed. Service is always top notch, professional, and everyone who works there is nice; lots of smiles. But along with the great service is the great food. Always delicious. Took my fiancée out this evening for an early birthday dinner. She had chicken enchiladas made with blue corn tortillas along with refried black beans and rice. I had the chef's special, birria tacos on blue corn tortillas with a roasted corn side. It was all delicious, even the spinach dip appetizer and the blackberry cobbler a la mode and blueberry pie! Will definitely be back!!

My wife and 2 year old daughter went here tonight and it was one of the best food experiences of our lives. We were blown away by the quality of food and the service. This is a must visit food place in Waco and Texas for that matter. We wish we could eat there everyday! We highly recommend getting the spinach dip as an appetizer as well! It will be the best you’ve ever had!

This place was wonderful. The whole building is built by hand craftsman and looked wonderful. It was very comfortable and homey. The staff were all great, especially our waiter Joel who was very kind and courteous. I got the country fried chicken which was incredible! I substituted the mashed potatoes out for smash fries which were also very good. My wife got the chicken fried steak which she said was also excellent. My in laws both got the veggie sandwich and while I would never order a meatless entree, they were very happy. We highly recommend this restaurant!

This place is amazing! The architecture the wait staff the food is all top notch. We just happen to drive by and see the sign, I’m so glad we stopped in, it was the best quality food I’ve ever had. If you ever get the chance to stop in you will not regret it!

We are so glad a local recommended this place because It was totally worth the drive! We had a reservation and arrived early but they were able to seat us within a few minutes. Our server Tia was fantastic - personable, kind and checked in on us often but not too much. The atmosphere was great and the food was phenomenal! My husband really enjoyed the corn fritters, plus ribeye with smash fries and I loved the chicken enchiladas with the wedge salad. We knew the portions would be large so we skipped lunch to save room for dinner and still couldn’t finish everything or get dessert. We also enjoyed browsing the different trade shops while there but didn’t have time to make it to the general market before they closed. We will definitely come back if we visit this area again!

We have eaten here, literally dozens of times. The food has been consistently outstanding on each and every visit. The service is equally excellent. Everyone is so friendly and personable.

Excellent service by Dassi! The star of the show was the fresh homemade biscuit. Also the potatoes were fabulous. Make a reservation as they get busy.

We happened upon this village while on a road trip. Super fun leg stretch break. Cafe is VERY clean, noise was minimal and the food was delicious. Only downside is the kitchen is very very slow. You can’t be on a timeline if you want to grab a bite to eat here.

I finally made my way to Cafe Homestead and it was a true delight. My waiter, Brandon, was very kind and knowledgeable of the menu items to select for me a good choice. I chose the Sriacha burger, fries and the corn fritters with a Lemonade Peach tea. The food was absolutely delicious. The inside of the restaurant is warm and welcoming and not at all noisy. So my dining experience was quite enjoyable, up until a young lady came over and begin spraying some sort of cleaning agent to prepare the tables for the next guest. I've come to notice this trend being practiced at several mainstream restaurants and for me personally, it is annoying to be subjected to smelling chemicals and spray being aerialized around guests who are eating. This is why I lowered my rating from 5 to a 4 star because of this annoying trend. Would I recommend this restaurant, yes. Would I return for the good food, yes. But I hope that management after reading this review will be mindful to their cleaning practices around its paying guest because I do not care to see chemicals being sprayed around while I'm trying to enjoy my meal.

Designed for tourists: Food was a very disappointing: Price was insultingly high with portions you would expect from a child's menu. Food was mediocre. The only choice for sides is mash potatoes, french fries, and tortilla chips. There is little privacy with the tables placed close together and the noise level is unpleasantly high. Staff is very friendly and the building is impressive. My wife got the $26 chicken fried steak with mash potatoes. The potatoes did not taste home made and the steak was not very tender and surprisingly small for the price. My daughter had the $22 chicken pot pie with french fries. She said the pie tasted ok except the fries were too salty and the portion was what you would expect from a kids menu. I had the $22 Sriracha Burger served with hot sauce and tortilla chips. This was like a taco made with a hamburger pattie and filled with cheese sauce and a poblano pepper. This was a very strange combination of flavors and left me wishing I had ordered something else. This place seems to be a business model designed to rake in money from tourists with no emphasis on food quality, value or repeat customers. It also says on the menu if you share your dish with someone at your table there is an additional $2 charge for sharing.
