Went to the Elf on the Shelf pop up bar. Excellent drinks. Excellent service. The bar is beautifully decorated with flying elves and some sitting on the different areas of the bar. Of course there is s picture area where you can pretend to be an elf in a mug. Overall great experience and good vibes!

Came here for a midweek happy hour and the drinks were fantastic. They were flavorful and strong. The place is cozy and perfect for a small gathering or a date. The bartenders were very kind and the service was prompt. They take their time with the drinks because they come out looking amazing. Perfect for those Instagram posts. Also, this may be a weird observation, but the bathrooms were so incredibly clean! To me that says a lot about any establishment. The bar is close to great restaurant options so you should definitely stop by here for a pre or post dinner drink.

I visited a Korean pop-up event and had a fantastic tasting experience. The rose tteokbokki, japchae, and bulgogi bowl were all outstanding. When I asked for a cocktail pairing, they recommended the Banana Republic—a bourbon-based drink. As a wine drinker, I’d describe it as having a full body, excellent depth, and a great finish. The addition of a lemon garnish brought out a lively acidity, creating a beautifully balanced cocktail overall.

Came for drinks after a show at the Capital One arena after passing every packed bar in the area. Had a wonderful experience!! The drinks and staff were absolutely phenomenal! The bar manager was VERY kind and chatted with us over an experimental cocktail which was VERY delicious. Vibe is lovely all around I would highly recommend.

Morris is without a doubt an absolute gem of a cocktail bar and my personal favorite. The bartenders are not only inventive but also thoroughly well-versed in classics and contemporary drinks. You can tell the whole team is proud of their bar, and it really shows. The seasonal menu is their own impressive creation, but make no mistake, they gladly take requests and offer new suggestions. Inside is a time capsule of a classic bar. The colors, décor, lighting, music – it is the perfect place for relaxing drinks. Outside is shaded and casual, exactly what you want for a group of friends. Other bars even the often lauded “Bests in DC” have fallen short of what Morris is consistently doing here in terms of quality, knowledge, skill, and service. You get way more than what you pay for here. As amazing as it all is, it is not at all stuffy. Everybody is friendly, easygoing, and enjoys what they are doing. This review is long overdue and could not be more well deserved. Morris often surprises, never disappoints, and after all their extra hard work during the pandemic, I cannot wait to sit at the actual bar again. Until then, cheers!

Morris American Bar isn't what you expect. It's literally inside the sterile looking Convention Center so it's easy to miss the door when walking by. However, once inside it's anything but boring. It's the perfect little cocktail bar. They have several rooms for dining and a long bar for those of us wanting a drink. It's a very casual classy place with beautiful wallpaper giving it Gatsby style (you know, from the book The Great Gatsby). The bartenders are friendly and know what they are doing. In addition to wine, beer, and cider, they have a great seasonal cocktail menu that often changes. Each drink is $12 (not bad for a quality drink in DC) and it's $2 off until 7pm for happy hour. I went with the bartender's choice and had an excellent drink. If you want a classy chill happy hour spot with beautiful atmosphere, head to Morris American Bar. It's in Mt Vernon Square so there are plenty of other excellent dinner spots to go to afterwards (I recommend the Kinship!).

Excellent drinks! I’m very picky and I ask for complex drinks and tweaks like less sweet or spirit forward. The bartenders delivered and delivered well. They were stiff when it came to interpersonal interaction... truly great bartenders give personalized attention to people sitting at the bar even though they’re making drinks for the entire restaurant. Maybe they will ascend to this level one day... until then they have to settle for being judged by their excellent drinks! (We did not eat food; so, N/A stars on food)

Excellent cocktails, gorgeous decor, and an energetic vibe round out this cocktail bar. A few friends and I stopped here on a Saturday night after dinner at Kinship and weren't disappointed. Everything we ordered was creative and well-balanced, no false notes. Looking forward to returning for another outing.

A Surprise place... It was hard to find the entrance. But once found. We were greeted quickly, and everyone was friendly. The restaurant has a unique cozy vibe. The bartender suggested items to our liking. It was off the menu cocktail. It turned out to be one of the best old-fashioned I had. I will be visiting again with my friends to have the OLD FASHIONED.

Our favorite cocktail joint in town! The drinks are top-notch and reasonably-priced. We’ve been to other “good” places that charged $16 for a to-go cup. Morris beats that in so many aspects and it never disappoints. Everyone works there are super nice and knowledgeable. Doug, Ian and Rhine are skillful bartenders who can fix you up with almost any requests. They usually have seasonal cocktail menus and recently added low & non-alcohol drinks which is perfect for a person like me who can’t drink too much. I got Strawberry Kitty last time and it’s sooo good! If you want something refreshing, you NEED to get it! Please support their business. They work hard to stay afloat while continue to innovate great drinks during this difficult time.

Excellent service and drinks. Galvin did a great job with my "make me a fancy gin tonic" and hubby enjoyed his drinks as well. Cute space inside for a drink or two.

Had such a great experience here with my friend. We came for their Christmas holiday pop up bar. The customer service was amazing and so were the drinks. Highly recommend visiting this location.

Good experience. We did the Halloween special & the drinks were good. We both got 3 drinks each & they were great. Our favorite was Noche de sueno & dia de muertos. Food menu were also limited. We got the devil eggs & they were good.

Quality/Price 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Areas of improvement: food/snacks menu. Heading to Kinship for dinner, we decided to explore this bar; it was just a good experience. The bartender (Ryan) was just amazing. He suggested a cocktail that was out of the menu and it was really tasty. The bar is cosy, not pretentious, service is great. Around $13 per cocktail, using good liquor, fairly cheap for DC prices. Excellent for a date or having good talk with friends. The owner of Morris owns Shepard, the famous DC speakeasy.

Amazing bar... for first date, second and third, after work with friends, for any occasion... is the perfect excuse to get amazing drinks Ask the bartender to blow your mind... and he will! Definitely coming back!!!

The staff are super friendly and accommodating. We ordered off the menu and were pleasantly surprised at how much we liked our drinks. The mocktails and zero proof drinks were great too!

Morris is an absolutely superb cocktail bar in DC. The drinks are delicious, all of them. And your opinion matters. They’ll genuinely ask whether you liked your drink, and take it back if you’re unhappy. On our second round, we did bartenders recommendation - try it for a fun surprise. Overall, the decor is fun and the music is lively. If you’re at the convention center and want to have a nice cocktail, or you’re just downtown, it’s worth a stop.

..... my friends are the worst. They keep sending me places to go to. This was a nice spot. Drinks and the bartender was on point. Ask for Rita. She's a mixologist

A fantastic bar with a good selection of drinks. The manager, Wlimot, is very knowledgeable and made our night amazing. If you don't see a cocktail on the menu, just ask for him and he can definitely help. While not on the menu he talked to us about the over 100 different OLD Fashioned varations they make on request. Just a great bar not to far from the convention center. Will absolutely be back next time we are in town.

Swanky and cozy bar with two floors. Spent some time here with family and friends. Great cocktail selection and service. We were greeted quickly and everyone was friendly. I really appreciated the full-size Johnnie Walker figure outside lol.

Morris American Bar is classy, modern, pastel-pretty bar with bar seating and laid back seating. My boyfriend and I enjoyed drinks after dinner nearby. The drink menu changes monthly and cocktails are $12 each. This month's cocktail menu featured six cocktails - Gentleman's Buck, Gloria, Oaxacan Sunshine, 1920, Tequila Gumption, and Brugal. Of the six cocktails, we tried the Gentleman's Buck and Oaxacan Sunshine. The Gentleman's Buck consisted of bourbon, lime, ginger, orange, and bitters. It was bubbly and reminded me of a Moscow Mule. The Oaxacan Sunshine consisted of mezcal, aperol, lemon, strawberry, and crushed ice. It was light, fruity, smoky, and delicious.

This bar has great vibes and a great selection of whiskey! The bartenders and hostess are super kind and knowledgeable about their selection. Tasty small plates!

Good drinks, good service. It’s across the street from where Google currently shows. Has an outdoor patio that feels much different than the indoor vibe

We enjoyed some craft cocktails here during a recent visit to DC. This bar has laid back vibes & a cozy ambiance. It was not too crowded when we were there. Love the interiors, very thoughtful in the details. The paint color (slate blue) with floral accents adds a unique design. Bartenders were friendly. Will visit again for HH!

Came here after a conference; perfect place to unwind with delicious cocktails and easy bites. Our bartender, Alia, was super helpful, friendly and made the visit even better. Best part about this place, other than the service, is the detail and craft they put into their drinks. It’s a standard two oz pour, so happy hour, is indeed, happy. Cheers!

The cocktails are the star of the show. The bartender/owner is an absolute gem. We came here because it was close to our hotel and we wanted a to have a drink or two and we’re not disappointed. If you’re looking for somewhere that truly can make a craft cocktail, this is your place.

As a cocktail enthusiast, I’ve sampled 90+ cocktail bars in the DC area - Morris is undoubtedly one of the best, if not THE best, cocktail spot in DC. Fairly priced, cozy decor, and creative, spirit-forward, divine cocktails - but what truly sets them apart is their incredible personnel. Rhine and Rita are not only mixology experts who can craft a perfect cocktail to your specific likes, they are exceedingly professional and courteous and always make the experience at Morris feel special. We love this place and continue to come back for them - thank you Rhine and Rita, for always making our time at Morris so wonderful!

Popped in for a cocktail with my wife. She had a Mexican Firing Squad and I, feeling a little adventurous, chose bartenders choice. I specified tequila as my liquor and the server inquired if I'm someone who likes sweet and refreshing or strong and slow drinking. I asked for somewhere in between but less sweet. I was presented with the very best tequila cocktail I've ever had and I'm an old(ish) fart with a lot of experience with tequila. I had 2. My wife very much enjoyed her cocktail as well. Service was great, atmosphere was great and the drinks were spot on. We'll be back.

Had a great birthday celebration here! Really loved the warm and cozy vibe, and the upstairs area was the perfect space for our group. Plus, the holiday cocktail menu was a hit with all my friends. Will definitely be back - thank you to Rhine and our lovely server for being so friendly and accommodating! (Note: I left the rating for food blank since they weren't serving a full menu on Sunday night, but they were kind enough to make some great charcuterie boards for our group)

Morris American Bar is a great, new cocktail option in an area that doesn't have many cocktail bars. The atmosphere is the best part - you really feel like you're back in the 50's at a diner turned speakeasy. The service was also great. The cocktails were very good, but I was not overly impressed with any of them. Definitely a good spot for a late night cocktail, though.

nice atmosphere, slightly too much air-con , or we as European are not use it ?.. We ordered 2 espresso martini, they were average, So much vodka , and coffee was not strong enough. For my taste But their original cocktail were Bom !!! Jamaican twist on Manhattan super tasty . La Reina was soooo good , if you live tequila try this . Overall i would definitely go back

This place is a little small but has a great environment. I attended a private party there and the food and drink were delicious. The staff were very courteous.

Reservation cost $33; which included two flutes of champagne. We arrived on time but had to wait at the bar for a bit before table became available; that wasn't right next to the drafty door (VERY cold outside that evening). That gave us time to sip on our flutes and to enjoy the downstairs decorations. When we reseated upstairs, we were near a television showing a fun "elf on a shelf" scene on repeat and had a commanding view of the ceiling and wall decorations as well as some floating decorations above the bar. We each ordered a specialty cocktail and shared a spiced cider. With taxes, a service fee, and 20% service charge, our bill came to to $67 and change, meaning that our entire visit cost $100. This is definitely not something we would do on a regular basis; $100 is a steep climb for a couple hours out for 2 cocktails, 2 (inexpensive) champagne flute, and a non-alcoholic apple cider. But considering that we had tried to go to a couple of other holiday bars, only to find long wait lines, and considering how much my wife truly loves the holiday season, it was worth it to surprise her just this one time 😁. My rating would go from a four-star to five star if either the experience was a tad less expensive (and therefore commensurate with the intricacy of the decorations and size/quality of drinks) or the reservation fee was applicable to the tab, rather than the singular option of champagne. The chairs could also be a little bit more comfortable. The service was excellent. Axel, our tables' helpful elf, attended to us every 5 to 10 minutes, checking on our needs.

Visited the latest pop up inspired by Emily in Paris with the entire bar decorated like a Parisian cafe with bar and indoor seating as well as outside front seating. A nice interactive space if you are a fan of the tv show and if not a fun and unique space to enjoy a night out. The pop up has specialty cocktails (but also a full bar to order your preference) and a light bar menu that includes French staples like a cheese board, ham baguettes, tarte flambé and light desserts like macarons. I enjoyed the cheese board and tarte flambé but if you wanted a fuller meal you will need to order several items from the menu. The bar service for drinks was prompt and the bar staff provided great recommendations for the speciality cocktails. $ The pop up lasts for a limited time. Recommendations highly recommended (the space is intimate) There is paid street parking nearby

The space was thoughtfully designed with a great bar but the drinks were a bit of a letdown - certainly not bad but I was expecting something a touch more exciting (I know they rotate monthly so I’ll be back to try some new ones soon) The vibe was also a touch quiet/empty which was a bit of a bummer since we were celebrating but perhaps it would have been better if we were there earlier or later

M
Michelle Rodriguez

I visited specifically for the Elf on the shelf event with my 7 year old. The place itself was decorated beautifully and was full of holiday cheer. The only downfall was the food + drinks were not on par with the overall experience. The service was fine but an automatic 20% gratuity that blatantly explains it is not a tip is absurd. Something potential customers should be aware of before deciding whether this place is worth a try.

We went to their Christmas event, paid $15 per person just to book it. Went there a bit after 8pm and there were at least 3 families with little kids at adult only venue, whats up with that. While staff was great and friendly, we didn't really care for the cocktails, they were just ok. And kids running around did not really set the visit for a good time. Cool Christmas decor though but I would not pay for it

A
Adrea Murphy

This used to be one of my favorite cocktail bars in DC. I do think the servers/staff are great and in general the bar has a nice atmosphere. However the prices have gotten out of control. Recently paid for entrance to the Pop-Up Christmas theme they have going on; it was cute but honestly was not that much different from other Decembers I’ve been to this bar. It included 1 glass of champagne. The drinks are around $22 and mocktails at $14. You get a very small serving. Please don’t bother with the food; that’s where I really messed up. The quality is Not there and the prices are egregious. I paid $8 for an “assorted candy bowl” which contained mini gummy bears, gummy worms, and 3 peppermints. Literally dollar store candy at about 8x the price. There’s also a service charge added to the bill. I was in no way expecting to spend over $100 here after a mediocre pizza the size of my hand, dollar store candy, 1 mocktail, and 1 cocktail. Really a disgrace.

David Strauss the original owner is no longer at this bar. His crew of excellent bartenders is also no longer at this bar. We came back in March 2019 and noticed a distinct difference in the service and drink menus. Service was not as attentive and the drinks were just typical ordinary drinks that you easily make at home. It's a different bar without their star bartenders and original crafted cocktails. Original review: The best cocktail bar in DC because 1) cocktails are well balanced and boozy; 2) reasonably priced at $12 each; and 3) they have happy hour 5-7. The staff is friendly and knows what a good cocktail should taste like. The place is also very cozy and not too crowded yet. They’re on par with many good cocktail bars in NYC like Employees Only. This is my default cocktail bar in DC when I want a good drink.

A
Alex Mauthe

I went specifically for the Emily in Paris pop-up which was anticlimactic at best. We were seated closely to 2 others when there was plenty of other open space. The specialty (Emily in Paris themed) drinks were good, albeit pricey. The charcuterie board was oversimplified, but the cheese pizza was good. Honestly without the Emily in Paris theme, I wouldn’t come here nor recommend.

J
J. Hines

I am usually blessed to provide great reviews but unfortunately that is not the case this time. The sign outside says that they close at 12 on weeknights but at about 5 minutes to 10pm, my group was turned away despite having multiple empty tables and people of another ethnicity at the bar. While I'm not quick to share reviews like this, I was informed that they have been turning people from our group away all weekend!! We have over 25,000 women here this week and it's very disappointing because it's one of the closest restaurants to the convention center,

A
Aditya Prasad

I would give a 5 star because the service was awesome, ambience was great, and drinks were fire. But the holding management company (versus Hospitality) practices unethical and dishonest policies by adding an additional 3% restaurant service charge on top of the 20% gratuity that DOES NOT go to servers and is not removable. Pay your workers transparently and consistently, and don’t follow these predatory practices. Will not return because I can’t support that especially in this economy. I’d rather tip my server 25%, or have the price of everything baked in and their wages higher than to offset management costs by paying 3% extra.

S
Sam Wolfe

I've never trashed a bar before, but $21 is a ridiculous price for a screwdriver with rail vodka, even for DC. If I had known from the start it would've been fine, but I was neither informed of the price before ordering nor did I get a receipt. If I had known, I would've just ordered a sandwich or a beer. Also, way too hot inside. You may have gotten some extra money tonight, but instead of earning a consistent patron at these language exchanges, this will likely be my first and last visit.

S
Sandy Liu

Overpriced $30/pp for 2 hr reservation (scam) for a claimed Holiday pop up environment (an elf closet), only to arrive at an old rundown, filthy bar of limited seating making $$$ for minimal pour drinks and crappy snacks. No thanks as disgusting so don’t throw away your time or money here - donate it to good will. Otherwise, you’ll be disappointed when you arrive…. Scam Lesson learned that no need to pay advance cover before seeing.
