The restaurant has a great ambiance. It's cozy and inviting, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal.
Fast service, friendly staff, delicious food, great price, thank you, I will definitely come back.
The miso soup was delicuous!!
It's very delicious, the portion is very large, the ingredients are very fresh, and the service is considerate.
This place is so interesting. Great food, great experience. Great service. I will definitely come back.
Lovely place, good food, friendly staff. Convenient lunch deals with nice portions.
Great - the quality of the food is also very favorable. I highly recommend it.
The attention to detail is what sets this restaurant apart. Even the smallest garnish is carefully considered and adds to the overall flavor.
Best sushi place!!! Lunch special is great. Fish is always fresh and they deliver fast.
My childhood sushi spot, absolute best in the world
Very nice quiet place. We had been out all day sightseeing so it was nice to sit down in a quiet place
This is my favorite sushi place for delivery and even dine-in. Delivery is quick with accurate orders. Dine-in is small and while not impressive, it's clean and friendly. Fish is fresh, and there are great vegetarian rolls too (peanut avocado, sweet potato tempura). Consistently tasty, and I've been coming for two years.
I really liked this place. The sushi was good and with the lunch special going until 5pm, we got a great deal on it. The lavender bubble tea was also unique and yummy. The feel of the place is cozy and cute.
The menu has a great variety and everything we tried was delicious. It's definitely one of the best restaurants I've been to.
Visiting New York from Italy. I wanted to go and try some sushi here and I couldn't find any better place. The restaurant is very cosy and the employees are very wellcoming. Also the prices are very reasonable. Best sushi I've ever had, ever. I will definitely be back. If you want to eat a very tasty, juicy sushi come here.
I like their food and the treatment of the staff, and I highly recommend this place. Thank you for your service and affordable price.
Best sushi ever, especially the angry dragon roll!! Its a must have. Had this sushi 5 years ago and today I was so excited to see they are still there. Got to say their quality has not changed. Just as good as I remember.
My friend and I had an amazing experience here. We are Brazilians and loved the sushi. It’s a great place, it’s clean and friendly. We certainly will come back.
Authentic and fresh! We stumbled on to JR sushi just in time for their lunch special. They have great dishes, serve beer and table service. Get there early for lunch as seating is limited. Highly recommend
sushi, super delicious. Got there near seven, it wasn't very crowded. I look forward to a return visit. This place has a cool design. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I liked.
Generally speaking, the waiter is very polite and the food is also very good. I will definitely recommend you to come here for dinner.
Selected fresh and delicious food. Great service. Reasonable price.
Great sushi at a reasonable price for the area and quick service.
Delicious! I've ordered here many times over the years and the food is always fresh. Great sushi and great people. 🍣
I stumbled upon this place on my way home one afternoon. It is definitely your typical hole-in-the-wall NYC spot. So unassuming from the outside, but so worth the visit! I got the salmon don with ginger salad. The salad was a great starter and the sushi was super fresh and delicious. The sushi chef, who also acted as my server, was attentive and kind. I bookmarked this place to return to the next time I want quick, affordable, and fresh sushi.
A beautiful place! As others have said, I want more food prices. Other than that, this is great! Our waiters are also very friendly. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some delicious food.
Despite initially ordering takeout, I stayed for two hours and enjoyed the delicious miso black cod at the sushi bar, conversing with Chef Kenji about Tokyo spots.
The food here was delicious, I don’t usually eat sushi but I had it here it was amazing,(shrimp dumplings are a must)their service was really good as well, they noticed we were eating the crumbs of the sushi’s toppings he brought us extra 😭 so sweet. It’s underrated restaurant!
Always great experience! I’ve been ordering lunch special for a few months already and so far always had fresh and delicious sushi! Fast delivery 🚚
My friend's recommendation made me very satisfied👍, and the environment and food here are very good. I highly recommend this place to enjoy a relaxing two-hour meal.
Great food, great places, I always like to eat here! I'm really glad to have a good service! As always, we will come back! The food is great!
Fresh, tasty, friendly staff and not expensive
I love eating here. I always get the Alaskan rolls & spicy mayo for their lunch specials! Always made fresh & lovely seating area. Love it here!
Sushi 🍣 was fresh and delicious. The service was good and everyone was nice.
I grew up 2 blocks away from jr sushi and it was a staple for me and my family, its pricing is very good with a nice cozy atmosphere, I love this place and always will
Good quality sushi, and great service. I recommend!
By far some of the best tasting sushi in Manhattan. The hole in the walls are the best. Can’t wait to come back for the snapper sushi. Excellent!
My go-to spot near City Hall! Their lunch combo ($15 for 3 rolls + miso soup?!) is a steal. Love how the salmon melts in your mouth. Pro tip: Ask for the 'off-menu' dragon roll – it’s life-changing.
I liked this place, it is clean and the sushi is fresh and tasty. Service was quick and professional. I got the lunch special, three rolls and a salad for $16.95. Where else can you eat a healthy, tasty meal for under $20 these days? My favorite roll was the peanut, avocado. The crunchy peanuts made the roll delicious and fun. The atmosphere is adorable and comfortable. I look forward to coming back and trying more items.
Just back in hotel and finished the meal. As a sushi lover, I have tried quite some sushi restaurants in NYC. I would say this restaurant is one of the best! Might even want to order from them again if I feel hungry later 😋 After this satisfying meal, I suddenly feel so random and read the reviews of this restaurant one by one. I am so surprised that quite many of the reviews have only 1 star and saying the staff here are racism. I feel sorry if they are true. This is also one of the reasons why I am writing my first review on Google. I just want to be fair. In my experience, I think they are doing good for the food. Service wise, since I did not dine here, I did not have so much feelings. I would say it’s just normal. Wooo maybe this restaurant is lucky that I am writing this for them (I swear I don’t know them at all) and I am in a good mood today HAHAHA. Sadly I’m actually leaving NYC tomorrow but I will be back very soon! I think if I don’t order from them again later today I would definitely order next time when I come NY for work again :D
They have very good sushi. It's a small place in the downtown but I definitely recommend to visit it. It's not modern not so much space but sushi was excellent. I have been there two time, checked different sushi sets (see photos) and I'll do it next time when I visit New York. Prices are reasonable.
Good was good, not really a spot to dine in if it's a lot of people. Very small. And expensive
Great spot for grabbing a bubble tea to go! Super friendly staff. Small dining space, but good for carryout. Haven't tried the sushi (yet!).
Small (cozy), quiet at 9pm on a Saturday night, and excellent service. The AAC roll is one of the best I've had anywhere.
Decent little sushi place by the Chambers st. subway station. They have reasonably priced lunch specials and the sushi is fresh. I'll definitely be back for takeout.
It is really great. Very small place with a homely vibe. Sushi was very nice and the others who had a bento also enjoyed their food. Not ideal for large parties but couples and smaller groups of 4 to 6 persons.
Popped in here for a take out after visiting the Observation deck at the One World Trade Center, staff helpful and the chefs, which you can watch them prepare your food, were very quick. I can't comment on the atmosphere as we didn't eat in. But the food was tasty and fresh.
It was pretty good for a small spot. Staffs was welcoming and pleasant. Got the cali rolls avocado eel rolls with shrimp sticks and 2 bubble teas. Was pretty quick and we sat in. Pleasant. We enjoyed our time there.
Good food but service was awful… server was kinda mad. Not customer service culture.
Good place for a quick sushi fix. Small but they move the tables quickly and I have always gotten a seat. Their takeout seems very successful!
Very ordinary place. Good portions but the salmon was tasteless, the size was not well prepared. Service was ok
average new York sushi, okay price but there's better
Mackerel was notably worse than the rest (salmon skin maki, & eel, both drenched in eel sauce), fish was a few days old -- rubbery and perhaps dangerous. The fact that the chefs were not bothered by this worries me, as it may be indicative of fish quality shortcomings.
We usually go to the restaurant and always have a good experience. But today we ordered online the delivery came within an hour but when i came downstairs to pay the deliveryman looks pissed and told me he would never delivery here again. Our friends have ordered to the same building many times without such a comment. So we basically wont be going back in person and since we can't order online we'll be going elsewhere. We live about 5-6 blocks away so its not about distance. no need for the deliveryman to be so sour especially after I tipped 6 dollars. Food is good, just expect the deliveryman to make faces at your regardless of tip, distance and complain.
Right now I'm waiting for my debit card to be sent in the mail so I had to order food over the phone like an old timer. The guy on the phone barely spoke English, didn't understand me and didn't know the difference between a lobster roll and an Alaskan roll! When I saw the mix up, I demanded they bring the right one (lobster roll) on the house or I'd write this review and he didn't care so I'm writing it. And to add insult to injury, I said I was paying cash and the delivery guy didn't have any change! He thought he could stiff me and walk away with a huge tip! I told him that's not happening and he had to go to the nearest store to breaks a large bill. Two complaints! One is bad enough
First time there. I got 2 rolls and spent $35. The sushi was a 4 out of 10 and definitely not worth what they charged. I’ve been to better places for half the price they charge. Definitely robbery. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Was excited by the new sushi place, unfortunately it's not good. Staff didn't seem to appreciate any enthusiasm when asking what's recommended. Their choice wasn't good either. Prices are not much cheaper than the way better places in the area. I always go to Tokyo Bay. I've heard they have good bubble tea, but I go to jupioca down the street. They're incredible so I don't have a reason to try anywhere else at the time.
Food was okay. It not the best but acceptable. But the service is sucks. I have never ever encountered such a rude waitress. I am talking about that girl. She seems not even happy when we go to eat. Rude Rude. Do not go there!
Service was rude. Sushi was decent. They made us take our trash from our food. They refused to throw it in there own garbage. Very rude. Will not be back.
Mediocre sushi, awful service, disgusting experience, there were making us feel super uncomfortable
Went with my friend. Good was good but one of the staff members was so rude over tips. He even asked us not to come back. Very disappointing.
Food ok but not value, some price I can find other much better sushi. Especially the service attitude is very bad.
Average food for very a high price tag. Went with a few friends and left hungry after paying $120+.
This place is just nasty. I use to be the worker there. I quit because how my work peers doesn't really even care about the customers which anger me so much. This place was really good when I still working there. However for the past 3 to 6 month. This restaurant is so bad. They have slower delivery. Lack in service. The girl there just talk with the sushi chef and does not really care about customers.
This place its horrible the lady on the cashier has a nasty attitide. I got a bubble tea i asked for the price the first time i didnt hear her so i asked her again and she rolled her eyes and yelled at me the price. When i got my bubble tea it was grainy and disgusting. I asked her if maybe she can remake it or fix it and she starting speaking in her language very obvious she was talking about me maybe cursing me out for all that i know. She gave me the same drink just with more ice to and slammed it on the table and i was very sticky. Her co worker was telling her to calm down acting like she wanted to fight or something. This staff is very arrongant, dirty, rude and unprofessional. I ended up leaving without a drink or my money back. Waste of money and time. I hate this place. Everyone i know or talk to would not be coming to this restaurant.
Our family went for sushi night in NYC to Jr Sushi and I was appalled by this owner or manager who literally said “out! I am not going to serve you because you are too many of you” My question in my head was, too many black people??? We have teenage kids with us and left the restaurant with out making a seen for their experience sake!!! We are from Texas and been in NYC before, however this experience was despicable and no interest ever going back to JR Sushi. I saw the reviews about this place from other customers, but we were not that lucky to talk about the food because we were not even allowed to be seated in the restaurant!!! This is the 21st century and individuals still make a point that black and brown people are not welcome in their businesses! Shame on you Jr sushi!
Went with my girlfriend few days ago. Bad service attitude and told me that the quantity of food is high and it's expensive, but when I saw the sushi, I was blown away. The sushi is very limited, not tasty, and expensive. When ordering, I was told that there was a lot of sushi, but when I got the sushi, it was too little. Never gonna came back here!!!
Service was very bad. The manager was very rude and arrogant with us for no reason. He yelled at us for not ordering more food and drinks and told us to leave and never come back again. Being arrogant and yelling at us for no reason does not make any sense. I request the management to look at their staff and fix them. Who would like to go to a place where staff tells you to leave and never come back again?! Really NOT recommended.
So I came in and asked if I could make a roll, avocado and jalapeño roll, the waitress said to wait while she asked. As she asks, another waitress starts to look at me and laugh. My waitress walks back and says "Sure, we can do but it's $1 extra." The other waitress still laughing. I get this roll all the time and never get charged extra, so I said "No, thank you." As I say that, the waitress that was laughing goes "Bye, bye!" Obviously strange and rude, I got up and left. As I'm leaving, a person standing outside said "You dodged a bullet, they're not even fresh." Yeesh! Save yourself the time, don't even consider coming here!!
The worst service ever! Today is the second time I tried to get a “Eel Hand Roll.” Last week they brought me a regular Eel roll. Tonight they understood the HAND part, but the impatient and rude girls did NOT ask me if I wanted it with cucumber or avocado, I assumed by default it would be with cucumber (and my $8.66 receipt said CUCUMBER EEL HAND ROLL). So I happily awaited...what did I get? A plain eel hand roll with just a tad of rice!!!! Disgusting. Never again.
Very rude customer service. We just got in the store, and the guy told us to leave as soon as he noticed that we have a large group. He took the menu back. I’ve never been in a restaurant where the owner says he won’t serve for no reason. I suspect racism but whatever….YOUR LOSS Sir!
Every time I order something it always wrong. I ordered yellow tail with Yuzu they gave ponzu I ordered few spicy mayo was charged but never got it. Sashimi ordered many thing and 3 pieces was missing but they didn’t forget to charge me ;)
I went to this restaurant. The service was terrible, they don't give change, and they treat you terribly. It was my first time there, and I got a very bad impression.
Scammers Alert!! They charge people more than what it says on receipt. I had dine in food, that's probably like 5 minutes cause I was in a rush so I ate one roll, made another one to go, for $22.12 bill. I used apply pay and the charge was $23.93 including tax, and it was $23.93 on credit card bill too. Then it's been changed to $33.93 after 4 days. Like $10 extra for what? I called the restaurant and they completely denied this transaction saying that this amount or this card never been used. Like how could you even do that to students?!It's nearby a school and a college so they get many students as their customers. And then they scam people like this? Their foods are already overpriced, despite people go there sometimes consider supporting the Asian community. But no more. Never going back to this place again❗
Harassed by delivery person. Never ordering again from this place
DO NOT COME HERE. I have been going here for years because of work. Food used to be great and services were excellent. However, for over the past 6 months services were horrible: 1. employees act like they don't want to be there 2. they don't pay attention to customers and talk among themselves 3. take wrong orders. 4.Worst of all, when you asked for the left over for to go, they would bring out the container and pack the food in front of you. The restaurant is small so the server (girl) armpit is in my face and she didn't care that we are in a middle of the conversation. DO NOT COME HERE.
I found the reviews here to be misleading. This place is tiny and dingy, and the service we got was the rudest I have ever seen. We were a large group of nine, at first they told us they can accommodate us, but a few minutes later they changed their minds and said they cannot serve us. We asked the person what the issue was, and he couldn't even explain himself, just shook his head and looked away. In this city of countless sushi places, I doubt if there is one that's worse than this.
My husband and I went here for the first time August 28th because we were in the area and saw the great reviews. My husband ordered and the food was great. However, the service was bad. The man at the front counter was rushing us to leave. When we entered the place was empty and the sign said '4 person capacity'. We were told that in order to eat there we must pay a tip and the man at the front kept asking us if we wanted to go. Would not recommend.
Ordered take out. Was not fresh at all. Tempura was greasy.
“On Friday, July 21st, 2023, I had a frightening experience with blatant racism at JR Sushi in Manhattan. After leaving one of my accounts following a presentation, I arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 pm feeling hungry. JR Sushi appeared uncrowded and open, so I decided to dine there. Upon entering, no one approached me to seat me, so I assumed it was a casual seat-yourself place. I approached the man at the bar/counter area to ask for a table, but he rudely handed me a menu and seemed uninterested. I insisted on a table, but he dismissively shooed me away. Despite this, I decided to seat myself and proceeded to order a glass of wine and vegetable soup. As the same man came to take my order, he condescendingly questioned if that was all I wanted. I remained polite, stating I might order more later. This uncomfortable situation made me feel like I needed to prove myself, assuming they might be stereotyping me as a Black person. Later, a White couple entered the restaurant, and the employees rushed to greet and seat them, but I didn’t receive the same treatment. When my small soup arrived, I realized I needed more food and politely asked for the menu. The man snatched my wine and soup, telling me to ‘GET OUT.’ I was confused, embarrassed, and hurt. I recorded the incident, giving him a chance to rectify the situation, but he continued telling me to leave. Other customers also witnessed his rudeness. As a Black person in America, I know the importance of raising awareness about mistreatment. I’ll report this incident to the neighborhood committee board and inform the surrounding businesses. Such behavior shouldn’t be tolerated, and I won’t patronize JR Sushi again. This hurtful and offensive experience should never happen to anyone. -DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT-JR. SUSHI!!!”
The restaurant appeared unclean ( dust on surfaces and equipment). I took a chance and ordered a garden salad, miso soup, and yogurt lychee drink. The salad was iceberg lettuce that were packed in a plate with 2 cherrie tomatoes and what appeared to be dried out carrot (spirals). As I ate the salad, I had to use my hand as it was not chopped up. I also noticed what appeared to be an insect after eating the top portion. I was grossed and proceeded to start feeling ill. This location is not sanitary and should be closed for in depth cleaning. I do not recommend anyone from eating here and plan on reporting as this is a health hazard. Outside of the restaurant says “A”. I am unsure when was the last rating. I really hate wasting money on food. I have to throw it away. I plan to take it to the restaurant to ask for my money back and if that doesn’t work. I’ll dispute with my bank. But def reporting to health department.
Have been one time before. The first time, lobster sushi was *not* worth $25 for a daily special roll (it was a once in a blue moon mini-splurge.) Lobster was flavorless, and chewy. I'm guessing it was frozen and is defrosted in individual roll-size portions. Shrimp tempura roll was decent, but a little high as well, since it is on the "lower tier" roll list ($7.95 instead of the usual $5.95 or $6.95 at other places.) Other items on menu were normally priced - $5.95 and $6.95 for common rolls, and $7.95 to $12.95 for more elaborate rolls on the regular menu. Special rolls seem to be collectively overpriced a bit. Lobster roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a soda ended up being $42, after tax and tip. I could have had a nice sit-down meal with table service for that, instead of 2 regular size sushi rolls. . Move forward 2 months, and I was down in the area again. This time, I didn't get to order. Manager refused access for a well-identified service animal (well-marked vest, registration card, tag on collar, etc) a few steps inside the restaurant, to the spot inside where you have to go to place the order. Disgraceful. Ordering was inside and eating outside, with no table service outside, but he insisted the dog be left outside for me to order inside for eating at an outside table with no table service. The manager could have at least agreed to come outside and take the order (inside is extremely small - 2 tables on the left and a couple of bar stools on the right, with the cash register/order spot directly inside on the left.) Manager was belligerent and dismissive. Will not be back. Reported incident to 311. No one should be treated like that.
