Opinions de Garden Fresh West El Camino Real
Garden Fresh is a fabulous VEGAN restaurant with a great selection! Our favorites are the Szechuan Eggplant, the Basil Tempura, and the Scallion pancakes. We also love the Hot & Sour soup and the Corn & Tofu chowder! The owners are lovely! They cook & serve all the food themselves and are completely delightful & attentive. Highly recommend!
This place is so delicious! I’ve dined in and gotten take out and it never misses! Their scallion pancakes are the best way to start a meal, and it’s a great place to take your vegan and vegetarian friends! The server is so nice and remembers me and my order even when it’s months between visits :)
If we could only eat at a single restaurant for the rest of our lives, it would be Garden Fresh. We recently moved to Southern California, but make a point of visiting as often as possible. Alice is so kind and the food is exceptional!
I've been here a few times and every dish I've gotten has been fantastic. The owners are super kind and great to talk to! I highly recommend trying this place out :)
I like to try to support local restaurants whenever I eat out and today I stopped by Garden Fresh. They absolutely deserve a shout out and I encourage anyone to try their food. The co-owner Alice and I got to talking about food scenes, tofu, cooking, and her and the chef were just beyond kind and generous. I ordered some vegan orange chicken and veggie chowmein. Even though I didn't order it, they kindly gave me some vegan cake and some special tofu to try as well. Everything I had was phenomenal,They didn't have to do all of that, and they went above and beyond. Just wanted to share because they are great people and I hope their business does well.
We loved the braised beans with tofu. Singapore noodles and the mango chicken. This is a small restaurant. I only saw a husband wife team, so service wasn't perfect. But they were very sweet and caring. We plan to become regulars here.
Delicious and vegetarian, what a great find! To top it off, service was incredible and so refreshing to have wonderful customer service. There was a bit of mix-up with my order but she sorted it out and they were both was quite friendly. I got the veggie duck and the black pepper chicken chow mein. Serving size and prices, no complaints at all. I had leftovers for another meal or two. Delicious and flavorful no doubt! Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.
Authentic Buddhist Chinese food (vegan) that features faux meats made of gluten or togu skin, to deliver the look & (mouth)feel of the real thing. One of a very few fully vegan Chinese restaurants in the region. Well executed dishes, though sometimes the flavors can converge. Highly recommend Veggie Duck. Do not recommend Hong Kong Style Fried Noodles (go to a Cantonese restaurant for this!) Excellent for plant-based diets. Due to Omicron they're back to take-out only, though they accommodated us when we requested (and helped) to move a table outside.
Great option for spicy food lovers! Bonus points for a small, locally-owned mom and pop shop (a husband and wife run the place). Been coming here for a few years and has always been consistently tasty. Try to come early before you are hungry because they are pretty stretched and don't have a lot of workers. The place is pretty small so there may be a little bit of a wait. Good authentic Chinese food but with a vegetarian (probably vegan) twist. Food is so good that even meat eaters can enjoy it because their veggie meat is really, really good. Their faux meat options actually taste different from one another (duck is probably the most popular, I like the ribs, and chicken as well). I had their vegan dessert cake before (in the refrigerator) and it was honestly the best vegan cake I've had. Not sure where they get it from but it was soft and moist.
We came here for lunch on a weekday. No wait as we got there right when they opened. This was my first time to this restaurant but I'm familiar with Chinese vegan food. Overall the food was great, the owner was really nice. There were 8 of us and one of us was Gluten Free and the owner took her time to circle out which dish they could accommodate for GF. Since we were a big group we ordered a bunch of entree to share. My favorite was the orange beef, mango chicken and veggie duck. The spring rolls were worth ordering as well. The food was not as salty as I typically found in Chinese vegan restaurants - which was great. Would definitely come back. Go for: -spring rolls -orange beef -mango chicken -vegi duck Skip: - hot plate tofu - potstickers
Blew my expectations away. I'm a carnivore who eats 70% meat diet and I loved the food. Looks like meat, texture is like meat, and taste similar. Dishes are seasoned well. This is a must try. Dishes are a bit pricey at ~$15... But it is in Palo Alto, and it is unique. The place it's pretty small, so may have wait times during peak hours.
***USP: decades old Chinese vegan place with mock meat based dishes. ***AMBIANCE: place is not very large and has stood the test of time. It's in need of some deep cleaning but is definitely very decent considering the age and the fact that it's run by a very old couple. ***FOOD: here is what we got- *black pepper chow mein- 3/5- lacked oomph and some kick. The "chicken" was more like tough pieces of soy. The noodles need a bit of char. *schezuan eggplant and green beans: 3.5/5: I love this dish and try to order it at every Chinese restaurant I visit even if it's not a pure vegan restaurant. The eggplants in this dish oozed out a lot of oil which wasn't very pleasant. The overall dish lacked a bit of flavor as well. Green beans lacked a crunch. Rounding off to 4 as the place seems to be run with a lot of love by an old couple.
Mountain View only has one fully vegan restaurant and this is a great one to represent for the veg heads out there. Run by a small family, we felt right at home with their service and great food. We ordered three entrees and some brown rice on the side to share. Each dish was about $16 so average pricing for the area. The Basil Tempura was highly recommended and we did enjoy the spices they used for the dish. I thought it would be a bit crispier given that it's tempura but they do add on a light sauce, making it more of a stir-fry consistency. We also tried their Dry Braised String Beans with Soy Chicken and this was another standout. Like the previous dish, they do go a bit heavier on the sauce than I'd imagine so it's not a fully dry stir-fried dish, but a great one nonetheless. My favorite dish was their veggie ribs which was essentially their take on beef and broccoli. Their use of mushrooms here as the beef was ingenious and the meaty texture of it made it taste very realistic. Thanks Garden Fresh for being the lone fully vegan restaurant in the area. You're definitely a keeper.
Not a vegan, this was the first time I tried vegan Chinese food and was quite surprised. They make lots of meat dishes but with imitation meat. The duck was very realistic in terms of texture and looks. The tempura was very tasty and the noodles were delicious. A bit more expensive than regular Chinese food, but not excessively. I'd come back to try more dishes. They have lower prices on many of the dishes during lunch time.
We didn't order a lot of items here, however we found that the quality between dishes tended to vary from good to amazing. The scallion pancakes are amazing, definitely get those. The tofu skin fried rice and buns we're good, but not great. The pepper sauce on the table was outstanding. I normally don't like spicy sauces and I cannot tolerate high levels of spice either. However, the peppers roasted in here were so flavorful without being hot - fantastic. They also work well with the soy sauce. I think might go here again just to try that sauce on other items.
My wife wanted us to check this place our and although I am far from vegetarian we went to eat here. I was pleasantly surprised to find a big choice of good quality food and demi-meat dishes. Even the kids found things they liked. The spicy tofu was good, the dumplings were just ok. The roles were very good.
Wanted to try this place out seeing the good reviews but found this disgusting big worm in my Tofu take out today.Threw away the rest of the items as couldn’t trust them. Horrible hygiene standards. Never coming back. I hope they take hygiene and food quality standards seriously as it’s a big risk to a customer’s health and safety.
