Amazing cocktails, absolutely stunning food...the chicken strips are a thing of dreams!!! I'm sad that they will be 2 and a half hours away when we go home 😭 the staff are lovely and actually have a chat with you 🥰 love it and we will be back in the new year!

Love Moon and Sixpence and now its under new management deserves a new review. Went over the Steampunk weekend a few weeks ago now and had booked for early dinner. Great food Very lovely cocktails the Black Jack watch out for that very strong 😁😁 Staff are lovely and knowledgeable and attentive. Good atmosphere and a warm welcome Will deff visit again.

Both the cocktail mocktail and the food are of very high quality. It is a bar and restaurant with no seating. As long as there is a table, you can sit down freely. In terms of food, a special recommendation is the octopus seafood with slow-cooked pork. The pork is full of fragrance and has a very good texture. The octopus is cooked to perfection and very spicy. All the alcoholic drinks are very good in terms of taste and taste. It is suitable for everyone to come here to chat with friends and enjoy a wonderful afternoon.

Lovely place to watch the world go by. Plenty of choice of spirits and cocktails and a really good pint of Guinness too. We will be back on our next visit to Whitby

Sat outside and enjoyed a lovely mocktail. Spotted this place on our trip last year but it was always so busy which was a good sign. We managed to get a table outside one evening to enjoy a drink. I had the French martini mocktail which was lovely. My partner had the spicy watermelon margarita which well…wow! Look at the photo of it. Friendly staff.

Had a wonderful time celebrating a wedding. The staff were so lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. They even asked if we had a preference for the music they were playing. The food was delicious, everyone had a lovely meal and a free shot for the grooms was very kind. We will certainly come back! You made our day very special.

The food here is amazing and they are so accommodating. We had the only vegan option on the menu currently (salt and pepper mushrooms small plate) but asked if we could have the burrata salad small plate and aubergine small plate without the cheese and dairy and they happily obliged, no fuss. The cocktails are amazing too, we had the French martini mocktails

Very impressed with the food, modern cuisine, cooked very well, we had 4 different dishes and all excellent. Loveliest meal we've had for a while. Great spot right by the water too.

Great little pub. Loads of cocktail options with classic cocktails and ones with a twist. A great selection of mocktails too. The staff are always friendly and happy to see you. Great view of the Abby whilst sat outside and in one of the quieter places of Whitby so there's not loads of foot traffic going past.

Great food, spot on service and superb atmosphere. I will be visiting again next time I’m in Whitby.

The moon and sixpence was our go to cocktail/mocktail spot after dinner every night, as I don't drink alcohol it was great to find somewhere that put as much effort into the mocktails as they did the cocktails and it really showed in the taste. The staff were really friendly and it's location is fantastic right on the water. We also stopped here for lunch one day and had the chunky slow cooked beef chilli loaded fries and the cheese and bacon loaded fries which were both great. Next time I visit Whitby I'd like to eat here again for more than a light lunch as the other food looked brilliant

Booked a table for food in the evening here. We both really enjoyed the food and drinks available. The staff were really nice. Atmosphere lively without being too busy. The bar was very tastefully decorated. Definitely recommend here for a nice meal or just drinks with a view too.

We have visited The Moon & Sixpence a few times now on our weekends away. We have nothing but good things to say, the food is amazing and service is second to none, the staff are very attentive. Now..... Serious note, these cocktails are very addictive and the manager who creates these delights is always welcoming. Thank you for a lovely time. Good luck with the new cocktail menu (we went goth weekend it was amazing)

As part of the marine chain we had breakfast here and the quality is second to none, local fresh ingredients cooked to order and the young gentleman who served us was so helpful and polite which is a rare these days, this was a Monday morning of the 1/10/25

What a lovely spot, walked past this place about a hundred times, had a coffee but never food. Table was lovely, staff really professional and friendly. Totally handled the drunk punters! Relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious and plenty of choice. Wine was really good too Scampi and cheese fritters for starters Mac n cheese and halloumi mains, then followed the food coma 🫣 Great night, would definitely go back and we'll worth a visit.

Amazing place. Beautiful cocktails. The manager was superb and even made us cocktails that were not on the menu!.***** (I couldn't rate the food as we didn't have any.)

A really nice restaurant on the water, mega food and good drink! The burrito was great value and fries were lovely! My partners halloumi was too big a portion for her, and on helping her finish it, was also really tasty. Friendly staff, happy to leave a tip as the restaurant girl was on her own and worked hard ensuring everyone was happy.

We only had a couple of cocktails and each was amazing. I wish I had asked for the Lemon drop recipe. Staff really friendly and really reasonable priced considering the quality.

Great breakfast and lovely coffee. We visit whitby every year and this is the first time we’ve been into this place. Staff were great and we enjoyed the breakfast (apologies for the half eaten breakfast, forgot to take the photo first!).

We were in Whitby for 2 days and came here twice. Once just for a drink and again for dinner. The cocktails were excellent and the food was delicious. Beautiful harbour views as well.

Well we've been here for a few days now .. The Moon and Sixpence was initially closed but looked really good.. as soon as it opened we went in for snacks and drinks.. and boy were we happy that we waited! The ambience is one of lovely modern relaxed cool with a great choice of gentle background music.. the best thing was talking to the girls there .. the Moon has undergone a change of management and crikey for me its the only place in Whitby to go! Without a full menu or drinks menu all the team were brilliant and helpful and making almost any drink you wanted.. the food was great as well with a limited menu but cooked really well. We went back the evening after for a meal and an evening with the team.. it was fun and cool and relaxed and considering the constraints of changing suppliers and everything the whole evening was great .. mainly because of the staff who all excelled despite the challenges. For me this is The Place it Whitby and will definitely be my usual haunt... BRILLIANT

Lovely little bar & restaurant. Food came out in good time and was all delicious. Cocktails were fantastic & fun, with lots being tongue-in-cheek celebrity-themed. Will definitely return when in Whitby again.

Popped in for a cuppa and enjoyed the view. Then again in the afternoon for a cocktail or two. Quite a busy place, with freshly made cocktails. Babies and dogs welcome.

Finally got the opportunity to try the Moon & Sixpence after many recommendations. Was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and provided an exceptional service. The food was delicious. I had the Black Pudding Hash for breakfast and the portion size was generous. Advise booking if you want to ensure seats as it can get busy. However staff do try to accommodate you if you haven't booked. Will have to come back to try the rest of the menu.

Great breakfast, looking out over the old town to the Abbey and church. The service was great the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. We booked a table for breakfast from the website and got a great table. Was a great way to start the day and later stopped in for a coffee sitting outside watching the world go by.

Went to Whitby for the pirate weekend a friend recommended that the food was always top rated at the moon & sixpence and that we should have a meal there. We were not disappointed my wife had the crab macaroni cheese and said that it was delicious, also tried a cocktail which was outstanding .Because of health problems I must not have any salt in my diet, I asked for fish and chips, the chef being made aware of my requirements made a salt free batter for my fish and then cooked my chips in salt free flavoring this was so tasty, also get a good cup of coffee here. The customer care is really awesome, a big thank you to all the friendly staff.

Popped in out of the rain. Grabbed a cuppa and some small plates. Great food. Stopped for a cocktail because it was still raining. Great for watching the world go by.

Great location and views on the harbour side. We dropped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Lovely relaxed atmosphere great service and lovely food. £30 for two meals and coffees, and plenty of food as well, so good value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit for breakfast. Sit and unwind watching the world go buy.

Easily the best cocktails in Whitby. Plenty of originals but also do the classics.

We came in for an early evening drink as it looked nice and great location and view. After sampling some cocktails and mocktails which were extremely good quality, we decided to have dinner also which was a great choice as the food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality. Staff were great and happy to bring drinks to the table. Recommend it to anyone for drinks or food.

Modern bar directly opposite the harbour so great views, especially sat outside on a lovely night. Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food but the expressio Martini and Aspall cider were great. Friendly staff.

This was always a favourite place in Whitby and we'd visit at least once every year, but on our last visit in October 2022 the service was exceptionally slow and the attention to detail just wasn't there. When our breakfasts finally arrived part of my veggie breakfast was cold whilst a friends pancakes were cold and burnt. Not the usual quality we expect from The Moon & Sixpence. The design and vibe are spot on and the staff are friendly and chilled (perhaps a little too chill based on our most recent experience?) and dining in the evening with cocktails always seems to be a smoother affair than breakfast was. The evening dinner menu is great and always has plenty to tempt, we usually go for various fish dishes (lobster mac & cheese, fish & chips etc.) Fom downstairs, there are great views over Whitby Harbour. It's still a decent spot, but let's hope that service has improved since my last visit.

Staff were lovely, it was a nice spot. The cocktails were okay - not much to the mojitos. For a cocktail bar expected a bit more. The food was good - but for the price it was a bit on the high side. However everywhere around the area the prices were high, but I understand that’s just the current economy. Would come again, but would not drink.

We managed to book a table for our group of 8 and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of seats in the front with a direct view of the sea and harbour and also a lovely big dining area upstairs. The restaurant is located perfectly on the busy promenade where it's very central but not too loud. The service was great and the food well made and tasty. Everybody had a good time!

Fabulous twilight view across the harbour. Nice drinks. Will have to go back to try the cocktails 🍸

Nice place, bit expensive and food was a bit meh. Good drinks, got a couple cocktails for £20. Food was hit and miss. Battered prawns and fried pickles were lovely. Loaded fries weren't very loaded. And the quesadilla was a bit small AND THE FILLING WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BREAD. Maybe stick to the fried food if you're going for dinner.

Delicious cocktails, mixed service. Lady who made my drinks was lovely. Other wait staff were borderline rude. Great views of the harbour and abbey.

Firstly visited this place a couple of years ago and it was excellent and couldn't fault the place. I'm aware that it is now under new ownership the experience this time round was a bit of a mixed bag. I can't fault the front of house /bar staff especially a very friendly and very professional lady called Sharn who saw to our every need and was determined to make sure we had a great experience. The issue was similar to a previous review to find the menu a bit hit and miss with no deserts available and originally we were told there was no lobster however Sharn went above and beyond and investigated the issue and after awhile and managed to source some, I would like to thank you again for this great effort ! Once we got our food it was great the lobster was dressed properly and very meaty and overall worth the wait. The starters we had the prawns and the chicken strips were delicious. The choice of beer and other drinks is also excellent. This is a place I would come back to and hope the niggles are ironed out.

Popped in for coffee after a long bus journey. Coffee was lovely but one of the bar tenders seemed to be having a bad day as she never smiled once. I asked what coffee they did and she snapped " the usual!" I settled for a flat white

Staff were obviously trying their best and were very nice but the food wasn’t much better than a wetherspoons at a higher price. Disappointing limited food menu compared to what’s online. Cocktail and drink menu were good and delivered. Should have checked the toilets before eating, rule no 1! Went to use the sanitary bin and it was full to the brim and contents dropped out.. much more than a days waste. 4 star for kind staff but the rest really let it down

We came here for lunch during a day trip to Whitby. The location is certainly amazing with great views across the bay. We also really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, which has been recently renovated and is very well designed in our view. We had ordered burgers and compared to the food we had at different places during our vacation to the UK, the food was not so great. There was nothing really bad about it, but we did not like the taste and definitely had better burgers in the UK. Since we only stayed for one day in Whitby, we cannot compare to other restaurants in the city. Our impression was, that Whitby is a very touristy place with a lot of fast food. Next time we would rather look for a restaurant outside of Whitby.

Poor experience here today. The place was pretty much empty . Ordered food for the five of us, including a toddler. It was all pretty rubbish. Beef birria tacos came with no broth as advertised , and we were told they didn’t have any , meaning they aren’t beef birria tacos then 🤣 my son’s fish and chips was rubbish. Service really strange and not particularly friendly. Also toilets dirty and front of restaurant looks really scruffy. Couldn’t be bothered saying anything as the staff all seemed happy to have their own personal chats and were very standoffish. Won’t return! Much better places in Whitby

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. The service throughout the visit was cold, distant, and largely unavailable. Rather than feeling like valued guests, we felt as though we were an inconvenience. Staff appeared disengaged and uninterested, offering little acknowledgement or interaction beyond the absolute minimum. After placing our order, we were essentially left to our own devices. There was no check-in from staff, no reassurance about timings, and no visible attentiveness to the dining room. After waiting around 30 minutes, we eventually had to flag someone down ourselves just to ask how long our food would be. This is something that should never fall on the customer to chase, particularly when a restaurant isn’t busy enough to justify such a delay. What made the experience even more frustrating was the pricing. The dishes are priced at a level that suggests a higher standard of hospitality and attention to detail, yet the service delivered fell far below that expectation. When you’re paying those kinds of prices, you expect professionalism, attentiveness, and at the very least a sense that the staff care about your experience. Instead, the entire visit felt lacklustre and poorly managed. The service lacked warmth, urgency, and basic customer care. Dining out should feel enjoyable and relaxing, but this experience was quite the opposite. Overall, it was a horrible experience that left us feeling ignored and undervalued as customers. With the level of service we received, it’s difficult to justify the prices being charged. Sadly, it’s not somewhere we would consider returning to, and I would struggle to recommend it to others.

J
Jonathan Clarke

The food was nice, but for the money it wasn't nicely presented or great value. We asked for drinks and sauce, but never got them. The staff wasn't very welcoming and the service charge was astronomical. Would not visit again...

G
Grace Phillip

Really awful cocktails, offering “classics” but specs are way off. Triple shot of lemon juice should not go in a margarita & serving a dark & stormy with ginger ale instead of ginger beer!! The staff wouldn’t try the cocktail or acknowledge it was wrong after sending back twice. One bartender was lovely, short blonde hair, the other staff member was rude & made us feel unwelcome. Did get a refund after sending 4 drinks back, highlight of the visit! Used to love coming here but will avoid from now on.
