I have lived in Williamsburg for 16 years & this is my first time visiting this restaurant. I was a little skeptical at first, because of some of the reviews I have read. Well I am glad I tried it, food & service was great! We had the crab cake appetizer, Delmonico steak, jumbo fried shrimp, and apple pie. I suggest you give them a try & hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Loved everything about our visit, starting with the amazing service from Raluca. We got the large rib eye and the Delmonico steak which we perfectly cooked and had amazing flavor. The prices are really good too. I love how it was walking distance from our hotel (Wingate) The vibe was a really vintage ish fancy restaurant which we weren’t expecting but it was amazing experience
So, after a 4 hour drive I decided I needed a steak, we don’t have this place back home so tried it. Not sure why more people don’t eat there but the steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy. Fries were hot a crisp as well and veggies seasoned with salt and pepper. If we had one in Lynchburg I’d visit it there too!
💫💫💫💫💫 The food was excellent. I loved the shrimp, my steak was oh so tender and juicy. The hot rolls, we crunchy and I had to stop myself from eating them all. Will be returning. I didnt get to try dessert. 🤗
Thank you GAYLE for great service, recommendations & conversation!!! Enjoyed the refreshing Side Salads, the Delmonico Steak cooked as ordered & the Lamb Chops rubbed with garlic and rosemary!! The Sangria was good! 🎄🎶😋
My husband and I love to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Fireside Chophouse! The food is excellent, and the service is great! I highly recommend this establishment!
the seafood combo was amazing love the chunky. crab cake n scallops. everything was amazingly n the bartender n sever was great 👍 had old fashion perfect pair to my seafood combo definitely will be back
BEST RESTURANT IN WILLIAMSBURG. Old school local resturant. Some of the waitstaff have been here over 20 years. Reminds me of the Seafood and Steak houses growing up in Virginia Beach. Prime Rib was full of flavor and tender. Crab Cake was the best I've had in a very long time. Chesapeake Bay style. It's hard to find a resturant full of tradition. I'm a trained chef and my family owned seafood resturants growing up. I am sad to see any bad reviews for this establishment. Amateurs shouldn't have the right to leave such reviews.....
The place is amazing, best food in Willy and the stuff is very friendly! They have lovely bar also and manager George makes best drinks!
This place was amazing. The steak I picked was cooked perfectly. Then I had to get the apple pie for dessert. It was home made, and done perfectly. I can not wait to visit again.
Excellent food!! Best I have had in a while. Very good prices. It's a family owned small business so there is still the warm human touch. FANTASTIC servers, really make you feel welcome.
Visiting from Philadelphia. First time here but definitely not our last!! Highly recommended. Affordable. Great staff!! Food amazing!!! I'm in love. I got engaged today and this place made this day even more amazing!! Waiters name is jacob!!! Thank you so much!! Will be back soon!!
We were here on our honeymoon, 40 years ago! Have been back numerous times over the years. Celebrated our fortieth anniversary with a romantic dinner for two. The service was friendly, informative, and efficient. And, as always, the food was spectacular!
Great place, great food, great service. Deserves to be packed every night but somehow it's not. Definitely make it a stop if you're in Williamsburg, VA
The food here was very good they had a Thanksgiving menu which was good, my hubby had turkey and dressing butternut squash and mixed vegetables. I had New York strip, baked potato and mixed vegetables.
The reviews for this place are ripping it to shreds for some reason. Went there with my family last night, we were greeted by a very friendly host at the entrance, and our waitress was very kind and attentive. I ordered the Delmonico and ordered it medium (I saw many reviews saying the food was often undercooked and I like my steaks medium-rare) but it was cooked perfectly fine. The spinach and artichoke dip was good, although I do wish it came with some more flatbread. Overall, great place, it wasn’t very busy in there, but it was very good.
Figured we try somewhere different to eat on vacation. The name caught my attention. The place wasn't to busy so what the heck. Wanted prime rib but wasn't ready yet so settled for a cheese burger. To my surprise it was amazing and huge and Great value. The best part was the guy who waited on us and his stories. Will definitely eat there again
Haven't been here for about 11 years, and only went because another restaurant didn't open until 4:30, and we wanted an early dinner. Our service was excellent. The food was good. Yes, the baked potato was a little dry. But for the price we paid, compared to other restaurants close by, with the more upscale atmosphere, absolutely will go again.
Our server Brian was extremely accommodating and pleasant. He joked with the children and his service was impeccable! The food was delicious and very satisfying. The prime rib was perfect!
Salmon was grilled perfectly with great seasoning's. Walter the server was fantastic helping me to feel welcomed and appreciated for dining at Fireside. Perhaps one of the greatest secrets in Williamsburg for a quality dining experience at a reasonable price. Definitely plan to return again.
Read the good and bad reviews about the prime rib, potatoes. More of a ribeye guy myself, but ordered the prime rib w baked potato to decide for myself. I thought it was great, as good as I’ve had anywhere. Calamari cooked nicely with great flavor, sauce served with it was tasty but mild - perfect for some but I like a little more spicy. Ate at bar, fully stocked and comfortable w nice atmosphere. George, the manager was great, no food delays. Saw nothing of the issues outlined in the poor reviews.
We are here for vacation and tried this after a long day of traveling. Everything was amazing!!! The atmosphere is fantastic and service was the best. Teo was our waiter and was very attentive and friendly too. Our boys raved about the rolls being the best and they are amazing but don't let that fool you, our steaks were amazing and perfectly cooked! Would come back over and over. Check it out.
Certainly not what I expected for the name. But upon arrival I thought that we were going to be asked to put on a dinner jacket. The atmosphere was a bit dated but it was quiet compared to every other restaurant we'd been in this week. The crab cake was quite good and the salmon was decent. Not many choices for sides and the menu is small. They have bottled beer and wine. It was worth the visit and probably the best priced meal out we've had. Though we didn't get the most expensive items on the menu either.
GET.... hear me... GET the crab cakes as an appetizer.... mouth is craving one or 10 now, just writing this. Great steaks and salmon, the waiter was very old school-ish. The rolls were amazing. Overall, it was a great little place to eat. Inside is not what you are thinking from the outside view.
We had a pleasant surprise at this restaurant. We've been to Williamsburg many times but never tried this place. The prices were reasonable, and the service was top notch from Francine. The food was okay, average really, but not too bad.
We were a little nervous after seeing some of the reviews panning this place, but we were hungry and a couple other places we checked had long waits so we gave it a shot. So glad we took a chance. It’s definitely a solid choice for dinner. My husband had the prime rib and I had the mixed seafood. It was pretty good. Best we ever had? No, but it was good and the drinks were good.
Formal atmosphere. Very good food and service. Formal dress not required but the colonial interior feels formal. My steak was excellent and cooked perfectly. My wife got crab cakes which were spiced very nicely and very little filler.
I came during the off-season. Steak was great. The rest needed work. The bartender George was a great guy. I highly recommend it. I would hope they reach out to the military facilities and market so they get more business in the off-season.
Pretty decent. We've lived in Williamsburg area for a while now, and thought we would check this place out since a lot of the other steakhouses we frequent were all booked up. It was decent. Pleasant staff and service. Son had the porterhouse and I had the large prime rib. Glad we came, and prices were pretty fair. Only critique would be the service was a little slow and could be more responsive to refills on our drinks and checking back. The gentleman was sort of quiet too, so hard to know what he was saying sometimes. But very polite and kind when he was present.
Service would have been a 5 star EXCEPT for a weird thing. We all ordered the large Prime Rib, 2 orders came out as the "Regular" size. The waiter was very attentive but just minutes after receiving the main course and we literally were still cutting up our meat when the waiter came by and started asking if we wanted to go / leftover boxes. We hadn't even started eating. It's not like they were busy, there was one other table occupied by 2 people and they had 4 waiters working.
Not sure why open table said they were full up so call the restaurant. All the food was great and fresh. Super service. Clean nice decor. Nice music playing in background.
PEOPLE PLEASE TRUST YOUR GUT. THE PARKING LOT WAS EMPTY. IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. EVERY GREAT FOOD PLACE IS PACKED WITH A WAIT TIME. With that being said, the atmosphere was perfect 👌. When I walked in, I thought it was going to be expensive because of how nice it looked. It was rather fairly priced, but the food all tasted the same. My whole plate tasted like rosemary and lemon. Crab cakes tasted like mustard, and the seafood was undercooked and bland. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly, but the flavor was not there. Lemon and rosemary were the flavors in all of my food.
The service was great, has old steak house vibe. Food was OK, but nothing to write home about. The prices are very fair!
Nothing was overly wrong, the food was okay but not necessarily worth the price charged. The wait staff was very attentive but at the same time it felt like they didn't want us to hang around after finishing. It was an interesting experience for teenager to see a different interpretation of steakhouse, as she was expecting something more like one of the bigger chain steakhouses.
Should have heeded your 3.4 stars!. I'm Or being that generous. It was our last night of vacation in Williamsburg but our least favorite meal. The best thing about our meals were the bread and onion straws. My husband's scallops were actually good but my BILs steak ordered medium rare had zero pink. The steak in my steak salad was gray and fatty and chewy.
Gordon Ramsey save this restaurant! Beautiful atmosphere. Service was ok. The food was terrible. And I hate to say this about any place. I realize how it hurts a place. But, this was the worst experience I've had in a long while. The NY Strip was so tough, the steak knife wouldn't cut it. The fork would barely stab it. The baked potato had been sitting under the heat lamp for some time. Also, couldn't eat it. The prime rib had absolutely no flavor. Should have known by the few cars there. No reason for such a poor quality in a beautiful establishment.
I don't understand why somebody would take a $40 piece of Delmonico and soak it down in butter but yet they'll bring you a baked potato with no butter Caesar salad taste it like mayonnaise do not get the add-on of shrimp you get three pieces for $14 spring roll appetizer Stone Cold worst steak I have ever had and I'm almost 60 years old and I've ate a lot of steak
The prime rib was too tough to cut with the knife provided. Ate less than half of both my wife’s steak and my prime rib. No one even asked us how our dinners were even though the manager and the server seemed to comment to each other about the amount of food left on our plates. We’ll never go back. Also server seemed like he didn’t want to do his job.
Food was awful, steaks weren’t cooked even close to correctly, low quality meat, salty vegetables, rolls were good when warm but became rocks very fast. My wife sent her filet back because it was severely undercooked, it came back 5 minutes later still uncooked. Service lacked, first and last time. I would even say Longhorn was better.
This restaurant received one star because I was happy to have food to bring home to my dogs. The porterhouse steak I ordered came out the first time well done when in fact I had ordered medium. After arguing with the waitress over the temperature of the meat she took it from me and returned with a new steak. The new steak had no flavor and tasted as if it was boiled. The temperature of the steak was inconsistent, as were the other two steaks my party had ordered. For an establishment to advertise as a "upscale restaurant that serves fine cuts of aged beef" this must be the opinion of the owner and not the patrons. I would have expected much more for a $32 dollar steak. I also ordered shrimp to go with my steak ($20 ). That tasted boiled as well and had next to no seasoning. I've dined in many establishments and this by far was the worst food I've ever had. Again, this place received one star because my two dogs were happy to have a nice boiled steak to eat for breakfast the next day.
Came to eat here after a long day of traveling with my family. It looks fancy but it’s not very fancy at all. Our server was an older gentleman that barely spoke to us the whole time. He was awkward and stood over us while we ate. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and the chips it came with were nacho chips you get at a high school football game..and they were stale. My crab cake sandwich was decent but my “red skin potatoes” were instant mashed potatoes. My families steak tasted microwaved. Overall terrible experience do not waste your money here!
Me and my family came here for dinner and we were very excited to order. How disappointing. I ordered the filet mignon with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and I believe I could have cooked better and I never cook. My steak was supposed to be medium rare and came back almost raw. We sent the same piece of steak back to get it cooked and it was still raw in a few spots. The creamed spinach was watered down and embarassing.
The food was excellent value for the money outstanding. My steak was perfect excellent sides. The thing that rubbed me the wrong way was I could not understand anything. The server was saying, and then, as i'm paying the bill, he's standing over me as i'm counting out.My money like i'm a common criminal. That's gonna stiff him. That was extremely rude. And I will think twice before I go back there again.... Like an idiot I went back there again for thanksgiving. The worst service, the worst food. The server was extremely racist, as my family is latino. The way she acted was despicable saying she knows everyone in williamsburg, she's never seen us before. That was just part of her comments that ticked me off.I will never go back there again. The worst food, the worst service. This restaurant sucks complaining about giving us containers for our to go stuff.
The price was crazy. The food was cheap. The steaks and crab cakes were raw. The service was the only good thing. I think the reason we got our food so quickly was because it wasn't cooked
We were here on a Sunday. Pulled into the empty parking lot. I figured it was because it was about 430 and the place didn’t open until 4. My party ordered the crab cakes. I asked the waitress what she would recommend and she said the salmon so I figured it was safe. Also ordered a crab cake. Asked her how it’s cooked best and she said broiled was best. Again figured it was safe. My salmon came out and it was clear it was a vaccum sealed frozen type. Fresh salmon filet is flaky. This was not. Vegetables were zucchini and carrot medley. Looked like a frozen medley from a steam in a bag. It was over salted. The crab cake was mushy. But looked better than the deep fried crab cakes on the plates of my party. I don’t know who was cooking in the kitchen that day but they should do something different for a job. We also ordered Sangria. Was told that it was homemade. That was a joke. I put it on the table next to me. The other glasses on my table remained full. No one drank it. Mashed potatoes were lukewarm. Worst 78 bucks I spent in a long time for two meals. The best thing was the clean bathrooms. We left and only saw out of state license plates in the parking lot. It’s clear that locals don’t frequent here.
Where do I even begin with Fireside Chophouse? Me and my mom were here in Williamsburg visiting for a few days, and we wanted to try a restaurant that we've never had before. We ended up coming to Fireside Chophouse right next to our hotel that we were staying in. Just by looking at the parking lot, I was feeling kinda sketchy about this place. When we went inside, the place was so empty we thought that the place was closed. However, they were open, and we got seated into the establishment. The first red flag was when me and my mom ordered our drinks, and it was clear to us that the cups were not clean. I initially ordered the baby back ribs with a side of fries, but the man who took my order said the ribs would take a long time. So, I ordered the pork chops instead. My mom, on the other hand, ordered the seafood plate (grilled flounder, 3 shrimp, and crab cakes) with mashed potatoes. Now, the real disappointment started to set in, ladies and gentlemen. The pork chops were so tough that it was hard for me to even cut through them, and what's worse is that they were just so bland! It felt like I was eating through a leather boot! No seasoning, no love, no effort, and that's just sad to me! The fries were crispy, but they didn't have any kind of seasoning, salt, or pepper. My mother's food was not any better. The flounder was so bland that she didn't even want to finish it. The only decent thing that she had on her plate was the crab cakes. The fact that this restaurant charged $30 a plate and then you don't even get what you paid for is absolute highway robbery! And you wonder why y'all don't have any of the locals dining at this establishment. Safe to say, I will never be back here ever again after the experience me and my mother had today.
Overpriced. Service was bad. The waiter kept passing us . Food was cold. Was the worst I ever had and it was Thanksgiving.
Don't waste your time. I don't care what the previous reviews say. Not only was the food missing flavor but even the drinks were missing flavor. No carbonation at all. The water glass was bigger than the soda glass. Make it make sense. The free bread don't even come to the table until you place an entree order. When they say mixed veggies they really mean cold carrots and a taste of zucchini. My baked potato was burnt with a raw, I mean fried seafood platter. My wife told me her eye started itching after attempting to eat the overcooked steak salad. Do yourself a favor and keep driving.
Was told the prime rib was the specialty so I ordered it MR with a small salad. It came back with a junior cut and only a fifty cent center pink. The rest was well done. My wife said the mashed potatoes was instant. I tried to contact them on the website without having to go here. McDonald’s would be better choice . I’m am insulted they would think this is a restaurant.
Nice place albeit outdated decor. The service is friendly and attentive, however food is the reason one goes out to eat and it is flavorless here. I hate to give bad reviews but this is an honest assessment. Seems like they have cheap quality food without much effort into it's preparation. Save some money, skip this place and go to Golden corral.
