Opinions de Tonic Seafood and Steak Wilmington
Definitely a first class experience. Our service was exceptional, the food was great and the atmosphere was perfect. We went there before a show at the Playhouse because it was really close and the menu looked interesting. We were seated quickly and our drink order was in as soon as we sat down. I ordered the duck medium rare and my girlfriend ordered the 14 oz ribeye. The food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly. We will most definitely be going back.
The best bartender at Tonic — Erin! I have to give a huge shoutout to Erin, hands down the best bartender at Tonic. Every time I come in, she remembers my order, greets me with a genuine smile, and somehow manages to juggle a packed bar while still giving everyone personal attention. Her drinks are always perfectly made, and she has this effortless way of making the whole vibe feel warm, fun, and inviting. Erin is the reason I keep coming back — she’s professional, personable, and truly amazing at what she does. If you’re at Tonic, do yourself a favor and sit at her bar. You won’t regret it!
Alright, get ready for a review that'll make your mouth water and your fingers itch to make a reservation! Listen up, fellow foodies and romance seekers! My recent expedition to Tonic Seafood & Steak in Wilmington was nothing short of spectacular. Picture this: a balmy evening, stars peeking out, and my amazing girlfriend by my side as we dined al fresco in an atmosphere that whispered sweet nothings. Let's talk food, shall we? I dove headfirst into the duck, and oh boy, the flavor was an absolute symphony! My girlfriend, meanwhile, was in pure bliss with her crab cake. Seriously, every bite was a testament to culinary artistry. And the drinks? Forget about it! They were so good, they practically danced on our tongues. Now, let's give a standing ovation to the service. Our waiter was a true maestro! Not only was he a wizard with the extensive whiskey, bourbon, and scotch selections, but he even concocted a custom cocktail for my girlfriend that was spot-on! Talk about going the extra mile! We kicked things off with the calamari and beef short rib egg rolls – a delightful duet of textures and tastes that set the stage for the main event. Yes, it's a tad on the pricier side, but trust me on this one, every single penny was an investment in an unforgettable experience. Fast forward, and I've already played restaurant matchmaker, recommending Tonic to one of my best friends. Guess what? They were absolutely blown away and showered me with gratitude for the tip! So, if you're looking for a top-notch dining experience in Wilmington, a place that nails the food, the drinks, the service, and sets the perfect romantic mood, then Tonic Seafood & Steak is your spot. Trust me, your taste buds (and your date!) will thank you. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit!
Our experience was great. The food was amazing (rainbow trout), the environment is beautiful and the service was top notch. We will definitely be back. Our server Alex K was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu/specials. THIS PLACE IS A GEM!
Amazing! I wish we took more pictures, but everything was so good. Steak, crab, bread, all apps..super delicious! Service was also very friendly and professional. We loved our experience!
The service I received while dining here was truly fantastic. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted very warmly by the hostess. My servers name was Angelica, and she was friendly and very attentive throughout the whole meal. As for the food and drinks, everything was superb. I ordered the french onion soup and the roasted boneless 1/2 chicken, and both items were very flavorful and delicious. My meal also came out super fast in spite of them being really busy. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a great ambiance, and they have a great food and drink menu at reasonable prices. After reading other reviews, I could see why this place is so popular. I will definitely make it a point to dine here again the next time I visit the area.
In a city where restaurants come and go, Tonic (formerly Deep Blue) maintains the exact mix of food, environment and service to beat the odds! The food is exquisite and the environment is warm, upscale and inviting. The service brings everything together! Our server, Sky explained each dish perfectly and quite impressively! Tonic, formerly Deep Blue, remains the King of Wilmington restaurants! 6 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
TOP SHELF FOOD AND DRINK ....... the best ! I cannot stress enough that the steak I had was perfectly cooked to my request and all thr others there also at their own tastes too. Amazing food and very fancy yet younxan leave with a full stomach too. The drinks are great and the environment in there is high class. The dessert I had after the main coarse was amazing. It was worth the trip from PA to eat there.
We decided to check out Tonic after seeing the Brandywine restaurant week advertisement. We came here on the first day of Brandywine restaurant week, but they did not seem to offer restaurant week menu to us. Since their usual menu looked interesting, we decided not to pester them about it. We got the meat and cheese board, seafood salad, and fillet. We enjoyed everything we ordered and would recommend those. The sticky toffee pudding was okay! Too sweet for my personal taste.
An enjoyable evening with family! Our first time at Tonic, the servers were fabulous! Teddy was our waiter and he was awesome; attentive n fun! Now onto the food n drinks the wine selections n beer were delicious, the appetizers were good , the poter house steak was cooked to perfection, the seafood risotto was fresh n delicious. Exceptional experience! But the company and laughs were the cherry ontop.
FOOD Not the best bone on ribeye that I've ever had, but one of the best. The compound butter added that extra flavor. My wife had the filet which was fork tender! Perfect. Baked potato done nicely and the sautéed spinach was seasoned perfectly. The Jalapeno Popper Deviled Eggs were missing the spice I was expecting, but tasty overall. The chopped wedge was excellent as well. Nice interpretation of the wedge salad and the lettuce was as fresh as any other had in the past. We tried the homemade butter pecan ice cream. Super creamy. Hit the spot. Nice beer and wine selection... though my wife favored the Stateside Mule which was one of the best she's had. SERVICE Erin was great. Upbeat, friendly, efficient and always smiling! Our dinner was truly enhanced because of her service. Looking around, the other servers we're present, but she truly enjoyed what she was doing. Thank you again Erin! There were a couple of food handlers as well which were very pleasant. Dropping off party room meal and telling you to enjoy and removing plates without being intrusive is always a plus. ATMOSPHERE This sounds like an HGTV plug, but Tonic has nice curb appeal. Nestled between a bunch of high rises and office buildings, it stood out as a higher end Steakhouse. Actual gas lanterns out front, outdoor seating which we look forward to when the weather breaks, and it was complimented, by Hotel DuPont right down the road. Inside there were array of seats including the bar, high tops, open seating and semi booths. We were fairly close to a table behind us, but did not feel closed in. Modern appearing without being too modern if that makes sense.
I really like delivering to this venue. The staff is very attentive and they make it very convenient to deliver to the front entrance. The space is perfect for a large or small party. I am a balloon decorator and I had to make sure I was prepared for the delivery as we were advised we had to start at 4 pm for a 6pm party. We were done in time . Check out the pictures. 😊❤️🎈🎈
Service is always great and food is delicious. Solid place. This time had the clam chowder, ribeye, loaded baked potato, sauteed spinach, mushrooms and asparagus. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Definitely had a cocktail and two types of wine, all of them good. On other visits have had the burger and fresh cut fries (my fave), seafood salad which is amazing, the deviled eggs, but the item that surprised me the most and an item I don't normally get out is the hummus, it's delicious. Also hosted a surprise birthday here bc the food is so good but the coordinator was amazing, staff was impeccable and everything turned out exactly how I wanted.
The food we had was amazing. The short rib was a must try! Remember that moment in Ratatouille where the food critic grabs the napkin? Yes, we had that moment! The mixologist though made memorable drinks! The espresso martinis are delightful! Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and there was a great band that night!
Can't really comment on the restaurant itself. Went to a birthday party in the Jupiter room. It was spacious, nicely decorated, clean, and the food was delicious. The artichoke dip was my favorite. The drinks were reasonably priced as well.
My husband and I came here last night for the first time. My husband ordered the steak rib eye and I had the fish special, forgot the type it was, with asparagus. Our waitress, who was very nice and helpful, suggested I get the fish special. So, I said okay I will give something different a try. Omg! It was sooooo gooodd! lol just want to shout out to my waitress for suggesting the special. I also ordered a dirty martini which was lovely as well.
I walked in after a long day traveling just in time to participate in Happy Hour. Which means I got to sample several "small" plates at the Happy Hour prices ($4 off each). I sat at a high top in the bar area as I brought my laptop to get caught up on some work and knew I would be hanging out awhile. The bartender / waiter was very helpful answering questions and making recommendations. I went with the crispy brussel sprouts, short rib egg rolls, and tuna poke nachos. Loved the brussels and egg rolls! The tuna poke nachos were good but not my fave compared to other places where I have had similar dishes - could be that the pickled onion wasn't quite pickled enough for my liking as I don't care for raw onions. I hung out, ate, had a few drinks, and later dessert. I will definitely be adding this as a fav stop when I'm in Wilmington. Next time I will look for6to trying a steak.
Had the best shrimp ever Erin was great 😊
This place is highly recommended. Everything from the service, drinks, and food were impeccable. The bison braised short ribs were so delicious and tender. The crab cakes were mostly crab meat with barely any filler. The house made ceasar dressing was different but very good. French onion soup tasted a little burnt for my liking. I would tell anyone to go and try their food.
It was a pleasure meeting Mike at Tonic. The food, ambiance, and menu was great. I wish we had one in Columbus Ohio. Great drink menu also. I highly recommend this place. See you all when we come back.
It was a delightful surprise! Drinks were perfect! Tuna tartar and crispy Brussel sprouts were delicious! The lamb was amazing and desert rounded out a perfect meal! Service was friendly and on top of things! We also had a beautiful soulful voice serenading us during dinner! Definitely try this place!
Great drinks, amazing food, and fantastic service. Our server Teddy was the best at recommendations. Vegan friendly as well. I had the chickpea cakes and they were delicious.
This is an AUTHENTIC review. I booked a semi private party there for my birthday with 23 guest. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere was PERFECT. They treated me and my guest so well. The food was so good and it was just an amazing evening. I've been referring ppl to Tonic every since.
We shared Easter brunch here this morning, and goodness, it was delicious! It was our first time at Tonic, and we were not disappointed! We greatly enjoyed our starter of Tuna Tartare (the best one we’ve ever had), followed by a Mushroom, Kale, and Truffle Omelet and Turkish Eggs (topped with the most delightful combination of spices and the freshest herbs we’ve ever tasted)! The drinks were delicious as well. We tried the Juniper, as well as mimosas (traditional orange, and with pineapple/grapefruit juice). Our main dishes were just $17 each, which is a steal compared to the $75 Easter Brunch occurring at a certain restaurant just across the street, and I would wager that the quality at Tonic was just as good if not better!
The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. I recommend trying the seafood tower and the coffee moose for dessert. Everything came out fresh and in a timely manner.
Erin is an amazing bartender! She is very knowledgeable about the menu and always makes excellent recommendations on what foods and drinks to try. On my girlfriend’s birthday, she recommended that we try the crème brûlée (which turned out to be great) and then she surprised the both of us when she brought it out with a sparkler and wished my girlfriend a happy birthday. We really appreciated the extra effort and will definitely be making a return, highly recommend Erin!
Mike B is an exceptional server. He is friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, quick and a bit sarcastic in the best way possible (but also knows how to read the room as to whether he turns on the sarcasm). We always dine there for lunch as a group and Mike has always made our experience so much more fun. We always ask to sit in his section!
The server named Erin has the most unmatched customer service i have ever experienced. Not only was she helpful and quick with my requests I was in the mood for some desert and didn’t really know what I wanted. She recommended me the sticky toffee pudding and it was probably the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted.
When I came in, was served by Erin at the bar. She was so friendly and wonderful the entire time! She made me a drink that I LOVED and it was so pretty. She was fast and made great menu recommendations! 10/10 WILL return just to see her again!
CJ was a great bartender. He handled our private party. The food was just okay. Best thing on my plate was the mashed potatoes with that lemon sauce. That was really good
Top notch food and atmosphere. Our server was excellent, kudos to Chloe. Great experience and convenient to The Playhouse.
We made a 6:15 reservation for Valentine's Day. It was busy, but not overwhelming. And it pretty quiet for being a fully booked restaurant. I loved the ambiance arms the lightly. It wasn't too dim that you couldn't see, but enough to be romantic. We only had to wait a minute to be taken to our table. Our server CJ was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We ordered drinks which came out quickly and were delicious. I had an espresso martini ale my husband had the lambrusco smash. We both got the crab bisque, such was a little on the non-traditonal side, but still was delicious. Shortly after that our meals came out. I ordered the Chefs cut steak which was a Hanger steak with chimichurri served with roasted fingerling potatoes. My husband ordered the King Cut Ribeye with bourbon cream sauce and chili parmesan fries. Everything was amazing and service was very speedy. A little too speedy for a date night. We wanted to savor our time there and ordered a couple more drinks and CJ said he didn't mind that we stayed a little longer. We used an app called InKind to pay for our meal and received a $30 off coupon, and then also received a credit to use in the future at another place. There were so many delicious things to choose from on the menu and I cannot wait to go here again. I highly recommend this place.
My fiancé and I had the pleasure of having Alex K as our server last week. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and even recommended some dishes based on our dietary restrictions. While the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant was obviously quite wonderful, our server really made the entire experience unforgettable. We will definitely be returning very soon!
I recently attended a work event at Tonic and had an outstanding experience. Our bartender, Bree, was phenomenal—attentive, friendly, and incredibly skilled at her craft. Even with a busy crowd, she remained quick and consistent, making sure everyone was well taken care of throughout the evening. The food was delicious as well, which made for a perfect combination. I'd definitely return for both the drinks and the atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Have been meaning to come here for a while, and I'm so glad I finally did! Alex made our evening so enjoyable with excellent service and great recommendations. Can't wait to come back, and will definitely ask for Alex!
I just have to say that Mike Z should get a Michelin star for service. He blew us away with his kind, helpful, thoughtful attitude toward our dining experience. My mother and I felt so taken care of as he considered everything! From thinking ahead to perfect timing to checking all the boxes that a server in the hospitality industry is required to—he went above above & BEYOND. He could and should write a book on servant leadership. Thank you, Mike Z! You made our evening so special and memorable.
My girlfriend and I attended her company event here last night and everything was fantastic, but the real standout was Bree behind the bar. Hands-down some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had—perfectly balanced and made with serious skill. Bree was an absolute pro: fast, friendly, and never missed a beat. Easily the highlight of the night. Can’t wait for the next excuse to come back!
3 of us sat at the bar for some late night drinks. Atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. Short rib eggrolls were delicious. Live singer who was great! Bree made the best drinks. She added RumChata to my espresso martini which is a game changer! My first time there and I will be back and asking for Bree!
I'm actually pretty blown away by how consistently excellent the food is here. I'm pretty judgmental when it comes to restaurants and Tonic meets, or exceeds, my expectations every single time. And the service is always relaxed and friendly. Just a really great place, can't recommend enough. They must have some real talent back in that kitchen
I've been here before, but I recently went back to see if there was a change. I'm not sure if I will be coming back again. I wasn't crazy about the drinks I got or the selections. The appetizers were just okay, and so was the Fillet steak. The presentation was not so good. Wasn't blown away. For the price of the bill, I wasn't satisfied. The atmosphere for a Friday night was very quiet. Service was very good, tho.
Went here for dinner during happy hour and had a great time! We ordered the brussels sprouts, fried calamari, and wings, all were tasty and hit the spot. Fun atmosphere, good deals on drinks, and good food. Would definitely go again!
Enjoyed our Easter Sunday visit! Great modern decor with a laid back setting. I appreciate a beautiful plating and display of my food and Tonic did not disappoint. We enjoyed our steak and salad...and rave reviews for the clams. The strawberry margarita I ordered was fantastic too!! We'll definitely be back.
We're from NJ, where there are more restaurants than one could imagine. High end, low end and in between, so after reading all of the reviews for this place, the bar was set pretty high. We had no reservation so we took a seat at the bar for only about 5 minutes. The hostess was very sweet and gracious. We both wanted steak. I had the 8z filet, he had the ribeye. Our meals were amazing! Cutting into the steak was like slicing butter! Cooked to perfection! I rarely finish my entire meal but this one, I literally finished every bite. The place was an open atmosphere. Bar on one end, dining on the other. There was a band in the bar area that set up to play. Great music and singer. Far enough away that we could still have a conversation without raising our voices, yet loud enough that we could enjoy it. There was nothing cozy or romantic about the atmosphere but it was a nice place. If we came to town again, this could definitely be "our spot".
Food was good , service was great. Goat cheese was great and so were the short rib spring rolls. French onion soup was good. We got the lamb rack and the chef’s special of soft crab. I’ld recommend the lamb. Italian cosmo was definitely refreshing !
Great ambiance! Inside and out. The waitress wasn't the best, but we didnt let it ruin our date night. The food was better than the drinks, and the short rib egg rolls were really good!
A lively place, especially at night, when the restaurant becomes flooded with blue and purple lights, and live music fills the air. It is actually possible to eat somewhat cheaply here, but doing so transgresses against the general atmosphere here. This isn't a place to come if you only want a quick bite. This is a place to go if you have a large party, and you're all they're enjoying yourself over a large, somewhat expensive meal, or else you want to enjoy a vast variety of wines and other varieties of alcohol, whether alone or with a large, jovial party. You don't have to be rich to go here. But your experience will probably be best if you are not constantly concerned about how much you're spending. I wouldn't say the place is quite to my taste, but that is a me thing. How much you enjoy this place very much will depend on what kind of mood you're in, whether you're alone or in a group, and how much money you're willing to spend.
Great spot for dinner for either a work meeting or personal. Staff was very friendly, we had some questions about the area and our waitress was very knowledgeable of Wilmington. The food was very good, although the crab cakes and potatoes were on the salty side. The manhattan special was very tasty. Seafood tower was delicious.
Very nice atmosphere...my friends and I came for lunch. The clan chowder was good. My friends who had burgers enjoyed them. The chicken tacos were not good (no flavor).
Nice place for happy hour, dinner date or night out. The drinks were great, food wasn't too bad & the service was good. They had a live band when we were there(I think they doing it from October to December or maybe it's something they do every month) Check it out
I had high expectations after viewing the menu and reviews. I was so excited to come to Tonic. Unfortunately, I left disapointed in the expirience. The cuts of meat were good quality however, the preparation was incredibly simple. It seemed salt and pepper didn't exist there, the sauces were basic choices and an up charge. While good it left alot to be desired. Their short ribs were tender fall off the bone juicy but again nothing spectacular. The service, made the expirience unfortunate. When the server didn't know an answer she brought the wine bottle out saying can you figure it out, because i can't. When asked for a lemon twist for espresso the server actually laughed and when she came back she stated that "oh, it apparently is a thing and it's just me who thinks its wierd". While the girl admitted she was new and was very very nice and served well. It did not help the expirience in anyway. The best part of the meal was the Creme brulee. The execution of this dish was incredible. A creamy melt in your mouth custard with the perfect amount of carmelized sugar. All in all I would return for the bar scene and snacks(HIGHLY reccomend the short rib eggrolls) but never dine in.
