The server was expedient and professional. The chicken fried steak dinner was exceptionally cooked to perfection.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Good portions of very tasty food. I plan to go there if I am in the area again.
Can’t say enough good things about this place! The staff obviously enjoys working here. They laugh and talk with each other and customers. Our server Ernie was great. Food is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the biscuits! Be sure to bring your appetite, they serve big portions. Of course, they also provide to go boxes. Best diner I’ve eaten at.
Review from I. & W. Torres I would like to express my deepest gratitude and admiration for the exceptional team at Black Bear Diner in Woodland—especially two extraordinary servers, Ernesto and Joaquin, whose service goes far beyond expectations. Ernesto is truly one of a kind. He is consistently kind, friendly, humorous, gentle, and deeply respectful. His joyful personality, combined with his attentiveness to detail, presence, taste, and the quality of every dish served, makes every visit unforgettable. Ernesto’s honesty, empathy, and genuine concern for each guest’s day and well-being create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth. There is simply no place in California where a server can match the outstanding level of care and excellence that Ernesto brings to the dining experience. Because of him, my husband and I always look forward to our meals at Black Bear—it’s an experience we truly treasure. Joaquin also deserves high praise. He is humble, compassionate, generous, and sincerely considerate. His humane and modest nature, along with his courteous and pleasant demeanor, makes every interaction easy and enjoyable. Joaquin has a gift for connecting with people. Whether a guest is a frequent visitor or stepping through the door for the first time, he ensures they feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. His attention to the needs of every customer, paired with consistently superb service, guarantees an excellent dining experience. It is important to mention that the entire staff at this Woodland location is exceptional. Each server demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction, treating every guest as the top priority. Their teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality make this restaurant truly stand out. To the incredible employees of Black Bear Diner in Woodland—thank you. Your dedication, warmth, and remarkable service deserve recognition and appreciation. You have created a place where people not only enjoy delicious meals but also feel genuinely cared for. My sincere gratitude goes out to every one of you. Again, thank you SO much for all our wonderful experiences. Irma & Wally Torres
I had the Lil' Volcano and it was hot and delicious. I also ordered an English muffin, but it was barely toasted and I didn't enjoy it, didn't finish it. Otherwise the service was great and friendly. Highly recommend this place.
My husband and I go to this Black Bear location frequently. The service we receive is always great. This time Tammy served us and she was friendly, attentive, efficient, courteous, and helpful. She fully responded to our needs and provided us a superb dining experience! Would highly recommend!!
Amanda made a great experience excellent. Greeted us with an infectious smile and great energy. Long flight from Florida and the Bacon cheddar burger was the ticket, they added a fried Egg per my request and was nothing short of perfect. Dad had the fish and chips, overall awsome experience. Amanda did her best to upsale the desert but my meal left no space.

Patty melt was cooked to specifications - I usually have to send items back or just take it home and cook it to my liking. Other orders were also made following special requests. And server was amazing about those requests, and also providing suggestions. I wish I could remember her name - it's was Wed 28Jan2026 around 3pm. She provided great, friendly service.
Our food was a little overcooked. We got each of the eggs Benedict (eggs were hard boiled) and the steak and eggs breakfast (the steak was ordered medium rare, but came out medium well.) Our server was great though, so vibrant. And their hand-squeezed orange juice in their mimosas is amazing
I've been to Black Bear before but not to this one. The only downside was that there was not a lot of parking. The food was good. Our server was very nice and on it. My teenage son received refills on his drink before he could request them. Of course the portions are large and the same goes for the kid's menu. Everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves and everyone knew everyone. And even if you didn't know anyone, they still made you comfortable. Was not disappointed and was happy that the same service and quality of food I receive at the Black Bear by my neighborhood was experienced here.
I really wanted to like Black Bear Diner when we came in, as I was the one who suggested it to my husband to drop by after we landed from the Sacramento airport. We came on the Monday during Thanksgi…
I hope they clean the kitchen better than they do the restroom! Crud buildup around the urinal grout didn't give me much hope?

Good food for what the place is! Service is friendly but not fast. In a good location for a bite to eat off the freeway. Don’t serve alcohol, biggest downer!

The place seemed busy. They didn't have any chicken or turkey sausage or patties to sub for bacon. I ended up with county potatoes and asked for no onions or pepper's and they came with a few. I tried a potato that wasn't near an onion and that's all I tasted, so I didn't eat those. The eggs were good, the french toast was good, but I had to cut the crust off, It was too hard. My friend said the waffle was good.
⭐☆☆☆☆ I entered Black Bear Diner to observe what humans classify as “comfort food,” which appears to be a ritual involving enormous portions, beige color palettes, and the assumption that more calories equal more joy. The menu was vast, yet somehow every item seemed to be a slight variation of bread, grease, and optimism. Time moved strangely here—either very slowly or at a rate my internal chronometer has not yet calibrated to Earth breakfast standards. The staff was polite and persistent, checking on my status with a frequency suggesting concern for my survival. I assured them I was functioning within acceptable parameters. The food arrived warm, heavy, and structurally sound, though its purpose seemed less nutritional and more ceremonial. I noted that the pancakes could double as insulation panels, and the eggs appeared to have surrendered long before reaching the table. The dining room was filled with satisfied humans emitting contented noises, which I recorded for later analysis. I completed the meal but felt no desire to hibernate, despite environmental cues strongly encouraging it. I left with the understanding that Black Bear Diner excels at providing abundance, familiarity, and the illusion of satisfaction. I will not be returning, but I appreciate the data.
Went 2 times in 2 weeks. 1st time was breakfast, basic French toast 6 out of 10. The waitress Amanda, (10) she is absolutely wonderful. The 2nd time was lunch, and I had a burger with frys. We'll burger over cooked & burnt bun & very dry overcooked hard crispy frys. The waiter wasn't all there he kinda listened but wasn't paying attention. he felt like he was in lala land. He didn't seem to care. I asked a non crispy frys and burger med rare. Fail
Food was solid like any other Black Bear I've visited! The servers were nice but the service was very very very slow. We were told that the wait was going to be 20 mins but we ended up waiting 45…

Hard to believe this is the same restaurant related to the other Black Bear franchises. The food at this location is always subpar. Just had breakfast here again today. Resulr: The eggs were cold, the hash browns undercooked. The chicken fried steak was all that was worth bring home. I left two of the three eggs, biscuits/gravy. Coffee was good. You can tell a lot about a restaurant if they ask about your experience. They don't do that at this location. Drive by and go to the Davis location!
My friend's Larry was raving about this local diner that is very popular with the people here, but when we actually went to one of its location, the food turned out to be less than spectacular. I ordered the biggest burger on their menu, the house's special named after one of the co-owners, and what I got was two small patties hidden underneath a huge bun. I was told to order the patties medium well-done, that way I can taste the meat. I only thing fresh that I tasted was the bun.
I should have ask the usual question on first time. The chicken fry steak looks like hand battered fresh steak, not, it's another frozen Pattie dropped in deep fryer. They have no clue what a biscuit…

So slow. Waited 1h 45m for food. The server was amazing but the kitchen was just so slow... only to find out that they forgot our order.

Don't order the salmon! price is $17.39 for salmon that is so over cooked it has to be cut with a knife is beyond ridiculous. If the cooks can't cook salmon what are they doing behind the stove!
I had breakfast here recently. The service was slow. The food was very average. The ambience was OK. The prices were outrageous. $19 for an omelette? A side of potatoes for $7.39? $7 for an orange …

The placed smelled so bad we almost left. They only had one waiter and he got busy. Took for ever for him to take out order Then forever to get it. My daughter saw it sitting in the window for at least 10 minutes. Other people's food longer than that. Will not go back.
I just had breakfast from our Woodland Black Bear Diner delivered for my son and me. I paid upwards of $70. I'm truly disappointed. I wouldn't have even blinked at spending that for the two of us had the quality been what it usually was. I never like leaving a review where I'm complaining...I'm more of the type to leave one that is glowing or not leave one at all. But this has to be said. The Calif Omelet had zero cheese in it, on it, around it. I ate halfway thru the omelet waiting for the cheese to start, plus hardly any mushrooms inside. The very very few specks of chz inside weren't even melted. The avocado on the top was gross...stringy lines that dont pull apart. Then the hashbrowns, or what they now call strip-cut hashbrowns, they were raw! Like I just pulled a potato out of the bag and started to eat skin amd dirt and all. My son ordered strip-cut hashbrowns (he loves hashbrowns and all COOKED potatoes) and he was sad/upset/mad bcuz he thought I ordered the wrong thing. THANKFULLY...his order of chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries made him happy. As for me, my breakfast was a wash. I kinda expect places like McDonalds etc to send some cold old food to me when I order delivery, but I didnt expect it from Black Bear. This was supposed to be a lil splurge. Im a single disabled mom and my son just turned 12. Im on a fixed income so for it to have not even been the expected quality of what Black Bear was known for, makes me mad. I can't even blame Black Bear. I shouldn't have trusted that the $70 would've been worth it, which it surely turned out not to be. So that's my gripe/complaint. Maybe this happens to most delivery orders, or I'm just the lucky one today..that I can't say. Just know that you may be throwing your money out the window if you're wanting your food delivered for the ultimate luxury experience of eating delicious Black Bear food in your own home. Maybe the dream was unrealistic...something had to give.
Every time I eat at Black Bear in woodland my food sucks. Potatoes are NEVER cooked all the way, they do not accommodate if you order thru a delivery service and refuse a refund. I will not support this place any longer, you guys have had some many chances to make things right and never follow thru or help out.
