Had lunch at Benares in Wyckoff and really enjoyed it. The lunch special is now $13.95, which is a great deal for what you get. The plate came with fresh naan, creamy dal makhani, paneer curry, and saag with veggies — all full of flavor and not too heavy. The onion salad with lemon and green chili on the side added a nice kick. The staff was super friendly and kept us entertained, chatting and checking in just the right amount. You can tell they actually enjoy what they do. They’ve also opened a banquet hall, which looks perfect for small parties or family gatherings. Overall, tasty food, good portions, and a fun, welcoming vibe. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area.
We hired Benares for our October 2024 wedding and worked with Ranbir Uncle for two events, one at a Gurudwara and another for lunch buffet at The Grove in Cedar Grove. He was wonderful to work with!! We got to do a tasting with our family and choose our dishes. He suggested different things as we were hosting two events. The first day we felt the dishes were a little too spicy for our guests, so we asked them to make the lunch a little less spicy for our main wedding day and they did it with no hesitation. Absolutely an incredible company to work with and I would highly recommend them!
Very nice staff/service and very good food. Haven't been to an Indian restaurant with seafood on the menu before. The crab dish was excellent and I'm looking forward to trying the other seafood options. The first time I ordered was take out which was well packed and delicious so that is another option. Overall I recommend checking it out. The Atom Bomb dessert was great as well as the homemade orange ice cream.
Located in the former retail space of Saffron at the Boulder Run Shopping Center in Wyckoff, this establishment is an offshoot of NYC’s Tribeca restaurant of the same name. The menu features contemporary authentic Indian cuisine with Tandoori specialties emphasizing the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the city of Benares, and the name of the restaurant. The deep, narrow, 70-seat space is subtle and spare, with gentle lighting, upholstered chairs, and a long banquette. I arrived with a guest as first-timers to Friday Elite lunch, thanks to Sara and the Yelp team. Greeted at the door by the staff, we located a table to include my fellow Yelpers, Diane C, Juju K, and their guests. Consisting of a family-style menu, the appetizers were Eggplant Chaat, Banarsi Kachori, Soya Chaap, Pani Puri Shots, Koli Erach, and Konkani Shrimp. The main included Diwani Handi, Kadhai Paneer, Mix Dal, Chicken Kali Mirch, Lamb Rogan Josh, Rice Raita, and assorted Naan Breads. Rounding off the desserts included Atom Bomb and Mango Rice Pudding. We washed them down with Mango Rupee beer and Prosecco. The food was modern, well executed, very flavorful, tasty, and not too spicy. It was not too heavy or greasy and reminded us of balanced, home-cooked meals. Portions were generous, and we left satisfied and happy. The owner, Ranbir Bhatia, and his staff provide welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable service. We had a wonderful lunch experience and could recommend this place.
So I was invited to give this restaurant a try. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. Walked in and was greeted and sat. The restaurant was very nice. My friend and I were served by a great group of servers and managers. We had a variety of food, but the shrimp and pepper chicken were the best! I enjoyed all the flavors and variety. This restaurant is byob. I truly enjoyed my time and my meal!
Delicious hidden Indian food, small place but with great taste food. It’s a BYO but they also have Rupee beer and some other drinks. Plenty of options to pick from the menu. There is also parking.
So delicious! The lunch specials are such a great value. You get an appetizer, entree, and a dessert for less than $20. The mango lassi is a great complement to cut the heat. They even gave us a lentil dish on the house. Plenty of food for lunch and had leftovers to take away. Will come back!
I had a great time eating delicious food at Benaares Indian Restaurant. The waitresses were committed to great service and were very friendly. The atmosphere was awesome and welcoming and I definitely liked that they can customise spice level for all the customers ( Mild, medium or spicy ) Most importantly, every food and drink on your menu tasted great! Their chicken biryani is really popular and shrimp curry is very aunthentic, they have lunch buffet as well which is worth all the money! And its only $16.99 with alot of options! I would recommend everyone to come and try their food.

I did a bridal tasting here yesterday. The food was mouth watering. The staff was friendly. The owner Ranbir Ji was knowledgeable, accommodating, and hard working. My whole family had one of the best experiences eating here. We are seriously considering them for catering soon! Really really enjoyed and highly recommended.
Great food! Firs time here with my brother. I've always seen those Indian street vendor videos selling the Pani Puri shots- this is the first Indian restaurant I've come across that has this. It was really good! My first time having the Kasmiri Pulao- so good. This might be my new favorite Indian restaurant. Will need to try other menus items. Pics are Pani Puri shots, Kakori Lamb Seekh Kebab, and Kasmiri Pulao. Not pictured are Butter Chicken, Chicken Shahi Korma.
Went here for dinner on a weekday and it was relatively empty, great customer service, and amazing food. We ordered the Kashmiri Tikka for appetizer, paneer gravy for entree and Garlic Naan. The food tasted very flavorful and was not spicy. Garlic Naan was extremely soft and we called for extra since it was so good. They had high chairs available and the fried snacks that they provide for the table kept our toddler engaged till food arrived.
It was very delicious, very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The place is quiet and a little dim. During the day it appears they serve a buffet style lunch.
The mulligatawny soup was the best on the east coast. Brings you back to India. The tandoori chicken, garlic naan, chicken vindaloo, and Malai kofta were heaven. Ranbir Bhakta set the stage like he was welcoming us into his home in New Delhi. Original from Bukhara restaurant in New Delhi. Why go to India when you can come here!!!
Great Indian food with a really good variety of choices.
We had booked this for a bday party last sunday..the staff is really good ,friendly and helpful. The decor is warm, the food was great and all the guests liked every item in the buffet.
My personal experience. chicken tikka masala is awesome, and also lambchops are amazing will be coming back….
Great. Super friendly staff. Lunch special incredibly reasonable. Quick ! Nice outdoor seating w space heater
This restaurant has been on our must visit list since we read a very positive review a few months ago in The Record. We visited last Sunday. Our waiter Sam was very welcoming and walked us through the extensive menu and directed us towards some of his favorite dishes. We ordered two of the appetizers The Record reviewer enjoyed and two Sam recommended. Next time we will space the delivery because all four were delivered too quickly. The portions were larger than I expected, was too much food for two people, but everything was very good. Restaurant is a BYO Wine and we will be back!
Amazing food and service! As soon as I had the first bite of the adraki samosa, I knew we'd be regulars, and they continued to impress throughout the meal. We had a great experience!
10/10 best indian restaurant around! Food is fantastic each time & the staff is amazing
I have been coming to Benares for years. The quality and service have always been excellent. We even catered for two big events from Benares.
Such a beautiful place for dinner. The atmosphere and indoor restaurant is beautiful and the food is amazing. From the appetizers to the meal to the dessert, this is hands down the best Indian food in the area. Everyone loves Nirvana in Allendale. Well, this place is ten times better hands down. We had the atom bomb dessert which was rose petal ice cream and chocolate lava cake. Life changing. What a great meal! Can’t wait to come back!
Our whole family enjoys everything about Benares restaurant. The dishes are beautifully presented, the atmosphere is always lively yet relaxing, and the service is top-notch. A complete experience!
Only done take out orders but the food is excellent and arrives hot and at the time requested.
As a suburban dad with a full schedule, I relied on pizza and Chinese for the ol’ “don’t feel like cooking” deliveries, for the better part of a decade. That was a mistake. I added Benares to the rotation a few years back, and simply put, it’s amazing. If you’re new to Indian food, make your first order the Khasta Gobhi, Bhel Puri, Chicken Tika Masala, and Garlic Naan. I might not be able to accurately pronounce most of these dishes, but it’s all around incredible fare with generous portions and a wide range of vibrant flavors. From there, the Rogan Josh, Andhra Chicken Curry, and anything vindaloo (if you’re feeling spicy) are all incredible. The British fought wars over these spices, and I now completely understand why. Long story short, give Benares a shot if you haven’t already.
We took our friends to Benares in Wyckoff rather than their usual Indian restaurant that they've loved for years. By the end of the meal, they had a NEW favorite Indian restaurant. The food was tasty, beautifully presented and plentiful. The service was impeccable even though we chose to dine outdoors. The waiter made great suggestions and we ordered items we usually would have passed over, but we were so satisfied and surprised. Can't recommend enough.
I’ve catered from here and dined many times. I am Indian and feel they have the best food, hands down. Quality and Flavor is top notch. This is the best Indian restaurant in New Jersey.
Hands down, THE BEST cafe in. I don't think I need to say more! The food is just so, so darn good! Everything you'll get here tastes like no other place and it's absolutely heavenly! The menu is so huge, there's something for everyone here. And everything is available in vegetarian as well as non vegetarian variants, so we can all enjoy! The portion sizes are very generous, which is always appreciated. The decor also sets the mood just right. I love the vintage and retro vibe. It's a must visit!
One of the best Indian Fine Dining, The menu here is less comprehensive, more selective than most Indian restaurants I've been to, and that was just fine as there are ample choices and many of them are things I haven't seen at other places. What struck me mostly was how refined, carefully prepared, and carefully plated the food was compared with those other Indian restaurants. Service was attentive and courteous, and I'd be happy to return for another meal sometime soon.
This is by far the best Indian food I've had in a very long time. I've been to many places in the area and this little strip mall place out does them by a mile. We started with Eggplant Chat, which is just spectacular, Samosa, which were fresh and delicious. Garlic Naan a must, hot and flavorful. We ordered for our entree, tandoori lamb chops. Oh my gosh they were sooooo delicious, and so tender, melt in your mouth. We also enjoyed Chicken Korma which puts others to shame. This was one of the best meals I've enjoyed in so long. I'd go back tomorrow if I could! The service was attentive and very friendly. Well worth giving a try, you won't be disappointed!
I had a wonderful solo lunch today to treat myself. I have been meaning to come back for a few years but timing never worked until today. Everyone was so friendly, the service was incredibly fast, and the food was delicious! I had the non-vegetarian lunch special for just under $18 and I got SO much food - an appetizer (samosas), main dish (chicken saag) that came with lentil soup, basmati rice, and naan. Top it all off with a delightful dessert, included in the special! Highly recommend.
I came here for lunch with my Aunt and Uncle for the first time as they live Wyckoff. All of us ordered different dishes and everything was outstanding! The food was full of flavor, very fresh, well presented, and the service was superb. The staff were very kind and it was truly a great experience. Highly recommend this being you top choice for Indian food:)
I have been l using them for last 30 years. They originally started as Minar and then upscaled to Benares for catering weddings and big gatherings and festivities/celebrations. You can not beat their authentic north Indian taste and consistent quality. Neetu and Ranbir are great... You can never go wrong with getting them to cater your event. The food and service in their restaurants is the best.
Love Benares, everything is delicious and they deliver! Love their butter chicken, tikka masala, they have some awesome apps too. We really like the behl puri and aloo paper chaat. All very good and consistent. thank you!
On a leisurely Saturday evening, we found it surprisingly easy to secure a reservation at this charming establishment. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a delightful surprise—a platter of crispy fryums accompanied by three delectable dips, all complimentary. The dips, with their tantalizing flavors, served as the perfect prelude to our dining experience. For appetizers, we opted for the benarasi kachori and the misal pav. The kachori, boasting a harmonious blend of sweetness and spice, paired exquisitely with a dollop of yogurt, rendering it a flawless appetizer choice. The generous portion of misal pav impressed us both in quantity and flavor, setting a high standard for the courses to follow. Moving on to the main course, we indulged in the paneer kadai and benarasi dum aloo, both served with complementary rice. The rich flavors and aromatic spices of these dishes delighted our palates, reaffirming our satisfaction with our dining choice. Additionally, we savored the aloo paratha and paneer kucha, which added further depth to our culinary journey. Throughout our dining experience, the service remained exemplary, with prompt attention to our needs. The delectable cuisine, coupled with the efficient service, left us thoroughly impressed. This establishment unquestionably deserves a spot on the list of must-try Indian restaurants. Furthermore, parking proved to be a non-issue, thanks to the ample free parking available outside the restaurant—a convenient perk that further enhances the overall dining experience.
Went there for lunch special and was extremely pleased. Ordered 1 Non Vegetarian meal and 1 vegetarian meal. Both meals were absolutely flavorful and closer to North Indian taste. Service attentive but not overbearing. Portions were generous and we left satisfied and happy. Deducting one star as the lemon soda was little off in taste. Vegetarian lunch $14 and non veg $16
11/21/23 An old article from Boozy Burb about the opening of Benares came up in my hubby's inbox. Since we love Indian food we had to try it. We had a delicious meal! Service was spot on, they answered our questions and helped with selection. Fresh Lime Soda - refreshing drink Mango Lassi - a bit too thick for me but hubby loved it Tawa Scallops - delicious! my only comment, the scallops were frozen not fresh, but the spices were amazing Garlic Naan - not as garlicky as i like but still good, especially dipped in the sauces Goan Curry Shrimp - so good! the creamy sauce was different from what i usually order Laal Maans - hubby love lamb and goat, but hate the bones. This dish is boneless lamb. He loved it! I'm not a lamb fan, but the sauce was delicious. Will definitely come back when in the area.
Benares - Modern Indian Restaurant Wyckoff, NJ It’s a nice restaurant. I like the ambiance and the hospitality. I like ; Paneer Tikka, Butter Paneer Masala, Daal and the Bangali sweet, the sugar proportion was perfect 👌. Quality of Paneer was very good and mouth melting! Tandoori Roti was very well made! Restroom was very clean 👏🏻 Overall a very nice experience, I will recommend this restaurant! 🙏🏻
Excellent Appetizers and Desserts (except Gajar Halwa). Entrees have lot of room for improvement though. Overall very happy with the place. Will definitely keep coming back.
Very good Indian cuisine! Excellent ambience with polite and efficient service! Ordered Non veg as well veg items. We had garlic nun, chicken curry, goat masala curry, malai and chicken cabbage, lemonade. For dessert we had Rasmalai.
This was my first time having Indian food and my meal was delicious. Not overly spicy. The place is beautiful decorated and the staff wasn't attentive just amazing.
I read about this restaurant in The Herald News. I really don't know much about Indian food, but my friend likes it so I suggested we try the lunch buffet. The food was great, not too spicy and seasoned nicely. It was a good way for me to try a variety of dishes. Quiet atmosphere with nice background music. The staff was not overbearing but there if you needed them. Will definitely go back.
Update to review 12/2/22. Looks like new management is in place , not sure for how long as I haven't visited since my last review few years ago. The food was pretty good and the service has gotten so much better than what it was earlier. Definitely a good choice for good Indian food ___________________________________________ Very poor service with hardly anyone around to serve or ask for our order. Worse still most of the staff were busy taking turns to smoke instead of asking us if we needed to order or food ! Even after we let them know we were not happy with the service nothing changed, it actually got worse.
Decided to try Benares after hearing it was the best in Bergen County. I was so disappointed. The food lacked any depth of flavor and was overall very oily. I had to skim oil off the top of every dish I ordered. Will be sticking to Bombay Hut, even though their prices are outrageous given the portion sizes.
I just move to Wyckoff and wanted to give this restaurant a try. Unfortunately can’t not give more than one start. I order Chicken Tika and the chicken was burned and dry as if it was used from left overs. A bit disappointed as I have been to many Indian restaurants and this was not to my expectations. Hope it is for other. :-( and I didn’t even mention the nann bread was very old and dry as well ugh!!! Safe yourself a trip there.
I ordered Tikka Masala last night. In the instructions I wrote “please make extra spicy. Indian spicy”. There was no spice at all. The food was bland. I confirmed the instructions were even printed on my receipt. It was disappointing.
At the venue Food Service was very poor once you paid them they picked up food. We are hosting a party at venue for 400 guests. Once we paid them, they picked up the food from the venue. Our guests did not had dinner yet We were trying to talk to team members they were very unprofessional. They start fighting with us.
Ordered madrass coffee, it was worst coffee of my life time, and it was too costly 5$ per coffee, full waste of money
