love the pizza at Escape from New York .thin crispy crust. the vibe is fun and the price for a slice is fair. staff is friendly and the vibe is good. all around a great place for a quick bite.
I know there are so many places in San Fran that social media stars love to showcase, and I am sure those places are good. But every time I come to san francisco I have to go to Escaoe from New York pizza in the Haight. I will say that I generally like a slice of cheese, but today not only did I get the cheese I got their roasted potato with roasted garlic with pesto and cheese pizza and at first I was like who puts potatoes on pizza, now I want to know why more places dont 😅. My husband got the mushroom pizza, and im not gonna lie I was jealous and kicking myself for not getting a mushroom as well. All of the pizzas were delicious, but the potato one was my favorite! And the young woman working at the counter was very friendly as well!
This is very good pizza. The cheese and pepperoni are good, of course, but do try the other toppings too. It’s cheaper to get a whole pizza, but I recommend trying a bunch of slices if you can afford.
The atmosphere here is on point. The pizza is incredible, and who knew potato pizza was good! Prices are reasonable and it’s overall a great place to stop in and get a slice with friends
Called this morning to order a bunch of pizzas for a birthday party. The staff were super helpful and made sure I didn’t over order. Talking me down from 15 pizzas to 8. Everyone enjoyed the pizza. Appreciate the honest and helpful service. Will be back.
As a New Yorker from Hunts point who fell in love with a Cali girl, this place didn't disappoint. Everything felt authentic from the parlor seats, parmesan and chili flake shakers to the large slices sold by the slice (verry reasonably priced btw). We ordered our slices (cheese and pepperoni) and we were served promptly. Our pizza slices were amazing. The only negative I have is that they didn't have my size on the hoodie I wanted. Highly recommended I will come back for more!
Thought about rating 4 stars, only because they do not offer beer, but changed my mind because they recommended that we walk across the street and grab whatever we wanted from the liquor store. This place does feel like a typical NY pizza joint, right in the heart of Haight. It’s got that gritty street vibe, with amateur photos of all the celebs that have walked through the door and had a slice of their pie. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had potato pizza, though they should add some Gorgonzola cheese (or more of it). Tasty pizza, quick and convenient, no fuss. Just a good old fashion pizza joint that sticks to doing what they do best. It’s the only pizza we had while in SF, so I can’t say if it’s the best, but I will happily go back. And it’s next to Amoeba Music, so win-win. Update: We ended up finding what we believe to be the best pizza in SF (that we tried anyway), at Tony G's SLICE HOUSE just a few blocks from this Escape from NY location. It's also on Haight St, closer to Ashbury. Both place are good, but Slice House for the win!
Non greasy pizza with unique combination options. I like the Miss Figgy because it’s flavor combination is uncommon and delicious. The New York Pesto Chicken is also a favorite of ours too. The crust can be on the thick side but I prefer that. This is not your traditional Italian pizza but it’s a pizza I do crave and keep coming back for. The XL is huge and we enjoy the leftovers throughout the week.
Best pizza on the Haight. Say no more! Limited street parking. Limited seating. But...Definitely worth it! I do not know how EFNYP creates such wonderful and delicious pizza. I'm thinking they must be importing the water from NY for the pizza dough. I have never seen, heard of or even thought of combining potatoes and pesto...it works!...extremely well! -renaygarseeya
This was the 1st place my girlfriend and I ate at, on our first trip to San Francisco. We were told to check out Haight street, that it was worth visiting, so we gave it a shot. Upon walking in, this place felt very casual and welcoming, with a delicious aroma, that made both of our mouths water immediately. We walked up to the counter and asked the gentleman what he recommended. While I like meats on pizza and my girlfriend being almost vegan, we had different ideas on what we might order. The recommendation? He suggested that we try the potato and garlic pizza. We decided to get a slice of that, a veggie one as well, and finally a mushroom slice. All 3 were very delicious & we quickly inhaled all 3 slices, rotating which one we took a bite of, each time. While the mushroom was one of my favorite (familiar) flavors, it was still extremely delicious & I would return to just eat that, if that was all they had. That being said, the veggie slice was extremely flavorful & could have been the only slice we ordered, and still been very happy. The major surprise, to both of us, was how tasty the potato and garlic pizza was. I knew there must be something to it, for the recommendation, but wow, it was good. The staff was also very friendly and offered to help and answer any questions we had, and gave us the parmesan & peppers, in quantity, we had enough for all 3 slices. We thoroughly enjoyed the pizza & service & would come back, the next time we visit San Francisco.
Perfect spot in a cool location. The pizza is really good, but a bit expensive, also the service... service?, right... what "service", there's no service. Eventhough, it is a nice place for a classic NY pepperoni pizza. (by the way: "Escape from NY" is a mandatory stop right after a records dig into Amoeba Records)
This is a small place near the Mission street. This place serves pizza, salads, burgers and beer. The place is usually not crowded and mostly empty during the day. There is no wait time. The pizza was not that great. They took a long time to just heat the pizza and it wasn’t that hot too. They also have some happy hours during the day on pizza and beer. It will cost around 5$ for a slice of pizza and it’s pretty cheap.
As a born and raised New Yorker, I can say that this pizza was okay freaking great for CA pizza, but just okay to me by NY standards. Plus, brown-skinned dude with the out the box curls needed to chill with all the attitude just because my family asked for a to go box for our large pizza and plates so we could eat a few slices there. Average pizza spot though, but props for being able to buy individual slices, even if they are wildly overpriced!
Hi SF community who goes to this location There is a recisit guy who is making a pizza He should not work there. Please avoid him and don’t show him respect because he doest deseres it. The employee I dealt with was rude, unprofessional, and completely disrespectful. Instead of greeting customers or showing any effort, they acted annoyed, rolled their eyes, and spoke with an attitude like they were being forced to work against their will. Basic customer service clearly doesn’t exist here. If this is the type of person representing your business, no wonder people don’t want to come back.
