This is my second time coming here this week, and I’ll be back again next week so you know the food is amazing! It took me too long to try Liberian food, I couldn’t believe how delicious it is.. I’ve been missing out! I’m always looking to try different African restaurants in the bay and I’m glad I came here. I recommend the palm butter and the potato greens. Try them you’ll love it! I look forward to trying everything on the menu. They also have plantain fufu which i was very happy about because most African spots only have pounded yam. Oh and the sauce!! The sauce is so good it LITERALLY goes with everything. It’s super tasty & kinda spicy so grab a jar while you’re there. The owner Dougie is so pleasant & welcoming, and the service is quick!
First time eating here, we came for the food food. It was delicious got my entire family our own individual meals , Even though the portions are a really good size, we wanted to try Uber rioting things because we couldn't pick cause it all looked are good. And after we ate it we were glad we did. We tried the medium sauce purchased it. It was so delicious and I love and it have fish inside. We will definitely be back, and I told my family about it already.
we had their #1 dish with rice and chicken and plantain absolutely tender chicken. Delicious sauce. It’s been my second time here last time I had the oxtail stew and it was amazing. I tried their signature hot sauce, and it tasted perfect. Service was quick about 10 minutes.
The food is simply amazing, I ordered the Jumbo Oxtail Stew x3 Peanut Soup, Jollof Rice, Greens and FuFu for my family and Myself this is our second time and we still Love the flavor, the customer service. We attempted another place that was closer to home and it was no comparison. Kendejah is hands down our go to spot for mouth watering, flavor filled, soul fulfilling West African Cuisine.
A true hidden gem. I was looking for something to eat and took a gamble on this spot and it paid off big time. The oxtail and Fufu were great. I intended to enjoy the meal when I got home but made the mistake of sampling the food while in the car. That led to a change of plans. The oxtails were cooked and seasoned PERFECTLY. I consumed my whole meal while in the car so focused on the food I almost forgot about the crazy sauce they sold there. It's named THE SAUCE, that name alone speaks volumes. That sauce is the biz. I got the mild and it was a perfect blend of heat and pepper. I will be heading back there tomorrow to sample a couple more items on the menu.
People were super nice and the food was very flavourful and delicious!
LOVE this food..... Okay, disclaimer, I ALWAYS order the Jollof Rice with chicken and turkey. On my way there, I tell myself I'm going to order something different, but I can never quite do it. The dinner includes delicious plantains. My friend invariably orders the oxtails w/ rice and beans, so I'm not the only one with a favorite! Right now, they are still open only for takeout, but the food travels well and is cooked fresh so was plenty warm when we made it home. I look forward to when we can sit inside again!
They would welcome you warmly, making you feel like family. I am always buying oxtail with fufu, which is my favorite. May God bless your business.
I always love this place! Their food has always been delicious and satisfying. They're friendly and it's always a nice vibe. But tonight they went above and beyond... I was driving home kind of late and called see if I could place an order. Even though it was just a few minutes before closing, they were able to put together and delicious oxtail with beans and rice and corn bread! It was so good and they were awesome for going the extra mile to fill an order, when they could have just close their doors for the night. Thank you! Can't wait to come back next girls nite!
One of the best meals I’ve had recently of any type or tradition. Strong recommend! We had the oxtail, snapper, greens and jollof rice. Oxtail was falling off the bone, snapper was so fresh and flavorful, and the greens were succulent and well seasoned. Service was also 10/10
First time trying fufu. It taste so amazing! And the soup was really spicy, I loved it. The meat in the soup was so tender and delicious. And the Ox tail was really really good. Definitely have to go back and try everything on the menu!
Service is bar non! Dougie and staff are very friendly and welcoming. The place is clean and feels like home. I love the atmosphere with the music playing in the background, giving you images of African culture and art. The food is delicious, everything on the menu is 🔥. You get a taste of Liberia in every bite and the portion sizes are filling. If you are looking for a destination for your taste buds, definitely make the visit. I'm a regular and I live in San Francisco! It's rare to find good food that's affordable, taste amazing, and make you feel at home. You'll be glad you made the trip, I can promise that!
First time having Liberian food and we were really impressed. The menu changes based on the day of the week, but a few items are available everyday. We got a bit of a history lesson from the owner, who explained the paintings of the men on the wall were the first 8 presidents of Liberia. All of them were originally US Citizens. Liberia is the only country in Africa that slaves returned to after being freed. This is why a lot of the food has influences from the South and Caribbean. Pretty much all dishes come with rice and beans and everything was truly fantastic! The best dish here is the oxtail stew. First time having oxtail and fell in love. The flavor of the stew with this tender meat was one of the best things I have ever tried. Also the Acheike Fish was fantastic. We also went for the chicken wings that had a very original sauce and flavor to them. Not everyone we came with was a fan, but I loved them!
This restaurant needs to be five stars! I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years now and I was introduced though a friend and I’m so glad that I was. My favorite dish here is the goat pepper soup with Fufu! This is what I come here for! I love the owner and the workers. The owner has a happy person I’m very good with his customers. He also has frozen foods! I just went there today for my goat pepper soup and paid extra for more goat! I love the oxtails as well. It’s so delicious. The Restaurant is clean and intimate. Unhappy that Covid has us not being able to dine in so whoever did not experience dining in? I feel bad for you. Take a trip over to Kendejah and tell him that I sent you for the Goat pepper soup!
I ordered the Potato Greens and was very delicious. It carries a unique authentic flavor, blended with a generous portion of smoke turkey meat, soft and tender off the bone, and pouring it over the cup of rice, together mixed, was such an absolutely tasteful unforgettable meal. It's hard to explain, but I was able to bring some left overs home and shared it with my child. We both enjoyed it together, and truly admire this Liberian dish. I do plan on going back to this place, I call, "The joy of eating."
We love this place. The food is delicious. My favorite is the oxtail. Especially with the pepper sauce if you like spicy. The owner is really nice and always remembers us when we come in. I even love the greens which is odd because I'm ussually a meat kinda guy. Definitely give it a try if you haven't.
Was craving Liberian food and have been meaning to try Kendejah for a while! My sister and I (both originally from Liberia and Vai) came here with a childhood friend who was interested in trying our food. We came on Saturday-their traditional dishes change daily. We ordered Torborgee and peanut soup with fufu and some jollof rice. Portions are huge and food was delicious! Torborgee was some of the best I've had and the fufu was cooked perfectly. The jollof could have used some heat but I tend to like my food with pepper. It's better than any jollof you'll eat from another west African restaurant (Nigerian and Ghana jollof can't hold a flame to Liberian jollof). Our server brought us pepper sauce which is VERY HOT but I loved it-you just need a tiny bit. Service was kind and the vibe is authentic. Plus they have a food truck and do catering! These Vai girls will be back for sure!
Delicious! It was my first time having Liberian cuisine, and it was an experience. I usually finish whatever dish I'm eating, but I should have invited somebody over or saved some...the portions were pretty big! Give them a call as they're open pretty late for San Leandro during Covid times.
Love the food here. As an African born(Ghanaian), it is pretty difficult to find really good African cuisine that can remind me of my mother’s cooking. I checked this place out when I got a visit from my cousin. Really impressed how good the Fufu was. He also ordered some rice and fish which looked so good I almost got mad for ordering Fufu, then I took a bite and realized I’m always right when it comes to food haha jk.
Great restaurant, cool owner, delicious food ! This particular day I ordered the peanut butter stew I believe it had Turkey and beef with with fufu and I ordered a side of greens... Everything was fabulous, but greens are out of this world! Everything I have tried here Has been yummy! Check it out you won't be disappointed!
First time at Kendejah and it was pretty good. So happy it's all halal food! I ordered okra soup with chicken and turkey (loved the turkey flavor in it -- very smokey), jallof rice was very flavorful too, ordered egusi but I think there was some miscommunication so I got the goat soup (it was okay for me -- very tomatoes but the goat was very tender) and of course fufu is always good. Also, got the cornbread and mannnnn I are the whole thing without sharing! It was delicious!
Extremely friendly and hospitable hosts. FYI, Takeout only now . The food was great! Highly recommended!
Phenomenal food. I haven’t had Liberian food in a long time and this hit the spot. Food came out quick and it was still fresh by the time I got it back home. Would recommend to others and would definitely come back. Ordered the cassava leaf with chicken and smoked turkey. Switched the rice for fufu which was a bit more expensive but 100% worth it.
So delicious! I go here almost every time I am in San Leandro, and sometimes go to San Leandro specifically to go here. I usually get the potato greens and a side of plantains. I am continually surprised by the depth of flavor developed in the vegetarian version of the greens.
Me and my cousins were looking for a place to get fufu. One of the restaurants that we were planning to go to was closed on Sunday, but Thank God we found out Kendejah Restaurant was open! It was my first time having Liberian food and I was not disappointed. As soon as we walked in, Dougie gave us a sample of “The Sauce”, and I knew I had to bring one home to NY. All orders are take out, but we were lucky to sit at the table outside the restaurant. We couldn’t wait to eat that I couldn’t get decent pictures of our dishes. We ordered the oxtail stew, okra, the collard greens with chicken and plantains. It was my first time trying fufu and I enjoyed it. I am not a fan of okra because i’m a texture person, but the okra we got COMPLETELY changed my mind. I would order it again, especially the oxtail. Everything was delicious, you have to try it yourself.
So delightful. Delicious flavors, huge portions and the kindest staff. Definitely get the hot sauce (you can buy by the bottle too!) Was ready 20 minutes after I called the order in. Wish I could try their special daily menus for a week + !
I've been trying to get their oxtails and gravy for a while and I got lucky! They only had 1 order left and I walked away with it. 😁 The rice and gravy was good and the portions were perfect...I had enough to eat twice. The plantains were awesome, so sweet.😋
Delicious! Very yummy! Excellent flavours, like home cooking if you lived in Liberia. Quaint little place. Friendly people. Vegetarians happy!!!
All the food here is very fresh and flavorful, highly recommend. Oxtail soup and collard greens are the standout favorites.

This place is bomb aff!! I would recommend the goat soup, egusi, and palm butter dishes!! Like honestly everything was so tea especially since they upgraded their place to dine in!! The service was soo kind and we accidently ordered a dish that wasn’t available for the day and they still served it to us!
My daughter and I drove up from San Jose for lunch because there isn't any West African food near us - and we are so glad we did! I had the okra with smoked turkey and chicken, and she got the stewed goat. We both opted for the fufu because we had not had it before, and we also got cornbread. Plus we got "The Sauce". Everything was so yummy, and made with love. The okra dish had a lot of flavor, and a nice texture. We both really liked the fufu as well. The goat stew was spicy and really flavorful. The cornbread also went really well with the goat stew. The cornbread had a bit of an orange flavor, which was nice. We really want to come back and try the peanut stew on a Saturday.

Great food. Really enjoyed it. This is mostly a take out place. There's a single dining table.
I visited during times which in-door dining was not yet available. I was greeted by a gentleman with great cheer and warm welcoming. My order was on time, confirmed and packed. The aromas were bursting out of the packaging! And once home, and as I dove into my meal, I was WOWed with the perfect balance of flavors, aromatic spices and tender texture of the goat! It’s not easy to get goat so perfectly tender.
Oh yeah this a new restaurant in the pelton plaza. I love certain types of African food and these guys have what I like. I was on my way to I tea when I got stopped by a young lady asking if I wanted to try a sample. Free food yep I'm down where is it. Ha should of know they would get me. The samples were so yummy my ass ended getting a take out order. I ended up with the collard greens and rice and split pea. The portions are very generous so you will be stuffed because the flavors are so good you can't stop eating. I didn't stay inside to eat but they have plenty of seating. Next time I will stay a bit longer to enjoy the awesome service.
service was very nice and the owner was kind and welcoming! But the food.. we loved the goat soup but ox tail was hard to eat(it did not taste good), jollef was lacking flavor :(
I heard about this place from watching"Check Please Bay Area" went with my friend Shirley ,the wait was short the food absolutely delicious & flavorful!!! Dougie the owner said he's seen an increase in the past few weeks since it aired. He was the only one working the tables I mean busboy, waiter, host he said he has a full staff but didn't expect this volume on a Sunday. My chicken wings were forgotten & so was my infusion water but he made up for it with a free order of collard greens & rice to take to my son. It was my husband's first time having oxtails with black beans and rice he loved It we will definitely be back😍
Takeout only place. Got the Oxtail Served with rice. Good Oxtail. Mine was tender but my friend said his was not.

Food taste very good but you get more rice and beans than oxtails. The only seating area is outside the restaurant and I think they have maybe only two tables. So it's best to place your order over the phone or just order when you arrive.
I got the potato greens, which was good. I ordered online and it said it would be ready in 15 minutes, which was not the case. They did take about an extra 20 minutes to finish making and packing my food even though it was a special of the day. The food was well seasoned and I believe the turkey they used was just smoked turkey- eat in moderation given that smoked turkey is high in sodium.
The food is excellent - taste great - seems healthy - good portions The only thing I would say is the bones in the meat can be a little bit sharp. Also, I wonder about the safety of the plastic containers on the hot food.

I tried all the items on the daily menu and saturday menu which includes: Attieke and fish, joloff rice, oxtail, fufu and peanut butter sauce, bean toborgee and potato greens. My favorite and only dish i liked was Attieke and Fish. Potato greens was pretty dry. And i really could not stand the smell of the Bean Toborgee as it was a very strong smell and did not like the taste neither.

No indoor seating with only 1 table outside. Food quality and quantity was quite bad for the price they are charging. Taste was mid. Don't get fooled by the ratings.
I paid $45 for red snapper w/ jollof and a side of greens. I'm very disappointed... the fish was tiny and overcooked. I don't think it was fresh...it was not white and flaky at all. Waste of money.
Atmosphere: is outdoors only couple tables. Service: is quick & fast. The food.... The oxtail is good not much flavor no spices. One single dish will run you $25 that comes with 4 pieces of oxtail and 75% of the dish is rice. You're practically buying a dish of rice at this point. Rice has no flavor every mouthful you have, it tastes like a cardboard box, it's unappetizing eating it at this point. They have a bigger size with 8 pieces of oxtail, I can only imagine the price. I would rather drive to San Jose and check out the "Back-a-yard Caribbean grill" The oxtail has flavor the rice has flavor, they have different levels of spices, it comes with 2 pieces of jerk chicken, it has 4 or more pieces of oxtail, it has a decent amount of rice, it comes with plantains I could get all of that plus a drink for the exact amount I spent without a drink & it's the same size as the bowl that holds 8 pieces of oxtail at Kendejah restaurant. I had high expectations because of the reviews and it didnt wow me at all. The oxtail was good but just no flavor the rice wasn't good at all. Not saying I won't be back at Kendejah restaurant. maybe today was just one of those days that they didn't put too much work in or was missing stuff. But for now I'm fine with driving 47min to get some delicious oxtail with jerk chicken combination at that place in SJ.

Save your money I ordered the jollof rice and chicken no chicken More rice that was bland with seems like canned tomatoes also order the oxtails let’s just say. The smell that was coming from my oxtail plate I didn’t even try it i threw that crap right in the trash also oxtails had so much fat on it and also ordered the bland no salt chicken wings I had high hopes for this place but after paying almost 100 dollars I will never return do better season your food and whatever ridiculous smell that came from the oxtail rice and beans plate smelled like death waste of money & time and also these 5 * reviews literally seems a lil suspect cause their is no way anyone would give this place 5*
