Lun Ting Cafe is a beloved, old-school Cantonese restaurant known for its generous portions and affordable prices. The roast pork and ribeye are popular, and meals come with complimentary soup, potstickers, and tea. Some find the service grumpy, but the food comforting.

Tip: Ask for extra gravy on the roast pork with gravy dish. Consider ordering dishes with sauce as the pork chop alone can be a bit dry.

I really like this place — it has a unique atmosphere. The food is tasty; don’t expect it to be exactly like in China, as it’s a bit Americanized, but still much better than many other places. Prices are reasonable for San Francisco, and portions are generous. I’ve been here a few times and tried several dishes, including sirloin steak, roast pork, and beef tongue — all were really good. I wanted to try the ribeye steak, but every time I asked for it at dinner, the lady said it was sold out. If you want it, you’ll need to come for lunch rather than dinner. A nice touch is that each meal comes with small extras: a side of soup, a single Chinese-style dumpling, and complimentary tea. The lady who works there is very official and a bit grumpy — she could smile more 🤪 — but overall, it’s a great place with a unique vibe, big portions, and fair prices.
TLDR: inexpensive and delicious food for locals, come get some delicious pork with orange sauce or curry sauce This is a pretty local place with a cool history, would definitely recommend to come and try some delicious plates of food, a plate of pork chop with a HK milk tea costs around $20 after tax and tip. The milk tea is smooth, the pork is tender and just the right amount of fattiness.
Kinda HK style like chinese food with western influence but the ox tail is so tender and the sesame sauce on the pork chops is so good I also like the bitter melon soup even tho im not a huge fan of bitter melon and a lot of my much older friends go there too so u know its the spot I will say the sauce is kinda heavy so if u have sensitive stomach to like Indian food for example like thick sauces dont go there but ive gone 3 or 4 times and every dish is great even tho its served with spaghetti and stuff feels a little weird but its good and the corn has like this light seasoning on it taste great too and the meat is always mad tender
Great food, lots of options, tranquil atmosphere, reasonable prices. We got a small soup, a dumpling and delicious green tea (all complimentary/included) while we waited for our main dishes.
Service was fast, the cut of the ribeye is appropriate for the price and despite being budget—they cooked it so well. Your meal comes with a drink or tea, a fried dumpling, and a small soup. Everything was delicious. The establishment is not frilly, but it was clean and organized. The gravy was delicious, but next time I’m getting it on the prime rib or rib eye!
Roast pork with gravy was life changing. Comes with tea, soup and a dumpling. I'll be back!
So awesome. Great hearty food with an awesome lady serving us at affordable prices! Food comes with hot tea, soup, and also pot stickers (which we rejected cos we don't take meat). The unagi was good and a really thick big piece. Better than what you could get at Japanese restaurants. For the pepper fish rice, I also added an egg. After which, the lady offered us ice cream on the house! And she further served the orange to my friend who didn't want the ice cream.
We always make a stop here on our way home after an extended time away and order our usuals. There’s something really comforting about the familiar flavors, and it always hits the spot when we start missing home. Roast Pork with Gravy – We always ask for extra gravy over the rice. This dish is super consistent. Flavorful every time and exactly what we expect. Lamb Stew with Gravy – Also great with gravy over the rice. It can be a little hit or miss depending on the cut of meat. Usually it’s hearty with generous portions, though occasionally there’s more bone than meat. Still, the flavor makes up for it, and we keep coming back for it. Service – It’s efficient and no-frills. You won’t get chit-chat or extra pleasantries, but the food comes out fast, packed well for takeout, and the staff knows what they’re doing. It’s straightforward and reliable. Overall: 5/5 – Solid food, dependable experience, and always a welcome stop for our family.
This is a a 50-year old SF Chinatown restaurant serving wonderful Cantonese food. It is know.l also as the Pork Chop house. Its most famous dish is the Roast Pork Rice plate. They have perfected it! Don’t be fooled by its unassuming decor (one can easily miss the place). The people there are friendly and often throw in 1-2 fried dumplings for you! Recommend! Update: 11/10/24 Their 3-dish meal with rice and soup is delicious and very reasonable. A lot of times, the owner provides free dessert or a potsticker. They are super friendly too! I highly recommend anyone to give this restaurant (also called Port Chop House) a try
So many old school restaurants in Chinatown and this was one of the best - Family lunch - 3 of us have been here and two had not. We had so much fun and the food was super good. Love the sisters who took care of us especially Annie the younger sister LOL. Celebrating our sister C bd. Thank you best part of our day.
A San Francisco Institution 🙇🏻♂️ In for a late lunch, was happy surprised the restaurant was not busy. I ordered the Ribeye medium, served with hot Au Jus and a side of rice and corn. Ribeye was a hefty portion, seasoned well, and plenty of Au Jus to dip in and enjoy ☺️ I’ll be back 😋
12/30/2025: The Great SF Power Outage of 2025 last week took out New Lun Ting Cafe for a day. I remember I had to turn back home from downtown because the traffic lights were not working. My revenge meal turned out OK tonight. I spoke with the owner lady and she only had to close for one day. Some of my favorite places on Clement St. were closed for three days. My corned beef $16.45 comes with the option of their famous orange gravy. Of course that is a yes. Their orange gravy is delicious. It came with solid sides of cabbage and rice. This dish is solid as the corned beef wasn't dry, tender and correctly cured. The restaurant was empty again even though Grant Ave. was busy. The included pot sticker is house made. She was making them when I arrived. Overall, great meal. Updated review 4/8/2025: It was really slow for New Lun Ting Cafe on a Monday night at dinner time. It was me and one other patron. The Vietnamese restaurant across the street was empty too. X&Y down the block had people waiting outside though. My food came out within 10 minutes. I can't say the prime rib $24 was delicious, my expectations were low. The meat was rough. I had a hard time cutting it. The roasted pork $14 with the orange gravy is much better. For the first time, I had room for the complementary ice cream. Updated review 3/1/2022: A lot of the Chinatown restaurants close early nowadays. At 6:30pm, these restaurants were closed: New Hollywood Bakery, New Regent and Yin Du (Yelp hours are wrong) on Pacific Ave., San Sun (Yelp hours are wrong) on Washington St. and VIP Cafe (Yelp hours are wrong) on Broadway. I'm fortunate New Lun Ting was open. The older waitress/owner was working tonight. After reviewing the comprehensive menu for like five minutes, I decided on their runny egg with shrimp chow fun $12.50. This dish is doused with hoisin sauce and was delicious. I only got four shrimps though. That is unusually low compared to other restaurants that serve this dish. I guess the complementary pot sticker and cup of house vegetable soup made up for it. I left really full. Thank you New Lun Ting Cafe aka Pork Chop House. Updated review 12/22/2021: Nowadays, most restaurants close around 8pm. I love how they are open until 9:30pm. Tonight I had their prime rib with lo-mein $19.65. On the menu, it isn't called prime rib but rather "Rib Eye Roast". It is the 5th down on the left side of the menu. It is due to bad translation I assume. It usually cost $1.50 to change from rice to lo-mein. Since I came after 8:30pm, they ran out of rice and the waitress let me substitute it for free. Spaghetti is also available as an option instead of rice. The meat itself isn't that great but of acceptable quality. I ordered medium and it was cooked perfectly. The butter from the corn spilled over a bit onto the prime rib and it more fragrant. Parts in the middle were a bit chewy. They do provide a decent sized cup of au jus for dipping in case it is too bland. Great job crew at Pork Chop House. Original review: There's something special about Pork Chop House. It feels old and historic. Our meal started off with a complementary Hong Kong style borscht soup and a pot sticker. We had the corned beef and pork chop combo and their prime rib special. The meals came with a side of canned corn, cooked cabbage and rice. That au jus sauce and the orange gravy is pretty good. The meat wasn't dry and didn't need it. The food tasted so good, we ordered two more plates to-go for dinner. Great job everyone at Pork Chop House.
January 2025: Stopped by for dinner and had the beef chow fun. The portion was quite large. Chow fun was very tasty. Would definitely come back again for more Chinese food. February 2022: Came here for dinner on a Thursday. The place is very traditional "old school" type Chinese cafe with Cantonese style dishes and American style favorites of Chinese family meals. Service was great. The lady serving us was so genuinely nice and funny. They treated us to free ice cream for dessert! Anyway, onto the food review. Most of my family (6 of them) got the roast beef. They were all genuinely happy with their dinner. Big portion of beef cooked medium rare. My cousin brought his own horseradish sauce! 😃. I went for the oxtail stew which was served with a big scoop of rice and some veggies. It was okay. Sauce was a bit thick and the oxtail was a bit tough. I would try something else next time. My nieces got the beef chow fun and the beef stew over rice. I sampled both of their dishes and thought those were good. I'd get either of those dishes next time! My brother had the roast pork over rice and he was very happy with it. It also looked its gravy was on the thick side. All in all, I'd come back for the chow fun and the beef stew over rice! Thanks for a great dinner!
Best roast pork lunch, and it’s yummy yummy. The portion is so huge that I had to pack half of the pork to go, and price very reasonable. I had the combo roast pork lunch special, $15 including soup, pot sticker, soda, and tea. It’s a small place with counter seats and booths with that 70’s vibe. (Photos are of the beef tongue over rice)

I decided to get the ox tail stew for dinner for my mom and I. My aunt knows the owner from back in the days and she mentioned this old school place is really good and got a lot of history to the place. The food is outstanding! Taste is great, really reminds me of how my grandmother and dad use to make the ox tail stew with rice. I will return to this place soon for sure!
is the staff a little bit grumpy? yes! is there a chance you might not get parts of the meal you paid for bc they ran out of materials? also yes! but i wouldn’t have it any other way i’m very looking forward to coming back here again with friends :) the meat is so tender and all the dishes are so well seasoned. be sure to come a little earlier (not right before closing lmao)

Really good food from this small restaurant in Chinatown SF. We had beef fried rice and Kung Pao chicken. Both dishes were delicious. We were given some soup and a complimentary pot sticker prior to our meal. Place is very small and doesn't have a great ambiance, but food and service were on point. A touch pricey as well.
I think the pork chop alone was a bit dry. Though the value was pretty good for $14. Came with dumpling soup and tea. I think I'm supposed to be ordering something with a sauce as it looked like everyone else did. So next time I shall try again.
Cool and affordable hole in the wall. I got the roast pork with gravy in a rice plate. The meal also came with tea, soup, and 1 pot sticker. The sides were fine. Tea and soup was mid, but the pot sticker was nice. The main course though was pretty delicious. The pork was perfectly tender, gravy was flavorful and pairs nicely with the rice. Also only paid like $11-$12 for the whole meal which is a great deal. Don’t expect good service or a clean experience though. Also cash only. If you want affordable Chinese food though I think Sam wo restaurant is still a better option.

Pretty good cheap prime rib meal, which includes rice, corn, house soup, one potsticker and a cup of tea. Especially loved the house soup (comforting) and potsticker (very crispy outside, juicy filling). The seasoning on the prime rib is nice. As one may expect from cheap prime rib, it isn’t the most tender or juicy, but the soy sauce-y jus helps it a bit. I honestly look forward to trying the other items (esp short rib, ox tail and pork chop).
While visually it has its vibe, food was quite bland and on the undercooked side.
8-21-2024, Wednesday: The food was decent, and the service could have been better. We ordered the beef and scramble eggs and roast pork with curry. Both meals can with a small bowl of house special soup, one potsticker, and a soda in a can.
