I have to say, you should definitely go to this restaurant. Even though it was my first time ever trying Chinese food, especially dim sum, and I wasn’t familiar with it at all, it was amaaazing. Everything was so tasty, fun, and playful. If you’re looking for a new experience, absolutely get dim sum. We also ordered desserts, which were delicious too. The names are honestly hard to say, so we’ll just post photos of what we ordered. We ordered green tea as well, and they brought a huge teapot, so we were able to drink tea throughout the whole meal. The price of the food is really reasonable. The desserts we ordered were excellent, very unique, and really flavorful. Overall, I had a great experience and I highly recommend this place to everyone.
The house chow mein was absolutely delicious as well as the green beans and dumplings. We also had peach saki that was amazing. Definitely would give 10 stars if allowed
Came here on the second friday of the month - Chinatown night market. The market was way too crowded for us so we decided to find a place to dine. This was one close by that wasn't super busy at the time. We were seated quickly. The place is clean and a bit higher scale than typical dimsum restaurant, though their price is pretty reasonable. We loved the calamari, pork and shrimp siu mai, and the xiao long bao, we didn't love the other ones as much but they were still really good. Overall food was great, service was quick, we didn't feel any rush to finish our meal even when we came in just 50mins before closing time.
A friend and I chose this place at random based on the variety of their menu. We ended up getting some dumpling, singapore noodles, mongolian beef, sake & hot n sour soup. They didn't come out in the order I would have thought, but the portions were more than enough to share and all tasted delicious!
The food was incredible! It was almost the same as authentic Hong Kong dim sum! The waitress was very nice and could speak mandarin. The only thing that should be improved is the design and the cleanliness of the restaurant, I was spiderwebs on the ceiling, and the tables and chairs were not really in shape. We are with 4 and we spent 97 dollars total, excluded the tips.
Highly recommended by our Hotel staff for Dim Sum, and it did not disappoint. We arrived after lunch rush, and we're seated fairly quickly. Our orders were taken, and in no time, out of the kitchen arrived our meal, savory, hot, and flavorful. It was not too expensive, and we enjoyed the friendly waitstaff and knowledge of certain items on the menu for questions.
I don't generally write reviews while eating, however, what an excellent experience. We ordered multiple dishes from salt and pepper fish (S8) to the Wonton with house chili (D18). Fresh made and flavorful combined with just great ingredients. I can't speak to the things I didn't order, however, the things I ordered resonated. Also pictured, the beef chowfun (N6) and mixed vegetables (V4) were excellent. I did ask for some additional chili oil as I like extra spice on everything. Great meal overall and will now be my regular stop in Chinatown.
Took my family here for lunch. All the food items we ordered here we excellent! My whole loved it. The Peking duck was the best. Will definitely come back again. You can go wrong with this place. We noticed restaurants near by were fairly empty with no waiting line. This one was crowded and we had to wait 30 minutes. Well worth the wait!
Reasonably priced, fresh and tasty dumplings. I was looking for somewhere to get my dim sum fix, and Begoni was there to satisfy. Quick, friendly service. Not the most beautiful ambiance, but doesn’t make a big difference.
Hunted for a good spot in Chinatown and this was our pick. Relaxed atmosphere, clean, and good service. You get to place your order on a sheet which allows for clarity on what you order. The pork BBQ steam buns are AMAZING worth a stop 100%. We also got the sesame lotus dumplings, spring rolls, and Mongolian beef (a touch spicy). All was yummy (not out of this world), portions were good, and it was great spot for dinner!
Highly recommend the house fried rice. I tried the dried scalloped one and it was nothing to write home about. Recently I got the sweet/sour chicken and it was overcooked, don’t come late night if you have a special request because you will be ignored by the manager, cooked properly, it’s good. The Chinese broccoli is a great value.Edit 6/30/25: DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT. Do so at your own risk if you’re reading this. I ordered the same rice and it is disgusting, completely opposite from what I have gotten in the restaurant. For some reason they don’t understand what bean sprouts are, insane.
Begoni huddles up together with many other dim sum, bakeries, and Chinese restaurant at the heart of Chinatown. And quite frankly, it is difficult to stand out. To sum it up, Begoni runs a middle line, but manages to bring it the home style love into their food, and serves this in a reasonably sized establishment for group dining. The atmosphere is a typical Chinese restaurant. Nothing special. Paper table covers. A classy but dated bar. Plenty of red tones. It's quite spacious and our group of 10 had no problem finding a spot. The server was super friendly and felt like he was part of the owner's family. Very welcoming. Begoni is classified as a dim sum place so that's what we went for. What really makes their dim sum stand out is that every one of the pieces feel like it was hand crafted. Definitely not your commercial mass produced dim sum. And yes, because of this, some are not perfect. But these imperfections actually add to the authenticity and the love your uncle might put into preparing dim sum for his family. The taste is plentiful and bold. The siu mai was bursting with flavor. The pork bun was fun. And the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves really rung nostalgia from my grandmother. Begoni isn't perfect. But it was never meant to be. Begoni is family love turned into a restaurant.
While this lunch was decent tasting and filling, I wouldn't say it's the best food I've had in Chinatown. Rather mediocre for my expectations. The pork buns and broccoli were really good, but the duck was a bit dry and the sauce too savory. Soup dumplings were nothing special. The space was filled with many different art pieces and the bathroom was well maintained. Our server wasn't super attentive, but got the job done.
Our experience at Begoni Bistro was a mix of hits and misses. After a brief 15-minute wait, we were seated at the bar, which turned out to be a cool and unique experience while dining for dim sum. We ordered a variety of dim sum dishes, and while none were bad, most failed to leave a lasting impression. The Steamed Shrimp Dumpling and Deep Fried Pork & Shrimp Tofu Skin Roll were decent but didn't stand out. The Steamed Chicken Feet and Spicy Steamed Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai had acceptable flavors but lacked the exceptional taste that sets apart great dim sum. The Beef Short Ribs with Black Pepper Sauce and Deep Fried Wonton were average, meeting expectations but not exceeding them. One dish that did manage to shine was the Golden Durian Crisp. The deep-fried crispy puff filled with sweet durian had a delightful fragrance and a well-balanced sweetness. It was the highlight of our meal and left us wanting more.
Definitely had better experience in the past ordering other dishes. We were here for soup dumplings.. probably on me for choosing this spot when there are plenty of other options in San Francisco. The XLB were overcooked.. there was no broth in any of them. It also came in those tins so I'm wondering if it's all frozen/premade ones. Either way they should've came out with broth inside.. We love salt and pepper fried chicken, but this didn't scratch the itch at all either. I think the initial disappointment from the soup dumplings ruined the overall experience.
